The HP 2000Cxi printer is a Professional Series color inkjet printer for business environments. It uses drop-on-demand thermal inkjet printing on plain paper. This model is identical to the HP 2000Cse except for the software; the Cxi has medium to large business-focus software, and the Cse has small business-oriented software. The Cse is only available in retail. This PC-compatible model prints at 600 dpi resolution at top print speeds of 10 pages per minute for color, 12 ppm for black text. Three print modes offer users a choice of print quality and speed to suit different printing needs. Econofast has the fastest speed with acceptable print quality, Normal offers the best combination of speed and quality, and Best produces the highest print quality at a lower speed. The Photo Resolution Enhancement II (PhotoREt) and ColorSMart II technologies choose the best color settings, dot size and resolution to yield photo-quality color prints. Four separate ink cartridges and printheads are easily replaced and save up to 30% of printing costs over comparable desktop color printers. The Hewlett-Packard 2000Cse alleviates the usual ink-jet concerns of slow print speeds and frequent ink-cartridge changes. The desktop jewel of Hewlett-Packard 's Professional Series, this ink jet is one of the company's fastest and most attractive on the market and is designed for moderate business and workgroup use.
The unit accepts paper from the front in a horizontal input tray and uses a U-shaped paper path to eject the prints directly above the input stock. As on all of HP's ink jets, the 2000Cse has retracting paper supports on each side that gently drop the prints into the tray.
The 2000Cse uses a four-color ink configuration so you can replace the individual colors as they run out; however, it combines individual print heads for each color and separate ink cartridges for longer life between consumable replacements. The ink cartridges and print heads are designed not to drip--a major plus for a model with replaceable ink reservoirs.
Aside from installing the ink cartridges and print heads, the only assembly required is the output tray--a piece that slides easily in the front of the printer. This tray conveniently tilts and locks in an upward position to let you change the paper below. The output tray also sports a slot to accept envelopes and special media.
The DeskJet 2000Cse prints black text up to 600 dpi. Black-text printing was superb--solid black areas were extremely dense and consistent with smooth edges. HP produces its color using the company's Photo REt II technology, which makes resolution less important. Photo REt II blends colors and varies the amount of ink delivered, increasing the number of colors that can be placed on any particular dot. (Hewlett-Packard claims that ink drops are 70 percent smaller than previous models and that 16 drops can be placed on any particular dot on the page.) We were quite impressed with the even, photographic quality of the 2000Cse's printouts--colors were vivid, and the image quality was top notch.
The printer driver supports tablet, book, and poster printing and lets you quickly choose between Best, Normal, and EconoFast quality modes. The company's ColorSmart II technology matches the color settings to the type of document you're printing, eliminating the need to choose a document type in the driver. This driver doesn't provide much in the way of printer-status indicators; there is no graphical depiction of the printer in the standard driver dialog. However, there is a troubleshooting feature that offers solutions if you have problems. The DeskJet 2000Cse also comes with a great suite of software applications to help you manage your printing tasks.

