Good-Died In Four Months Though.......2007-09-22
I expect my mice to work reliably and to be comfortable (and portable when it comes to notebook mice). This one did all of that for its limited lifespan. It conformed to my hand, and the reciever tucked neatly in the slot built into the mouse. It worked flawlessly, and linked quickly to other computers I linked it to as well. However, after about four months of use, it decided to work sporatically, then not even connect to the reciever. I think this had to do with the reciever, not the mouse itself. Otherwise, not much to say about it. Buy it if you just want it for a short term thing, otherwise there are better options.
PS: Battery life was great-I never had to replace the battery once during the 4 months.
Mousey Mouse Rocks the House.......2007-09-17
This mouse is awesome! The battery life is great and it plugged right in and worked the first time! Mousey mouse rocks the house!
Amazing battery life.......2007-08-29
I have both versions of this Microsoft wireless mouse - Winter Blue and Slate. Just in case you're wondering: they are identical except for the colors, so you might as well choose which ever one is on sale. Of course if you need two wireless mouses, then it is best to pick one of each color. This way you can ensure that when you operate both mouses in close proximity, their wireless transmitters will not interfer with each others.
What I found surprising is that this wireless mouse consumes very little power when it is in low-power standby mode. When you move the mouse around, the LED light brightens up, and current cunsumption jumps to about 25mA briefly. But once you stop moving the mouse, the current soon drops to only 0.4-0.5mA. Therefore you can expect a single AA alkaline cell (typically rated at 2800mAh under light load) to last for about six months, even if your never turn the mouse off. This kind of battery life is simply amazing.
If you want to use rechargeable battery in this mouse, make sure you choose the latest generation of "ready-to-use" low self-discharge cells (such as Sanyo Eneloop or Rayovac Hybrid). Don't even bother with older generation 2500mAh NiMH cells from Energizer or any other brands, because those cells will completely self-discharge within a few weeks.
One final remark: This mouse can be used under Windows XP without any software drivers. However, it is best to install the IntelliPoint 5.0 (or later) mouse driver from Microsoft. It gives additional customization features, plus a battery status monitor from your PC.
Very nice mouse..........2007-08-26
Good: smaller size, good fit. Pretty color -- goes with my VAIO silver and purple. Not so good: wheel action is clunky compared to my Logitech mouse wheel; packaging is the absolute worst to get into. Couldn't cut with scissors, finally made slit in bottom but couldn't pull open, so passed to husband who ripped it open -- the receiver part flew out of the package, hit the wall and landed under the stove with the greasy dustbunnies! hope it's okay -- seems to be...oh, movement up and down page jumps occasionally (not problem w/Logitech). I purchased for my laptop but am giving it a trial run at my desktop -- it won't replace the Logitech tho, am pretty sure.
great product.......2007-08-25
i love this product. although my laptop has it's mouse i really prefer this wireless one when i'm at home. you gave me such a great deal too. how could i pass it up.

VERY PLEASED.......2007-09-13
I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCT I BOUGHT AND THE QUICKNESS THAT AMAZON GOT IT SHIPPED OUT. WOULD I USE AMAZON AGAIN? YES, THEY PROVIDE A GOOD SERVICE. BREEZY
Great mouse.......2007-09-10
I have been using the Microsoft wireless mouse for a few months and it is simply the best mouse I have ever used. It is very smooth and precise for my use (I don't play any games). I like it so much that I purchased the Microsoft wireless notebook mouse for my Sony notebook. It is important to buy the proper mouse for a desktop or a notebook because the desktop has a fairly large receiver that plugs into the USB port, while the notebook has a small receiver that plugs into the USB port.
Good stuff.......2007-08-12
I've had mine for about 3 years now and it's finally crapping out on me. That doesn't mean I don't like this product; far from it. In fact, for 3 years I have not had a single issue with this product except for when the batteries were low and needed to be replaced (every 6 months for me.) Using it daily, I would have to say you get your money's worth with this one.
