I had the Monster transmitter for maybe two months before it started pausing randomly every time I went over a bump in the road... Super disappointed, especially for $79. Pass on this one.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-09-13

A little problem finding an 'empty' station in my town, and it seems as though the 'stereo' quality is lacking on more than a few songs (could be song quality, but I doubt it). But overall it's great to have access to my iPod in the car.

5 out of 5 stars Monster iCarPlay wireless.......2007-09-09

Sturdy, high-quality wireless FM transmitter + charger for my 30 GB iPod video. Easy to use, but the car charger does not fit in the front cigarette lighter of my '04 Passat. I have to use the cigarette lighter outlet in the backseat.

I had this transmitter for about a year and it worked pretty good, though the sound could be better. However, the transmitter burned out and now it no longer works. I won't buy another one, instead I will buy another brand.

No Good. Bought this one because I liked that fact that it's a charger as well, big mistake. Used for about a month before it fried the USB port on my iPod. The sound quality is also mediocre at best. Don't do it.

5 out of 5 stars Works like a champ!.......2007-09-27

The auto-search really helps out in big cities, like the Houston area where I live. On road trips I had absolutely no problems with channel bleed-over. Of course, with a saturated dial, some distortion may still creep in. However, this is the best product I have used so far to play your iPod through the stereo and charge the unit at the same time. The cable is long enough to be able to hold the iPod close to you to be able to change/locate songs, which was a major dilemma w/ my previous stationary cigarette light based unit. All in all, this is the best product on the market in my opinon, well worth the extra cost of the unit.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it.......2007-09-24

I have been using this product for a week, and it's going back. A while back I bought a car transmitter from DLO via Sam's. It was excellent but very bulky, and soon the car adapter connections broke, so I returned and exchanged it, and the same thing happened with the new one. It now sits atop my home stereo, where it works perfectly plugged into the wall. It has NEVER EVER given me static.
I am used to playing my iPod through the casette players in my cars, but they give a poor sound, and the casette adapters eventually break, plus I am planning on owning cars in the future when casette players will probably no longer be offered, so I thought I'd give the FM transmitter route another try.
I bought a Griffin, and immediately had static no matter how many frequencies I tried. Power lines, trees, bridges and parking garages made for static. Plus it was rather cheaply made, and I was sure it would get broken easily with regular use, so I returned it and exchanged it for this Monster.
The Monster was very easy to use, and automatically went to 107.9 every time it autoscanned. The problem was that every so often it suddenly STOPPED WORKING and I had LOUD STATIC BLARING when nice music had been playing. I manually programmed the transmitter, and things got better, but then the problem came back. After a few days of trying out different things, I finally figured out what was turning off the transmitter: TRAFFIC SIGNALS!!! I was driving to work this morning and twice while I was waiting at a stoplight the transmitter failed and the static blared when the light turned green. Then when I was stopped another time, my transmitter failed and I was getting an R-rated F-word frenzy from Howard Stern and his guests, apparently from a closeby vehicle.
Another design flaw is that the bulky adapter which attaches to the iPod gets unseated easily when I tried to attach it through the protective case, although no other adapters had this problem, because they weren't as bulky at the insertion site. This would cause easy disconnection with handling or even road vibration, and add to the BLARING STATIC episodes I frequently encountered.

That's it, this thing's going back, and I'm going back to the casette player, or I'll try to hack into the car stereo's AUX input. I figure the next round of cars will have inputs for iPods built into them anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Best Option for Volvo XC90.......2007-09-15

Since the Volvo XC90 has a fiber optic antenae, the only option for connecting an iPod to the vehicle is something that will transmit to the FM Radio. After searching everywhere online and consulting with the Volvo Service department, the only option made by Volvo is the FM Transmitter cradle they make which is permanently mounted to the dash. I didn't like this option and didn't like the $287 price plus installation. I decided to give this a try and have been extremely pleased. Easy to use and easy to hide!

2 out of 5 stars Random cutoff's blast you with static!!.......2007-09-10

While listening to my iPod the unit will cut off, and I am blasted by static from the station that I am tuned to. I have only intermittently been able to reset the unit using the button; most often I have to unplug the power adapter from the car and plug it back in before it will reset.