Do not buy HP 2000Cse Pro Printer.......2001-07-01
I bought the HP DeskJet 2000Cse something over two years ago for its speed, supposed economy derived from the fact it has separate cartridges for each color and the print heads do not have to be replaced each time the cartridges are replaced. They don't tell you that when the machine decides that an ink cartridge or print head is bad has gone bad, it will not work at all until that item is replaced. Thus, you must keep a complete stock of cartridges in stock at all times. That's means you must keep an inventory of well in excess ..worth of supplies on hand at all times to assure that you can use the printer. Even when you have new cartridges installed, it may decide that one of them is empty and will not print at all until you replace the cartridge. And how it decides that a printhead is bad is a mystery. It certainly has nothing to do with degraded print quality.
Further, they have never developed a full-featured driver for Windows 2000. I have made numerous requests as to when it will be ready and I can only get answers like "It's not ready yet, but I think they are working on it."
A+ for speed, quality, economy & support.......2001-04-29
This printer is fast - color or b/w. The text and photo output is just incredibly good. You pay for the ink you use - and not a drop more. Best part is this: buy the HP support option for $80 a year (that's about a quarter a day - for peace of mind) and if anything at all goes wrong, there's a replacement *on your doorstep* the following morning with prepaid UPS labels to pack off the one that's not working. I've owned mine for 3 years - I bought the printer when it first came out and I paid $799 for it. I also had the printhead problem mentioned by another reviewer. But I keep track of the number of copies we print, and after documenting that to HP, they graciously replaced the printheads, as they should have - *by the next morning*. They also provided me with a free upgraded output tray when it became apparent that the original design resulted in "overshoot" when the printer ejected pages. Of course I don't now have the original printer - they've replaced it twice. I hardly noticed.
Great At First But A Long Range Disappointment!.......2001-02-22
I bought mine 8 months ago, and I have used it really fairly lightly. (To give you an idea, I have only had to replace the ink cartridge two times in 8 months.) But now it is having massive printhead failures. First the diagnostic complained about the black printhead, so I went to the store and bought a new black printhead (something I never realized I would have to buy!) for $35. Came home, carefully put it in, and still the same problem. Called Technical Support and went through motions with them over the phone only to find that now it supposedly needs the CYAN printhead replaced as well.
I like simple, and in the past HP has given me SIMPLE printers. I loved the old HP Laser 4L printer I had, and I loved the 720C DeskJet printer too. But this one is a lemon by its very nature. It's bad enough to have to replace costly ink cartridges, but having to replace costly printheads as well -- on a regular basis -- is NOT what I want! The guy at the office supply store told me the printheads tend to go out on these printers EVERY 6 MONTHS! He knows, because he sells 'em to people all the time. There is a different printhead for each color, so that's 4 printheads having to be replaced every six months. I would MUCH rather have purchased a pricey color laser printer and I give this model TWO THUMBS DOWN for complex and high-cost maintenance!! Thank goodness I have a backup printer.
I will say this for Hewlett Packard, though -- my machine is under warranty and the two people I have spoken with thus far in their technical support department were professional, courteous and as helpful as they could be. That's why I'll give it 2 stars instead of one...
VERY pleased with this printer.......2000-07-08
I upgraded to this printer from my original (or should I say, aboriginal) printer, a LaserJet IIIp that I bought in 1992 for a THOUSAND bucks! You surely get more printer for the buck nowadays, and this one represents the epitome of HP inkjet development. I highly recommend it.
I was fortunate to have a painless installation experience both on a local port and later when I added a JetDirect external print server for my little home-office "workgroup".
In draft mode (where I do most of my printing) the print quality is good and the machine is acceptably fast in either BW or color. Switch over to "best" mode and you have laser-like output sharp enough to lacerate your corneas. Color photos reproduced on this printer using the appropriate photo quality paper are nearly indistinguishable from snapshots of the same size, though don't expect film quality 8 by 10's unless you are using a 3 megapixel camera.
HP's JetAdmin and WebJetAdmin software utilities, available on hp's printers and imaging web pages, are really nice management tools if you network your printer either via printer sharing or using an external print server (I use the economical JetDirect 170X whose 10mB speed, though not top of the line, is more than adequate for the home office user). I recommend those as well.
I have a different view of the separate-color-cartridge setup than another reviewer here who intensely disliked his HP printer experience. I think it makes sense. The cartridges are high capacity; nevertheless I have already had to replace my black cartridge, not surprising given heavy office usage. I did not get to dead empty so I can't say whether the printer would have refused to do anything else without the replacement. I have had the printer for nearly a year and have not had to replace any of the color cartridges. I like the idea that one replaces only what one uses; in my case I would have tossed an all-color cartridge with the colored inks not even half-used, a waste which surely I am paying for somewhere down the line.
Bottom line: great printer, great value. I have owned many HP products and they have never failed to live up to my expectations. I have sought service from HP and that, too, has been more than satisfactory. I don't expect tech support people to get it right first time every time, but I do expect them to keep plugging away at it, and that service level is what I have received from HP.

