Great little device for laptops but, ............2005-04-20

I wanted to upgrade the HDD in my laptop while also replacing the HDD in a 15 year old laptop that I wanted to turn into a Linux machine. This kit was a godsend. I also used Norton Ghost to transfer files. However, I discovered that my XP system wouldn't work after I installed the new HDD. The trick is to not assign the external drive a letter; and also remember to copt the MBR. The hassle was due to my own ignorance.
Incidentally, 15-year old 2.5 HDDs are too fat to fit in this case. New 2.5 HDDs with 15 times the storage capacity of the older HDDs slip into the case easily. Anyone interested in a 2.5 inch paperweight ?
BTW, the kit comes with a USB connector with TWO USB connections. One connection is for the data transfer and power. The other connection is for additional power. Smart. Very smart. Particularly when you are trying to copy files onto a 15-year old HDD that sounds like a motorcycle.
The only disadvantage in owning this kit is the "pickup truck" syndrome. Once you have one, everyone wants to borrow it.