Caveta: This is my first transmitter purchase so I don't know if the behavior is normal to transmitters or if my area (Honolulu) is prone to this problem. But regardless, the fact is that this unit cuts off completely, blasts me with static (loudly) since the volume has to be turned up louder than a regular FM station would be.

I would not recommend this product. The auto-scan feature is gimmicky and the sequence for setting the menu presets is non-intuitive (i.e. press a button, press another button, hold one down for 3 seconds, press another button). There's only 3 buttons and I couldn't remember the sequence, no matter how hard I have tried.

5 out of 5 stars Monster iCarPlay is great!.......2007-09-08

Already had an earlier version which worked well, but this is even better. Easy to change stations. Great having station display on the iPod. Strong signal. Keeps it station setting even after being disconnected from power for days.
I ahve had Griffin and Sony adapter/FM transmitters before and this is the best yet.

2 out of 5 stars Loud fan and buzz in FM transmitter.......2007-09-24

Purchased the item September 7th 2007.

Put it in my 2007 Chevy Silverado for an FM transmitter for my Dell Axim X30.

Had a $15 cheap no-name fm transmitter from CompUSA that worked OK, but fell apart.

First thing I noticed was the loud fan. Sounds like an old noisy CPU fan. Doesn't seem to have any temperature sensing since it fires up right away and stays at full power. Rotated it to redirect the sound, but ended up getting an extension and sticking it in my console. I can still hear it over the HVAC fan and road noise (stereo off).

Next I tried the FM transmitter and found that it was clipping badly. I am running the Replay Gain Handler (No clipping) Plugin for Pocket Player (which fixed my clipping problems in the past) and fiddled with the gain to minimize the clipping. In the end, minimizing the gain and lowering the volume seemed to fix the clipping issue which lead to the next problem.

With or without content being sent the transmitter adds a low hum to the sound. This is not present on standard radio stations and wasn't as loud on my old cheap-o transmitter. Between the low volume/gain on my Axim and keeping the stereo volume low to avoid the hum, it can be frustrating.

Last issue... The USB plug was installed crooked. I had to twist the white wedge to get the plug in. It moved with a snap... so I don't have a lot of confidence in its longevity. It does work though.

Haven't tried the inverter.

Hope this helps other purchasers.

4 out of 5 stars great so far, we'll have to see in the long run.......2007-09-17

I just bought this unit, tried it out over the weekend...so far so good. I read the other review that said it died after a month, i'll have to see. It sounds like the may have blown the fuse, they did send a spare with it, and also you can pick them up online here or at many harware stores. Hard to say what happened. Anyway, It works great with my mp3 player and DVD player, and the brodcast is good, but i do wish it was a full fm range and not just 15 stations. I do have another transmitter, and when i got into larger cities, I used the whole range. But, for the versitility, you can't match this unit. It's universal for anything player, Ipods, zune, gigabeat, zen because it is a plug in, it has USB charge as well, is even has a lighter adapter for another device as well. Look around, you'll be back to get this one.

1 out of 5 stars Noisy.......2007-09-13

It looked good, and worked well. However, when I put this device into a cigar jack, it made a noise. Thus, I gave up using this device while I am driving.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-08-09

Used in my RV for a week trip. Ran my Ipod, GPS, and FM transmitter with no trouble at all. Works as it should. Very happy

1 out of 5 stars Coby CA-739 Wireless FM Transmitter.......2007-09-19

I purchased a new Coby CA-739 Wireless FM Transmitter but never got to use it since, it did not receive any power, even when plugged into my car's power source. I had my friend also try to get it to work, but we were unsuccessful. So I called Coby to try exchanging it, but the restocking fees, postage fees, and slow processing time made such a process worthless. I am very disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Not working properly.......2007-07-09

First day it was working perfect, but since the other day it, not working properly!

4 out of 5 stars Better that expected........2007-05-21

I purchased this FM transmitter few months back from Amazon and I am quite happy with the same using it in my Lexus. There is some loss of audio which is expected on a FM transmitter but still the quality is good. Setup was very simple. I have tuned it to 88.9FM and plug in my PDA with a 2.5mm adapter or use my MP3 player sometimes and both sound good with volume crancked up on both sides. There is some static sometimes but most of the time I am able to get clear signal. Only negative thing I could say about this is the plug that goes into the cigarette lighter is slightly large so I could not use it in husband's Prius. Overall I would recommend this product.

