Best PDA!.......2006-08-20
I am sad that Sony is no longer in the PDA business. This is one of the best PDAs of its time. I've had it for several years and still use it. It combines all the features I need, plus more. The keyboard is the main reason I purchased it- very easy to use and illuminates. I also love the ability to check email and surf the web, snap quick pictures, read files, and listen to music and audiobooks. The battery life is not the best, but there are lots of accessories and there is an extended battery. It comes loaded with applications and games. The screen is a nice size. I still get questions and compliments on it!
Hoorah for the UX50!!!.......2005-07-10
Finally, a handheld that offers everything built-in that is extra with most other handhelds! Surf the net, take a picture, and play games, as well as a built-in keyboard. I LOVE this Clie.
Very nice and beautiful clamshell look but some cons.......2005-02-25
PROS
1. It is a very nice look .
2. has very good features like a camera and can also rotate.
3. It also has both bluetooth and WIFI that is a good for people on the
go.
4. It now has a low price than 2 years ago.
5. will atract and impress many people
CONS
1. bad battery life (can buy extra battery . 3X longer also sold at amazon
very cheap.
2. limited applications
I think this is a very good p.e.o. and you shoud buy it if you like attention or really need it
Love mine, but there are some problems.......2005-02-17
I bought my UX-50 off eBay for about half the going rate of a refurbished new unit. Since I paid so little, I really don't have much to complain about. However, if I had paid $500 for a new-refurbished unit - or $800 for a brand-new unit when the UX-50s were first released - I probably would not have given a 4-star review.
Here are the positives:
- I don't understand why so many people complain about the UX-50 only having a "landscape" screen option. I got used to using the landscape screen in no time. There are third-party programs you can download to convert some applications to portrait mode if you want, but I really didn't feel the need. Granted, the landscape screen means there's a lot of wasted space on the touchscreen, but I didn't have any problems using the screen as-is. I also think the screen size is AWESOME considering the features packed into this little gadget.
- The functionality is, without a doubt, amazing. The UX-50 can replace your keychain digital camera, digital voice recorder, PDA, MP3 player AND you can check your e-mail with it! They managed to pack a lot of features into this little PDA.
- Sound on the MP3 player is great. I have a Sony VAIO laptop that has a built-in Memory Stick port so it's really easy for me to put a ton of music onto my 512 MB stick and have music wherever I go. I have a Nomad MP3 player but I rarely use it because the UX-50's MP3 player is so easy to use.
- The camera is great and takes good pictures in enough light. The zoom feature is neat.
- The PDA functionality is exactly what you'd expect - it works well. The UX-50 has enough internal memory for you to load lots of programs into it.
Negatives:
- It took me a lot of tinkering and research to get the 802.11B wireless feature to work. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the wireless connection software in most UX-50s, and if yours has the problem you have to download a special program, called Mobile Manager, to get it to work correctly. Not that Sony tells you this - I had to research it for myself on user bulletin boards. After a LOT of tweaking my wireless works - sometimes. The mobile browser, NetFront, won't load graphics-heavy pages and is quick to give "insufficient memory" and timeout errors. Unfortunately there's no way to upgrade NetFront 3.0, which came with the UX-50, to NetFront 3.1.
- Battery life truly does suck. I solved this by purchasing a third-party manufactured case and car kit off of eBay - the case has a USB port integrated, so now I can plug the USB sync cable into the case's port and charge my Clie. The car kit consists of a USB cable and an adapter that fits my car's cigarette lighter. Now I can charge wherever I go, which helps greatly with the battery life issue. And I don't have to use the stupid "charging sled" to do it. Which brings me to my next point...
- I would really like to know why Sony made a PDA that you can't charge with a USB cable. It seems ridiculous to me. Before I found the USB-port case I had to lug the stupid charger and sled around with me. The charger is bulky and the sled makes the UX-50 too thick to fit in a pocket or small purse. As it is, now I can't plug the UX-50 in and let it charge while I sync it throughout my workday, which is always what I've done with other PDAs. This was a really dumb design idea.
- The only other negative thing is that some parts of the UX-50 feel flimsy - I often feel like I am going to break the screen off rotating it back and forth, and the USB sync port has a small cover that feels like it could rip off at any time.
Overall, though, this is a great productivity tool and very nifty to carry around. It has a considerable "cool factor" and there's great functionality to boot. The negatives are bummers, but this thing is basically a mini laptop computer with a camera built in, so I don't expect everything to be perfect. I'm just bummed Sony's no longer going to be selling PDAs in the U.S. - hopefully they will change their minds before my UX-50 dies or becomes obsolete.
