Old Unreliable..........2006-12-29
I don't know if it's my modem or my ISP...but for some reason my Internet connection keeps getting lost. I've had this modem for about a year now and most of the time it does what it's supposed to do. Every now and then, however--sometimes for a day and sometimes for weeks--it loses its commnection. Then I have to unplug it, reset it, plug it back in...see if it works.... If it doesn't, I have to do it again...maybe call my ISP on the phone....
I get a lot of downtime when I should be online and productive. Shop around. I figure there must be something more reliable than this out there.
Was great for a year and then...........2006-12-15
Like other reviwers stated, works fine for awhile then gradually gets worse and worse. After about 1 year mine had trouble connecting all the time. Now I've switched it out I've had no problems connecting since.
just a plain good cable modem.......2006-12-11
I recieved my sb5100 free with hook up to cable internet, and this is 500 times better than the one I had in kansas city. fast, reliable, no problems in 3 years now. Highly recommended, very affordable, dependable brand. Great price, great value.
had to be replaced.......2006-09-24
i had this modem for about 9 months and for the first 8 months it ran perfectly. unfortunately, it gradually became harder and harder to get online. it took longer and longer to connect and it kept dropping the connection while i was online. at first, i thought it was just Comcast having problems or maybe it was my computer. I switched the computer and called Comcast but still ended up with the same problems. it was the modem that was the problem. i didn't have any problem with Comcast replacing it for free though. they gave me a Scientific-Atlanta Inc. modem, so time will tell if this one does the same. don't worry though if you had bought one. Comcast knows about this problem and they will swap out your modem no problem.
Trouble free.......2006-08-19
I've been using this modem for three years without a hiccup. Although there are newer models available, if you can find a working used version of this modem (and your ISP supports it) it should (hopefully) last for years and cost a lot less than the latest modems.

Camera fine but beware.......2007-01-21
The camera itself if fine but please beware. They show the product weight at 20lbs meaning you will be charged over $40 to ship when the box it arrived in shows 3 lbs.
That said, I really like the camera, it is going to take a while to get through all the features but seems to be far superior to the standard point and clicks I have been using.
Great camera.......2007-01-10
Yes, I am slow to make this review, maybe because I spend a great deal of time using this camera.
The ONLY thing I would like to have changed, is a rechargable pack. At first I burned thru many batteries. I switched to rechargables, and find that I still use a great deal of power, (I shoot often with the flash,) but now I can recharge the spent batteries after each session. I use the charge of 12 AA's in a 3 hour shoot.
I use this camera for studio work and it has served me well for a good number of years already!
Takes great pictures and has a ton of features.......2007-01-02
I purchased this camera 2 or 3 years ago, and still use it as if brand new today. This camera is excellent for amateur hobby photographers like myself, as it has a lot of functions that can be accessed by the click of a dial, such as shutter speed, aperture priority, manual function, etc. To be honest, the camera has so many functions that I don't even understand how to utilize it to its full potential. If you are well versed in photography, this camera is for you. If you are just a point and shoot kind of person, this camera has too many functions that it wouldn't be worth it. I purchased a 1G memory card that will store over 1000 pictures (the camera comes with one that only saves like 20 photos). The software is easy to use and has nice photo viewing and editing capability. The only caveat is that the size makes it too bulky to take along everywhere so it can only be used in planned outings, not something you carry around with you daily, thus stripping you of your random photo op. One other thing that I have trouble with is that if the settings are not perfectly adjusted in some low light situations, the pictures come out blurry. But it does take really great flash photos and some settings make the night look like daytime. You really just have to play around with the settings if you are an amateur like me, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. I love this camera and the quality of the photos is near professional.
looks robust but is flimsy.......2006-09-11
I have had both the S5000 and the S5100 I was disapointed when my S5000 power switch stopped working after 18 months, but I was happy with the picture quality. I replaced it with the S5100, it has a slightly better feature set over the S5000 (in particular shutter speed choices) while on a trip to Niagara Falls, I was unfortunate to give my camera a slight jolt (and I mean slight) after that it wouldn't power up. I am now looking for something a liitle more robust and reliable.
You can trust your photo memories with this one.......2006-08-13
Had the Fuji S5100 exactly one year now. Meant to write a review after our Hawaii trip last year. Just back from second annual trip and remembered that I hadn't entered a review yet.
First - you'll be more satisfied the more you use it. This is my 5th digital camera and first Fuji. It's really grown on me.
My wife rarely uses it since I take virtually every photo. But when she does, I just set it to AUTO, remind her how to zoom, and find that the pic's are just fine.