3 out of 5 stars Ok for the price!.......2007-05-12

I found this item little bulky compared to some other FM transmitters. The signal is not very stong, and I have to keep my MP3 player's volume at the maximum level for better quality. It loses contact with the power supply (thru cigaret lighter of car) once in a while. But overall it works fine and I am satisfied if I consider the price I paid.

1 out of 5 stars Didn't work in my 2006 Toyota .......2007-04-05

Did not work in my car (2006 Toyota Corolla) but it did work in my wife's 2003 Highlander (I'm only in my wife's vehicle about once a week). I can't recommend this product and suggest any potential buyer to proceed with caution.

Amazon.com Product Description

JVC's Kaboom boombox debuted in 1998, and fast earned a reputation as a durable, powerful companion for road trips and beach parties. JVC discontinued the model a few years later, but revived it in 2005 to the delight of fans, who loved the trademark cylindrical housing and powerful, bass-heavy design. The RV-NB10B is the Kaboom's latest incarnation, and includes all the Kaboom standards--such as 52 watts of total system power and a dual subwoofer design--but adds a few extras like a wireless FM transmitter and a guitar/mic input, making it a versatile, rugged choice for everything from backyard barbecues to karaoke parties.

The RV-NB10B's defining attribute is its black tube-like body, which combines a high-tech, industrial look with a protective casing that holds up to bumps, jostles, and other on-the-move hazards. Inside the housing sits a pair of 3.19-inch front-firing full-range speakers and 6.31-inch subwoofers, a combination whose bass performance far surpasses that of most other boomboxes. The speakers are also bi-amped, meaning the system drives the main speakers and subwoofers separately to minimize distortion and create a cleaner overall sound. And if that weren't enough, JVC added an independent subwoofer volume control and an Active Clear Sound (ACS) circuit that improves clarity and balance in the low range. The variety of bass-enhancing features makes the Kaboom a true bass lover's dream.

But powerful bass is just the beginning. The built-in CD player delivers such essentials as 50-track programming, repeat play, and random play, while offering support for CD, CD-RR/RW, and MP3 (on CD-R/RW) formats. Listeners will also dig the FM transmitter, which lets them stream MP3s from a digital audio player through the system's powerful speakers. And users who want to be the life of the party can simply plug a microphone into the 1/4-inch input and create an instant karaoke session. The input even works with 1/4-inch guitar and digital piano chords, so musicians who want to play along with the music can plug right in and jam.

Should listeners tire of CDs, they can turn to the built-in auto-reverse cassette deck, which records from either the CD player or the radio. CD recording is particular convenient thanks to the CD synchro-start recording function, which coordinates the first few seconds of CD playback with the beginning of the tape. Meanwhile, the RV-NB10B's digital AM/FM tuner offers 30 FM and 15 AM presets, making it easy to find your favorite station in a flash.

Other features include a blue backlit display that keeps the fun going after the sun goes down; a clock/timer with sleep and wake-up functions; four preset equalizer settings (flat, beat, pop, and clear); a unique shoulder strap with a remote control holder that makes the Kaboom far easier to carry than most boomboxes; and a remote control that operates the unit from a distance.

5 out of 5 stars Great boombox.......2007-05-26

I am very satisfied with this boombox, although it is not as loud as it looks. I was hoping it would be a little bit louder, but it still beats most other boombox out there.

4 out of 5 stars This boombox really rocks!.......2007-05-14

I grew up in the 80's and was looking for a boombox to rival those of my youth and this one certainly does. It has excellent low thumping bass sound and kicks out a lot of volume for a boombox. My guitars sound good through the guitar/microphone jack which gives me another option for jamming on the back deck with friends. It has an FM transmitter that you can use with an mp3 player or your computers audio out that works pretty well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it comes with a casette player...who uses casettes anymore? The other reason is the kind of odd strap for a handle. I guess it works OK as a shoulder strap but this thing is so big and heavy that it would be better served with a solid handle (or both a handle and the shoulder strap. The remote control is a nice feature. I'd give this product 4.5 stars if I could.

