The best keyboard I have ever used.......2007-09-27

This is the best keyboard I have ever used. I have been using computers fill time for the past 12 years and I have used all kinds of keyboards. From the old IBM ones, to the HP keyboards that are shipped with their HP UX machines, to the SGI workstation keyboards and some random multimedia ones.

However, when I tried this keyboard last year (when it was on some sale), I knew that I have found my keyboard. I subsequently took it to work and purchased another one for home. I know that if I ever buy another keyboard, it will be the same one, or some future revision of this keyboard.

I love this keyboard. It takes a lot of the strain off of the top of hands and wrists due to the way it tilts forward (there is a riser on the front part of the keyboard). The keys themselves are also at a very comfortable angle. There are also 5 programmable hot keys which are very convenient.

This keyboard is very nice, quality feel and very comfortable. But the one thing that gets me is the space bar...it is kind of hard to depress at times but I'm sure anybody can get used to it. I'm certainly getting the hang of this. Overall 4 and a half stars!

Great bells and whistles; deeply flawed and unusable keyboard.......2007-09-17

This keyboard has wonderful bells and whistles, and I _really want to love it. However, I find that the space key istotally non-functional; it loves to either not add a space or add too many. As you can see from this review, maybe one out of ten times or so the space key malfunctions. ___It's particularly bad when I tap it twice quickly at the end of a sentence. ___What you see here isthe unedited results of typing on this keyboard. While it's annoying and intrusive typing prose, it's completely unusable for applications which use the space key as apaging mechanism (eg, reading mail or an RSS feed via an RSS reader, when it skips _a bunch of items and marks them "read"). [Since HTML doesn't show the extra spaces, I've gone back and replaced all the extras with "_" -- it doesn't type the underscores, it adds extra spaces.]

My wife works at Microsoft so I got this for a steep (and non-refundable) discount. I can't imagine paying $50 for this fundamentally flawed device.

Multipurpose Keyboard.......2007-09-12

Ever since I discovered ergonomic keyboards about 10 years ago, I haven't gone back to regular ones. The only time I use a regular one is when I am at work. Regular ones are ok, but the Ergonomic design is just better.
If you have trouble typing, or learning the home row or whatever, this is the kind of keyboard you want because it helps you remember what keys are were..much easier than with the regular keyboard that just puts everything together.
As far as gaming goes, the ergonomic design just helps out that much more. It allows you to find your shortcuts a lot quicker than with a regular design, same as with typing.

The only drawback is as others have mentioned-The Spacebar. It is harder to press than the rest of the keys..but that's alright, other than that, the thing is perfect.
Logitech does offer fancier keyboards..but it's a shame none of them (the newer ones, at least, all my previous ergo's were logi) are ergonomic.

I love the keys on this keyboard. They're quiet but responsive, light to the touch but also non-flimsy. The curve brings a natural feel to the keyboard--not as drastic as some out there. Personally, the extra buttons (volume control, play/pause, calculator, back page, forward page) I find immensely helpful. Quite happy with this buy!

Great keyboard, great value.......2007-08-31

I purchased this keyboard as a supplement to my laptop, since the laptop keyboard is so small and put a lot of strain on my wrists and arms. I love this Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard! It took only about 10 minutes to get used to the curve. I work about 12-16 hours per day, and the stress on my wrists and arms has decreased significantly. The keyboard is also relatively quiet, so when I am on conference calls, no one can hear me typing (unlike a coworker, whose keyboard is so loud, we know she is on the call with her tap-tap-tap). (I work from home.)

I was considering some of the more expensive ergonomic keyboards, but this one did the trick. It is not as "funky" as some of the others I have seen out there, and has just enough of a curve to facilitate a much better position. I have not experienced any of the minor complaints others have stated, like the extra buttons at the top. I use them regularly! I also do not have a problem with the smaller keys, like the CTRL key, since it is the same size as the other keys, and same size as my laptop CTRL key. I highly recommend this keyboard.

Lightweight and flimsy! Avoid this keyboard.......2007-08-26

Well, right out of the box I was impressed. It was light and typed fairly nicely, but after a few weeks keys started getting stuck or just not working at all.

Now, after a few months, the shift key sticks or doesn't work every other time. Also, a few keys have just totally gone dead and you have to bang them down to make it work again. I'm not a heavy typer or anything, and am not usually prone to banging on my keyboards, so it's not something I did to it.

At any rate, go for another keyboard and save yourself the trouble.