Simply works.......2007-07-26
I like this mouse because it is simple and it works. Optical and wireless - no cord and can be used on almost any surface. It's not fancy as far as number of buttons, etc - it just does what a simple mouse should do - well. Battery life is good...I change batteries maybe once or twice a year, and it tells me when they are low.
Wireless Optical Mouse.......2007-07-22
I was extremely satisfied with The MS wireless optical mouse. The fit with my hand was the best of any mouse I have ever owned and the precision of the mouse with the cursor exceeded my expectations. The only downside is that the receiver is connected to the USB port by a short cable which is one more cable that I don't need. Would be better if was a straight USB port receiver. Still= 4.5 stars.

Best Mouse I've Ever Used!.......2007-09-17
Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000- Dusk Blue
I know that Microsoft makes (or made) some other hardware, but I cannot remember what - just that it all had bad reputations. Except for their mice!
This mouse series, curiously all labeled
"Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0" on the bottom of the mouse for probably the past ten years, despite the upgraded features in each revision, is and has been IMHO the best full size mouse on the market. Nothing else comes close. And I have tried all the major competitors.
This mouse feels best in my hand, has long top buttons which allow my fingers to lay IN them, not peck AT them. Has two rubberized right sided thumb buttons which can be programmed to do what ever you want them to, but by default the smaller of two triggers a mobile retangular magnified screen area which has been enormously helpful deciphering hard to read text or distant areas of a photograph. New in this series I think (5000 & 6000). The manual probably specs the magnification and I probably should have looked it up for this review, but suffice it say it's a big and impressively clear image. One click on, one click off.
The movement is very smooth as you would expect from an optical mouse. I compared it to Microsoft's laser mouse, expecting the laser mouse to be more precise, what with more pixels per inch etc. but it seemed jumpy, perhaps in an attempt to be too precise. But wasn't that the point? It never could not get settled down into a smooth glide and after 5 minutes it was giving me a headache and I put it away. The optical mouse on the same surface just glided smoothly across the screen.
We'll have to see about battery life on this model. It is replacing a 6 year old of the same series (identical configuration, just different color and some new and improved functions) but I do not remember what the model name was then. It started out getting 5-6 months out of a set of AAs, just as advertised. It started burning through batteries and freezing up rather suddenly over about a 4 week period. The contacts were clean (I clean all battery contacts every 3 months) so maybe it had just reached the end of its natural life. But so far, in the 2 months or so that I've had it, the 5000 has only reduced the batteries from 1.58v to 1.47v. I don't see an early failure very likely.
I can see other's complaints about the scroll wheel. I think it boils down to personal preference. I always disliked the fact that the detent wheels dictated how far you went, forward or back, even by milimeters. If you wanted to stop HERE, the detent would take you to HERE plus a little bit. This wheel is completely operator controlled. It stops exactly where you want it to. Personally I think it gives it more precision, particularly if you are working on CAD. But for those with a tremor, or stiff finger joints, a completely free wheel might not be the best choice.
I think I paid Amazon about $27 for it and because it was over $25 it was shipped at no extra cost - pretty cheap for such a good mouse. (Compare that to an expensive uncomfortable Logitech. Now there's nothing wrong with a Logitech - but for my money, Microsoft WOM5000 is where it's at) At checkout, if SuperSaver (Free) Shipping is selected, there is always a warning about delayed delivery of up to 20 some days. I have never waited more than 4 days for anything from Amazon, and didn't with this either. I stay away from the independent dealers that operate through Amazon (the New and Used). Their prices are usually higher, there is always shipping to deal with, and some of them are eBay stores. No thanks, I'll wait for Amazon to get it back in stock.
Needs Improvement.......2007-09-11
I am comparing the Microsoft Optical Mouse 5000 to my old IntelliMouse Explorer which was very comfortable and easy for me to use. The new 5000, as others have mentioned, does not have any detents on the wheel and even at the slowest speed selection, it is still too quick. This mouse does not fit my hand and is uncomfortable to use. Some have said it is too large. I disagree and think it is too small, at least for my hand. For a comfort rating I would give it a 2 and my old mouse a 5. From an ergonomic standpoint, Microsoft really needs to make different sizes to fit people correctly and stop trying to make "One size fits all".
