This rocks!!!!.......2007-09-22
Great little mouse. I love the way the USB stick stores in the bottom of the mouse and turns the power off. Neat. Have not had it long enough to make any battery life statements, but the mouse itself rules.

Designed for use by people on the go, the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 is compact and comfortable, with a focus on convenience and mobility. Plus, it has a sleek and stylish design that looks great on any desktop in your home or office. Customizable buttons help you get quick access to the media, programs, and files you use most often, while 4-way scrolling takes advantage of Microsoft's Tilt Wheel technology, letting you scroll four ways for greater efficiency and comfort. Meanwhile, the Instant Viewer function allows you to click the scroll wheel button to instantly display your open windows. Then you just point and click to select the window you want. Another feature, the Magnifier, lets you point and click to enlarge and edit details on your screen.
The Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000's presentation controls allow you to smoothly navigate through Microsoft Office PowerPoint and other presentations from up to 30 feet away from your PC. Using the integrated Digital Ink technology, you can give your presentations more impact by highlighting vital information on screen. You can also use the device as a media remote for multimedia presentations, or to control digital entertainment from the comfort of your living room sofa.
And don't worry, thanks to a built-in battery life indicator, you won't get caught with a dead battery--the Battery Status LED Indicator glows red when the battery is running low. An on/off switch lets you turn your three-in-one device off to extend battery life even longer.
The Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 features 2.4 GHz Bluetooth connectivity with First Connect technology that makes it easy to connect wirelessly right out of the box. This wireless mouse technology also lets you work without worrying about tangled wires. Meanwhile, high definition laser technology offers more precision, more response, and smoother tracking during use.

Customer Reviews:
Worked for a couple of months and now drops the connection.......2007-09-25
This mouse worked well for about a month. Then the magnify button stuck, so I had to disable it. Now the mouse randomly drops the connection. I have to reconnect several times a day, especially when the computer goes into standby or hibernate. Also, the batteries only last for about a week.
On the plus side, the mouse is very comfortable. Also, the laser is fun to tease my dog with. Probably works well with cats too.
Nice!.......2007-09-12
It is a nice mouse come up by MS. However, there are a few things that i need to discuss with any prospective buyer. I think it is a bit over priced for the features it offers. i mean, had it been priced around $40 / $50, then it would have really been value for money. Secondly, i think it should have had more buttons so that you could have more functions from it as offered in its list. Rest, i would say it is a good device, integrates nice with the computer and works fine with windows XP. No complaints. The presenter is great, the media remote is nice as well (synchronizes well with windows media player, but not with any other; the vol. control works anyway.)
Nice mouse for LapTops mostly.......2007-08-28
besides the true laser (not the led like all the rest of the mouse) the biggest advantage it has is: BlueTooth!
even though it's a bit tough you can configure it with the built in BT of your LapTop and not with the MS Dongle! and one the pairing is done you can enjoy it to the fullest!
doesn't eat as much batteries as i thought it would, so... hooray on that!
all and all a very nice mouse, easy to stop music while not looking at the computer!! (people start talking to you and you want to look at them and not on the PC, you can do that with this mouse! blind-folded!!!)
i love it!
A Presenter's Best Friend.......2007-08-23
As for the Presenter part, since I no longer have to stand beside the Notebook to advance the PowerPoint slides, my presentation style has become more fluid and natural.
As far as using it as a Mouse, it is small, even for my small hands. If it were a standard size, I would have given it the 5th star.
As part of the industrial-strength "retail packaging", there is a clear plastic carrying case for the Mouse and the Bluetooth Dongle to protect them when you are traveling. A nice touch.
Just not worth the money........2007-08-18
I was thrilled when I first got this mouse and then my enthusiasm waned quickly. My major complaint was how fast it goes through batteries. I have spent more in AAA batteries in the past three months than I did on the mouse. My second problem is that it seems to switch modes if left unattended for a few moments. I will get up from my computer and when I get back - even less than a minute later, it is on Presentation Mode or Magnify Mode. It also was not a smooth mouse and it was difficult to do tasks that needed to be very accurate, like photo modification or graphics.
The laser pointer was cool, though.
I just would not recommend this product unless you have very light mouse use and want it almost entirely as a secondary mouse for presentations.

