Logitech [Is Not Good]!!.......2001-06-02
Buy Logitech webcams at your own risk. I had a terrible experience with Logitech Quickcam pro 3000. The software would install, windows detects the camera, but after rebooting the machine, the camera is just not detected. When I looked at the device in device manager, all it would say was "Device cannot be started (Code 10)". Tried it under both Windows 98 and 2000, with the same problems. My advice, go with Intel or 3Com
No Windows 2000 Support.......2001-05-24
I received this Christmas two months before Windows 2000 was officially released. I was running Windows 98SE and all was well. I would be upgrading though when Windows 2000 became available.
Logitech promised on their website that drivers would be provided at the end of February, at the time of the offical release date. Made sense.
No drivers were ever posted.
After multiple emails and months of waiting for drivers, they recently announced they would not be supporting it at all.
Of course you can phone them and they will give you a ... certificate for a new camera if you already own one of these. I don't want a certificate, I eiter want drivers, or I want a new camera all together.
Don't waste your money or time with this camera.
Logitech abandons customers.......2001-03-20
I bought the QuickCamVC USB version, which worked fine under Windows 95/98. But then I upgraded to Windows 2000, and Logitech, who bought the product line from Connectix, has stated on their web site that they will not develop Windows 2000 drivers for the USB version of this camera, although they do support the parallel port version. It seems that I have to throw out my perfectly good cam and buy another. It will not be a Logitech!
Fun and Productive........2001-03-09
I just bought this camera so that I can start Net Meetings. The installation was very easy. I do not have a CD-Rom on my laptop, but used my cable modem to download the information from the Logitech site. After downloading the drivers I was able to install the required software, plug the camera in the USB port and I was on my way.
The software includes 8 different sections:
1. Create pictures and videos: You can take pictures or make a video.
2. Create Video E-mail: You can record your own video (Audio and Video) and sent it to people in your mail distribution list. Works very well.
3. Create a Web album: As the title states this is an image repository.
4. Create a Web Cam: Logitech signs you up with a 3rd party web site that hosts live Web cam. A little choppy but works well.
5. Broadcast Live: You can record your own TV show and invite people to view your show at a given time. The recording is done with the camera and the broadcasting by the 3rd party vendor mentioned above.
6. Create Animation: This activity let's you create stop-motion and time-lapse videos.
7. Activate Motion Director: Use the sensor to see who is in your house/room. You can set the sensitivity and have it record immediately.
8. Look at my Gallery: You can store, sort and organize your images and videos in this location.
The user interface of the software is very well with all the mentioned sections having a step-by-step guide. Within the software main screen you have two windows. One window guides you real-time as your camera focuses and the other window displays the result of your action (snap-shoot, video, web cast, etc.) The unit itself has a button to take snap shots, a sensor for detecting movement, a microphone that adds value (and a must) that enables Net Meetings and Internet phone calls - This is where the productive part comes in.
I gave this a four star because of the image size and zoom capability and the colors of the output (good but needs some touching up).

Windows 2000 Users Beware.......2001-02-15
Before purchasing this camera I checked out Logitech's web site to make sure that they supported Windows 2000 - they did. Unfortunately, when the camera arrived, there was a one page 'Windows 2000 Users Read This First' in the box. It only sort-of supports Windows 2000. It doesn't support dual booting with Windows 98 because of 'installer issues'. And some of the bundled software doesn't work on Windows 2000. Installation required two reboots, one suggested by the installer, and a second simply because Windows 2000 (SP1) didn't seem to 'get it' the first time. The camera seems to work well, and the low-light option is useful. The included main utility is simple to use, but could probably have done with a proper MDI interface. It's possible to be using the camera from one part of the program, say for the 'motion sensor', which causes another part, for example the emailer, to report a 'camera in use' error. I guess the user interface has been a little over-simplified. ...

The webcam flops - you sit it upright, it falls over, biggest piece of electronic crap I've ever bought. The only cool thing was the surveillance software, however the pictures it took also crap.

