Product Description
Nikon Coolpix 8800 is designed for the serious photographer who aspires to take the highest quality images. This is possible with the ultra high-definition 8.0 effective megapixels. The 10x optical zoom, 35-350mm focal range (35mm equivalent), targets those who also require high zoom power. Due to its large zoom range, Vibration Reduction (VR) is needed to compensate inevitable camera movements. VR automatically detects and compensates for these small camera movements that causes image blur. Thanks to the VR, you can achieve sharp and clear images when shooting in low light (shutter speeds up to 3 stops slower) or when taking handheld telephoto and macro shots. VR even works with the telephoto converter lens at 600mm (35mm equivalent). This extremely versatile camera offers a range of lens converters (Tele, Wideangle and fisheye), optical filters, speedlights, software and other accessories for even more creative flexibility. With this camera you create the photographic rules.

Delivered as promised.......2007-07-29
The purchase was easy. The product arrived as promised and in new condition. I would use this company again for future purchases.
Exceptional and durable, too.......2007-04-29
My Nikon 8800 has traveled from the Amazon basin to the North Slope of Alaska and has taken over 100,000 photos. It has spent about a month in the hot, humid Amazon basin, a place which claimed the life of one of my past cameras. I've used it so much, I actually wore out one battery pack and had to replace it. Still, three years later the camera is functioning perfectly, just the way it did in the summer of 2004 when I bought it. This camera has been very reliable.
The image stabilization is extremely helpful in taking butterfly photos, the project I'm working on with this camera. I also use it to record interesting birds, so I can look them up in a field guide at home. With the image stabilization, I truely don't need to bring binoculars.
It is far lighter and easier to transport than SLR type cameras. I find this very helpful.
To improve this already excellent camera, I suppose that it would benefit from a bigger LCD monitor, stronger external battery pack, and screws for a cable release.
Also, in a perfect world, it would become a bit more light sensative and function better in darker conditions, or allow faster shutter speeds/greater depth of field. Maybe that science fiction type function will become possible some day, but whatever the case, I just love this camera as it is right now. It makes possible butterfly photography at resolutions and distances that were completely impossible just a few years ago.
MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.......2007-02-12
My Coolpix 8800 lapsed into "system error 2" mode within weeks of getting it. After taking 3 or 4 shots the error message comes up and I have to shut it down and start it back up to take a few more shots before the error 2 message recurrs. Nikon says to try a fresh battery and different storage card...no help. Now Nikon says says send it in and we'll fix it- but don't say what it will cost... The shots I do get aren't as good as an HP camera we have that was half the price. The controls are ridiculously complex. The flash pops up and fires when shooting in bright light...the whole thing is a piece of junk. The only good shots I've gotten with it are inside shooting documents from 2 feet away...but for any outdoor complicated lighting it is unreliable... I wouldn't recommend this camera or any Nikon product to my worst enemy....Oh yeah, and they made the lens an oddball size so you have to buy overpriced Nikon filters for it.....
Good, but not worth the cost.......2007-01-20
I recently faced the "System 2 Error" many other users. Luckily, I have a three year warranty and it was fully covered and came back within 3wks of mailing (I sent it just before Christmas so it took longer).
The Pros:
Excellent features
Lightweight (I have small hands and cannot hold much weight)
Came with a Remote control
Large LCD
etc...
The Cons:
Expensive (I paid $700 plus $135 3yr warrantly)
Slow shutter speed
Slow writing to flash
Has a tendency to over/undercompensate EV (so you need to play with the function quite a bit)
Dreaded LENS ERROR!!!!
Overall, I am happy with my camera. I never owned and SLR and this camera is a great stepping stone for someone like me who wants something like an SLR but can't afford/doesn't know how to use one.
After owning the camera two years, I will definitely keep it as my, "throw in the handbag and go" camera but if you can afford an SLR, definitely buy one.
A good camera but horribly unreliable.......2006-09-22
I loved this camera but I have had to send it back 3 times for the infamous "system error 2" design fault which plagues many of these. The repair service is slow - the camera has been in repair 50% of the year I have had it.

