Despite the "low end" Coby name this little DVD works well. Stylish and easy to use the picture and sound were good. For the price it is a very good deal. One thing - we only used it twice so we don't know how it will hold up over time.

This product is good. Alas, the battery does NOT work! I had nowhere to turn to for help. When I tried to call the manufacturer, I encountered too many, many problems with the Customer Service department. As of now, my return check for the replacement battery is NOWHERE to be seen, neither is the replacement battery!
One final conclusion: It is better to visit either a Best Buy or Circuit City than to receive a product that does NOT work and NO ONE to help you!

This DVD player arrived scratched and I could tell by the way it was packaged, someone before me had returned it too. I decided to try it anyhow since I had it, and I wasn't impressed. The sound from the speakers was horrible and it had to be turned up to the max level to hear it. The picture itself was OK, but too small to view.

Bought this over two years ago..........2007-09-13
I bought this player over two years ago for my son for Christmas. I was hesitant at the time because of mixed reviews. At the time I purchased it on sale through amazon for about 100.00. The player still works I'm very please with it. It has traveled with us on various trips and is used at home by family members. Past reviews which mention the player only working a couple of times and not working again may be cause by a little switch that sometimes is tampered with by children. The switch is an AV in and out switch. If the power button is on, the dvd is in the player, and you get a blank screen I'd suggest playing with the AV switch on the side of the DVD player.
Now there are plenty of portable players to choose from that are new and affordable- this review is just to inform others that after two years ours still works and we are pleased with it.

It worked fine the first day.
The second day it refuses to play any DVD. Keep getting "wrong disc" error when playing DVDs. It still can play CDs.

I bought one a year ago. It broke 8 months later although I did not use it that much. I got the Wrong Disc error message. I tried many disc with various format, including many which played on it before so I know that it was not a format problem. I searched the web and then found that this is quite common with Coby. I had to send it back for warranty repair which took over 2 months.
Guess what, it just broke again just a few days over a year from my date of purchase. No more warranty.
No only I will never buy another Coby. Get a quality brand and you have much better peace of mind.

I bought this piece in 2005 so I am in a better position to comment on it as far as durability is concerned.I had bought it for around $150, and its around half the price now.I have dragged it,dropped it,thrown the remote but it has no complaints.Its really a nice one both indoors and oudoors if you want something compact and efficient.

I bought this for my kids to use on long trips, and it works great. Nothing about it is exceptional, but it's all functional and hasn't broken down over dozens and dozens of movies played.