5 out of 5 stars Best one I have ever heard.......2007-03-17

Simply stated, this is the best sounding portable stereo I have ever heard. The full sound that it creates puts it in a class all by itself. I am pretty picky when it comes to music and being a bass fan I have to hear it. You may read some complaints on reviews about "too much bass" or "not the best sound" but to me, those people are acting like they are reviewing some BOSE Home Theatre System. For a potable stereo under $200 this thing puts out incredible rich, full sound that you would find in a $400 bookshelf stereo system.
I have a wireless network in my house and I play music through my Dell Axim and into the Kaboom Box through thte VERY handy AUX input (not a big fan of FM Transmitters). I use the stereo in my garage shop, in the backyard when having BBQs and no matter where, it puts out sound like I have a full blows stereo system installed in the area.
So if you want a portable stereo thats sounds amazing, then don't even bother looking further. I did a lot of shopping and no other puts out this rich sound or has the features the JVC Kaboom Box has.

4 out of 5 stars This thing kicks some bass.......2007-03-15

The radio is pretty sweet. Loud and kicking! What more can you ask for from portable radio. It's everything as advertised. My only drawbacks so far have been the lack of shuffle on MP3 CD's and the lower volume output on AUX in. The shuffle thing may be an operator error. The AUX in issue is also found in my car radio, so this must be standard. Otherwise, this thing shakes some booty.

5 out of 5 stars KABOOM!!!.......2007-03-09

I bought this same radio 9 yrs ago,it stop working so instead of getting it fixed I replaced it . The new addition that it plays mp3 cd's is great.
If you like alot of bass this is a great radio I use it at work .I work on loud machines so I needed a loud radio .There is nothing out there thats portable that beats it .I like the fact that you can carry it holding it by the top .

4 out of 5 stars Does what it is intended for.......2007-08-25

Has been a good product to use. Many hours of use. Only drawback has been certain times there is alot of static from the engine and the car is a 2006. Also [and this might be because I don't have a good frequency chossen] the music sounds like a fading radio station. Still very happy with it for the price and my general use.

4 out of 5 stars works better than others ive tried.......2007-08-19

ive got both the universal version and the ipod version of the belkin tunecast II, they are the same except the color. i got the cta unit about 3 months ago, it has better range indoors than the tunecast, also better clarity.doesnt work that well in a car(have yet to find one that does),the 2 aaa batteries last about 15 hours of continuous play, rechargeable nimh batteries run about 6-8 hours.if you want to listen to your mp3 player indoors, this is alot less expensive than belkin, has better range, and costs alot less.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money........2007-08-09

Cheap and nasty with slide around instructions ( cheap stick on paper instr. ) Could not get it to work at all even playing with the units equaliser type adjusters. When a engineer friend of mine tried he got a signal with a lot of static and a 2 foot range. I wish I had looked around more for a decent unit that WORKS.

PS: Blue light is very nice.

1 out of 5 stars fingers, keep walking!.......2007-06-06

Cheap, shoddy plastic. Turned on once, got only static and hiss. Turned on a 2nd time - nothing. The thing "worked" for less than 3 minutes.

Item's worth LESS than you'd pay for it w/ the shipping fees. And it's rather hard to return. Keep looking.

1 out of 5 stars Not happy with this product.......2007-05-02

Channels they provide have some broadcasting in my area and the sound sounds like a weak muffled FM station. And night you can just not think about. wish i read the reviews before I got this one. KEEP YOUR MONEY. berdell Chicago.

Product Description

Arkon's SF250 SoundFeeder Digital Wireless Stereo Music Adapter allows you to transmit the audio from any portable audio player to your car's FM radio in stereo! The electronics of the SF250 are based on Phase Lock Loop (PLL) synthesized circuitry. This technology allows you to tune in to a specific frequency, a definite advantage as you'll not have to deal with "electronic drift." The stability and performance of this device make the SF250 the perfect solution for nearly all of your portable audio adapting needs. Here's how it works! Simply plug the audio cord on the SoundFeeder into the headphone jack of your portable audio player. Then tune your radio to any of the 8 digitally tuned FM stations supported by this device. These include 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88, 7, 107.1, 107.3, 107.5, 107.7Mhz.Many competing products only offer 4 digitally tuned frequencies to choose from. The SoundFeeder SF250 has 8 thereby giving you twice as many chances of being able to find a blank station in your area.

