Product Description
Panasonic SL-SX480A is a very compact portable CD player. Not only will it play CDs that you buy in stores but it will also play CDR and CDRW discs recorded on your computer, including those encoded with MP3 files. Panasonic has developed new technologies, integrated into the SL-SX480A, that allow for a better listening experience than found on other portable CD players.
Advanced D.sound technology is comprised of four components that work together to elevate your audio experience to the next level. A Digital Amplifier helps reduce distortion and also helps you achieve crystal-clear sound?even at higher volume levels. The S-XBS and Digital Audio Gain Control help to improve bass response at higher volume levels and MP3 Re-Master technology allows the listener to receive outstanding sound quality from compressed music files, such as MP3. Harmonized Bass technology reproduces the harmonic series of bass components. This gives the listener the sensation of a fuller bass sound that cannot actually be reproduced with headphones and compact speakers. No-Skip Anti-Skip system lets you run, move, and jog while listening to flawless CD play.
Get the most efficiency out of battery power. You can achieve up to 75 hours of MP3 and up to 33 hours of CD-DA playback with just two AA alkaline batteries (not included).
Extraordinarily compact, with a diameter at just about the size of a CD itself, the Panasonic SL-SX480A proves itself to be a reliable performer. It's an affordable and practical way to carry music with you - where ever you choose to go. D.SOUND headphones included Sleek, round design Powered by 2 AA Alkaline Batteries Color - Blue Unit Dimensions (H x W x D) 31/32'' x 5-14/32'' x 5-14/32''; Weight 0.46 lbs
Amazon.com Product Description
Measuring just under an inch thick and weighing less than half a pound, the Panasonic SL-SX480A personal CD player is a great choice whether you're working out at the gym, commuting on the train, or listening at home in the bedroom. The player boasts a sleek, round housing with an attractive blue cover that snaps down securely during playback. More significantly, the unit plays more than just prerecorded CDs, with compatibility for both CD-R/RW discs and compressed MP3 files burned onto a CD-R/RW. The expanded playback options give users access to far more of their digital music library each time they leave the house. Active users will also appreciate the anti-skip system and its related backup memory function (45 seconds for CDs and 100 seconds for MP3s), which combine to ensure a disruption-free listening experience while jogging or driving.
At the core of the SL-SX480A's audio performance is Panasonic's advanced D.sound technology, which comprises four main components: a digital amplifier that reduces distortion for a clearer overall sound; the bass-enhancing facility of the S-XBS super bass boost and the digital audio gain control; and an MP3 remastering function that restores much of the lost fidelity of compressed MP3 audio files. The system also includes four equalizer settings to further enhance the audio experience.
And Panasonic wasn't content to stop there. The company also added a function called H.Bass, which reproduces the series of harmonic bass components that most headphones and compact speakers can't touch. As a result, the listener will enjoy the sensation of fuller bass through the SL-SX480A even when listening over a set of compact ear buds.
Also impressive is the array of playback functions--including 20-track programming, repeat play (one and all tracks), and random play--and the CD player's extra-long playback times, which extend up to 75 hours for MP3s and 33 hours for CDs. The CD player, which measures 5.43 inches in diameter, runs on a pair of AA alkaline batteries and comes with Panasonic's D.sound stereo headphones. The unit also carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