Good Keyboard for a cheap price.......2007-08-25

I bought this keyboard four months ago and I have enjoyed it for the most part. This keyboard replaced a Microsoft Natural Keyboard that bit the dust after nine years. As to its features, its a curved keyboard which better follows the contour of your hands such that using the keyboard feels more natural and comfortable. The extra buttons on top will work with your default [windows] media player and web browser, and then there is a calculator button (which works too). I don't find them to be that useful myself, except the volume control buttons which do work with the overall system volume. Play attention to the keyboard layout; not all layouts are the same and changing layouts always drives me crazy ... thus, my choice in this keyboard was not mistake. The keyboard is quite low profile so it fits nicely under the keyboard tray.

So now for the cons, the keyboard may be curved but it is not truly ergonomic. After four months of using the keyboard, my right wrist began to hurt quite a bit. So much so, that my 12 lbs baby would almost bring me to tears if I supported her with that hand. I program 8-12 hours a day, so I am a heavy user, I am right handed and do use a mouse often; with these things in mind, I know the keyboard alone cannot be the only factor leading to my wrist pain. After learning about what is and isn't ergonomic, and therefore what is good and bad for my wrist, I learned that this keyboard had to be replaced or used much less frequently. I got an ergonomic MS Natural keyboard again and MS Natural mouse. After about two weeks, the pains have been greatly reduced. I still like this keyboard but I cannot use it. I would not recommend this for anyone with wrist pains such as tendinitis, carpal tunnel or other wrist repetitive activity issues.

This style of keyboard takes a little getting use to, but it fits the hands/wrists much better than a straight keyboard. This one doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but I didn't want that. I can recommend this one to anybody.

I loved the original Microsoft Natural Keyboard. To be honest, when I first got it, I was reluctant to use it. However, being a professional software developer and writer, I spent a lot of time at the keyboard and needed to consider trying an ergonimic keyboard to help alleviate the problems of RSI. After forcing myself to try it for a while, I feel in love with the original Microsoft Natural Keyboard and when it came time to replace my first one after many year of use, I found the original version was no longer available and the only available option from Microsoft at the time was this Natural Keyboard Elite. Well, I used this thing for a few days before determining that this was a very poor excuse for a keyboard following in the footsteps of the original Natural Keyboard from Microsoft. This keyboard is way to small for anyone used to a full sized keyboard for full touch typing. And worst, the layout of the other keys outside of the main qwerty area of the keyboard, specifically the cursor key, is just a terrible layout for anyone who has used a keyboard regularly at any time in the past 40 years. Whoever at Microsoft that is responsible for this should be embarrased and get a replacement for this thing on the market to get rid of this thing to save face for themselves! I went through a whole variety of other ergonomic keyboards from other vendors without much satisfaction until Microsoft finally came out with the Natural Keyboard 4000 which is a worthy replacement for the original Natural Keyboard.

Felt good, failed quickly.......2007-07-15

To be blunt, it "crapped out" after 4 months and I don't do a lot of typing. I work on electronics for a living and I know how to care for and maintain devices so I tried to clean it. Nothing changed. It simply had several keys quit working. I had to go back to using the keyboard that came with my computer which is especially disappointing because I got used to the feel of the ergonomic keyboard and liked it.

Very good wireless keyboard/mouse option.......2007-09-18

This is a great product for the price. All of your most-used functions (calculator, My Documents, browser, volume control, etc.) at the push of a button. The only problem I've had is when playing music through iTunes, the mute button doesn't work. Strange conflict between software and hardware. This is the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars from me (and that sounds like more of a problem with iTunes, since that's the only app that has the issue).

This product is pretty much plug and play if you are running XP or Vista. IT WORKS GREAT WITHOUT THE SOFTWARE. In fact installing the software actually makes this product function worse. By not installing the software, you will not be able to use some of the multimedia buttons (My Docs, My Pics, My Music, and the Media Play Controls), I never really missed these buttons any way.

Its a solid product at a good price which does not drain batteries (batteries will last about 4-6 months). Mine even came with a bonus travel mouse which I use with my laptop. Recommended if you can live withs its quirks.

Very Nice Set !.......2007-08-28

I have to start remembering to look at Amazon prices first before I buy elsewhere, I actually went to the Staples Store, they had this set for $54.98. But they did have one out, on display. The keyboard keys have a very nice feel to them, as well as the options and design make typing a very easy task. The keyboard is quiet when you type and the mouse is a very nice addition to the set. The mouse moves very quickly and accurately, the setup was easy. I just installed the software and plugged the USB into the back of the computer and it recogonized the new hardware immediately. Batteries were included, which makes it an even better deal.

