The HP Jetdirect 175x is an external print server which allows you to turn your printer into a network device. It connects to supported printers via a USB port, in turn allowing you to connect a 10Base-T or 100Base-T network connection to the 175x print server. Additionally, the 175x has an embedded web-server which allows remote management via a web browser.

Setup is a snap, thanks to HP's Install Network Printer Wizard; and system administrators can use HP's Web Jetadmin to directly install, configure, and manage the print server. A wide range of networking protocols are supported, including peer-to-peer and client/server under TCP/IP, peer-to-peer under IPX/SPX, Apple EtherTalk, and LPD printing.

With the 175x, only the computer originating the print job needs to be turned on, so you can print from anywhere at anytime. The unit weighs just 3.9 ounces and also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

It works.. No problems.......2006-12-24

I have a 1200 HP LaserJet.. I wanted to put the printer on the net for a SOHO.. Put an ip on it configed snmp and connected the printer.. Worked like a champ.. I used the USB connector from the printer to the NIC.. One problems I have noticed.. Very Large PDF's take a long time to print "15MB PDF, 300 Pages, takes 2 hours".. I think it's the images.. Overall Buy it for a home network or small shop..

I did eventually get it to work with XP.......2005-02-07

I spent most of last night trying to get this thing to work and finally succeeded this morning.

I wanted my new JetDirect 175x (firmware 25.13) to work with a Win XP SP2 machine and an HP Deskjet 5550. Based on what I read in the HP support forum for the JD 175x, the issue was win XP with SP2. There were lots of complaints about SP2 and the solution was to uninstall SP2, which I did not want to do.

My JD did not respond to my router's DHCP serving, so I had to set up a fixed IP address. I had to go into the router setup to figure out what range of IP address the router was serving up and pick an IP outside of that range. By following the documentation that came with the JD 175x, I made some progress.

I could ping the JD no problem. I could use the web admin tool. I'm using the latest drivers from HP. The printer worked fine if connected directly to the USB port. The networked install went great and the printer even showed up on the list of printers with the correct IP address and it all looked good right up to the point where I tried to print a sample page, and then nothing. If I tried to print a document, the doc showed up in the queue, but the printer remained stoicly silent. The JD print server did not show up in my windows network neighborhood.

At this point I was ready to give up and buy the D-Link product which had received some good reviews. But I thought I'd check their support forum first. I ended up at the Quick-Install guide for the D-Link DP300U and read it. I noticed that it did something strange. Instead of configuring the device as a networked printer, it configured it as a local printer with a TCP/IP style port, and did a few other things, and bingo, my printer worked.

It doesn't work pefectly. The little toner-low graphic no long shows up and although it prints very quickly, it then spends some time doing some unseen activity after the printing is done.

So ... my suggestion is to read the install guides at D-Link to help you get this HP to work (See http://support.dlink.com/). Actually, I think I may return this and buy the D-Link device. They seem to have much better support, cost half as much as the JetDirect, have downloadable firmware, and in my opinion, they deserve my business.

Works Perfectly!.......2004-03-05

This product worked perfectly with my multi-function printer (LJ 3330). I can print and scan from all PCs. Anyone having trouble getting this to work may not have followed the proper instructions. There are separate instructions for multi-function devices. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because it's a tad pricy.

Useless for a multifunction printer.......2003-05-08

I bought this for use with an HP OfficeJet 6110, a multifunction scanner/printer, because it was the recommended device for putting the printer on the network. However, after installing it, I found it doesn't support scanning or faxing using the multifunction printers - completely useless for the type of printer they recommend it for. Since HP doesn't seem to be able to make peripherals compatible with their own printers, you might as well just buy a cheaper alternative to start with.

A case with a screen cover is a must for any ipod, but it kind of defeats the purpose when it makes it next to impossible to read the screen itself. The case is rubber and knobby so its got great grip, it won't fall off a dashboard, but that also means that it attracts dust like crazy. So between that and the inevitable air bubbles on the screen cover it sort of negates the usefullness of the overall product.

While the rubber design fit my 4G 20GB very well, the screen was horrible. It is a thin plastic sheet which came scratched and fuzzy. When pressed against the iPod screen, air bubbles are trapped and the view of the display is very distorted. I would strongly recommend a case with a hard plastic screen over one like this.