Attack of the Chimera PDA .......2004-11-20
Wow, what a device. I was impressed with this PDA on steriods from the moment I pulled it out of the box. Normally I am dissapointed when I purchase a new gadget. It either doesn't work as advertised or it is so convoluted that I excile it to the land of misfit toys. This PDA though comes through on all of its promised features. With a respectable digital photo, video and audio capability combined with 802.11 wireless, bluetooth, Infra Red as well as USB data interface capability, what more could a PDA require. To be fair and balanced, The UX-50 does have a few issues that detract from its status as PDA nirvana. One is its fragility. I feel like I am holding a delicate piece of bone china everytime I use it. Additionally, I am very dissapointed in Sony and their decision to get out of the PDA business, and just when they seemed to get it.

Sony Clie PEG-SJ22.......2007-05-27
This works very well for basic organizational needs: address book, calendar, etc. Go with a pocket PC if you are interested in word / data files. This does have it, but it uses too much memory. I ended up deleting those features so that I would have the memory for other functions. This does work well with e-books. I loaded several from the Franklin website onto the memory stick that fits into the handheld. In that way I can have an English-Spanish Spanish-English dictionary at my fingertips. I also have a Dictionary, Thesaurus, and World History on the memory stick. I have many other books on another memory stick. The color screen displays pictures via PG Pocket well. It does not have it's own camera.
This is a very simple handheld. I purchased mine years ago from Circuit City. After that, I found that the Sony Clie is no longer available in this country through conventional stores (although, is available online, obviously). The SonyStyle.com website offers other, more up to date versions.
It seems the technology at this point is moving towards PDAs combined with phones or Pocket PCs / GPS combined with bluetooth, cameras, and as many other items as you can fit on it.
Excellent PDA for your basic everyday needs........2006-10-31
I'm very satisfied with my Sony Clie SJ22, which I've owned now for nearly a year. While this PDA doesn't come with all the fancy features found in today's more sophisticated units, the SJ22 is a classy PDA that provides exceptional functionality and it should satisfy any user with basic needs.
The Jog Dial on the SJ22 is a very nifty feature that adds to the sleekness of this device, making navigation a breeze and something that's even enjoyable. But perhaps the SJ22's greatest asset is its brilliantly sharp 320x320 color display. Even today, this unit's exceptional display quality puts to shame many of the newer, pricier and more sophisticated PDAs currently on the market.
In terms of included software, Sony hasn't been as generous with the SJ22 as with its other models. But several applications have been included for creating and playing videos and for viewing photos. And a convenient, full-featured alarm clock is also included with this model. Unfortunately, the SJ22 doesn't come with the excellent Documents To Go software, which allows you to use your PDA to work with Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF). It would have been nice to have Documents To Go, but this application can be purchased separately for about $30 (USD).
The SJ22 handles tasks quite well for a PDA powered by Palm OS 4.1. This device is reliable and won't let you down. Aesthetically, the unit looks and feels great, and sports a user-friendly design with buttons and controls that are well placed, well sized and easy to use. In terms of size, this unit closely resembles a deck of cards: it's slightly larger but just as thick. Moreover, it's not at all heavy and can easily fit in a pocket.
Because the SJ22 is an older model that has been discontinued by Sony, these days it's nearly impossible to find it new--or even find it at all--in electronics stores (some stores may still have refurbished models in stock). But if you're interested in acquiring the SJ22, you can shop for it on eBay -- that's where I bought mine, brand new, at an amazingly low price of $75 USD (the unit I bought was in mint condition, used only once by the previous owner). You can also visit the Amazon Marketplace, where you might be able to purchase one at a good price.
For my basic needs, the SJ22 is a great little PDA that does the job exceptionally well -- it's simply a pleasure to use. I chose this unit because it's among the best (if not THE best) in its class, and I really don't have a need for a high-end PDA that comes with tons of bells and whistles, such as the ability to surf the Web. You can find many other more expensive PDAs that will give you all that, but the SJ22 is not one of those devices.
If you're looking for an excellent, dependable PDA for basic everyday use, the SJ22 would make an excellent choice. I think you'll really enjoy this wonderful and easy-to-use Sony device.
Some durability issues, but still a fair device.......2006-07-14
At the time this device was new, it was ahead of the game, pricewise and technology wise. Then palm came out with the 505, and now the palm 5.0 software and sony got out of the market quickly after only about 3 years. I have had this handheld for a little over 2 years now, and it has done it's work. It does have a nice bright color display, decent for display of a picture in the photo gallary. It has the capability to run some programs from the memory stick, although I do not recommend getting a memory stick abouve 32mb becuase it takes forever to access programs on my 128mb card, often to were the handheld shuts off before I can open the program. Also, the charger for the battery tends to wear out after a couple years, so the handheld will look like it's charging, but not charge at all. My office had bought about 20 of these, and a few have had problem with Infrared beaming, and mine the on/off button does not work. Unfortunately, these were referbished models at the time, so who knows if the durability issue it the model or the referbished. I do know some people with the fancier models that have had better long term luck. Finally, this handheld has limited internal memory compaired to new models (16mb), this can be difficult to update some applications on (epocrates for one). If their is an online update, I often find myself having to manually erase some of the old files on the handheld to free up enough space for it to accept the updated program. But, for the time it came out, it was king. This item would be good for someone who wants a electronic calendar/datebook, also to carry a couple of pictures with them, but the business professional sould look towards the newer technology.