Great buy, esp if this is your first time wireless keyboard and mouse, as it is mine. And for thsi Amazon price, you can't go wrong, especially due to the free shipping. Grab it now, you wont be disappointed.

This is a terrific item to accompany your laptop at home. The wireless features are always a plus and working with a mouse instead of the mouse provided on a laptop is so much easier. This is definitely a must have item for your home.

Nice wireless set.......2007-07-16

This is a really good "basic" wireless keyboard and mouse set. The software installed just find and after that I plugged in the receiver and was ready to go. It was really snappy and responsive right out of the box. Sometimes people get issues because the battery is low to begin with (remember the battery has been sitting in the package since it was shipped to Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, etc.) Also the proximity of portable phones, other wireless devices, etc will sometimes mess with the signal.

I really like the keyboard. It has a soft feel and is rather quite comfortable. It's not like those old loud IMB clicky types. Depending on your preference you might find the keyboard "mushy" but I think it's just right. There's a few special function keys for e-mail, web homepage and volume controls. I can do without most of them except for the calculator quick launch button. Its great to just hit a button have the calculator popup. I think all keyboards should have this.

The mouse is good too. It's a basic optical mouse a two button one scroll wheel job. It's nothing fancy but then again I don't need a fancy mouse with 5 or 7 buttons. The scroll wheel is nice. It's a clicky one meaning you can scroll line-by-line. There are ridges on the wheel itself which I appreciate as I severely dislike the smooth wheels. The mouse is a bit heavy towards the back end. Probably because both the battery and transmitter are there but it only takes a few minutes to get used to.

There are two things that I don't like but they aren't deal breakers. The first is the rather large receiver. It's not a deal breaker but if you've got limited desktop space it's a pain for sure. The second is that the mouse and keyboard are always "on". As far as I can tell they don't auto-hibernate when not in use for a while or turn themselves off when the computer is shutdown. So in order to fully power them off you've got to take the battery out. I have owned the mouse that's included in the set separately and used it with my old computer. The battery (2 AAs) lasted for about 3 months. I'm sure if I pulled them out every time I shut the computer down it would have lasted for 6. But I'm lazy and had a bag full of AAs so what did I care?

This is a very good product for a decent price. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews they must have gotten a lemon or something because every MS mouse or keyboard I've used has been awesome. If fact the only bad keyboards and mice I've used have been non-MS ones. The Logitech mice are too large and expensive. Belkin keyboards are awful and anything made by Kensington is just atrocious. Overall, I really like this keyboard mouse set and if you can pick it up on the cheap it's a great product.

Here's what I DON'T like about it.......2007-09-13

For those looking for a laptop-feel light-touch keyboard this is good, although keyboard preferences are a very personal choice. Here's what I DON'T like about it:

1) The required software/drivers took a long time to install.... I don't like the idea of saddling my computer with that much software just to type and use a mouse.

2) I refuse to download Microsoft's Genuine Advantage "Upgrade" on principal. All of my software is genuine and registered, but the way Microsoft tricked its users into downloading an upgrade that essentially spies on them is unacceptable, and it's caused users problems...

Immediately after installing the Desktop 7000 software, it said "There is an upgrade required", but when you try to download the upgrade, it's only available to those who have installed Microsoft's Genuine Advantage spyware. I may be obstinate, but I'm not doing it.

3) The keys are so smooth and light, you may feel like there's not enough "push back" to let you know when you've triggered a key. So far, I'm making more spelling errors typing at high speed than my previous keyboard because of that, but I'll probably get used to it.

Entertainment Desktop 7000.......2007-09-04

I pre-ordered this the day it was released...Have been using it since February 2007...It has me so spoiled with it's luxurious feel...and the mouse is awesome!!!so smooth and perfectly accurate...I have recieved no lag time as other reviewers have stated and the batteries that were enclosed with it are still in it...Just for the record I spilled an entire cup of coffee in the keyboard with no consequences...Also Vista Ultimate has no issues returning from sleep considering it's wireless as I have had w/ other brands...I absolutely recommend it!

UNUSABLE for business.......2007-08-31

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING THIS KEYBOARD/MOUSE SET
First of all, maybe I should have read the description more carefully.