I bought these radios, because of the first factor I had: They were inexpensive. I wasn't expecting much for the money I invested, but I was most definately surprised at the quality and value I recieved. I took them to "A popular resort park in Orlando" and experienced my first problem: FRS is a heavily shared frequency, and it was very hard to communicate with my party. I did have fun talking to other guests, though. My next trip was to the mountains. Here, they proved invaluable. Noone else was apparently using FRS in the area when we were there, and it was excellent for confirming rendezvous times and places. The range is superb. Somewhat surprising. My voice, and the person I am talking to can easily be heard sometimes up to a mile away over hill, dale, and wadi. The features are easy to use. My 5 year old has no problem using it (no, he dosen't go out alone). The page feature is good to have, as well. The size of the unit makes it easy to slip into purse or pocket, or attach to a belt with the clip. It is a breeze to use, and great fun to have. I will never regret buying mine, and I don't think you will either.

A nicely priced item that widens two-way communication........1999-09-23

I work at a university in California as a maintenance worker. My boss and I have to keep in touch in order to best meet the needs of our housing residents. Before we used the Cobra Micro Talk 1 we relied on our campus pager system. This was not an effective method since we had to find campus phones and wait until the other person responded to the page. With the Micro Talk 1 we are able to connect quickly and effectively. We can now communicate in seconds instead of minutes. The battery life is long because of the stand-bye feature, we have been able to use them for several weeks before the batteries run low. The only down side to the Micro Talk 1 is that we sometimes have to deal with other radio traffic because of the two-channel limitation.

This radio worked very well within the 1/2 mile range with very clear communication. 1/2 mile to 1 mile was broken but understandable. The main problem with this radio is that one of the two channels are probably being used by someone else due to the unusually strong sales of these radios. We usually were able to switch channels and get uninterrupted communication.

BIGtrack is the best mouse for kids!.......2004-07-15

I have been looking for this product ever since Microsoft took their EasyBall off the market. The new BIGtrack is awsome. I have my 4 year old and my 2 year old both using it and their accuracy is amazing. I just wish that someone would update the information on Amazon. This product has been updated to a USB connection and the name was changed to BIGtrack. I used it on a win and mac machine and it is just plug and play.

My 2 year old son, for whom I bought this device, can't properly use it. I believe that this problem stems from both the track ball's design for small hands and with his lack of patience.

The design does not allow someone to "accidentally" push the mouse's buttons. So, the user must make a concerted effort to press the button, which takes about the same amount of effort as flushing a toilet. As the distance between the track-ball and the mouse buttons is so great and the required effort so large, my child must lift his hand from the track-ball to press the mouse's buttons. And, in doing so, he generally drags his arm over the button, which moves the pointer.

This might not be a disaster for an adult, but most educational games are mouse, and not keyboard, intensive. These games require that the user click on the letter, number, shape, etc... So, if the pointer moves off of the target, the game doesn't function.

So, in short, for adults, this trackball probably functions as it should. However, for kids, it doesn't meet requirements.

BTW- I think that I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 for this mouse, not the $40 listed in amazon for the Crayola model.

I know others have had difficulty with running on higher version OS, but I have my daughter's Crayola trackball running on Windows 2000 without any problem at all. The driver is irrelevant, just use the Microsoft driver for a regular 2 button mouse - it's that simple. Beyond that, I love the excellent precision you get with a trackball. My daughter started working on a computer when she was less than a year, and on a standard mouse it's hard to distinguish the buttons. Many of the smaller chid size mouses aren't very well made. Since all the younger child software is based almost solely on constant left mouse button clicking, we had one mouse before this and the left mouse button gave out in a very short amount of time, especially when the child is first learning and clicks too much. I have had this mouse for over a year now, and it's been nothing but great.

Buyer beware: This product doesn't support anything past Win 95 or Win 98, maybe even ME (not sure about the latter -- doesn't say anything on the box). Checking their driver site, they don't have any drivers online either, and don't seem interested in producing any (at least based on the silence).

I have to say, it was a disappointment to me that they aren't supporting anything more modern.
