Good camera , poor customer service.......2007-07-03

I had purchase the P1 a year ago. This will be my second digital Nikon and fourth Nikon camera over the years.

The pros include great optics, numerous photographic effects, vibration reduction with movie mode, fast recover time with mediocre SD cards

Cons which are all minor include, picture dial moves too easily and is bumped easily. Portrait focus is slow and often does not distinguish faces. No viewfinder which renders the camera almost useless in the bright sun with LCD(forcing to take blind shots), WiFi is difficult to set-up.

Nikon service on the other hand is pathetic. Yes the camera was dropped and subsequently the shutter button was damaged. That was the only damage to the camera. It still worked fine only every once in a while the button fell off. I sent in the camera in for repair, the estimate was $150.00, half the cost of a camera. This did not even include a new housing.
So this is equivalent to purchasing a $20,000 new car and having to pay $10,000 for a new blinker assembly and with depreciation due to better models being worth $12,000.

Brilliance with simplicity.......2007-06-22

I've had the Nikon Coolpix P1 digital camera for more than a year now. This was my first digital camera and I'm considerably satisfied with its performance. Being from Florida, I must mention that my P1 has also stood up well in conditions of rain, wind and fog!

The Coolpix P1 has 16 different modes (and further advanced sub-modes!!) for speedy image capture. There is also an AUTO mode with intelligent flash and self-timer options for that quick snap (at 14000ft just before going on your skydive, or for capturing Shamu's nighttime antics :) )

The coolest features of this camera include the brilliant 2.5inch LCD screen, 8MP stunning clarity, In-camera Red-Eye Fix, D-Lighting, and the video capture ability. These features easily compensate for the comparatively lesser optical zoom (the P1 has 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 4x digizoom). Note that this 3.5x lens is what makes the P1 so compact and small in size. When I opened the package, I was amazed at size of this camera and the ton of features it encased.

The P1 has superior video and sound recording capabilities. I've experimented with the panoramic image mode, sports and night modes, and got excellent results. Photos come out clear and crisp, and there is hardly any blurring when the right mode is used. I've had the Wifi setup go smooth and easy, (must mention that being a CS grad helps) and the transfer speed was great. (However, note that using the Wifi excessively depletes the battery fast.)

Nikon has several new variants in the Coolpix-P line now. These boast of improved features, like the eVR (Vibration Reduction capability in P3) and improved image quality. However, the P1 has been a steady performer, giving exemplary performance, unmatched image quality and quick point-n-shoot ease of use. 5-STARS!!!

p.s: I recommend getting an extra set of batteries Nikon EN-EL8 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery for P1, P2, S1 & S3 Digital Cameras and two of those 1Gb high-speed SD cards for long travel. Happy Photographing!

Great travel camera.......2007-02-06

I own several Nikon cameras including the D200 and this is a great addition to my photography collection for use on those quick, last minute trips. I throw it in the car or boat for that unexpected shot you usually miss. This camera has great features, produces good quality photos and you won't be disappointed.

My Mom and I both are into photography as I inheirited her film camera and had to save up for the P1. The 8MP gives great enlargements. one problem I do have however is I will take a picture in Macromode and go back to it later on the computer and realize it was out of focus. Even after a year of ownership I still have a hard time finding the proper depth of field.
Good camera for night photos. I still rely on my Pentax K100 for the artistic stuff.

This is a great A/V receiver. In fact I would say the entry level Denon is equal or better than some other higher priced A/V receivers in excess of $1500.

My wife who is not an "audiophile" heard the difference between this reciever and our 5 year old Yamaha, in the next room, after I had it all connected. That is a testament to its overall fidelity.

I would have purchased a model upward, if I knew my brother would be giving me his Magnapans (4 ohms), as the 484 does not have a 4 ohm output, but with that said it appears to drive my MMG's perfectly.

Other brands I used: Yamaha in the early 80's (stereo) Harmon / Kardon (mid 80's) JVC (Pro-logic) late 80's to mid 90's, Yamaha
mid 90's to 2002. (Dolby D).