Like it so much, I own two of them!.......2007-09-10
What a great mouse! I have the silver and black version at home - have been using it for over a year now every single day and I'm pretty sure I'm only on my second set of batteries (and it give you a warning when it's running low, so you have some time to replace them before losing power totally)... the buttons on the side are great - I use them for going back and forth between webpages mainly, but you can set them for various things, which is nice. I have fairly big hands and this mouse feels great! With my split ergonimic keyboard and this mouse... it's like driving a Cadalic (sp?) instead of a tiny compact car... very nice on your wrist and hands. I would suggest a good mouse pad with a fat gel wrist pad to go along with this (I use the Belkin WaveRest Gel Mouse Pad). I like my keyboard, this mouse, and the above mentioned mouse pad so much that I bought doubles to take to work and use (and have received more than one envious comment). The mouse I bought for work is the dusk blue one listed here, which looks nothing like the picture. It's a dark blue color, which is pretty cool :) As another reviewer mentioned, you probably don't want to buy this mouse if you're left handed! Works great for rightys!
This really helps someone with Macular Degeneration.......2007-09-06
I bought this as a gift for someone with macular degeneration. It is such a godsend for him. It works very well and was easy for him to figure out how to use it. Good value for the price too.
Ergonomics at its best.......2007-09-03
My 3rd of this model. Use 2 at office and 1 at home. The only downside is that after around 2 years its scrolling wheel turns out to become hard and innacurate. Apart from that, only good experiences are left.

Microsoft IntelliEye Optical Mouse for Windows PC and Macintosh Computer - The already popular IntelliEye mouse seems to have added a whimsical sense of flair and a touch of humor. Amazon.com Review
The Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue is a well-designed, stylish, and efficient mouse that makes a worthy addition to any desktop. This mouse is shaped for ambidextrous use, fitting comfortably in either hand. It features two buttons and a central scroll wheel, and its silver and blue two-tone finish is complemented by the signature red glow characteristic of the Microsoft optical family.
The mouse connects via USB, though a PS/2 converter is also supplied. The package comes with IntelliPoint 4.1 software, which is straightforward to install. It works with Windows 98 and all later versions of Windows, and is also compatible with Mac OS 8.6, 9x, and 10.1. Unlike traditional mice, the Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue doesn't contain a ball, but instead uses a high-intensity LED and optical sensor to detect movement. This negates the need for regular cleaning, as with a mouse ball, and also provides greater precision.
During testing, the Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue performed well. It's comfortable to use, and precise. The buttons and wheel are responsive and accurate. Combine this with its durable construction, and you have a mouse that is well worth the investment. --Jason Weston, Amazon.co.uk

optical mouse.......2007-09-16
This mouse works well with my notebook computer - simple to install using enclosed DVD. It fits neatly into my briefcase.
Good mouse. .......2007-09-13
I like this mouse because it is affordable and works well on both mac and pc.
Works great replaced a work horse.......2007-09-05
This mouse replaced a mouse I have been using for 5 years. It works great and I can't complain about anything. My wife would tell you "that's hard to believe".
Broke..........2007-09-04
I got this item for my husband for Christmas, 2006. By March the scroll wheel had broken (does not work in any computers), and by May the entire mouse died. Not recommended.
Very nice.......2007-08-16
Mine has taken a lot of abuse, after being dropped on concrete several times and banged into tables more times than I can count the mouse wheel started acting up a little, every now and then it will scroll down one notch, it's not really a problem even in most games, and I am amazed that it still works. Aside from being quite durable, it's a simple, comfortable, affordable mouse that works very well.