simply swwweeeettttt!!!.......2007-09-14
Haters will hate for the rest of this lifetime. If you listen to them, you won't get anywhere. I read the reviews and finally pissed off at my head spinning, took the chance. I have one word for the player, great, why??
-Buttons are small but not microscopic. They are in'sync with the size of the player. They are easy to push.
-Battery power is quite good and you won't find yourself buying shares at Energizer.
-Light and really mobile.
-Looks good.
It's great, not amazing, whhyy??
-The position of the battery case, simply irritating as you have to pry the battery out unless your nails are, well... scary.
-Detailing of the buttons is white against a white background, kind of like using a black lead pencil on a black paper.
-Headphones drown your ears such that the moment you take them off the ears take a deep breath of air. I must say if body building applied to the ears, owning this set would qualify you for the olympics. The sound is nice and balanced though.
Look no further, unless of course the process of your head spinning elates you. Great buy, and it was delivered in a record 2days.
nice player,best i've had.......2007-08-27
Yep,this is the best CD walkman-style player I've owned.
It reproduces sound very well and is easier on battery life than the pevious player i had-(a JVC model). It is twice as light in weight as the JVC. I recommend it! The only con is that the battery compartment is accessible only thru opening the player up as if you were inserting a CD.
Yuu need to be careful to avoid touching the laser lens when inserting new batteries. I hope it lasts longer than my JVC did (which was about 1.5 yrs-it now won't read CD's.)
A perfect portable CD player.......2007-07-31
I had 2 portable CD players but I was looking for the best sound I could find. The Amazon reviews on this prodct sounded good...they were right. The sound quality is excellent, the controls convenient and it has plenty of volume. I use it with the Bose QC-2 headphones and the combination is like a portable concert hall.
Great Portable CD player.......2007-07-19
This is the first portable CD player I have ever owned, so I may not be the most experienced for reviewing, however, this is what I have found. The sound is great, head phones are comfortable. I use for listening to audio books.
Down side -- but certainly workable...batteries on inside, so you have to remove CD to replace (also they seem to run down faster than I expected).
Wish the buttons had the info in a color so they would be easier to read...I am a bit older and the tiny print, same color as background makes it hard to see...but you will quickly memorize, so again, no huge deal.
I would definately purchase again, unless there was another with improvements mentioned on my "down side" and the price wasn't significantly more.
Good, but some practical negatives to consider...........2007-07-12
I read some of the reviews for this product and I agree that it is a very good value for the price. It also has great sound, equalization and the ability to play MP3s. However, it does have some drawbacks to consider:
-- Very small buttons that are close together.
-- A battery compartment inside the player where the disc goes. This increase the probability of scratching or altering the position of the lens.
-- No radio, which isn't a problem for many people, but may be for some.
Overall, I think this product is very good and it is light weight. There are some claims that the batteries last significantly longer than other older models, but I haven't noticed this.
This set sounds particularly good with SR60 headphones. I have tested many combinations and this is a real winner. These headphones aren't necessarily pretty, but the sound/price ration is terrific. They are not good headphones for athletic activities, just for very PURE enjoyment:

For the money you can't go wrong!!!!.......2007-09-19
I bought this for my sister who is in a nursing home. Her mobility is very limited. So the light weight is an advantage. She uses it for audio books and it works GREAT. Whenever I visit her it's on her bed with the latest novel beside it. The buttons were a tad tricky ... but she mastered them on day one ...no skipping and the sound is wonderful ...
Cool looking and works.......2007-09-13
I would have loved to have found my older model version with the buttons on the face but it wasn't available. this model plays smooth, looks cool and I'm still getting used to the tiny buttons on its side. So far, it plays great.
CD Player.......2007-09-03
I read the reviews saying the buttons were too small. And yes they are too small. I have to pick up the player while I'm on the treadmill and hold it close so I can see which button I'm supposed to push. Other than that it's great. The headphones are comfortable and it was priced right.
portable cd player.......2007-08-31
The player works fine but the headphones are very uncomfortable - too narrow and tight. I'm going to radio shack and buy some comfortable ones.
panasonic cd player.......2007-08-31
I am satisfied with this product, except for the headphones which are uncomfortable and clunky in appearance.

Panasonic RF-SW50 Shockwave Portable Radio .......2007-09-04
This is the third radio I've had. It gets good reception and is easy to use. I tend to be rough on the radios I've had and they last well. The previous two eventially begin to turn themselves off. I tried a similar Sony radio and the static and hiss were unbearable.
I would recommend this radio.
It's alright.......2007-08-29
I think it is way too expensive for just a radio. i bought it 3 years ago to go running. this was before mp3 players were getting popular. I ran with it and it lasted and I think it still works but honestly for just a radio it is not worth it. I still have scars on my arm from the armband and it was a lot bigger than it looked online.
Radio is nice - but was expecting more.......2007-01-11
This radio is nice. The buttons are easy to use, only uses one battery, shows battery status, but I was expecting better reception of hard to receive stations which I don't find to be the case. My mom however lives in Toronto where stations often overlap and she finds it works excellent for separating close frequencies. She owns two.
Panasonic portable FM/AM Radio.......2007-01-04
This was a great purchase. This product has a good sound is of good quality and is perfect for walking or doing chores around the house.I'm so glad I purchased it!
Save Your Time and Effort.......2006-10-11
I'm always out in the car listening to a good radio show when I get home and want to continue listening. I searched the internet for a portable radio within my means and found this. From the reviews I read it seemed like a reasonable choice. Well don't waste your time. Even with digital tuning I got so much static I could not enjoy listening to the program. I also tried switching to city mode. You could twist the radio around for better reception but it still not give you anything static free.