This is a great little camera. The build quality is high. The flexible monitor stand, which bends to fit to the top of your flat panel or crt monitor, is a great design and works really well for me. It is heavy enough to stay where you put it. The cable is long and of nice quality. The camera has a microphone built-in, which is a nice, clutter-reducing feature. The picture quality is really good - more than high enough for a web-cam, probably even fine for higher end use. Recommended.

I have had many webcams, but this one is the way to go! It is easy to setup and takes great still shots as well as clear video. I have recomended this to many of my web cam friends and we have all thought this is thw best webcam for the price!

trust me guys...I read a lot of reviews for this product and did not believe that it could be this good.I also took the recommendations of skeptics and tried to avoid it. I first installed the software and then rebooted the computer. Then, I attached the webcam and voila!....absolutely unbelievable quality. Works fantastic in the dark and the mic is great too...I have used a lot of webcams previously, but this beats them hands down.

This camera is wonderfully light and small, yet still has great visual capabilities. The only problem that I am experiencing is the supports used to mount it on the lap top are weak and seldom keep the camera stable/steady...which causes much confusion on the viewers end and frustration on my end of things!

I moved from England to America and wanted to keep in contact with my family. The Logitech QuickCam has been great. It is really easy to set up, and the quality is not bad. I love the carry case, and the whole thing is small enough to travel around with me. Definitely a good purchase and at a competative price.

I was hesitating before buying this item and even did not try it to write anything couple of days. I was thinking that I made wrong choice. But... everything had changed instantly, when I tried to write a clip on a disk. It went beyond my expectations. I was surprised by the writing speed of the drive. Now, I know that it was write choice. Moreover, if somebody wants take it overseas, he/she does not need to buy voltage converter. Its adapter is compatible with U.S. and European voltage standards. Great product. Never regret.
$100 boat anchor.......2003-06-11
I'm overseas and shipped one of these to someone to carry over for me. Was that a mistake. Not only was the USB card bad, the drive won't properly install on either of my machines.
BTW, according to tech support the min processor speed for this device is 850 NOT the 500 Amazon lists. Explains one of the machines, but the other is a 1.1G, so perhaps the drive I got is bad...
Not so great with Windows 98.......2003-06-02
This product may be as good as the reviews I've read, but seeing as I couldn't get it loaded correctly on my computer, I'll never know. If you have Windows 98, I would suggest getting something else. Customer service at Pacific Digital were very nice, but their tips didn't work to help fix my problem.
Poor Quality Product - Zero Star Rating!.......2003-06-02
I regret purchasing this product. While the burn process goes through to the end without any problems, about half the CD's have errors such that some of the files on them cannot be read - no matter which CD-ROM I try. I have tried recording from 4X to 16X speeds (mine will never record at 32X) - and it is always the same story. I use TDK media rated at 48X - and its the same story with other branded media - they fare even worse.
I sure have as many coaster as good disks. The coasters were made even when the drive was cool - it does get rather hot after a couple of operations - so this is another thing to keep in mind. While it does get hot, there are no cooling vents.
I bought this product because I was very happy with an earlier Pacific digital IDE based CDRW - which was a rebranded Mitsumi CDRW. I had expected them to excercise similar care with this product and expected that they would have used a CDRW internal drive that had good performance specs and could write reliably.
The CDRW drive is made by a company called "Cyberdrive" and they probably have a lot to learn before they can make a drive that can write reliably.
I am very dissapointed and plan to stay away from a Pacific Digital product next time around. I advise you to do the same.
Worked fine with XP, not with ME.......2003-05-25
It might just be my "hand-built" computer, but I could not get the VIA USB 2.0 card included with this drive to work with my Windows ME machine (a 400 mHz Pentium II). The card was recognized, all of the appropriate drivers were automatically installed and it showed up as "working" in my Control Panel. It didn't. I finally dropped the card into my wife's Windows XP machine and it worked perfectly. Didn't even need to use the accompanying CD, it just recognized the card and configured it automatically. I read that Windows ME (and Windows 98) did not natively support USB 2.0 and that that USB 2.0 drivers had to be written by the card manufacturer. Windows XP already has native support for USB 2.0. Apparently, my Windows ME machine does not like the VIA drivers.