Setting up the Aero 2110 was easy--we just removed the protective strips from the main and backup batteries, plugged in the AC adapter, and attached the synchronization cable to the desktop "partner" PC's serial port. We followed the Aero's setup wizard and then dropped in the software CD-ROM and followed the Windows CE installation wizard--all clearly explained in the Quick Start Guide.

You operate the Aero with five front-mounted and two side-mounted push buttons or by tapping the stylus on the display. The Aero is comfortable to hold and operate, and the high-resolution backlit color screen is beautifully easy to read in any light.

The Windows CE CD-ROM provides the necessary software to manage tasks on your desktop PC and synchronize them with the Aero. Compaq also provides supplemental software to download audio programs, view standard digital files, and more.

A similar but much friendlier process downloads e-mail and Web content--news, magazine subscriptions, and so on--that you can read offline.

With its attractive ergonomic design, complete set of personal organizer functions, color screen, expandable memory, digital audio abilities, terrific software suite, and Windows CE operating system, the Aero is a fun and useful PDA.

Review after having an Aero for a year........1999-11-26

The Compaq Aero is a great product in regards to productivity and it's use of the Windows CE software. However there are a few buyer beware issues that you should be aware of which I came to after having mine for a year now:

1. The screen is not resistant enough to scratches to allow for long term writing with the included sylus. If you plan to write on your PDA daily and for long periods, sctaches on the bottom appear, and only get worse with use.You will want to purchase screen protectors from a company like Concept Kitchen to protect your screen.

2. Three of my co-workers as well as myself purchased these products at the same time. In 2 of them, the audio went out and never came back.. The vertict when we compared notes: The 2 of us who lost our audio played alarms and MP3's (using the MP3 player), which were very loud. If your looking for a good audio system, you should consier the Casio model instead, which also features stereo audio (Compaq's Aero is mono only)

3. If this will become a necessary part of your life, and if you find that you are using it the majority of your day, you will want to get one of many PDA Accessory kits that are available at various online retailers. Look for one that includes screen protection accessories and cleaning products. The sooner you get this, the better. I found out too late that my screen was getting scratched with my writing, and even though my screen is now protected I have unrecoverable damage to my screen.

Overall, the system performs well, and is rugged enough to be thrown in a briefcase or a pocket daily. This is most useful to someone who is a Microsoft Windows user at home and work, since the interface is almost identical (There is even a start button). If you are a hobbiest wanting the latest and most feature rich PDA, this is not for you, the Casio and HP models may be better. However, if you are a business professional who wants a reliable system that can live with a mono audio system and an acceptable color visual display, this model is for you.

Compaq 2150.......1999-11-22

This is a nice tool with one very basic flaw. The screen is difficult to see in normal indoor light. However, the voice recorder is a real plus for 'in traffic' ideas and reminders to myself. The earphone and the audio book program is a nice addition for tedious airplane travel. The available v.90 modem allows easy e-mail and faxing which sometimes allows me to travel without my heavy laptop.

The best PDA on the market!.......1999-10-21

I spent hour comparing PDA's and found the Compaq to have the most for the least. The color screen is a must and the voice recorder is a great time saver, especially when on the road. The screen and text entering system is the easiest of all the PDA's. Synch up to your Outlook and have all your calendar appointments and phone numbers on the road. My only complaint is the lack of accessories on Amazon and in the stores. It would be nice to have a better case, more memory, things like a finger stylus, etc. This product gets very little press but it is truly a remarkable time management tool that I can not live without!

Windows CE works tremendously on the Compaq. Since I use Outlook 2000 on my PC, the screens on the Compaq using CE are as straightforward as it gets for looking up contacts, tasks, calendar items, or e-mails. I really like the fact that you can keep the unit in the cradle while at the office, which charges the battery, and keeps the unit in continuous synch with my PC so that I can grab the Compaq and head out the door when I need to go -- rather than waiting to synch up before I go.

When I'm on the road, I can quickly record an idea on the Compaq by pressing the voice record button that is safely & strategically located in the corner where I can get to it without otherwise turning the unit on,or opening the case. I've been very pleased with it!
