Optics and Resolution
Featuring a 2-megapixel CCD sensor, the Dimage E223 delivers image detail up to 1600 x 1200 pixels for print enlargements up to 8 x 10 inches. The 3x optical zoom lens features a nine-element, six-group lens design; the Dimage E223 also offers a 3x digital zoom. With a focal length range of 6.2mm to 18.6mm, the 3x optical zoom is equivalent to a 38-114mm lens on a 35mm camera. It can range from wide angle for landscapes to telephoto for intimate portraits.

Storage and Transfer

Movie Mode

This digital camera stinks--buy something else

1. Eats up batteries more than anything, more than any digi camera i've dealt with.
2. Delay between pictures sucks.
3. The thing doesn't even turn on anymore (new batteries too!)....
4. Pictures are good, but after taking two pictures, the battery is dead.
5. The picture screen stinks, not very sharp.

Save your money, folks.

Good Quality Camera for Starters ... .......2004-10-15

This is my first Digital camera and I had purchased it off my brother who bought it a few days ago but I've been begging for a Digital camera so he sold me this one. I enjoy the fact that it's a Camera and Camcorder but I agree with the first message it is a bit slow to save the picture and get ready for the next picture to be taken. I'm going to use this camera for the first time at my trip to Magic Mountain this Saturday so we'll see how good of pictures it takes. We're going to be there until dark so I'll be able to see how well this camera takes pictures both in the dark and daylight. I'll get back to you on the results. But overall I think this camera is good for a person who's going digital for the first time. Pretty simple to use and pretty nice style. I think it's worth your money. But shop around a little first.

Good for price; room for improvement.......2003-12-10

The Minolta E223 is my first digital camera. I like it. A few caveats:

The delay between pictures is a long time--especially if you're using flash--between 5 and 10 seconds. It's difficult to take candid photos of toddlers with this much delay.

The construction is cheaper than I'd like. The battery door is a little plastic slide held in place by a plastic nub. The shield over the USB port is a bit of rubber that you peel back. It's not water resistant.

The autofocus seems weak. Much of the time it won't focus, even though the lighting is good and the object is clearly framed within the focus bars. The autofocus on my 10-year old 35 mm camera is much better.

Until you buy additional memory cards, it will store exactly 7 pictures at 1600 X 1200 resolution (adequate for quality 4X6 prints).

The LCD screen is bright and easy-to-read. Given the way it eats batteries, I wish there was an option to dim the screen, but there's not.

It uses the standard "push the button halfway to focus, all the way to shoot" technique. But I end up shooting by mistake when I'm trying to let it focus. I can't tell if the button is too sensitive or it just shoots when the autofocus doesn't work.

I'm a software engineer, and it took me several hours to configure it for Windows 98 Second Edition. (I had to force it to install the msd_.inf drivers from the CD that ships with the camera. I had to install a "USB Mass Storage Device," not the "Dimage Camera" that came up automatically when I plugged it in.) Configuring it for Windows 2000 was a piece of cake.

It ships with batteries and a note that says "Although alkaline batteries are supplied with this product, its performance will be limited. . . ." Expect them to last for half an hour. I bought NiMH batteries and a charger, as the docs recommend, for another $30, and these work much better.

I think the microphone and speaker are unnecessary. (They are there because you can record--get this--23 seconds of low-quality, slow-framerate video under bright conditions. What's the point?)

The optical viewport also seems unnecessary. It's just a pane of glass in the camera body--nothing else. It doesn't even have lines to indicate the edges of the image or the area that the autofocus triggers. You have to use the LCD anyway to see whether or not the autofocus is picking up your image.

All that said, it's an inexpensive digital camera that takes quality photos. It has a great feature that increases the brightness by holding the shutter open longer. I'm happy with it.

Great for the money.......2003-11-13

I wanted a basic starter digital camera and I also own a minolta 35mm, so I knew that it would probably be a good buy. It had all the features I needed. It takes good pictures, but of course not as good as my 35mm minolta. The only negative things about it is the startup speed and battery life, which was solved by getting NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Needless to say, one short trip (in a
very light carrying case) from waist high
to the kitchen floor, did this camera in
for life. If you buy it, handle it carefully.
Because it is soooo light, it's easy to fumble it.

