I am very pleased with this camera. I am taking my first real photography class and this camera is perfect for such a class and for taking photos once I've finished the semester. I don't have to spend precious time trying to figure out which knob to turn or button to push. A quick read of the manual lets you know the basic functions and the camera really does a lot of the brain-work. The manual mode lets me fool around with things to get certain moods or feelings and the pictures are turning out great. A lot of the students are having a hard time reading their cameras' meters, but this camera's meter is really simple to read and very easy to see. The price was great and the quality is fantastic!

Easy to use for techno-impaired.......2007-08-07
I bought this camera just before a trip to the Galapagos, where i knew i would take hundreds of photos, and did not have time to test it by shooting a roll before leaving. After reading the instructions in my typical cursory manner, i shot 8 rolls of film, and the photos were excellent. I found it lightweight, easy to set up and adjust, and the results are just wonderful. A great camera for 'lightweights' who are used to the old SLR unautomated heavy bodied cameras none of us carries around anymore.
Bought it with the case. THe only complaint i have is that the lens cap does not securely clip on, and kept falling up, to be retrieved by my colleagues behind me on the trails.... I need to get an attacher ring so that when it unclips, it does not fall off..

I've used this camera for about five rolls of film in the first couple of weeks I've had it. It makes beautiful photos and is very versatile, not to mention easy to use. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the lens. Not to say it is bad, because it isn't. It's actually great in normal circumstances. I just wanted a tighter zoom for wildlife shots. That's why they make different lenses, and I'm waiting on my 300mm to get here.

I tried digital. I really did. But I could never get the really gorgeous shots I got from my old Yashica SLR which gave up the ghost several years back. I also could not really "focus" on what I was shooting...just pointed and shot because there was no film to run out of. The result? Pointless pics that weren't even that good looking. Digital just didn't feel "right." So about 8 months ago I decided to go back to film. What to get? After much research, I finally decided on the Canon T2. Absolutely brilliant camera. My favorite feature? I can let the camera handle focus, etc. OR I can go COMPLETELY MANUAL. May not seem like a big deal, but it feels so good being in control of what the camera does when you want to be. And of course, that means letting your imagination go...something sorely lacking in digital. Couldn't be happier and no more pointless pics. Okay, maybe a few, but they still look good. And isn't that the point?

For the money it's hard to go wrong with this lens. I have used it on my Rebel 35mm SLR and on my Canon Rebel XTi and have had good luck with both. Sure, it may not give 100% of the image quality of a $300 or $500 lens, but for the money you get a good lens and save a lot of money to put towards a nice zoom lens.

Lens is fine now that I have it...First one had to be returned, defective, and I got the return of the good one 2 weeks later, no problem on the return..Everyone cooperated fine. Recommend all highly.

Clarity and sharpness of the pictures are not that great. Yet, if you think about the price of this lens, it's not really that bad. The material used feels and looks like a toy. If you really want a good wide angle lens, I recommend Canon 10-22mm or if you want something cheaper, a Sigma 10-20mm will give you the best result.

At such a low price you get a decent lens. It is not the sharpest but what do you expect for 80 bucks? However it is sharp enough for the work I do. The Vignetting is nice also! If you do more creative photography work and your concerns are other then the sharpest lens, you'll really enjoy this for the value! only complaint the lens cap fits a bit flimsy-definitely get a 72mm filter to go with it to protect it!