I use a 512mb xD. I routinely fill up a card on one set of batteries (almost all of my shots are at the 2mp setting which are just fine for most any purpose). But beware - use only high quality digital batteries. If you are on a budget, here's a surprising find - buy the Kirkland 40-ct box at Costco. It's only about $11 and they are conveniently shrinkwrapped in 4-ct bundles - great for packing an extra set. These are far better than any other generic or store brand versions and rival the special batteries for digital products.
With a 512MB card, I never deplete batteries by reviewing/deleting photos in camera. Download using a card reader and do your purging on the PC instead. Shots you might have deleted using the LCD may turn out to have an interesting look when seen on computer. And, unless you really have to use the LCD, learn to use the viewfinder it matches the final shot pretty well and it's more discreet.
Here's a fail-safe insurance tip for good shots. Use fast shutter mode. There's a special button for this on the top of the camera. This allows 3 shots at a time in rapid succession. You can select first 3, last 3 or bracketing mode. I use last 3 for almost every photo. Just depress the shutter and the camera starts shooting. When you release, the last 3 shots are saved. I always find at least one keeper. (bonus tip - only in AUTO mode, you can squeeze off up to 40 in a row - try it at knee level while following your toddler or during the last 10 yards before a finish line).
I get incredible indoor shots without a flash, using Sports mode with fast shutter while increasing the ISO to 400. Be sure to resist the urge to zoom too far, the shots get darker and fuzzier in dim light. Use widest mode and move yourself closer. Great for photos of the talent show without distracting the performers with a flash.
I recently discovered a cool new technique using Continuous AF and Aperture mode. Open up the Aperture to the highest level, set your ISO to 64, and find a still subject with an interesting background. You'll get an ultra crisp detailed view of your subject with the background blurred slightly. Very professional!
I use a tiny 6 inch tripod for night shots. There are two timer modes. One for 10 seconds and one for 2 seconds. Use the 2 second mode when you are not in the shot. Be sure to use bracket mode to squeeze off 3 shots in a row. You'll get one regular, one brighter, and one darker shot to choose from later.
One technique I started using is utilizing more candid shots with less posing. You can turn off the beeper and false-click sound using Set Up mode so your subjects are less aware. While getting the family to line up for a group shot, try squeezing off a few fast-shutter shots as they are moving around. You can quietly zoom in on a smaller group and get some very interesting and touching photos and they'll never know.
I think it has a relatively fast response time. It helps a lot if you can frame your shot before hand but it's not really necessary. Just squeeze half-way down so that all you need to do is squeeze all the way at the right moment. When I can't frame the exact shot, just pick a spot approximately the same distance and frame that as a substitute. This works well when there's lots of light.
Why won't I give this 5 stars? It's a bit too big to be ultra portable in a briefcase or purse (I travel a lot) and I find that some colors appear bland. I fix a fair amount with a photo editor. But it's still my favorite camera.

hevykevy.......2007-04-26
I've owned the KX-TG5100M for three years now with a total of four handsets. Sure, I had to replace the original batteries after the first year ($70 for four NiMhs from Panasonic), but otherwise I've had no other problem with it. I've used the intercom feature on it a lot to talk to family members on different floors, and we've even used one of the handsets in a "baby monitor" fashion (while in the charging cradle even!) with out any problems. My only disappointments are, that the base unit's speaker phone has no mute function and that the handset's speaker phone function won't work while it's sitting in the charging cradle. Having skimmed most of the previous reviews, my comments are: I live in N. Illinois where there lightning storms and you absolutely need to use a surge protector on BOTH the AC line AND the telephone line (in the past I've lost at least one base unit [different makes], and in another case I had to replace the surge protector, which saved the telephone base unit I might add [much cheaper], after a nearby lightning strike took it out); also, when you buy an additional additional handset, you have to place it in cradle on the base unit for a few moments (assuming the new handset's battery has been fully charged!) in order for the base unit to "recognize" the new handset. e.g.[ASIN:B000NCTIE4 Cordless Phone Surge Protector]]
Good for over 2 years.......2007-04-02
I bought this phone used, on eBay, about 2 1/2 years ago. I did a lot of reading before I bought it and found that there is a known issue with battery life of the handsets. For everyone that has mentioned battery life, there is a solution.
When I bought the phone, the station with 2 handsets was $60 on eBay. I immediately ordered 2 Energizer ER-P511 NiMH batteries to replace the Panasonic throw aways. I had the battery life problem with my previous Panasonic phone set, but, this set never dies! My family has talked for hours on a single charge and left the handset in a few interesting places, only to be found again with the paging system and plenty of battery life. At 2 hours of talk time, it still shows two bars.