Customer Reviews:
Better than expected.......2007-08-06
I've used this as my primary mouse at work and at home for years, ever since it came out -- ~60-80 hours a week. I've also got repetitive strain injury (RSI) in my fingers, predating my acquiring this mouse.
I tried well over a dozen different mice and trackballs and found this one the best ergonomic, low-strain solution. Key is that the buttons are the entire sides of the mouse, not just the tip. This means you can press using your entire finger and not just the tip, reducing the amount of pressure on your fingertips. The mouse is also bigger than most, helping to keep your hand closer to its natural rest position and away from an arched position that leads to the dreaded carpal tunnel syndrome.
Another plus -- I'm a lefty, and the mouse is definitely ambidextrous.
My biggest complaints: the laser does not function well on very dark (e.g. a black mouse pad) or very bright surfaces (e.g. a white sheet of paper). Frustrating, to say the least. On the wrong surfaces, like a mouse pad with an image, you can hit a dark spot and suddenly your mouse pointer will not register movement, or it will jerk randomly across the screen. This problem is extremely common with optical mice, but is most obvious on this one in particular. Also, the cord is frustrating and gets in the way -- like all mice with tails -- but noticeably, both are starting to wear away where the cord connects to the mouse, exposing wire. It still works, but it's not pretty.
A final note -- more than adequate for even twitch gaming. I've been able to pull off 54-4 on dust_2 in Counter-Strike:Source with this mouse, and so I don't think one of those $80 gaming mice are really necessary. The blue also matches perfectly with the blue glow of my Eclipse keyboard and Dell XPS.
this sucks!.......2006-01-10
I have the coolermaster wave computer case, so this blue light in a mouse seemed like a great compliment to the case lighting.
BUT- I can't stand how the mouse jumps all over the page, i have found, though, that if I give it a sudden twist of the wrist, it will spring back into a usable state.
worst mouse i've used.......2005-10-02
i've owned about 6 different mice up to now and this one is definitely the worst one.
its appearance is OK but it really isn't a pleasure to use it. i really would like to return it had i not thrown away all the packages coming with it.
as another reviewer said the biggest problem is that the mouse cursor once in a while will jump every where on your screen. for typical usage like editing a file, internet surfing, this isn't a big deal. but it really hurts your game playing. this didn't happen when i just started to use it but it got worse very soon and right now the cursor would behave crazily about every 2 minutes. so don't buy this one.
Microsoft rules, designers drool........2005-09-25
Okay before I get on to the (abundant) bad parts, I will say that this mouse looks really kewl, but that was the only thing that made me buy it. The cheap parts are:
(1) The right/left click buttons cover the whole length of the mouse, so if youre used to REGULAR mice and your hand weighs more than 1 ounce, it will be a while untill you can get used to not clicking things you didnt meen to.
(2) The probably WORST thing about this mouse is the functionality. Whoever programed the OPTICAL MOUSE part is a complete retard. The cursor on screen will comply with what you want to do until it gets bored and moves really fast to a random corner of the screen. I tried to play Halo online and just as I was about to get a kill, my screen started spinning really fast, and by the time I had gained control over my computer, I was dead. Thanks for some quality programming, Stark.
(3) After about three months of frustration in USING MY COMPUTER, this mouse just finally gave up the will to live, shut down, and refused to work. Not even the kewl blue light in the center would turn on when I plugged it in.
So overall, if you NEED an opticall mouse that is cheap, looks kewl, but youll never use it in your life, then this is something to get.
Nice Mouse, but Overrated Design and Horrendous Packaging.......2005-08-31
It's OK, I guess. Pretty color of blue, works OK, but the form factor is not that ergonomic, and the packaging is ridiculously wasteful. If you really must have a "designer" mouse, then go for it, but if you give a damn about landfill space and the waste of plastic, paper, and cardboard resources--and most intelligent beings actually do (or should)--then pass this one by. If I had known about the packaging waste alone, I would have.
Average customer rating:
- Worse investment in my life.
- Not recommend this mouse
- I use this mouse
- Could be better.