The Panasonic SL-SV590 Portable CD Player lets you take a personal spundtrack wherever you go. Enjoy your music even on those bumpy rides, with the anti-skip system. Audio always sounds perfect with D.SOUND technology, S-XBS and D-AGC sound. Remastering for MP3 sound H.Bass (Harmonized Bass) for dynamic bass sound Playback Time - Up to 75 hours MP3; up to 33 hours CD-DA Included D.SOUND headphones Sleek, round design Color - Blue with orange lid
Amazon.com Product Description
The Panasonic SL-SV590 Portable CD Player and Headphones uses advanced D.sound technology, which is comprised of four components that work together to elevate your audio experience. A digital amplifier helps reduce distortion and also helps you achieve crystal-clear sound, even at higher volume levels. The S-XBS and Digital Audio Gain Control help to improve bass response at higher volume levels, and MP3 Re-Master technology allows you to receive outstanding sound quality from compressed music files such as MP3 and WMA.
Without H.Bass (Harmonized Bass), headphones and compact speakers cannot reproduce some of the bass sound components that are included in music. Panasonic's H.Bass technology reproduces the harmonic series of bass components. This provides the sensation of a fuller bass sound that cannot actually be reproduced with headphones and compact speakers.
MP3 is the most popular and widely used digital audio compression format available today. Since MP3 files are so small, you can burn a library of music onto CD-R/RWs and play them back on your SL-SV590 Portable CD player. The SL-SV590 also has a built-in digital tuner that allows you to tune into your favorite FM radio stations, and the no-skip/anti-skip system helps provide continuous listening by reducing or eliminating CD skipping during most active uses. It even has a backup memory feature that helps provide further assurance of a skip-free listening experience.

Skips and a poor design.......2007-08-29
This is an adequate player, but it skips easily and the control buttons are tiny with illegible markings. A big disappointment.
Susan Edem from New York.......2007-08-06
I an very satisfied with this CD player. The best I ever had for a lon time. Thank you.
Very nice product.......2007-06-19
Just got it for my mom. It is a nice product. It plays regular as well as mp3 CDs just fine. The sound is very good for my taste even with the headphones that come with the product. My only complaint is that it is very hard to read the button labels. If they were marked with a different color they would be more distinguishable. Other than that it works really well.
Good for the price.......2007-06-09
Panasonic SL-SV590 good points:
- Reliable even when bumped or reading scratched CDs
- Can play standard CDs more than 30 hours on two AA cells
- 4 pre-set bass equalization settings (2 work with FM) and 2 pre-set "surround" settings (neither works with FM) may amuse restless youngsters
- Pause and resume setting is retained when powered off
- Station pre-sets are retained when battery is changed
- Relatively straightforward and self-evident control layout
- Plays MP3
- Good FM radio with stereo/mono and normal/city settings stores 20 frequencies in memory
- Hold switch
Possible deficiencies for some users:
- Typically mediocre headphones included
- "Flat" response claimed is +0.5, -7 dB @ 20-20kHz!! (Is this Panasonic's idea of a joke?)
- Raspy distortion of voice and brass (typical McDigital sound) is evident even with best ("flat") settings when using excellent Sony MDR-V6 headphones
- No AM radio
- No MP3 encoding software is included (but thankfully none of Sony's buggy proprietary ATRAC spyware is included either)
- Can't play WMA despite Amazon description
- No power or line jacks
- Battery change is awkward
- Controls and screen are tiny and nearly illegible
- Lid opens very easily when edge is bumped
- Button volume controls (typical of today's products but inconvenient compared to wheel)
- Looks and feels cheap
In summary, this is a good modern product of its type for the price, and there may currently be none better at its price, but its deficiencies may lead some buyers to seek older better machines.
Good sound, good alternative MP3 player........2007-04-27
Nice little CD player. It has four different bass settings. It also can remaster your MP3's to make them sound more full. The sound is not too bright and more neutral. The included headphones are nothing to brag about but most free headphones are like that. The battery life is excellent. The FM is also excellent. Overall, a good choice.
Average customer rating:

Customer Reviews:
Never buy used!.......2007-01-05
I thought I was buying a new player but received a refurbished set. There was battery corrosion in the terminals and the buttons were so warn they were impossible to read. The unit worked sporadically, for a short time, then not at all. I apparently missed the 30-day return policy so they are being recycled. I have other Panasonic players that I enjoy and have been durable. I suspect that quality is not consistent across company lines due to using multiple manufacturers.
Good but..........2006-11-30
...a little pricey compared to the more bare-bones CT480 model, though the sound quality is about the same if not a little inferior due to the 480's big bulky and ugly but very nice-sounding headphones.
The main advantage of of this model is the cool silver looks and the external battery pack which is a pain to lug around but would come in handy for example during a long plane trip. If you don't need the extra bells and whistles, I'd recommend getting the 480.
The digital amp technology however really does provide stellar sound quality compared to comparably priced portable CD players, in fact it was better than my sister's $80 Sony. It looks like Panasonic has taken some of the technology from its incredible sa-xr55/57 home audio receivers and put it into the portable CD scale...thank you, Panasonic!!!
awkward to use.......2006-11-03
This is a middle of the road CD/MP3 player. I purchased this player for my gym workouts, and it's been a little dissapointing. I will start off by saying that the sound is great, cd's don't skip, no problems with performance. My complaint is really with the design. The battery unit, in an exterior case, makes the player awkward to put on a treadmill or epilitical trainer, frequently causing the player to fall. The controls on the player are on the side, and very difficult to read. The player does have a digital read-out along with the MP3, but you really can't read it during a work-out because it's attached to your clothing. The other problem I've had is interchanging headphones. Most are not compatible with the MP3 player, and without that MP3/digital read out plug in, the player doesn't work.
Descent product but poor support and availability of accessories.......2006-08-15
I have been searching for the rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery HHR-4AGA/2B that Panasonic recommends in the user manual for the past 2 weeks. This battery is not available in stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Radioshack...how does Panasonic expect people to get replacements.
I called Panasonic today and the person I talked to said they dont understand what the part number was!! What a joke! Finally they were able to give me a price $9.00+ shipping (probably more than the battery)+ tax....I think this is a big rip off.
Personally I'm thinking of replacing this product. Doesnt make sense to buy something and have to spend a forture on non-rechargeable batteries. I dont have much of a choice with rechargeables..because other than the HHR-4AGA/2B nothing will charge in this system.
Wont recommend people to buy it...unless you are willing to spend extra money on a separate charger + batteries.
great product.......2006-03-29
I like this item, fits in all my OLD Navy jeans, easy to carry, the extra battery is a plus. the only thing I see not so great is the fact that it does not display the name of the songs, like other MP3 players... If you are thinking about it... I would ahve to say it is worth it!

Measuring just under an inch thick and weighing less than half a pound, the Panasonic SL-SV590W personal CD player is a great fit whether you're working out at the gym, commuting on the train, or listening at home in the bedroom. The cover boasts a sleek white finish that's complemented by the pair of matching headphones, which sport a white headband of their own. More significantly, the unit plays more than just prerecorded CDs, with compatibility for both CD-R/RW discs and compressed MP3 files burned onto a CD-R/RW. The expanded playback options give users access to far more of their digital music library each time they leave the house. Active users will also appreciate the anti-skip protection and its related backup memory function, which combine to ensure a disruption-free listening experience whether you're driving or jogging.
At the core of the SL-SV590W's audio performance is Panasonic's advanced D.sound technology, which comprises four main components: a digital amplifier that reduces distortion for a clearer overall sound; the bass-enhancing capacity of S-XBS super bass boost and the digital audio gain control; and an MP3 remastering function that restores much of the lost fidelity of compressed MP3 audio files. The system also kicks up the bass performance inside your headphones with its H.Bass technology, which reproduces the harmonic series of bass components that traditionally vanish within smaller speaker drivers. H.Bass gives the listener the sensation of a fuller bass sound even though it doesn't actually exist.
Another nice feature is the SL-SV590's digital FM tuner, which lets you catch your favorite music, NPR, or public radio stations. Add in the unit's extra-long playback times--which extend up to 75 hours for MP3s and 33 hours for CDs on just two AA alkaline batteries (not included)--and you have a great CD player for long road trips or marathon workouts.