How to pair the ML-L3 wirless remote control with your Nikon D 80 camera.......2007-09-23
I was quite worried when I brought the ML-L3 remote control for my Nikon D 80 camera because the Nikon website did not include this product in the list of accessories for the D 80. I also got mixed reviews from certain customers form Amazon. I have brought this product and it woks perfectly with the D 80. Go to the cnet link here to find out how to pair the device with your D 80. These instructions are hard to find in the instruction manual.
http://reviews.cnet.com/4660-10621_7-6718797.html?tag=vid.2
It's okay..........2007-09-21
This remote works fine, but not great. The range is somewhat limited and you have to point the remote directly at the camera for it to work. As a result, I have recently taken a lot of photos of myself trying to get the dumb thing to work.
On the other hand it is very small and extremely handy, just don't misplace it or you never may see it again!
Fine product; poor instructions.......2007-09-09
Let me state right off the line, that this is a very good product, giving a wireless remote control solution that is both cheap and easy to use. Great for including yourself in family or scenic photos without having to outrun the self-timer. It also ensures that you will not shake the camera pressing the shutter release in longer exposures.
That said, setting up your camera to receive the remote's signal is not intuitive (at least, not for me). Compounding that, no instructions are included with the product. I first thought the controller was broken.
Compounding that, there are instructions buried in my D80's manual, but they are simply not found with a logical search of either the table of contents or the index. After an email to Nikon (and a strong recommendation to throw in an instruction sheet), everything is fine.
With that caveat, buy this product. If a brief instruction sheet were included, this product would easily get a five-star rating from me.
Works on D80.......2007-09-08
Straight forward to use, however it has to point to the sensor area on the camera body, not very wide range as I had thought. Still, it is something good to have.
Works great, once you figure out how!.......2007-09-05
Someone else here said that, though the unit comes with no directions, it's a no brainer to figure out. That other reviewer must be smarter than I am, 'cuz it took me a while to figure out how to make this work.
For those in my intelligence range and working with the Nikon D40, go into your menu settings, and enter the menu with the pencil icon. Select Shooting mode then select Delayed Remote. (This may be buried under Self-time on some models)
Once set, this little guy works great. It sure would have been nice for Nikon to include some basic instructions, however.

Best 30 bucks I've spent on my camera.......2007-09-14
I don't have the 200 or so dollars to spend on a Manfrotto so I decided to get this tripod to try it out after reading positive reviews. The tripod is steady and holds the camera well. The levelling bubbles are an awesome addition.
Highly recommend this cheap tripod
Great buy.......2007-09-14
I am very pleased with this product. It allows me to video my 20 month old daughter at almost her height and using my remote, we can be in the video together. Easy to use, folds down quick, and sets up quick. It also has some great features like the removeable plate. Great price for the quality. It also works well with my digital camera.
MUST HAVE.......2007-09-10
For amateurs and pros alike this is an awesome tripod. It's the best quality for the dollar: superior height, smooth adjusting legs, a built-in level, and a case.

Its a good tripod for the price. I am a little freaked out that all of the parts are plastic.
Shaky!.......2007-08-29
It is only good to take still photos using light-weight cameras because when you use heavy lens with yous slr or a big video camea it will shake with any slight touch. But since it is cheap you can use it to take still photos with light-weight cameras

Nikon EN-EL7 Li-ion Rechargeable Battery.......2007-03-09
I've never seen anything like it! You plug it into a recharger, and it gets filled with electricity! Then, you use the electricity until it's all gone--and you can do it over and over--many times! It's 5.5 cm x 3.4 cm x 1.5 cm, black, with a pleasing matte finish. And it comes in a handy hard plastic, snap-shut protective case that you can re-use to hold buttons, paper clips, or whatever! The world needs to know about this!
Charged Up.......2007-01-11
These are the original Nikon batteries. Best of all is the price which was less than half of what I paid when I bought one with the camera.