Microsoft calls this an "Entertainment" keyboard. I guess I can't be "entertained" at work because there are three things make this keyboard completely unusable for business:

1. No number pad. Major deductions for this. (I realize this is an "Entertainment" keyboard (whatever that means) but Microsoft should have made a second model exactly like this - one with a number pad and one without ... or do like Logitech did ... offer the keypad as a separate device)

2. The F-keys across the top are not actual keys. (That's not the problem). The problem is, they are touch sensitive. I challenge anyone to use this keyboard for a day without accidentally brushing a finger across the Escape key or F1 key at least a dozen times. Serious design flaw. Maybe it's cool that the F-keys are touch sensitive, but they DEFINITELY need to be farther away from the top row of keys on the keyboard!!

3. The third issue I have with this is on the mouse ... on previous mouse designs, the 'forward' and 'back' buttons were on the left side of the mouse (by yout thumb for those of you who are right-handed). On this design, the mouse is completely symmetrical. The 'back' button is still by your thumb, but the 'forward' button is on the right side of the mouse. I dont know about you, but I dont have a thumb growing out both sides of my hand. So who out there can tell me how to press this button without taking your hand off of the mouse... anyone? anyone? bueller? bueller?

That being said, two things make this keyboard/mouse WAY cool:

1. The keyboard design is nice, and the keys feel perfect (almost as nice as the keys on a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop).

2. This is the first time I have used a 'laser' mouse. I have to say it is MUCH better than an optical mouse. I always thought the laser mouse was a marketing gimmick but in fact this is the REAL way a mouse should feel.

So ... two stars.

Please fix these three serious flaws on an otherwise great product!

sleek low profile keyboard.......2007-08-24

I had a Logitech and had nothing but trouble. This is the perfect alternative. It is trouble free. It stays put and does not slide around on the desk. It take up very little space. When I shut down my computer I had to play with my logitech keyboard because my computer would not recognize it. I used logitech support 23 times. Microsoft has made a great keyboard!

After having this keyboard for a month, I am so happy with it I decided to write my first review. I recently supplemented my laptop with a Vista desktop computer and didn't like the keyboard that came with the computer. I started having some wrist problems so decided to look at ergonomic keyboards. Wireless was a must. I tried the different keyboards and mouse(s; mice?) that I could find locally and decided I liked the feel of the microsoft keyboard the most, although this particular model wasn't available. After reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a try.

It took me a while to get used to the keyboard layout, then it just suddenly seemed natural. I really love it and I don't usually love inanimate objects! At first I blamed the keyboard when letters were dropped, but do not have a problem now that I am used to the keyboard. The keys have a crisp clean feel that only require a light touch but can handle it just as well when I am really "pounding" away. They are not "spongy" or "sticky" at all. I do enjoy typing on this keyboard! My wrist problems have disappeared. I have no problem with the space bar which some people noted on earlier models.

Not having a number pad was a deliberate trade off I made in order to have the keyboard fit on my desk's typing shelf. This is no problem for me since most of my work is straight typing and I was already adept at using the number keys above the letter keys anyway.

After having used a touchpad on laptops exclusively for a number of years I did not like going back to using a mouse. One annoyance with the mouse that came with my computer, in addition to the wrist problems, was that the scroll wheel moved with "little clicks". The Microsoft wheel moves smoothly with no clicky feeling or sound. It is also more ergonomically designed and much more comfortable than the earlier one I had. As a matter of fact I haven't used the touchpad on the keyboard at all even though it was another of the reasons I chose this model! More on it later!

The only complaint I have is that there is sometimes a lag time when I first start typing. That may be something in the computer though since it goes away when I have been typing a while.

I am still learning all the functions provided by this keyboard, but for just plain typing I don't think it can be beat!

Quality Keyboard.......2007-07-04

Unlike many people, I just want a standard keyboard with good touch and a PS2 (not USB) plug. Although this model has some custom keys for email, brower activation, music, etc, I didn't bother with them. The keys are a standard layout except for the Home/End cluster which is vertical instead of horizontal. That places the Insert key where the Delete key usually is, but it hasn't been much of a problem. For the price, I think this is a good buy, and much better than other $15 keyboards.

I am sold on this board. The aesthetics are great! The blue backlit keys enable me to play in the dark without sacrificing key visibility. It seems exceptionally well made too. I originally bought the Razer Tarantula keyboard, but this one BLOWS IT AWAY for half the cost (and the Tarantula does no thave backlit keys). BUY THIS BOARD!