- Can't play WMA
- No power or line jacks
- Battery change is awkward
- Controls and screen are tiny and nearly illegible
- Lid opens very easily when edge is bumped
- Button volume controls (typical of today's products but inconvenient compared to wheel)
- Looks and feels cheap
In summary, this is a good modern product of its type for the price, and there may currently be none better at its price, but its deficiencies may lead some buyers to seek older better machines.

Nonfunctional after 1 year.......2007-09-11
This DVD player was well used in the ~13 months since purchase until suddenly "Error H03" was displayed on the screen and the player could not read the DVD. After looking into having it repaired, (cost being from $95-160, depending on what was found) we decided to purchase the LS80 ($155) as we had this model before and had no problems for over two years until our toddler son dropped it and it subsequently stopped working. After reading the reviews, I am not alone in having the "Error H03" message and a nonfunctional player after the 12 mo. warranty has expired. Note, there were similar reviews re: the LS82 ($180) model, which we considered as that battery life is 12 hours. Both the LS80 and LS91 have 6 hr battery lives.
Just like the DVD-LS90 and the H03.......2007-05-12
We have owned this dvd player for 13 months. We just got the H03 error; right on time according to other reviews. I would recommend looking at other players first or expect to repair this one after about a year.
Great product.......2007-05-09
I bought this for my wife for the airplane rides. She loves it. Our 5-year-old friend has used it several times. So, it's easy to use & works as designed. I used it on a recent plane trip and found that the adjustable screen was very useful. The 6 hour battery is great for the long trips. We're glad we bought it!
Good unit but...not region free.......2007-03-09
This DVD player is satisfactory: good quality, fair image, good sound, you can plug 2 earphones. However, I would not purchase this product again. And it will be my last Panasonic DVD player. Why? It is almost impossible to dezone Panasonic DVD players. With most other "big names" like Samsung, Pioneer, Sony, Philips, etc. you can very easily dezone your player, the instructions are found on the net. Not for Panasonic. The only way I found is to pay another 30 bucks and a special remote will be sent to you...
It works - Couldn't find a way to make it region free.......2007-03-06
The DVD player works fine. If I had to buy this player again, I would only buy one that's region-free. It's obvious that if you need a portable DVD player, you may go with it to other "regions" where you may buy or rent DVD's that may not work with this region-1-only player.