I bought the battery one month ago. So far, it worked well, just like the original one that came with the camer.

Small size and enhanced 4GB capacity permits you to carry an entire continent of maps or 1,000 songs in your pocket. Reliable storage for data, photos, music, and videos from digital cameras, PDAs, handheld PCs, MP3 digital audio players, laptops and other portable handheld devices Hitachi's new 4GB Microdrive is designed to the Compact Flash Type II industry standard and is compatible with a wide variety of devices that accept CF+ Type II media. The 4GB Microdrive is formatted at the factory using the FAT32 file system to remedy the 2GB limitation of the FAT16 file system.
Customer Reviews:
microdrives........2007-09-15
most cameras need a Fat 16 formated drive.
All 4 GB drives come (IBM or Hitachi or labels) come formated FAT32
so given that fact , most cameras will fail. If yours works , skip this review, ok?
However you can reformat it.
What's worse,
there at 2 types of drives.
Hitachi says
white label is REAL-IDE interface only ( computer , Ipod, MP3 unit, etc)
and that blue label is: CF+ Camera Microdrive
so if you have a white lable , chances are, It will never work with a camera. To be sure, check the model number on your drive againt the Hitachi online specifications to be sure.
To fix FAT32 , get a USB to FC/MD Memory reader device.
find Windows XP pro, Home stinks , find the real thing.
Go to control panel + admin..tools +computer.managment + disk management.
recommend looking before and after pluging in your microdrive
so you will recognize it when plugged in.
find it and right click , delete partition. ( be dang careful here)
now, right click it again, and creat a new partition of 2gb.
when that is done format it to FAT16. ( some times called FAT)
you lost 2gb, but that ok, as many cams have a limit of 2gb, but not all.
set the partition to whatever you camera manaual allows.
the above assume you are not in some recovery mode.
For that you need special software and $40
Kicks after 1 GB.......2007-07-10
I bought two of these 4 GB drives from different vendors and about a year apart, yet I have had the same problem with both of them. At just over 1 gig of photos it starts giving me 'corrupt image' notices, and I have gotten to where I can tell when it's going to happen, because when it does, the camera's display stays on too long after I have taken a shot and then all of my manual settings are reset. I am trying to find research on why it does this, because the reason I bought 4 gigs was so that I did not have to worry about backups while traveling. Now I have to take my laptop or a secondary backup device with me on long trips, which can be cumbersome when travelling internationally, because when these errors begin to happen I have to backup the drive immediately and re-format the card or I can't even continue taking photographs. I have a Canon Eos that's only 3 years old, so the camera should not be the problem.
Disapointed .......2007-06-10
4gb microdrive, batteries all charged up on my Canon EOS 20D. Excited to use the camera at my nephew's graduation. Brother, wanted copies of the pics that I had taken. Much to MY DISAPOINTMENT, went to download the images to my computer, and there's NADA, nothing. I've use a dozen different programs to 'recover' loss data/images, but nothing. I didn't delete any of the pics. I didn't know there's a problem of loss data with the microdrives. Here I am, thinking I'm all set, ready to take pics, and didn't even get one photo. So, with my experience I will not buy another one, and that's why 1 star.
Card crashed after less than a year........2007-04-09
If I had written this review two weeks ago I would be leaving five stars.
I've had this card for less than a year, and use it with my Nikon D70s. I always take great care when handling it, never pressing on the front and back, dropping, or severely jostling it.
I took a few photos and went directly inside to transfer them to my computer, but when the drive mounted everything was garbled and all of my data was gone. I popped it back in my camera to confirm the loss of my photos, and the error read "Card Not Formatted." I then attempted to format the card via my camera, but it would not format. When trying to format it from a computer it just crashed the entire system (multiple machines.) The card is now utterly useless!
I had read of this happening but assumed it was user negligence in some way and bought it anyway. Don't take a chance! Stick with a non-moving CF card instead.
Bought this to use in a camera.......2007-01-04
Bought this to use in a camera.
It is good overall but would prefer a card with higher write speeds.
Sometimes, when you take pictures at a very high rate, you will experience some lag.
I have been using it for about 1 1/2 year now.