A four-position keypad on the back of the camera also makes autofocus point selection more intuitive and faster, providing overall better performance for users. The improved high-speed shutter on the Rebel T2 model boasts a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 second and X-sync at 1/125 sec. Also, due to faster shutter cocking, the viewfinder blackout time has been shortened from 180 milliseconds to approx. 150 ms., which makes the shooting experience more pleasant and productive. Also incorporated in the Rebel T2 is the E-TTL II autoflash metering system, which is used for both the built-in flash and external EX-series Speedlites. The E-TTL II flash system, which is compatible with most EF lenses, consistently produces accurate flash exposures, even when shooting light, dark or highly reflective subjects. Other features which make the camera more user friendly and worry-free include a shutter lock that prevents shooting if there is no film in the camera or if no lens is attached to the camera, and an anti-shake warning which can be turned on to prevent the user from taking a picture if the shutter speed is too low for hand-held photography according to the focal length of the lens. Great Beginner's Camera for my 11-year old novice son!.......2007-07-23
We were really pleased with the product. Further, 47thStreet Photo was very responsive from the beginning (invoice, shipping, received). Their one letter that offered a five-year warranty on top of the one year warranty for only $30 was an incredible deal. However, they failed to mention that you only had 30 days from the date of the offer to sign up. We did not have the money on hand until after the 30 days; so we missed out. Despite their prompt replies, I've since written a note to them in reflection of this, but I have not received an answer back (five days).

Nice toy for hobbiist or amateur photographer. Only the plastic ring never lock the zoom setting.Picture is little darker,but ISO 400 and higher could fix that.
No turnkey photography.......2007-01-21
This thing gets you in REALLY CLOSE. I even used it with a 2x TelePlus converter. I was never able to successfully take pictures with my Canon EOS digital Rebel without going full manual, though. Canon auto settings make the wrong calculations for some reason. That said, when you are shooting manual, you can follow the Canon recommendations and things work out ok.
You HAVE to have a tripod, and the tripod has to be really beefy. I bought the heaviest tripod I could find in town, and the one I bought couldn't hold this thing up without bending.
This scope (because that's what it is) looks expensive, but feels cheap. The focus and zoom locks are friction based and feel like they're going to wear out sooner, rather than later. You're going to want to use this to get close to something that's far, far away and that is a LOT of work. Even with my new, beefy tripod, I had to bungie the lens (yes, with a bungie cord) and aim above what I was shooting. I had to aim it such that when I let go of it to shoot, the weight would drop it down to the correct position.
I gave it two stars only because, in sufficient light (i.e, noon in August on a good day) you can still take good pictures. This would make a great telescope for the girls, and that's what I'm going to convert it to as soon as I can find the adapter.
I can't emphasize the quality of this lens enough. This lens is rare in one way--quality this poor is getting harder and harder to find. If you have too much money, I recommend you buy this lens. Otherwise, save up your cash and buy something else. Seriously. Don't think this lens is going to save you money.
Big lens with a big zoom........2006-10-03
There are many positive features about this lens and there are a few negative this too. I have used this lens on Canon and Nikon cameras, it can be adapted to any mount with the correct t-adapter.
-This lens produces very sharp pictures only if you have your camera on a tripod. With all lenses, the more zoom, the less area of view. Do not think you will be holding this lens in your hands shooting.
-This lens needs light. It works great outdoors. I have taken many shots of birds, houses, trees, ect)
Overall, it is the only lens under $600 that can zoom as far as it can. You just need to understand want it can and cannot do. I am happy with it.
Take your time, use a tripod...save thousands and thousands!.......2006-04-19
Greetings again friends SiNMiN here to add my 2 cents into this fray. First off if you do not have the time or inclination to fuss with tripods, shutter speeds, and ISO settings when it comes to this lens you might want to look somewhere else. Contrary to what one of the other reviewers said in bright light and a average steady hand you can in fact use this lens hand-held. But put this lens on a tripod with either a rebel 350D or even better a 20D body, a remote shutter, and a photographer with the cool head and know how, and you can get some pretty amazing results (especially with the 20D). The hardest part about using the lens is actually getting it to lock on target using a tripod. "Take your time". Overall I was amazed at the build quality and the optics quality in the lens for the money, it is every bit as solid as any of my Canon or Sigma lenses, and the glass isn't the same quality but well enough in the ball park to make it more than worth the money.I do think its too bulky and slow for sport photography, but for astral and nature work, do your self a favor and save your self about 10 grand!Plus if you really want to get crazy you could use it with a 2X multiplyer like I do! 2600mm!! Not as good as you would think, even for the price........2006-01-29
This does get you close. My camera (a Canon Digital Rebel EOS) badly overexposes with this lens. I have to shoot full manual. That's ok, but it increases the work I have to do to get the shot.
I am able to focus at items within about 30 feet. But changing the zoom also changes the focus. When extend to the full 1600mm it becomes badly unbalanced. Once I select the subject at full zoom I have to hold onto the camera to take the shot. Othewise, the weight of the lens pulls the camera down. But I can only get clear shots at a long distance by setting the timer on the camera and letting go of it. Otherwise it shakes too much. It's therefore very difficult to take long-distance pictures using my $50.00 tripod. If you buy this lens, you'd better buy an expensive tripod to go with it. You'll probably find yourself using the short end of it most of the time--meaning you won't get the full benefit of the 1600 millimeters advertised.
Also, the manual mentions an adjustable aperture that doesn't exist. And the zoom action definitely feels cheap. This lens will work with just about any camera built since 1960 because it has a detachable camera mount. But it feels a little loose and cheap.
I'm not sure whether I'm going to return this or not. It does let me get in close, but so far I haven't been able to get decent shots with it.