Amazon.com Product Description

Play your portable music player in the car without upgrading your in-vehicle stereo system with the Arkon SF250 Digital SoundFeeder. The wireless FM adapter is designed to transmit the music from a portable CD player, iPod, or MP3 player to an empty frequency on your FM dial. All you have to do is plug the SF250 into your player's headphone jack, and then tune the radio to any one of the eight supported FM stations (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 107.1, 107.3, 107.5, and 107.7 MHz). Once you find an empty frequency, the SF250 plays your favorite songs directly through your car's stereo speakers. The sound quality is solid and reliable, and the unit's Phase Lock Loop (PLL) synthesized circuitry ensures you won't have to deal with electronic drift.

Listeners can also use the SF250 on other radios as well, such as home stereos or portable boomboxes. And at a mere 2.25 inches wide by 3 inches deep, the Digital SoundFeeder takes up very little space, letting you store it in a cup holder, pocket, or other location. 1 out of 5 stars For me, a waste of money.......2006-10-03

My goal: listen to XM radio from DirecTV receiver over the stereo system in our RV. The stereo system unfortunately has no aux input, so a transmitter sounded like the perfect solution.

Setup was easy and I used the RCA-style plug adapter thoughtfully provided to connect to the aux output of the DirecTV receiver. The RV antenna is directly above the cabinet containing the SoundFeeder, so the range is no more than 3 feet.

After trying the 88 and 107 MHz freqs, I still got loads of static & distortion. I thought it might be interferance from local (Dallas) FM stations transmitting near the 88 and 107 MHz freqs, but got the same distorted & staticky performance in camp, away from 88 and/or 107 MHz stations.

Sound quality is that of a VERY cheap AM transistor radio; we get better sound thru the 13" cheapie TV speaker. Very disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars AAA batteries?.......2006-01-11

I just received this item in the mail. I chose it specifically because everything said it took AA batteries. But now it says on the back of the package that it takes 2 AAA batteries. Disappointed and Confused.

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great.......2005-09-13

I like it for the most part but the thing with it is that it goes thru batteries like water. 1 set of batteries may last a few days and as it is sucking power the reception to whatever radio you use gets weak. Also, I found out that while using the transmitter, your player has to be turned down or else it will overdrive the transmitter and the sound will be poor. You pretty much have to search for the balance between your transmitter and radio in order to get quality sound between the them.

1 out of 5 stars shoddy construction, poor performance.......2005-09-10

The battery compartment on my unit was very difficult to open, one of the springs on the battery terminals broke the second time the batteres were replaced, in the Philadelphia area it was almost impossible to find a channel among the 8 available that gave decent sound quality without a lot of interference, could only get good sound quality in the boonies, and even then it drifted in and out.

4 out of 5 stars pretty good for the price.......2005-09-10

I used this product for my PSP in order to watch movies in the car. It worked good enough, but at certain points in our drive we couldn't find a decent station to broadcast and there was some static here and there. Also, they could have made the cord a little longer (it's only 6"). That being said, we were able to watch an entire movie without serious complaints. The battery life is good as well, it runs on 2 AA's.
But for my IPod I use the Monster ICar Play. This is a great product that also charges your IPod simultaneously. But the ICar will run you about 80 dollars. And the connection is strictly to an IPod. So if you don't want to shell out the big bucks, the Arkon SoundFeeder is a good alternative.

1 out of 5 stars This Blows!.......2007-07-19

I received the product the very next day! The seller was honest and efficient. However, the product itself does not work as well as I thought it would. I do not recommend the product but I do recommend the seller.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price.......2007-06-07

This unit is good for playing on a simple analog radio with no inputs. I am using it at work to play my iPod on the little cd boombox we have. I have this transmitter touching the antenna, and the quality is alright but not great. I'm sure there are better out there, but this is adequate for if you do not want to spend much money to play MP3s on a radio. Keep in mind that I had a hard time finding a clean station on the radio before even turning this on, so in a less busy area you may have better luck getting better sound quality. This would not work well in a car, you have to adjust the station carefully. I would only rate this 3 stars, but have read such bad reviews on almost every other wireless transmitter that i think this is probably a really good one for the very low price.

3 out of 5 stars Road Trip.......2006-07-09

I wished the range to find a empty station was wider. Sometimes I couldn't find a unbroadcasted area from FM88-95.

1 out of 5 stars Complete Pain.......2006-06-12

I thought it was a complete pain to have to adjust the radio then adjust the knob on the transmitter. It's very hard to manage while trying to drive so I dont recommend this. I wish I would have just paid a little more money for something better.