HP makes some fine printers. This one is no exception. Very good and it will pay for itself. I took it to college and have had people asking me to print their stuff. Cartridges last for a very long time. Best Buy now carries the cartridges too. If you print a lot and want a good printer, get this one.

I've recently had the opportunity to set up two wireless networks for my friend's and now my home, all on WinXP systems. For my friend, I picked up a Buffalo Airstation on advice of the head of the tech department (not the floor salesguy) at a computer retailer, and it installed flawlessly in minutes, including a firewall, WEP security, plus --what is even more important to me to prevent hacking-- MAC filtering. For my own home, I went with a sale and got the Hawking, and I couldn't get it to work. Even with tweaking (I've been doing non-networking IT for fifteen years), I couldn't get the router to connect with my ISP through my DSL connection. I went out and bought a D-Link (also 54M wireless G) on heavy discount at a different retailer, and like the Buffalo, it went up and running right away, including firewall, 128 bit WEP, and MAC filtering. [MAC filtering, for those of you who don't know, allows you to specify exactly which machines are allowed to connect to the router, and all other ones are shut out. This keeps the neighbors and others from hacking into your network, since WEP passwords aren't foolproof.] I was also impressed with the strength of the Buffalo's signal.

Followings are my review on this Buffalo Airstation WYR-G54.
Pros:
-Price. I got mine for an after-rebate price of $14.00 shipped
-Perfect compatibility with a Mac. It works fine with my PowerBook G4 (OS 10.3.8)
with an AirPort Express card.
-Size. Small (3 ¾ x 5 ½ x 1")
-Easy set up (auto recognition of the AirPort. But no Mac instructions. See below.)
Cons:
-The included CD is for Windows only.
-No Mac manual or instructions are provided.
But don't let this discourage you, Mac users. The Airstation recognizes your Mac (under OSX with AirPort ) immediately without configuring the wireless router. To enable security (WEP or WPA), use a Web browser, type 192.168.11.1 in the address field of the browser, and go. The rest of the security set up is explained via the browser. Simple instructions to follow. I set up my entire wireless network with security in less than 5 minutes. The WYR-G54 is a bargain. It provides very good 802.11g connections and functions, without bells and whistles that you'd find in more expensive models. I'm very satisfied with the Airstation and give 4 out of 5 stars (for lacking instructions specifically for Mac users.)
Japanese Firmware???!!!.......2005-01-19
I'd always wanted to try Buffalo because their products are often highly rated. When the WYR-G54 was introduced last September, Buffalo seemed to be saying that they were willing to design, produce and support an inexpensive ($30-$60), no-nonsense 54Mbs router based on proven technology at a time when most other companies are debuting high-speed, proprietary card/router combos. I took the plunge this week. When I initially plugged in the WYR-G54 everything looked great, all the hardware worked like a charm despite a shoddy packing job by Amazon.com. Unfortunately my router's configuration page was entirely in japanese rather than english. I called Buffalo tech support and it took them about 15 seconds to confirm that the router had been shipped with Japanese rather than English firmware and needed to be returned. The lack of suprise on the part of Buffalo tech support lead me to believe that this my router might not be an isolated incident. Despite my initial impressions regarding Buffalo's commitment to the WYR-G54, it is likely the case that this router is a low-priority within the company (see some of the remarks on broadbandreports.com). At any rate I'm returning my WYR-G54 to amazon (thank god they have a liberal return policy) and hoping to land a good deal on something equivalent by linksys or motorola.

This flashlight does what it's supposed to do, and it has a good range of brightness. I especially like the thumb power switch/rheostat -- it's easy and comfortable to operate. My only complaint is that the circle of illumination is relatively small. I would prefer a wider cone of light to illuminate a wider area.
Perfect Compliment to a Night Out.......2007-03-10
Because of it's non-intrusive red lighting, and especially because of its size and brightness control, this is the perfect little light to bring out in to the field for observing. One caution; make sure you have the lanyard securely around your wrist, especially if you're shining the light down a tube to collimate. One slip, and it'll be headed toward your primary!
