DVDs look great on standard and high-definition (HD) televisions, thanks to the RP62S's multiple video outputs--crowned by its stunning progressive-scan video output when used with an HD or HD-ready set. Whether you currently have HDTV capabilities or you're merely thinking of "someday," the RP62S stands ready to deliver. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Other features include Cinema Mode, which cuts down glare and improves color resolution in a darkened living room; Quick Replay, which jumps back seven to 10 seconds; variable zoom, which converts any widescreen image to full screen on a 4:3 aspect-ratio TV (eliminating the black bands at the top and bottom of the screen); and high-speed smooth scan.

The RP62S is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 or WMA (Windows Media) audio files. The player even offers an onscreen audio navigation menu for searching for MP3 and WMA files (and it works with CD-Rs that feature multisession recordings). A 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimal decoding of all disc formats except high-resolution DVD-Audio.

The RP62S is also equipped with an optical digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to your Dolby Digital-decoding or DTS-decoding AV receiver, as well as a dedicated subwoofer output to let you enjoy those dinosaur stomps and timpani rolls to the fullest with but one additional speaker (see all subwoofers). If your subwoofer is hooked up to the player's dedicated subwoofer output, Bass Plus jacks up the low end.

To further round out the stereo experience, Advanced Surround (V.S.S.) simulates surround-sound effects using only two speakers, dynamic range compression limits the peak levels of Dolby Digital-encoded programs (found on most DVDs), and the Dialogue Enhancer increases the relative volume of the center channel, making center-channel content easier to hear.

For connections, you get the works: standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs. The latter, of course, can be switched to deliver either 480i or 480p (progressive-scan) video. A single optical digital-audio output channels stereo and multichannel surround signals to your receiver, and the player also has a single set of stereo RCA analog audio outputs.

I got the HO7 error code too -- supposedly means the motor has a problem. I've had this DVD player for about 4 years. I expect them to last longer than that. Also, I'm sick of the machine's delayed DVD eject -- you have to wait like 5 seconds for the DVD to eject after you push the button.

Yes, my Panasonic DVD player just died today (3/9/06) after a long and illustrious life of 1 1/2 years. I would not call that durable. It did well while it worked, but it's gone now!

HO7.......2005-06-13

I was pleased with a friend of mine that got a Panasonic DVD player. I bought this player brand new. The manufacture is Sept. of 2002. I think I got it between Thanksgiving and Christmas that year. I liked it to some degree. However agreed with others that the buttons are small and hard to find. It was about 6 months ago that I started noticing the picture was not as sharp as it was. The moving pictures would get "lines" in them like it was interference or something. This was very noticeable when I would pause, FF, RW, or stop the movie. It was like it was having trouble "tracking" the object(s) on the screen. I have a brand new digital big screen TV so I know that was not the problem. Then just tonight I was watching a movie and it just stopped. I hit the eject button and nothing would happen. I then had to turn the unit off and then back on. It was not overheating or hot to the touch. It kept seeing error H07. I followed the instructions to how to clear the issue up and that did not help. Now I am in the market, even more so, for another DVD player. After reading all the other reviews on the H07 error that others are getting, I am to know I am not the only one with that issue. It might be just a matter of time before the other DVD players would come up with the same problem. Maybe they would not do that at all. I know that I am not the only one that got a defective DVD player after three years it died. I will have my funeral for it and go replace it ASAP. I do not think that I would get another of this brand however.

My worked great for a little over a year, then I got an H07 error. I will definetely NOT be buying another panosonic DVD player.

Stay away from this machine. The minute you get the "HO7" error, you will regret ever spending a penny on it. I need to buy a new player now, at a time I can least afford it!

I always seem to have speakers coming and going. I'm always picking up these or those and trying them out. I did the same with these Fluance speakers and have found them to be pretty decent. Mine came well packed and seem very solidly built. After being used for several days throughout the volume spectrum, I'm reasonably impressed. Throw in the CHEAP price and you've got a deal that's tough to go wrong with. At moderate to high volumes, they sound pretty good. Clear, lots of imaging, decent depth, well balanced. Bass needs to be augmented with a sub for the full sonic effect, but that's not to say the bass is absent, it's just not room shaking. At lower levels, they seem to be a little more resistant, but overall, I'm very happy. I'll keep these for quite a while.

Really needs power to shine. Does not compare well to Infinity or Boston Acoustic, sensitivity is low and sounds rather dead, though there is a flat response, not overly colored.

Helpful hint for Grado headphones.......2007-03-28

I recently purchased the SR 80 headphones (they sound great!), not the 125's, but this may help buyers of this product who might be dismayed to see the 1/4" plug instead of the 1/8" on the end of the cord: The 1/4" end on my SR 80 cord was a threaded piece, and all I had to do was unscrew it to reveal the 1/8" connector for an MP3 player. So there was no need for an adapter. Give it a try with the 125's. That's all-hope this works for you.

Great Sound/Terrible Fit.......2007-03-26

These cans sound fantastic once you break them in (which can take a bit longer than with other phones, about 50-60 hours for me). Compared to a closed cup set such as the Sony MDR-V600, the sound of the Grados is much more aggressive. Excellent phones for Rock and Jazz, but a more laid back set (Sennheiser HD-500 series) would be better suited to classical. These cans have exceptional response, music with extremely fast attack and defeat sounds perfectly clear.

However, there is a caveat, unless you have an unusually shaped head, these will not feel comfortable. Personally, I think putting these phones on feels like strapping a medieval torture device to my head, that said, after a minute or so of the incredible sound, concerns about comfort melt away.

Overall, I highly recommend them, but some people simply can't get over the lack of comfort. If possible, find a pair of Grados and try them on (almost all models SR-60 through SR-325 are identical in fit and feel), if you can't stand them, look elsewhere. If they don't feel that bad, you'll probably get used to them.

note 1: these headphones have a 1/4" plug, not the more common 1/8" plug, you may need to find an adapter.

note 2: these are open phones, people around will hear what you are listening to, may not be the best choice for the office, a dorm room (unless you don't like your roomate), or some sort of covert stealth mission.

Excellent sound; not so excellent comfort.......2007-01-07

These headphones deliver excellent sound quality. The clarity and extended frequency response are hard to beat in this price range. But I am forced to give them only 4 stars due to comfort. I just can't wear these for 4 continuous hours without my ears hurting. For this much money, I expect them to be more comfortable out of the box.

I have tried one of Grado's older models that still has the flat ear pads (as opposed to the new bowl style), and I find them comfortable. I am planning to swap my ear pads for the older style. With this modification, I expect to be happy with wearing them for longer periods.

Extremely good.......2006-12-15

First and foremost as others have mentioned, hook these guys up to a stereo and run it for 12 - 24hrs to break them in before passing judgement on them. Vary the volume while you do this, start out low, then after a few hours go to a mid volume setting, then to a medium loud setting for the last few hours (Not loud enough to blow them mind you).
These headphones after the break in period are the clearest headphones you'll ever put on your head and I'll stand behind that statement-I'm an audiophile and have tried most every high end headphone in existence from Sony's V series to AKG to Beyerdynamic to Sennheiser.
However, I'm only giving them 4 stars for 2 reasons. They're not the most comfortable, at least not at first. The ear pads are stiff and to me smelled of petro chemical residue. I softened mine down the first day I had them by placing them in a sink with very warm water with a soy based fabric softener, I soaked em for 10 minutes all the while squeezing the water between them. The also are a bit light on the bass, if you want some of these that are perfect with just the right bass response, look one more notch up in the line for $50 more, the SR225's.