5 out of 5 stars Great Transmitter for analog tuning radio.......2006-03-02

This works great with radios/receivers that have analog tuning. It is not intended for radios/receivers with digital tuning (they have a different model).

Product Description

JVC is one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of sophisticated audio, video and related software products. Building upon a wealth of technologies the company is moving decisively to offer appropriate solutions for the multimedia age. To remain at the forefront of the audiovisual industry in the 21st century, JVC is marshalling its resources to create the ultimate in appealing, cost-competitive products.

The RV-NB10W is the Kaboom's latest incarnation, and includes all the Kaboom standards--such as 52 watts of total system power and a dual subwoofer design--but adds a few extras like a wireless FM transmitter and a guitar/mic input, making it a versatile, rugged choice for everything from backyard barbecues to karaoke parties.

The RV-NB10W's defining attribute is its white tube-like body, which combines a high-tech, industrial look with a protective casing that holds up to bumps, jostles, and other on-the-move hazards.

Meanwhile, the RV-NB10W's digital AM/FM tuner offers 30 FM and 15 AM presets, making it easy to find your favorite station in a flash.

The RV-NB10W measures 27.19 by 9.44 by 11.69 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

What's in the Box
RV-NB10W boombox, shoulder strap, remote control, AC power cord, user's manual.

5 out of 5 stars Kaboom!!!!!!.......2007-09-07

I bought one of these when they first came out in 1999.... right before I got into college. Mt roomates and I partayed all the time and the boombox was right there with us. The BASS on this thing is out of sight. Well needless to say, I still have it and it still works great. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get their money's worth. I would give it 10 stars if I could also..... enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Well-made, sound quality is ok, no tone control.......2007-09-06

Got my unit 2 weeks ago. I was surprised to find no tone control on the unit. The sound quality is only ok, and I end up setting the subwoofers to the lowest level as it muffled up the sound when set to anything higher than minimum. The wireless option is only decent, as there is quite a bit of static noise (just like what you would hear with a cordless phone). The Mic/guitar input is good, but it only accepts mono (there's no Line input for stereo). The remote control is full-function and is handy. The unit is big, heavy, and rugged enough.

I was hoping to use this as a more portable option instead of hauling my Fender Pd250, but the sound quality is way lagging behind what I get from the Fender.

I'm keeping it regardless.

5 out of 5 stars Wow, the BEST souding boombox, PERIOD!.......2007-07-21

If you like some bass in your music then this boombox is for you. The overall sound quality and clarity rivals some home theater systems. It is kinda big for my liking but very sturdy. For those of you complaining about how you lose the radio presets when you unplug, there's a battery backup system that'll prevent this. You simply put 3 x AA batteries in the same place where the D batteries go. I don't know why JVC doesn't simply integrate a memory chip that's commonly found in lower price boomboxes like Sony ZX-S10 S2 is beyond me. Another complain is that I would prefer a foldable handle rather than a strap which is somewhat cumbersome. Other than that, no real issues. Once again, the sound is just "ridiculous!"

3 out of 5 stars Good, but wouldn't buy another one........2007-06-01

Well, after having this piece for about a month now, I can say that I'm happy with it's performance, but upgrades are MOST DEFINITELY in it's future.

The radio performance, is poor at best. Three stations around me come in crystal clear on almost any device I've ever used. My local favorite rock station barely comes in, and has a lot of static. The two other stations come in, clear, but with noticeable background static. Even with the remote transmitter, at 5 feet away, it's poor.

CD player performance is okay, but on CD's that aren't perfect, the bass will make it skip. I have not used the tape deck, and probably never will.

The woofers sound nice, and have *good* bass response, but alas are in ported chambers. Anyone who knows anything about audio and enclosures knows what that means. The crossover is also probably a hair low, considering what the front speakers are capable of.

The main speakers are small, cheesy, and are more along the lines of your typical midrange. They do not have crisp highs at high volumes, and handle poorly when the unit is in "beat" mode.

The ACS feature is trash. Pure trash. Why someone would come up with it? I don't know, but it's stupid, makes the music sound poor, and responds poorly. Imagine standing at your stereo, and whenever something like a cymbal crash comes on, you twist the trebel knob from flat, to it's highest setting, and back. But not perfectly, you miss the beginning of the crash, and end sometime after it.

