About 18 months ago, purchased the Z40 for my teenage daughter.
It's a great little camera with a long battery life. Last month the lens jammed in the open position. Called Casio and would cost $200 to repair. Did a little research and found Casio has a problem with lenses jamming. Turns out the camera will accidently turn on in your pocket or purse and the lens cannot fully extend. These cheap plastic rings break and the camera is useless. I have just begun to fight and have even found a lawyer who is gathering info for a possible class action suit.
If you are going to buy this camera, get the optional insurance. You will get the camera repaired for free but it could takes months. Good luck!

Zoom Broke 3x.......2006-05-05

The pictures were very high quality, when the camera was working. My only complaint there was that even zoomed in, the objects of most pictures at a distance looked ant like. The camera's zoom mechanism broke 3x. The first time I had fixed at my cost. I was not sure that I had not caused the damage. One day after getting it back, the problem resurfaced and the repair people fixed it again. This was the second long repair time. About 2 months later I was at a music festival, went to turn it on and guess what? Yep, the zoom mechanism was broken again. I am not going to bother fixing it. After I get the pictures off it (the only way now is directly from the SD card), this camera is going to that great camera in the sky.

A great camera for everyday use!.......2006-04-15

I was a bit skeptical of the Casio brand but I liked all the features of this camera and read a positive up review in a photography magazine so I took the leap. I haven't regreted it a bit. This is a great "casual" camera with easy settings for picking just the shot you need.

Mine has taken a lot of abuse and has never failed to perform. I highly recommend the leather belt pouch for protection during carry. The only problem I have is deciding whether to upgrade to the 6 or 7 megapixel Exilim!

POOR PICTURE QUALITY!.......2006-02-05

I've been an avid digital camera buyer/user for years....When I bought the EX-Z40, it was with extreme excitement. I've been using this Casio EX-Z40 digital camera for 1 1/2 years and it is a disappointment to me. >: < Don't get me wrong, I love the size and I like all the functions on this camera, but I would gladly give those things up for better pictures.

The only time a picture comes out decent, is if ithe subject is close to you (4 to 10 feet) or in its macro mode. Macro is good.
Distances and outside pics, like telephoto...just forget it. Don't even bother because you will wind up deleting the pics anyway. Keep the camera very steady..it is a must. Alot of out of focus pics. I know how to hold a camera so alot of it was not my fault. Very Grainey pics too. Even the color is off at times. I use a High End digital Nikon and I love the colors with that one. I've seen small digital cameras take good pictures, not this one.

I took several outside pictures 2 weekends ago of a beautiful creek with layered stones and water flowing over them. It was very very breath taking. I was so excited to put the pictures into my computer when I got home just to find out that they were mostly all terrible. How disappointed I was.

I've been disappointed too many times with this camera. Maybe my camera is a lemon. :(
JUST BE VERY CAREFUL ON CHOOSING YOUR NEXT DIGITAL CAMERA FOR QUALITY.
I ordered a Kodak to replace this one...the Kodak V530, which I read up on and read great things about it. It was rated high! It's on its way to me and I can't wait to take the Casio out of my purse and put it into a drawer or sell it to someone who dosn't mind the pictures coming out funny like I do.

Great camera.......2005-11-18

It is small and the pics are great too. Battery seems to last for ever....well i am not one to use this everyday, only when i am out with friends. Have to admit i love this camera...could be smaller but hey great screen and great pics.

Great little charger but high price.......2007-05-17

I purchased this charger for my Casio Ex-Z750 which by the way is one awesome little camera. The camera only came with a docking station though so when you are on the road you would have to take the docking station with you to charge the battery. Now the camera does do well with battery life but if your on a long trip or taking a lot of video which I was, this charger realy comes in handy. The size is great as its only slightly larger than the battery itself so it does not take up much space at all in your camera bag. The only reason I do not give it 5 starts is the price stinks for a charger. It should be more like $20 but after searching online Amazon did have the lowest price on this item.

This is a spare battery, but you might not need it. The original battery last a good long time, but if you are going to be away from a charger for a while, these are a good idea.

This battery is amazing, but that too is its downfall.

I was upgrading from an old camera that used a battery in under 4 hours of use so I thought I would need a spare battery for my EX-Z850. It turns out you do NOT need a spare battery for the EX-Z850.

Standard life is well into 600 photographs if not more. It currently lasts about 4 weeks for me (taking about 5 shots per day). A single battery survived well over 200 photographs at a wedding and didn't ever change the power indicator from green.

So this is a truly great battery, but thoroughly unneccessary unless you are planning 6 week safaris with no method of recharging a single battery.

Endurance plus.......2005-10-30

If you can spring for it, the brand name battery is the one to get, because then there won't be any question as to whether you can depend on it or not. Buy a generic, and who knows where it came from, or what it's really made of. This Casio NP40 is the one to get. As far as performance, this battery has endurance..........400+ shots with a full charge.

HAPPY WITH THE EXTRA POWER.......2007-05-12

I am very pleased the performance of this equivalent product. It's as good as the EOM battery that come with the camera. I am using it in my new EX-Z1050 camera. It fits in my camera prefectly. The price was unbelievable. Great to have! Did not bust the budget!

Very difficult to remove from the Casio EX-Z750.......2005-06-12

Being much less expensive than the Casio brand batteries, this is a useful backup (the Casio battery lasts so long that one should rarely need a second). However, this battery is ever so slightly too large for the EX-Z750 (I haven't handled the other models with which it is supposed to compatible), making it hard to remove without using the edge of a credit card to gain some grip on it. Even then it wasn't easy. (The Casio battery just slides right out; this one moves maybe a millimeter out of its housing). I returned my EX-Z750 due to defects (see my review on the product page if you are considering this camera), so I cannot comment on the longevity of this battery. A brief outing with it (one that did not remotely tax its capabilities) revealed no problems.

I purchased the case after scratching the case of my new EX-1000 the first day with key and change in my pocket. When I got it I was not certain it would hold the camera secure as the small clasp is magnetic. This turned out to be no problem and the belt loop holds the case and camera where it is easy to grab in an instant. Great product and worth the investment.

Exilim Case Overpriced.......2007-07-14

This case is nice. It is leather and black. However it is very simple, and should not cost 25 bucks. But whatever, I guess it is better to protect your 2-300 dollar camera than be cheap about buying an overpriced case. At least the case is not as bulky as most camera cases.

The camera may slip out and drop on the ground.......2007-06-27

The bag looks and feels nice but that is all the good I can say about it. I used it during a hike, and twice the camera fell out and dropped on the ground, because the lock easily opens. And when the lock is open the camera falls out as soon as you bow down. Very poor design, only good for show but not under normal use.

Perfect fit for a Exlim Z-600.......2007-06-08

It fits perfect on my Black Exlim Z-600. It looks really nice and it is good quality leather. Maybe it is not very practical to carry extra SD cards or batteries, but if you just want to carry your camera, with a nice look and not having a bulky package to carry around, this one is your choice!

Overall, it is nice case. (1)The color is black. I personally prefer the greyish look in the picture. (2)Feels great. Really nice leather.