Turn your desktop into a vibrant, clutter-free space with Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse Blue. Wireless technology, a wider, clear scroll wheel, and signature red optical glow combine in a fun design.
Amazon.com Review
Microsoft's Wireless Optical Mouse Blue features the best of all worlds--no cord, no ball, and comfort that is almost legendary with Microsoft mice.
Two recently introduced mouse technologies come together in this mouse. As the name suggests, it uses a low-power wireless link to transmit its movements to Windows or the Mac OS--the device is compatible with both platforms. The mouse also has no ball, instead using a high-intensity LED and optical sensor to detect movement.
While primarily a USB device, this mouse can also be used with the supplied converter with an older PS/2 mouse port. It connects into most Windows-based PCs without need for separate drivers. Plug it in, Windows sees it, and within a few seconds it's controlling the screen pointer. It is compatible with Windows 98 and later.
Two AA batteries (included) power the Wireless Optical Mouse Blue's optical sensor. The mouse effectively takes a series of pictures of whatever surface it's moved over--no mouse pad necessary--comparing each with the previous one to detect motion. The use of an optical sensor means the only moving parts on the mouse are its two buttons and its clear scroll wheel. The "blue" in the mouse's name describes the sides and back of its body and an inset around the scroll wheel. Its top surface is silver.
The mouse has a good range--we were able to get a response from the screen pointer at a distance of over 10 feet. It communicates with a small, oval receiver, also supplied, which draws its power from the USB or PS/2 socket into which it's plugged. --Simon Williams, Amazon.co.uk

Worse investment in my life........2005-02-11
I bought this mouse in a store... and when installed it initally worked fine. Then slowly it stopped working and would work if you havent touched it for an hour and then it when you started using it , it would work for 30 seconds and stop responding.
I had no choice but to attach my old corded mouse. I thought maybe it conflicted with my computer. But I get the same problem when I hook it up with my laptop and a friend's PC.
In short this product is a waste of time. Normally I do bash Microsoft software products but thanks to Microsoft hardware products, they fuel themselves for more bashing.
Not recommend this mouse.......2004-07-11
1.) run out of battery too fast
2.) only worked for 1 month.
I use this mouse.......2004-04-17
This mouse works great for me. I hated to have that wire in my way all the time. The only problem is that you have to have batteries so I use rechargeable ones.
Could be better........2004-01-09
I've had this mouse for quite awhile now, and the thing that bothers me most about it, is the fact that I need to replace the batteries about once to twice a month! Depending on how much I'm using it. And also, getting the batteries in and out is a pain..I don't know how microsoft could have missed that specific problem when they were testing it. I guess its pretty much worth its price because most wireless mice are a lot more. So for the most part i'm happy with it because I don't want to spend more than 30 dollars for a mouse.
forget it.......2003-11-15
Pointer jumps off screen constantly - major problem. If you like gaming - don't get this mouse. If you like frustration - this thing is perfect for you. Can this mouse really be called a "precision pointing device" when the pointer disppears every few minutes? I think not. I was much happier with the Microsoft corded Optical Intellimouse, which only cost me 1/2 as much as this.

Kudos for the wireless mouse.......2007-01-10
I received the colbalt blue mouse on time without any problems. Initially, I had trouble installing it, but my son figured it out and now I am truly enjoying wireless technology. The price was right too as I hope to have many years of utilizing this peice of technology.
MS Wireless Intellimouse.......2007-01-03
Having used a wide varity of mice for my computer including the wireless one I bought from Dell when I first ordered my machine, I would highly recommend the MS Wireless Intellimouse. I liked it so much that I ordered another one for my office and have recommended it to many of my co-workers.
Waste of 3 gift certificates.......2006-08-31
I was sent a very nice wireless mouse. You have to have a CD to install this on your computer. I was unfortunately sent the wrong CD. I have been all over trying to find the correct CD. I have to buy the Wireless Mouse to get the CD that comes with it. With shipping this cost me around $25. Thanks for nothing.