if you want a great wide angle lenses without spending alot ,buy this one it does everything I have asked it to do,,and is great in tight areas ,,I take alot of room pictures and this lense allows me to get more of the room into each shot.no trouble ,,i did add a uv lense for protection more than anything else..
Excellent Product.......2007-01-19
Purchased this as a second choice vs a more expensive one as a christmas present to myself. I found it to be just what I wanted. Showed it to my daughter-in -law in Morganfield, KY who is a professional photographer and within the hour she got on the computer and purchased the exact same lense for use in her business. We both used these lenses over the holidays and could not be any happier. Great !!! Great !!! Great !!!
Tokina AF193 19-35mm on a Canon 350d (Rebel XT).......2007-01-04
The Tokina 19-35 is a affordable wide angle lens for the EF lens line. The autofocus works well (including in low light situations). The lines is of decent quality material (I don't think there is any plastic on the lines) and has worked flawlessly so far. I would recommend picking up the lens hood to reduce stray light from entering the lens. If you are looking for a wide angle lens this is very affordable. However, if you have the standard lens that comes with the 350D this lens won't provide a significant difference in terms of a wide shot.

GREAT LENS FOR THE $.......2006-11-10
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WIDE ANGLE ZOOM LENS ON THE MARKET FOR THE MONEY. I USE IT ON MY CANON DIGITAL REBEL AND IT IS GREAT!
High performance, low price........2006-05-20
I recently bought one of these lenses and the first thing I did was test the optics. I was surprised to find that the resolution at full aperature was very high (center and edge) and marginally improved until you hit f8 or so. At f11 the image starts to soften up and at f22 it gets VERY soft. This lens likes to run at the wide side of the aperature scale. At 19mm, CA can be spotted at full aperature on objects backlit by a bright sky... but in minimal amounts. Stopping down to f5.6 removes any trace and produces a nice sharp image. I'd say this lens produces good images wide-open and outstanding images from f5.6 to f8. Anything above f11 should be avoided.
I compared the performance of this lens to my Sigma 24-70 EX DG and I find that Tokina holds up well in the comparison. The best images from the Sigma were no sharper than those from the Tokina at the same focal length. This says a lot considering the reputation the Sigma 24-70 has for image quality. CA levels were comparible between the Sigma and Tokina also (in short, VERY low and in controllable amounts).
Bottom line: I picked this up new for $125 plus $5 shipping. It easily keeps pace with lenses 4 times its price. If you want to buy a DSLR, I recommend that you buy the body only and pick up one of these lenses for starters.