Amazingly fast and Excellent Quality.......2006-05-24

This scanner is amazing. We have it configured to scan 200 dpi color and it just flies through stacks of paper that are all sizes and thicknesses. As long as the 1/4th and 1/8th sheet papers are aligned at the center they never get missed.
The ultrasonic double-feed connection is working extremely well too. We've tried all kinds of things to fake it out but it has always successfully detected double feeds.
Clearing jams and double feeds are a piece of cake.

We've ran about 25,000 documents through this scanner so far and it has exceeded my expectations.

BTW we are using this in conjunction with Visionshape's Autoscan software for barcode recognition of all our documents. Also a very good product.

I bought one of this cameras about a year ago and only give me 6 months of service then nothing.

Generally a pretty decent phone........2000-02-05

All considered this seems to be a pretty decent phone. It is very clear and picks up very little interference. I only use it in the house so I can't speak for it's range,however it works fine in the house. Since it is smaller than our old phone(as are most newer phones) I find it a little uncomfortable to hold onto for longer conversations and the earpiece does not conform real well to my ear (too small). It has a volume control and when you place a call you usually have to turn the volume up because the initial volume does not seem to be very loud. This is a minor inconvenience but it can get annoying. If I were to grade this phone I would probably give it an A for performance and a C for comfort and convenience. I hope this helps you.

A GREAT VCR !!.......2006-10-17

I purchased this unit 3 1/2 years ago (tempus fugit) for $118 from BrandsMart and it has performed flawlessly until recently. I recorded 7 1/2 hours of TV EVERYDAY (except Sunday) during that time (for selected playback).

I have never had a problem with the DVD section. I love the Zoom feature, the slow/fast-motion (several speeds) and the step-frame feature. It also plays music CDs and MP3 (though I never tried the MP3).

The VCR section has a very fast FF/RW and two-speeds FF/RW while scanning. It also has 6 heads. I never used it but you can do a fast copy fron DVD to VCR. While the VCR was recording a TV show I could be watching another channel or playing a DVD. The scheduling function was fairly easy - the menus were all on the TV - though I believe the screen on the unit itself can also be used.

The VCR section of the Daewoo started giving problems about 4 months ago (it still plays commercial VHS tapes flawlessly) in that there is distortion when playing back its own recorded tape - began 4 months ago in the first 30 minutes of the tape (even new) and is now up to about the first 3 hours (SLP mode) of the tape.

Before this unit I owned two Mitsubishi units (VCR only) that I paid almost $200 each for and they each lasted less than a year. SO IN COMPARISON I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE DAEWOO.

I came here looking to purchase another Daewoo DV6T811N but unfortunately it's out-of-stock. But I am sure to find it SOMEWHERE, Mr&Mrs Amazon - hopefully at no more than the same great price I paid originally (I have already seen one site selling it for almost $250 - BOOOO!).

A Misleading Product!!!!!!!.......2003-05-16

Only after I received this DVD/VCR player (my husband's birthday present!!) did I discover that it does NOT, as stated, play PAL video tapes. That's the only reason I bought this model. The product descriptions are misleading, to say the least.

Evidently, those PAL video tapes--even when using a system such as this--don't work on standard U.S. television sets without an expensive converter. What is the use of a product like this, then? If I'd known that beforehand, I certainly wouldn't have bought this when there are better, and cheaper, options available.

excellent value for the money.......2003-04-29

I've had an apex1500 (love it), and various VHS machines.
I wanted a machine that would play VHS, VCD, SVCD, DVD-R, and mp3s. This machine does all reasonably well. The picture quality
is good, not as great as sony or apex, but close. There are
occasional black square flashs on some disks, but nothing
annoying. I'd rate this a full 5, but the mp3 playback only
shows short (useless) filenames on the screen, which means
you have to label your disks, and remember whats on them
rather than read the screen. There is a macrovision and region
free option at vcdhelp.com.

You can't touch any dual deck that does all these formats
for less than $400. So this is a great value.

DVD defective...........2003-04-24

I purchased this combo unit based on reviews I read. My experience in the 3 weeks I've had it is poor. Both the vcr and dvd are loud and the dvd part is defective...After only 3 weeks there are lines across the picture...It is going back! Unfortunately!