Now, due to the ACS feature, the box has no real EQ to it, just a few simple presets that aren't that great. I like crisp highs, and none of the presets offer that. Almost the only way I can stand to listen to it sometimes, is with my laptop, and the EQ on winamp I turn all the 3k+ faders to max.

I think it would help immensely if the box components, and had some decent tweeters on it. As well as some small long travel woofers. I'll be replacing them, most likely with a slightly larger coaxial speaker. Minor trimming of the inside plastic ring will probably easily fit a 5.25" speaker.

The front display has POOR viewing angles to it. You have to be close, and almost straight on to see it. Not that it really matters for me, as it generally only says AUX in it.

I don't like the fact that it has no cd memory to it, so if I go to a radio station (which I rarely do) and back to the CD player, it starts back at track one.

I may try a good high quality high gain antenna on it, to see if that improves the reception, but I doubt it. It seems more like a tuner problem.

The best thing available for what it claims, yes. Anything near what I expected for 220 dollars, no. Would I recommend it... I don't know. To someone who likes to take apart expensive stuff and upgrade it... definitely. To someone who's expecting a lot for over 200 dollars, but doesn't have the skills to modify something like what I described, no way.

Most people who have seen mine were very impressed at what it is capable of, but anyone who claims to be an audiophile and likes this thing, apparently has no idea what it means to be an audiophile.

5 out of 5 stars great boombox.......2007-02-15

the photo looks silverish, even though JVC-w is white, it came, same color as a white ipod, i was hoping for the silver. other than that minor color difference, this thing cranks! the fm transmitter works, not the greatest of range (only a .001 watt). I tried it across the room from my laptop plugged in the transmitter, and sounds just like an FM station. tiny bits of static, but its only a .001 watt. Everything came new, in the box, no problems. remote & books there. i definitly recommend this product. i was pricing out these things at 279 at walmarts for a few weeks. at $100 less, u can't go wrong.

3 out of 5 stars Wireless FM Transmitters have a long way to go, search for another solution.......2006-05-31

I really don't know how many stars should I give to this product, 2 or 3, because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't do it very well.

Unfortunately, where I live, 3 of the 4 frequencies are been used. When I use the kinda empty one: on the morning I get some static, and/or noises from that frequency, interferences; but at night I don't. Sometimes at night I put the transmitter on the back seats of my car and I'm able to still listen very well, but just at night and like I said, sometimes.

With the other frequencies it's almost imposible to hear something. Specially with the first one that is in use, I just can hear the station. Tunning isn't the solution.

Another thing that I have to do in my car is that I have to put the transmitter on the top of the console, because the stereo is at the top. I really don't know how to explain this but the one who has a '94 Isuzu Trooper or has ride it could imagine this situation. For my consideration that may be dangerous because any thief could just get in his arm and get my mp3 and the transmitter, if I'm with my window down (like most of the time because I like it that way). Is not that I'm paranoic, the thing is that in my city people cross on the middle of the streets, and here anything could happen. So, in that place is where I get the best reception and also sometimes static and interference too...

I also tried on another car and was terrible, even closer that in my car. The static was anoying, tunning didn't even work.

I've also tried it on many places, like boomboxes, stereos, amplifiers, etc and the result was the same. The thing here is that the transmitter is closer to the stereo; get your own conclusions with this because the problem is the same one. Even if you tune it, it's the same.

I bought this product by Philips instead of Coby (CA-739) because I know the reputation that Philips has and what involves buying anything from Coby, but I have to say that I'm not happy with this. I thought that all my audio problems were gone with this system, no way! If you want to take the risk, maybe think about getting the one from Coby.

Finally I found where to place the transmitter. Now the thing is how I'm going to stand it. What I'm trying to say is that you better buy one that can be plug into the 12v, more comfortable and esthetic. You have to consider space and a safe place for your player too.

I'm thinking of just fix my cassette player and use the cassette adapter back because this is not the first time I read problems like this one.

Maybe you should consider buying one that may allow you to use any frequency and that has quite wide range.

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy.......2006-05-17

Purchased one of these locally (Seattle - King County Area)for use with sansa 512 mb mp3 player. Was completely unable to even hear my mp3 player over the radio instead what I got was KPLU (Pacific Lutheran Universities)radio station playing Reggae, Jazz or NPR clips. Do not buy if there is a radion station anywhere on 88 FM in your area because that station will be all you get.