The Battery Pack MB-CP11 takes six LR6 (AA) batteries (Alkaline, Lithium, NiCad, or NiMH) and includes alternate shutter-release and zoom buttons that make it easier to take pictures with the camera in vertical position. You can take 300 shots with the MB-CP11 (with LR6-AA batteries). Ideal when more power is needed or you have no time to charge extra batteries.
Customer Reviews:
Nikon battery Pack.......2007-06-27
An excellent substitute for the custom batteries normally used for the camera. The use of nickle-hydride and normal AAs work very well
Good option for backup.......2007-01-17
I wouldn't have paid full price for this but at a little more than the cost of a spare battery it was a good buy. I have two regular 8800 batteries but when traveling and away from a charger I wanted something I could fall back on and AA batteries are available anywhere. Another reason is I don't know how long Nikon will continue to carry the battery designed for the camera. I already have a JVC camcorder that it is impossible to buy a battery for, leaving me tied to the power cord it came with, as well as a few other appliances with propriatary "rechargeable" batteries that have expired and can't be replaced.
I attached the battery pack to my camera to test it out and using a mix of NiMh batteries was surprised at how long it lasted. As somebody already mentioned, with the battery pack on the camera is does not fit in the Coolpix carrying case, it does fit well in my Lowepro case I used to carry around my 35mm SLR cameras in. The batteries also add quite a bit of weight so you need to consider that if you are doing a lot of hiking.
best $20 purchase I've ever made.......2007-01-15
Foe $20... I thought, this must be a piece of junk. But upon receiving it and hooking itup up to my CP8800... I was quite happy and impressed. Not only did it make my CP8800 look like a much coolerPix... this darn this works! Made it much easier to hold the camera. The vertical shutter feature. Now all my Nikons have an Motor drive or a battery pack. He, he, he!
Nice add-on.......2007-01-10
With this battery pack, I can make more pictures then before without changing batteries. I also have a better grip while taking pictures.
Nikon battery pack/grip for coolpix 8800.......2007-01-09
Great item, quality and fit up to Nikion standards.

Customer Reviews:
As expected.......2006-03-19
It would be nice if it was also capable of using 12v (Auto) power.
Product Description
This Neutral Density Filter reduces brightness without affecting contrast or hue. The amount of light reaching the CCD drops to about one quarter (-2EV). Suited to prevent overexposure when the subject is extremely bright or when shooting at slow shutter speeds or large apertures.
Customer Reviews:
Just the right kind of filter for right kind of job.......2007-07-17
I can rate this 5 depends how you use these filter but it would not restrict any image quality.
Nikon ND for Coolpix 8800.......2007-06-08
No problem with quality of filter, it is a Nikon. Unfortunately, their designs have been lacking, like you can't screw an additional filter upon this one. Big draw back. The filter size for their Coolpix 8800 is odd to begin with, somewhere in the 53mm or 54mm range. Odd...only their (3) filters offered seem to fit. Other than that, when on sale good to have.
Product Description
Works with Nikon Coolpix 8400 - 8800 - 4800 Digital Camera Models / USA Plug
Customer Reviews:
Good to have one handy.......2007-04-12
This can be used in lieu of a replacement battery. Plus if an electrical outlet is convienent, like when shooting inside, you never have to worry about running out of power. Also handy if you are mobile and have a auto dc/ac converter. But not as overall convienent as an extra battery. I thought it would also trickle recharge the battery, but it doesn't. Nikon should add this feature in.
AC Adapter.......2005-09-09
It's an AC adapter. One end plugs into the wall, the other end plugs into the camera. It's pretty hard to screw up.
Better than expected.......2005-08-31
This is a must for the Nikon Cameras, battery don't last that much and instead of having to change them all the time, I just plug it in for still shots or photo shoots and click away!