Customer Reviews:
Good-Died In Four Months Though.......2007-09-22
I expect my mice to work reliably and to be comfortable (and portable when it comes to notebook mice). This one did all of that for its limited lifespan. It conformed to my hand, and the reciever tucked neatly in the slot built into the mouse. It worked flawlessly, and linked quickly to other computers I linked it to as well. However, after about four months of use, it decided to work sporatically, then not even connect to the reciever. I think this had to do with the reciever, not the mouse itself. Otherwise, not much to say about it. Buy it if you just want it for a short term thing, otherwise there are better options.
PS: Battery life was great-I never had to replace the battery once during the 4 months.
Mousey Mouse Rocks the House.......2007-09-17
This mouse is awesome! The battery life is great and it plugged right in and worked the first time! Mousey mouse rocks the house!
Amazing battery life.......2007-08-29
I have both versions of this Microsoft wireless mouse - Winter Blue and Slate. Just in case you're wondering: they are identical except for the colors, so you might as well choose which ever one is on sale. Of course if you need two wireless mouses, then it is best to pick one of each color. This way you can ensure that when you operate both mouses in close proximity, their wireless transmitters will not interfer with each others.
What I found surprising is that this wireless mouse consumes very little power when it is in low-power standby mode. When you move the mouse around, the LED light brightens up, and current cunsumption jumps to about 25mA briefly. But once you stop moving the mouse, the current soon drops to only 0.4-0.5mA. Therefore you can expect a single AA alkaline cell (typically rated at 2800mAh under light load) to last for about six months, even if your never turn the mouse off. This kind of battery life is simply amazing.
If you want to use rechargeable battery in this mouse, make sure you choose the latest generation of "ready-to-use" low self-discharge cells (such as Sanyo Eneloop or Rayovac Hybrid). Don't even bother with older generation 2500mAh NiMH cells from Energizer or any other brands, because those cells will completely self-discharge within a few weeks.
One final remark: This mouse can be used under Windows XP without any software drivers. However, it is best to install the IntelliPoint 5.0 (or later) mouse driver from Microsoft. It gives additional customization features, plus a battery status monitor from your PC.
Very nice mouse..........2007-08-26
Good: smaller size, good fit. Pretty color -- goes with my VAIO silver and purple. Not so good: wheel action is clunky compared to my Logitech mouse wheel; packaging is the absolute worst to get into. Couldn't cut with scissors, finally made slit in bottom but couldn't pull open, so passed to husband who ripped it open -- the receiver part flew out of the package, hit the wall and landed under the stove with the greasy dustbunnies! hope it's okay -- seems to be...oh, movement up and down page jumps occasionally (not problem w/Logitech). I purchased for my laptop but am giving it a trial run at my desktop -- it won't replace the Logitech tho, am pretty sure.
great product.......2007-08-25
i love this product. although my laptop has it's mouse i really prefer this wireless one when i'm at home. you gave me such a great deal too. how could i pass it up.
Product Description
It's wired, stylish, compact, ambidextrous and it's finally here. This mouse is made for mobility and offers a cool alternative to notebook touch pads with an athletic-inspired design and blue LED. This High Definition mouse even sports a new compact Tilt Wheel and Magnifier tool for easier navigation of spreadsheets, documents and images. It's a mouse that looks as good in your gym bag as in your laptop bag.
Customer Reviews:
great mouse.......2007-07-17
I initially got a bluetooth mouse and hated the poor connectivity. This moues, however, works great. It moves precisely and the cord is just the right length so it's not restrictive and it doesn't get in the way. The included drivers allow you to program specific buttons for tasks if you wish to do so.
Overall, the design is great. The blue light is a nice looking addition. It's on the small side (which hasn't been a problem for me--easier to store) has a side button, and a vertical/horizontal scroll wheel. The middle click is a bit stiff at first, but it loosens up eventually.
Excellent ergonomics.......2007-05-31
The mouse is very comfortable to my size of hand. It is smooth in its working and satisfies the requirements to the fullest and pleasure to use.
Excellent mouse.......2007-05-19
Pros:
* Not too big, not too small. I have small hands, and this fits just right, but it's not a mini-mouse.
* Great zoom. Easy to use.
Cons:
* Not wireless. Personally I prefer the cord over a mouse where you have to snap the USB thingie into it to turn it off. If they made a cordless mouse just like this with an on/off switch, I'd be first in line.