I bought this keyboard to replace the dozens of keyboards I have tried in the past. I could never get one that suited me. The lighting is great and the keystroke response is excellent. This is a definite recommendation if you're up late at night doing work or playing games.

A stong contender.......2007-08-17

In my quest for a solid gaming keyboard I ordered the Reclusa for a great price. I'm typing this right now on it and I must say, it's quite comfortable. The keys I naturally reach for are in the right spot. This has been a problem for some of the wireless keyboards I'm using on my HTPC and PS3. The spacing is very good and there isn't a lot of extra bulk/width like the current G15 on the market. The volume "knob" is also a nice touch as it's easier to dial-in versus the common Up/Down buttons.

Pros:

- Zero lag. I know this is hard to measure, but it's a gaming keyboard and that's one of the reasons I bought this. It's good to know that when I hit a key, what I want to happen, happens.
- Clean, blue backlighting is just the right brightness level in all lighting conditions
- Size. Not too big (cough, current G15) not too small.
- Two built-in USB ports.
- Wristpad is very comfortable.
- Volume knob/jog dial instead of up/down buttons.
- Customization. Shortcuts and marcos are within easy reach of the "home position" or the "WASD" position.

Cons:

- No mute key. Seriously. If the volume knob would push in (think Xbox 360 controller) it would be a great mute button.
- When you stand the keyboard up (you know, those little legs in the back) it loses the rubber grip it had on the desk and it's not as sturdy. I usually use my keyboard in this inverted position so it's going to take me a while to get used to it flat.
- The shape is a bit dated. Square, edgy, cut is in. Egg-shaped is out.
- Shiny/glossy plastic part (where the Microsoft logo is) is bound to get scratched up. I know, nitpicky, but it's going to happen.

Conclusion:

All in all, a great gaming keyboard in the ~$50 range.

Note: Make sure to get the latest driver/software from Microsoft. Version 1.02 (came out July 20th 2007) fixed a bug which did not allow programming of modifier (CTRL/ALT/SHIFT) keys.

It's a very nice keyboard for the price
Keys are fairly quiet, the lighted keys are great for using in the dark, The hand rest is squishyish foam which is nice, and comfortable.
Only complaint is that it has fairly large knobs on each side, one to zoom and one to control the volume, which is nice, but it just looks kind of weird.
Goes well with the matching Habu Mouse
No problems with the install software either.

For 50 plus dollar, might seen been too much for just a keyboard, of course is for everyone, but for gamer, or want a keyboard that is cool looking and conform, this is the one you want. No need to spend nearly 100 dollar for the other keyboard, this got the feature you need but does suffer some cons.

Overall, no doubt this is the best keyboard if youn plan to spend a above average mid range price tag for a gaming keyboard. To be honese i think this keyboard look better than any logitech keyboard has to offered.

The Microsoft Business Hardware Pack is an excellent value for a keyboard and mouse set. A month ago I ordered 4 units for my small business. They've worked without any problems on our Macs. The software seems to function well and allows for all the additional keys and mouse buttons to be properly configured. Fantastic keyboard, but not this 5 pack.......2007-04-02

I love this keyboard and have been only using this keyboard since at least 2001. It is sturdy and doesn't have extra features, it isn't wireless, and it is a bit of a quirky key layout that bothers some people (the arrow keys are smaller than on many keyboards) - but I love it.

The reason for my low rating on this product is not on the keyboard, but on this actual sales page.

It says that this is a 5 pack of keyboards, and when I ordered it, a single keyboard came. I sent it back to Amazon, they apologized and said they would send the proper 5 pack. They then sent me another single keyboard. I sent it back, they refunded my money, and I bought the 5 pack elsewhere.

Hopefully that is all resolved now, but after talking to other people who have had similar issues with Amazon when buying multi-packs and only getting a single unit - be wary.

I love Amazon and buy a ton of stuff from them, and will continue to do so, but I will not be buying multi-packs from them.

You Will Never Go Back.......2007-03-19

These keyboards take a little time, not much though, to get the feel, but once you're comfortable with it, you'll never go back to the old style. Your typing speed goes up dramatically even if you're not a real great typist. After you have used this keyboard for a little while, try typing on a regular one and you'll see just how much better this one really is. Also, these keyboards are more compact and less cumbersome than others that I had looked at.

I love this keyboard! Once you get used to it you can't go back to the straight keyboard again. These are OEM versions and my boss noticed that they are several inches smaller than the retail version. I don't mind because I have hands and not paws. Very comfortable for the wrists.