excellent radio.......2003-12-13
I feel tired turning the tuning wheel every time commercials come on, so I went out and bought this digital tuning radio with memory presets. Now I can jump between AM talk radios quickly. This makes exercise feel more enjoyable (time goes faster too).
RF-SW200 has great built quality, the metal case/preset button feels very solid, mine is made in Taiwan, that assures me it received better quality control than those made by other third world countries.
It's also a great office radio, I use a Sennheiser head phones and the FM stereo sounds amazingly clean (I only recommend XBS --panasonic's extra bass, with a lesser head phones).
One note on the tuning increments, it can be set as small as FM 0.05Mhz and AM 9kHz, it's clearly printed in the instructions :-)
Also there's a $20 rebate going on till end of Dec. 2003.
Good Radio except.......2003-10-15
Pros:
1. Good reception;
2. Light weight;
3. 20 Preset station;
Cons:
1. FM do not have STEREO/MONO switch;
2. Bad headphone;
3. No AM/FM auto search
My rating: 4
Finally found one that works!.......2002-12-13
My wife and I are avid runners and have been looking for a AM/FM radio unit that is small enough to use while running but not so small that you can't easily hold it in your hand. We don't like the strap on types, they never seem to stay in place, it's easier just to hold the unit in your hand so you can change the station and keep the wire to the headphones clear. In addition, I've tried and returned a few of these and this is the only one that actually works. It gets all of my favorite AM and FM stations clear enough to be useful while running. If you are not sure about which unit to buy I would give this one a try, it worked for me.
Great Radio!.......2002-03-04
I love this radio. It is great to use when working out, whether you actually use the arm band on your arm or to attach it to the machine you're using.
Positives: 10 FM Stations!!!! This was one of the few armband radios that I could actually find that would allow me to program more than 5 FM stations. It also allows for 10 AM stations, which I could never in a million years fill. Reception is good, features are good (Hold is feature that I like, that forces the radio to keep its settings no matter what buttons are pressed - keeps the radio from being accidentally turned on in a gym bag). The radio is lightweight and compact and batteries seem to last quite some time.
Negatives: Headphones are uncomfortable. No worries, I'll buy new ones. Reception is good but not great. If you're moving around, you sometimes lose reception a little too easily. Moving between preset bands (1 & 2) is a little difficult.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Panasonic Shockwave radio/cassette player is a small, durable portable with a digitally tuned FM/AM radio and cassette player. Made with the special Shockwave Metal design, the player has a durable aluminum body with floating construction, side rubber protector, and twist lock system. It's an ideal player for active outdoor lifestyles.
The RQ-SW99V uses the Brain Shaker Extreme Headphones featuring VMSS (Virtual Motion Sound System). The VMSS unit transforms bass signals into vibrations, enabling you to actually feel music signals that are not typically reproduced by headphones. The horizontal, back-of-the-neck headphones contain a three-key remote control--great for controlling the player while you're jogging or doing another active sport.
Panasonic has built many convenient features into this unit to make it easier and more enjoyable to operate, even while working out. For example, full-logic, auto-reverse playback plays the other side of your tape with just the touch of a button. Three-track TPS automatically locates selections on your tape, a digital synthesized tuner with five preset keys simplifies radio tuning (a normal/city FM reception selector ensures clear reception), and the large LCD display with battery checker shows tape or radio play and operation status. And you'll be able to take full advantage of the Brain Shaker headphones with the S-XBS Extra Bass System selection.
The RQ-SW99V comes with a carrying case, neck strap, and built-in hook for the strap to keep it out of your way. The one-battery operation system provides up to 28 hours of playback time with a single AA battery (depending upon playing conditions--battery not included).
The Panasonic RQ-SW99V Shockwave radio/cassette player comes with a one-year limited warranty.

The best portable tape player i had.......2002-05-24
I got this Panasonic player back in April of 2000. Up to today I hadn't have any problems. I dropped more than 100 times already and still work perfectly. One of the beauty of this player is the battery life with one AA it can play up to 28 hours. INCREIBLE BUT TRUE. If u want a player to last u a few years I recommend u to buy this one.

the earphhones hurt your ears. If your going to buy this product buy a different set of headphones. These heasphones aren't adjustable they don't fit right on your head and the piece that goes in your ear has no cushion so they are uncomfortable.

Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy your favorite movies wherever you roam with Panasonic's portable DVD-LS50 multiformat DVD player. Featuring a 7-inch screen, the 16:9 aspect ratio DVD-LS50 enables you to watch movies in widescreen format or conventional 4:3 formats such as letterbox and pan-and-scan. The LCD can be manually adjusted to a variety of different angles that can accommodate a wide range of viewing positions. The DVD-LS50 also features built-in stereo speakers, a rechargeable battery with a battery life of up to 3 hours, audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS, and a remote control.
In addition to DVD video discs, the DVD-LS50 is compatible with DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, video and audio CDs, MP3, WMA, and CD-R/-RW discs. It also supports HighMAT (High-Performance Media Access Technology), a technology codeveloped by Panasonic and Microsoft that improves the method of storing, arranging, and playing back digital photo, music, and video collections on recordable discs, such as DVD and CD recordable media.
With the high-speed, 5-step Smooth Motion Scan feature, you'll get crystal-clear forward and reverse scan at 100 times normal speed at its highest setting. The Cinema Mode function lessens glare, providing colors that are more cinemalike, and picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. It also improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast, and helps to suppress color smearing as well. The Dialogue Enhancer feature increases the center-channel volume relative to other channels, making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand.
The DVD-LS50 has 1 composite A/V out and a 3.5 mm headphone minijack. It offers advanced virtual surround sound, headphone surround sound, and optical digital audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound--making this road warrior a complete solution for your home theater as well.
Tech Talk
Dolby Digital: Digital audio compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories that provides the same 5.1 discrete channels of high-quality digital audio found in Dolby Digital cinema audio systems. Because all of the channel data are recorded discretely, Dolby Digital offers good channel separation and little sound deterioration due to the digital channel data processing. It conforms to 5.1-channel surround sound. The rear channel is stereo, and there is a discrete subwoofer channel.
DTS: Digital audio compression technology developed by Digital Theater Systems that conforms to 5.1-channel surround sound. The rear channel is stereo, and there is a discrete subwoofer channel.
What's in the Box
Panasonic DVD-LS50 portable DVD player, remote control, batteries for remote control, rechargeable battery, and AC adapter.
Customer Reviews:
Horrible - DO NOT BUY THESE.......2007-09-19
I purchased two of the LS50s for my two kids. Guess what, BOTH of them have died with H03 or sometimes H02 errors. The "fixes" posted here worked for a short time, then both machines died again with the same errors. Both of my kids are very careful with their electronics and are responsible kids. They have never had any other problems with other products. Panasonic will NEVER get business from me again. $700+ WASTED.
H03 Error--fixed!!.......2007-09-07
I bought the Panasonic DVD-LS55 (same as LS50 except it has an extended battery) in July 2004 and had been very happy with it up until July 2007, when I got the dreaded H03 Error while trying to play a movie for my 2 and 4 year olds on a delayed and then cancelled flight. I finally got around to calling a repair shop today to find out that it would take approx. 1 week and an average of $125 to fix it. Instead of spending the money, I opted to search online for suggestions on how to fix it myself.
I found H03 Warrior's posting and tried all that he suggested. I held the back skip, pause, and play buttons simultaneously...nothing. I opened up the unit and tried blowing on stuff and tested it...nothing. I removed a ribbon, tried to see if anything was lodged inside and replaced it...nothing. Finally, I manually moved the laser from left (all the way) until right (all the way), placed it back in and tested it...it worked!!!
Therefore, don't be so quick to throw out the DVD player or to send it to the repair shop. I will now include a tiny philips screwdriver in my DVD travel case in the event the dreaded H03 rears its head again. THANKS A TON H03 WARRIOR!!!
Sue M.

HO3 Error again on 2 players.......2007-03-07
We had gotten this item as a gift well it stopped working after less than a year and My mother sent us the same one again we used it once same thing happened H03 error code on both. Obviously there is a major problem if you read all the reviews alot of people have the same problem. We used the advise on here to fix it or the other alternitive was to take it in and pay $59 to have it looked, I think not on two you can buy a whole new system for that. We took the back of you unit off like previously stated in other people comments and moved the optic lens toward the center we just guessed and both units work now. Of course Panasonic won't tell you this because they can't make money off of fixing it. I would like to say i am not impressed with Panasonic they should of recalled this!!!
Mixed review.......2007-01-02
Had I written my review in the first year I owned my DVD player, I would have easily given it a five star rating; Excellent sound and picture and a decent battery life, interface and design. But after the dreaded "code: HO3 " error appeared while on a 5 hour cross country flight, and after reading others comments about Panasonic's utter lack of shame or assistance of any kind, I think a 3 star rating is generous.
Like others I had to crack open the player and essentially "reset" the optic eye to the center by turning the screw drive by hand. It immediately solved the problem (thanks a million to whoever offered this tip). What bothers me is that Panasonic must be aware of the problem and the simple fix that is necessary. Someone at Pana probably did a cost benefit analysis and decided a recall would be too expensive, and a lawyer of theirs probably said admitting there is a problem and explaining the simple fix to customers would lead to greater liability. Shame on Panasonic.
Buyer beware indeed