* If you use with Vista the screen flickers some. I use it with Vista anyway because I love the mouse. (Although it's pretty annoying that Microsoft didn't bother to make their OS backwards compatible with their own equipment.)
great mouse - cheap plastic.......2007-05-14
The mouse is great, and probably one of the best small mice currently on the marked. I've had one for one year and it has always worked well. HOWEVER, the side plastic, where you put your thumb, is now quite discolored. From the orginal blue color, it turned yellowish/greenish. You wouldn't expect this from Microsoft.
notebook mouse 3000.......2007-04-18
i love everything about this mouse from looks to form to function and the cool blue light

Great mouse for a great price.......2007-09-08
I bought this mouse to use with my laptop and I am very pleased with it. It feels great and the scroll wheel really works smoothly. I bought this from Amazon instead of at a major electronics store where the price was way too high! I like the new left side button that you can program with a variety of options. I'm not used to that but I really like the idea.
So if you want a portable mouse for a good price, you'll be pleased with this.
Great little mouse.......2007-09-01
I have had this mouse for over a year, and have had no problems with it. The battery life is great, the tracking is great and the range is very good. I actually use it with my desktop, and it is extremely comfortable to use.
Perfect fit for iMac.......2007-08-25
Odd as it seems, the might mouse for Mac was not that mighty, it broke after a drop. This mouse by MS is much more sturdy. Love the feel over the Mac bluetooth mouse and it responses so much better. It also fits my family's hands perfectly. With a 2 yr old, you need reliable items!
awesome compact mouse.......2007-08-07
i was very weary of wireless products mainly cause of their inconsistency but this one is wonderful.
i love everything about it. tracks very well.
highly recommended. wish they had a bluetooth version
Outstanding Mouse- Note the Update here.......2007-07-26
UPDATE: My original review, below, was written before I installed the software that comes included with this mouse. Using Windows Vista the software causes the mouse to be almost unacceptable. Mouse works fine with Vista without the software. My recommendation is not to install the software, or if you already have and are having problems, to use the Windows "uninstall" feature to remove it. Great mouse without the software, terrible mouse with the software.
----------------
I fell in love with this little mouse as soon as I received it and plugged it into my laptop this morning.
The size, at about 2/3rds of the full size Microsoft mouse is good for a portable machine, but yet fits my hand well. It looks nice. It is black and silver gray with a touch of chrome.
Unlike a previous reviewer I have had no problem with the range - In fact I just tested it from 15 feet away from the computer and it worked just fine. The same with using it on various types of surfaces. Haven't found anything yet that bothers it.
As others have mentioned the center wheel scrolls smoothly, not with the clicks or indents commonly found in many mouses. I prefer the smooth scrolling. You may or may not, as it is a matter of personal preference.
I particularly like the fact that the receiving USB dongle fits into the bottom of the mouse and turns off the battery when not in use.
A note to Linux users. I am using this with Ubuntu Edgy. It was recognized as soon as I plugged it in. No hassle at all.
In summery, after trying many mouses, both wired and wireless, I have finally found "the winner". Finding the right mouse is a subjective experience as we all have our own particular preferences, but for me the Microsoft Optical Mouse 4000 is a keeper.

Customer Reviews:
Perfect for small hands and laptops!.......2007-03-16
I enjoy this mouse. Usually, I don't like using the touch pad on laptops but after deciding to buy a mouse, I had to look for a specific mouse that would fit into my lifestyle as a student. I have small hands and I hate carrying out heavy objects in my bookbag. Since I have to lug my laptop around, I needed a mouse that didn't take a lot of space, is good enough to withstand constant shifting in my laptop, and that worked well with my needs.
Pros: Small size, optical, scrolling tab, and portability
Cons: Sometimes the mouse jumps around a bit on its own. BUT this happens only a few times every few weeks - so it's not often enough to cause a problem for me.
Enjoy!
Great Mouse.......2007-02-21
I've had this mouse for about 3 years now. It recently started fraying where the cord attaches to the USB connector. Other than that, I've really loved it! The size made it easy to pack and fit my hands perfectly. No problems connecting to my Mac laptop either. :-)
Liked them until they died.......2007-01-09
I bought two of these mice a few years back. I've liked them but wish they were made more durable. Some people have complained about the length of the cord, my USB connector is on the left side of my laptop and I use the mouse on the right without problems.
One of the two developed the problem another reviewer commented on. The scroll wheel when scrolling up would mechanically 'lock' and this resulted in the scroll wheel being clicked. Scrolling down always works but this got frustrating. I wound up marking the bottom of this one with a black X so I could tell them apart.