Double Disappointment.......2007-05-13
I have bought 2 Mintek DVD players, and now, shame on me. The first one worked pretty well for a while and got a lot of use. It then started to get touchy. If it is bumped in the slightest, it thinks that the DVD door opens, and the DVD starts over again. This is terrible for travel or kids.
I bought another one, thinking that it was a good machine other than that, but it has acted up from the beginning. It actually won't play some discs (that will play on the first machine). Other discs just freeze and skip and are unwatchable (but, again, they play fine on other machines).
I'm very frustrated with both machines that I bought. I cannot have had the bad luck to have bought two lemons! Just beware when buying this product.
I gave 2 stars only because the sound and picture are good (when they work!!), otherwise I'd have given one star.
Absolutely no support.......2007-01-05
It appears to work fine except possibly the AV output. It has a password in the setup that is not documented anywhere. When I tried to find out about these problems online and by phone - there was no answer (the phone mailbox is full and won't let you even leave a message). I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Sorely disappointed.......2006-10-18
Our Mintek was unreliable right out of the box. The picture and sound were decent, it's size was a great convenience when traveling, but we had trouble getting it to play and eventually it just failed on us after a few weeks. And we hardly used it much. No damage, no dropping, no abuse, nothing but love and respect. It just up and quit on us and I will never buy a Mintek product again. Truly a grand waste of our money. I'm glad others have posted positive reviews - hope they're still happy. I wish you luck if you gamble on this item.
Great for traveling with a family.......2006-07-26
This portable DVD was originally bought for a train trip and it worked great! We were in rooms not coach so the entire family was able to watch and the screen size was plenty large enough to see every thing clearly. What I especially liked was that the screen is still able to be seen from oblique angles. I was afraid that it would be like my laptop and be hard to see unless you are directly infront of it but that isn't the case at all.
The sound works well through the dual head phones and actually works surprisingly well through the speaker as well. We we able to hear the movies on the train through the speaker. Depending on the DVD sometimes it could actually get very loud.
Like the other reviewer I suggest checking out Costco to get this player, so that you can get the pack with a bag and two earphones for less that $200. The bag, I especially liked. It is a very good bag with plenty of storage.
Extremely Versatile Player - NTSC/PAL and Region Free Capable.......2006-07-12
I looked around for a portable DVD unit that would play multiple disk formats. This player fits the bill - according to its specs, it will play DVD+-RW, CD-R/RW, and Kodak Picture CDs. So far, I've only tested it on commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs, all which play fine.
Video quality is fine and audio via headphones is more than adequate. (Audio quality via the small onboard speakers is about on par with laptop speakers.) The player makes some noise spinning up a DVD upon first play and spinning down a DVD after a stop but there is virtually no noise during playback. Video and audio outputs are fairly minimal so it's not the ideal player if you plan on routinely hooking it up to your TV. Additional accessories are available including a component (RGB) video adaptor.
Most invaluable about this player, however, is that it can be made Region Free - i.e. you can change the region code to "0" so that it will play foreign DVDs. Go to videohelp.com to find the simple 5 step process you can follow using the included remote (no firmware update required). It will also play PAL-formatted DVDs as well as the U.S. NTSC standard. I can now play my DVDs from the U.K., as well as Australia.
Because it is so highly versatile, I highly recommend it if you are an avid DVD watcher who views both U.S. and foreign DVDs. (Note, as of the time of this review, Costco is selling the unit for under $200, including a bonus accessory pack which includes a carrying case and 2 headphones).

GREAT portable player.......2006-02-03
I got this DVD player for travel but I use it a lot. The picture is large enough to show detail and the sound is good. My only comment is that the battery sometimes will slide out of the docking clips and it is rather heavy (thus increasing the weight of the player,) But that being said, I'm very happy with it.

New Pentax user.......2005-01-13
I have used a Minolta 35mm camera for many years and have been very happy with it. Lately there has been "bleed-in" on the pictures so it was time for a change. I did a lot of internet research into cameras which would be simple to use and give good pictures. I decided on the Pentax Espio 140 after reading many reviews and descriptions. After experimenting with a couple rolls of film, I am very happy with the camera. This is my first zoom 35mm and I am still learning the methods of using it. I am especially pleased with the outdoor shots. I learned that the flash has its' limitations when using the zoom in darker situations. Getting the camera loaded and operating is simple. The instructions are easy to read and understand. The film indicator is large enough to read in low light situations. I like the lens cover/slide and do not find it hard to operate. The date feature was something which I definitely wanted and it shows up well. I am also pleased with the close-up pictures which I have taken, however, I am less than totally pleased with the red-eye reduction. I have red eye in some of my pictures and will be experimenting with camera positioning to see if there is something on the user end which can be done about it. I am pleased with the camera and would recommend it to someone looking for a good easy to use camera.
disappointed.......2004-07-16
Why do they call this a ultra-compact camera? I was really disappointed when I open the box and found out how large the camera actually is! It's twice as big as my old one, which I'd wanted to replace, and while it's lightweight, it's awkward to hold, and the lens covar is difficult to slide. I don't know if it takes good pictures, but the size is terrible. These days people expect small. I'm returning it and buying one that I know is small, yet still has all the great features, the Fujifilm Zoomdate 1300.
Great camera.......2003-05-01
I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera. I was told at a camera shop that Pentax and Minolta take the best pictures for a point and shoot camera. I was going to buy a Nikon, but was told that Nikon doesn't even make their own point and shoot cameras. Another company makes them and they put the Nikon name on their point and shoot camera. This Pentax camera has a neat feature. As the camera zooms in and out, the flash adjusts so that if you're shooting a close-up, the camera won't put too much light on the subject. I took the camera to a Nascar race and used 200 speed film. The pictures came out great. The only problem I had with my order is that the product description indicates that this camera comes with a case and a battery, however, this camera did not.