The voice quality is not the best, but, it's not bad either. I use Vonage and no one can tell that I'm not on a traditional line. It's definately better than any of the 2.4 GHz phones out there.
The range is more than I need so I can't complain about it. I can go to the corner of my back yard on the opposite side of the house from the base station and experience minimal static. I've gone so far as to walk to the end of our street (a cul de sac) and still had enough coverage to carry a conversation, although it was a weak signal at that point.
Overall, I would have given the phone 5 stars if I didn't have to provide my own batteries to make it useable.
third time i buy it.......2007-02-20
i buy this telephone with 6 optional phones to all my rooms but is the third time i have to buy the main phone base because it only last aproximately 2 1/2 years and because of the investment i have in the 6 phones i have to be buying the main base again and again.
Great phone - bad batteries.......2006-05-19
The phone works great, although the headset volume could be a little "hotter." I don't program #'s in the phone or base station, so I can't comment there. The answering machine works fine and sounds good. The handset and base station speakers are acceptable for talking to friends and family, but I wouldn't hold a work conference call on either if I could avoid it. My house is on a 1 acre lot and the handset maintains clear communication anywhere on my property.
As mentioned in other reviews, the handset batteries are horrible, but they can be easily replaced with ER-P511 NiMH from Energizer. I've been unable to run that battery down. If the batteries from Panasonic were worth anything, I'd have given the phone 5 stars.
battery problem??.......2005-11-01
I am very unhappy with this panasonic model as well. The battery never gets fully charged even though the indicator says someting different. The phone keeps indicating tobe placed near the base even when it is like a hairline of a distance away. This phone can die on you and I have changed the batteries for both my handsets 2 times in the last 8 months! I would never recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Great for golf!!!.......2007-07-29
I bought this Bushnell Elite 1500 Rangefinder to use for golf. It is similar to the Bushnell Pinseeker model and was just a little bit cheaper. I used this product today during a round of golf and found it to be very helpful and extremely accurate. Most of my playing partners were asking me to shoot their yardage for them after I had done so for myself.
It definitely takes the guesswork out of which club to choose and exactly how far you have to the pin. You can also shoot trees and other landmarks such as bunkers to give you an idea of which clubs to hit to avoid that trouble.
I would highly recommend this for any golfer or hunter who needs to find out exactly how far they are away from a particular target. The value is unbeatable. Amazon has the cheapest prices by far!!

Amazon.com Product Description
In the U.S., German-based Navigon may be the biggest name in gps you've never heard. Navigon has long been a major provider of navigation software to automotive manufacturers for in-dash gps navigation devices, but only recently did they introduce portable navigation devices under their own name. What they offer up, however, demonstrates immediately that this is a company that knows navigation inside and out.
The 5100 is the smaller sibling to Navigon's flagship 7100. The 5100 has a 3.5-inch screen, while the 7100 has a 4.3-inch widescreen. The 5100 also has a chrome casing, as opposed to the shiny piano black of the 7100. Like the 7100 however, the 5100 packs in a lot of useful features into its sleek frame.
The Navigon 5100 offers a premium navigation experience in a sleek package. View larger. |
Intuitive, animated menus offer predictive text input, helping you select your destination quickly. View larger. |
The lane assistant provides guidance to the optimal lane for your route. View larger. |
The reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions. View larger. |
Lots of
Features
Navigon decided not to try to add multimedia features like a photo viewer or MP3 player into its devices, but instead focused on navigation-based features, so its devices tend to offer an array of navigational aids that are unmatched in similarly priced devices from other manufacturers. The 5100 is no exception.
This navigation device provides you with precise turn-by-turn directions, including spoken road names via text-to-speech. The 5100 includes built-in Bluetooth technology that enables hands-free mobile phone integration, which not only increases driver safety, but is fast becoming a necessity as states pass laws against talking on a cell phone hand set while driving.
Reality View and Lane Assistant
These two features that are a great help in negotiating unfamiliar or complicated road systems. Lane Assistant recommends the best lane for you to be in relative to the proposed route, so you won't find yourself trying to move over three lanes when the freeway splits.
Reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions, complete with actual sign text and exit ramp guidance. This makes translating what the navigator is telling you to what you see on the road instantaneous.
Free Traffic for Life
This is a biggie. Like the 7100, the Navigon 5100 comes with subscription-free, real-time traffic information via an integrated traffic receiver with no additional fees or setup for the life of the product. Be advised on traffic flow and incidents, as well as the best alternate routes. Subscription-free also means easy setup. The traffic info starts working as soon as you get the 5100 out of the box.