The 'good' one was then used much more than the other. Unfortunately, there is no stress relief where the cord leaves the USB connector and with time this mouse has developed a short. Worse, the short is across the 5 volt USB power wires. Worse still, shorting the USB power on my Thinkpad causes it to power down instantly. This took me a long time to figure out as it only happened occasionally until today. Now I can just bend the cable a bit at the USB connector and my laptop dies.... this mouse is heading for the trash.
Rating it 3 stars as they worked well up until now. Perhaps I'm generous.
A durable mouse.......2006-12-26
This product has served the test of time for about 18 mos now.It is small compared to some (mice), but is very quick and easy to use, even for someone with large mits..The cord is about 3 feet(no more) and if the usb is on the side(even not on the side)it is more than enough length for just about any position you work or surf in.The product plugs in and is ready(no downloads)for use.No frills,a good basic reliable product.
Annoying scroll.......2006-12-11
In less than 1 year the scroll wheel starting sticking which means that when you want to use it for scrolling the computer recognizes it as if you are pushing down the scroll wheel. The length of the wire is about 3-4 inches shorter than it should be.

Customer Reviews:
So great, I'm buying it again!.......2007-07-02
I love this mouse; I'll state out-right that I'm biased. I've had it for about a year now, with semi-constant use. I never have problems with the signal, or the smoothness. This is a great mouse. It's compact, the easy snap thing is very lovely, and the battery life is great.
The only reason I'm rebuying it is due to a little accident my laptop had with gravity. Broke the USB plug, and I cried. Yes, I did, tears and all. Anyhow. I went to Best Buy to get a new one, and AHHH! I can't stand it. It moves so clunky and it just... isn't my little 4000.
Anyhow. I love this mouse.
<3 Easy, lovely, and smooth.
worst mouse ever.......2007-03-22
I've had several wireless mice in the past, and this one by far is worst of the lot. My greatest issue is with the left mouse working intermittently. It literally took me several clicks on the same button or link to do anything. Basically you have no idea if your left click is going to work or does nothing, so you end up clicking several times to see something happen. Would not recommend this to anyone despite the low price.
dont buy this mouse.......2007-03-03
First of all, it is a lot smaller than a normal mouse as it is advertised. Also, the software for the magnifier will not install on Windows Vista (I find this ironic because it is a Windows mouse). Occasionally, it will stop working all together and you have to remove the usb and a few times. I would say spend the extra money to get a good optical, wireless mouse.
Software incompatible with some video drivers.......2007-01-10
Once I got everything set up properly, the mouse has worked been great. I downrated it, because I had problems with incompatibilities between versions 6.01 (came with the mouse) and 6.1 of the Microsoft Intellimouse software and the driver for my video card, an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. This causes flickering in the active window (not the whole screen). According to results of web searches I did, there are other video drivers that conflict with versions 5.5 and up, but some do not. I have borrowed machines with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 and GeForce FX Go5200 - they work fine with versions 6.01 and 6.1. If I turn off the Intellimouse software on my system or use version 5.0, there is no flicker, but the horizontal scroll and magnify do not work. Finally, I tried version 5.3 that I borrowed from a friend and it makes the mouse work as promised and does not cause the flicker. Unfortunately, I don't know how others can get this version, since the Microsoft site has version 6.1. I have notified both Dell and Microsoft of this problem.
Best mouse I've ever had.......2006-10-18
I originally purchased the 3000 model and it became my favorite mouse ever. Everything was perfect: the size, weight, balance, click action, instantly worked on any computer I plugged it into, very responsive and accurate, and I never did run down the original battery despite 16 hours/day of use for 2 1/2 months.
Eventually my girlfriend borrowed it, fell in love with it, and swiped it, so I bought this new 4000 model to replace it, and it is even better.
It has the same excellence in design, feel, and use as the 3000. The major improvement is the changed middle scroll button which now scrolls faster if turned faster and is instantly responsive. The required force to spin it is just right, in my opinion.
Also it adds horizontal scrolling ability and a very cool side button that by default turns on and off a special magnification window which is intuitively resized and adjusted. It is really slick.
The IntelliPoint software lets you customize the action of all the buttons, and you will probably want to change the default setting for the middle mouse button, which by default is to swith to the next open application rather than function as a normal middle mouse click. If you use a tabbed browser you'll notice this really quick! It is easily changed though. And you can use the side button for the magnification thing or any of about 25 other useful things.
Microsoft makes fantastic hardware, and this is a premium example. If this is not the best mouse on the market, it is at least the best notebook mouse.