Zagat Ratings and Branded Icons for POIs
All of Navigon's gps navigators offer Zagat ratings and reviews for their POIs, so while this device may not get you a beer, it can tell you where to find the best one. Branded icons displayed on your map make it easier to navigate to a familiar location of your choice.
Superior Software and Hardware
The features and functions of the Navigon 5100 are controlled via intuitive, easy-to-use animated menus that use predictive text input to quickly and easily select your city, state and address. Maps and menus appear on its extra-large and elegant, high-contrast 3.5-inch, full-color touch-screen display. The 5100 includes a powerful Samsung 400 MHz processor, a fully integrated SiRF Star III GPS chip, 64 MBs of both RAM and ROM built in, and a rechargeable 1,200 mAh lithium ion battery that is rated for 4.5 hours of continuous use. All this is housed in an ultra-thin, sleek chrome housing that weighs only 6.3 ounces, and measures just 4.2 x 3.3 x 0.9 inches (W x H x D). The Navigon 5100 even comes pre-loaded with complete maps of the U.S. and Canada, providing you with superbly accurate, seamless door-to-door directions wherever your vehicular travels might take you.
Note that the 5100 runs on the Microsoft Windows CD Net 5.0 operating system. A PC is required to use additional map data, and in such cases users require Windows 2000, ME, XP or higher, as well as a CD ROM drive and a USB port. An SD/MMC card reader is recommended as the 5100 not only uses SD cards, but also comes with a 2 GB SD card in the package.
What's in the Box
The Navigon 5100 preloaded with North American maps, 2 GB SD card, car charger, wall charger, car mount, USB cable, CD and user manual on DVD, quick installation guide, and warranty information.

NAVIGON 5100: Crap.......2007-09-20
I recently received the Navigon 5100 as a gift (that I requested) and have been putting it through it's paces around Los Angeles. I am now returning it due to the fact that the routing is inaccurate and convoluted.
For example:
(1) to go to work the Navigon 5100 takes me three blocks out of my way only to have me circle back and go the correct direction.
(2) When I stray off course the unit often has me turn around and follow the street it first suggested. It should not do this. The 5100 should recalculate and take me to the next available street.
(3) When I first received the 5100 I searched for the nearest Bank and up popped the bank I go to every week. I looked at the turn by turn directions and low and behold it had me make 5 turns down 4 different streets. The funny part is the bank is only two streets away. WTF?
(4) the POIs are out of date or just plain incorrect. I was looking for a place to eat, saw that there was a McDonalds near by, followed the directions and guess what? There was no trace of a McDonalds! I asked a friend who has lived in the area for over 30 years and she said there has never been a McDonalds at that location.
I can live without finding the nearest Mc Donalds, but I can't live with a FIVE-HUNDRED DOLLAR navigation unit that tells me to go completely out of the way.
Thankfully I have been close to familiar territory and I haven't had to use this thing while traveling.
The 5100 is a cool looking unit and I like it's features, but if it can't give efficient driving directions than what is the purpose of having it?
I wonder if a firmware and software update will fix these problems? I guess it doesn't matter to me at this point, I'm returning this thing and buying a Garmin.
Additional Cons regarding the Navigon 5100:
-no auto day/night mode
-one voice option
-text to speech is poor
-convoluted and inaccurate routing
-tiny screen means you need tiny fingers to operate it
-the mount is poor and becomes loose after a while
-it's way overpriced
Pros:
-sleek design
-neat interface
-zagat POIs
-free TMC (traffic info)
-lane assistant & reality view is pretty cool
I REALLY-REALLY wanted to like this thing, considering it's innovative features like lane assistant and reality view ... but if it can't get me from point A to point B with out taking me out of the way towards Z than what is the point of having a navigation unit?
Look for news of updates before buying.......2007-09-15
I own a 7100. 90% of the function and all of the 7100 software is is identical with the 5100.
I am entusiastic about the well known European maker and the product line's entry into the US market, but there are quite a few bugs with the first release 5100/7100, and the "jury is still out" on whether there will be strong support and proper adaption for N. American use.
If there are serious revisions over the next couple of months to address routing problems, "Points of Interest" look up, and "Text to Speech" which works half the time only, then this is a excellent device, which has the needed support. If not, then it is an a half-functional GPS from a company that releases and orphans its US line and I would avoid any current or future product from this company.

I was very pleased with the price and quality of the item; it does exactly what i purchased it for, to provide easy transfer of datato my nokia phone
Very Unsatisfactory.......2007-01-03
After hours upon hours of trying to get this cable and software to work, It eventually allowed me about an hour of connected time, and then never worked again. My opinion is to stick with the OEM cable. The extra money's worth paying to avoid the headache.