No Handwriting pad.......2006-05-29
I switched over to the SJ22 after several problems with my Palm III. Palm support gave me grief on replacing it and finally it just died. Only had it 4 months. Warranty was 90 days. So I purchase this Clie. I love it. It has been dependable and and the battery life has improved with age. Hard to believe but it did. The first 6 months I had to charge often. Once I lost all data, because I didn't charge each night. I even purchased a car charger in order to use it on the go. Now It stays charged for 3 days and never gone below 50% and I rarely use the car charger.
The down side? I wish it had more memory. Currently I am researching newer PDA, but still haven't found one that will do the job I feel this has. I was seriously thinking of a clie PEG-NX73V. But now discontinued this leaves me stumped. As a Palm is out of the question.
Very satisfied.......2005-12-15
I have had one of these for two years and it has been flawless. I use it for managing my life, not for viewing films or pictures. I have no need to receive e-mail or view the web from my PDA.

Still doing its job after 3 years!.......2006-08-16
I have carried this PDA in my front pocket for three years. After numerous collisions with furniture and such, it still works as new. The metal case and folding design keep me from replacing this with a newer PDA. My only complaint would be the lack of Mac support.
Long-term fan of CLIE NX70V.......2005-08-06
I just had to put in a good word for this product. I've had it for 2 and a half years and it keeps me sane. I love all the bells and whistles that go along with it- i'm always able to keep busy during "downtime". From pic and vid capability, to the mp3 player (and voice recording), to email, to scheduling and various Palm related tools- this product has been well worth the investment!
I'm trying to hang in there as long as I can before I move on to the next model.
Good not Great.......2004-04-23
I think it's pointless to go on and on when writing a review so I'm gonna keep this short:
The Sony clie peg-nx70v is one wonderful piece of equipment.
I found that I extremely liked some of it's features like the compact design with the rotating screen, the thumb keyboard, the icon lay out, the camera/video recorder, and the voice recorder.
However, I rate it only good not great because of the annoying weight, how prone it is to being damaged, it's batery which tends to die rather quickly, and it's price.
Overall, I recomend the Sony clie peg-nx70v to most anybody!
me and my Clie.......2004-02-25
This thing has more buttons & bells than I'll ever use! I'm glad I bought a book "How to use Your Clie". The included paperwork doesn't begin to explain everything you can do. Screen display is sharp & clear. I like using Graffiti to enter data rather than the keyboard. (You have three entry methods to choose from.)
Great product.......2003-12-31
Unbelievable technology!!! Great sony software to improve the useability and increase the features available. Incredible leadership by Sony, very innovative. I purchased mine for $299 a display model at a local retailer, I had a 32 mb memory stick from a video camera I had, I have only had the CLIE for a few days but its wonderful, I have not tried to sync it yet, for mac you need the program the Missing Sync for 30$ you can download it I haven't yet, but I have read good reviews and it seems like a solid program.
No complaints, it seems that something like this should costat least $1500. The software that Sony provides for it is excellent Bravo Sony!!! I purchased the Zire 71 which is also an excellent product at a great price around $249, but if you can get the Sony for anywhere close to $369 or more its still a great deal.

Amazon.com Review
Sony's PEG-TG50 Clié is a bit of a maverick in terms of its hardware design which incorporates a rather solid flip-up lid which protects the screen and a tiny keyboard.
The PEG-TG50 runs Palm OS version 5, and has Bluetooth built in. The processor is a nice fast 200MHz Intel PXA 250, and 11MB of the 16MB of RAM on board is available. There is a Memory Stick slot if you need more. The screen offers a resolution of 320 x 320 and is square rather than the more usual rectangular shape we've seen in other Cliés with a clamshell type design. The keyboard is small so you'll need to use the stylus or a fingernail to make the most of it, and entering text is pretty slow. Though on the plus side, an orange backlight provides illumination when you press a key, which could come in very handy in dark situations. There is a Graffiti area which is software driven so you can use this for text input instead of the keyboard.
Among the huge amount of software Sony provides pre-installed is a voicenotes tool so you can record memos to yourself, Sony's own music player which can cope with both MP3 and ATRAC3, and the superb Picsel viewer for looking at documents and images in a range of popular formats such as HTML, PDF, Microsoft Word, and JPG. If you are a user of either Sony's DSC-FX77 Cybershot or DCR-TRV80 Handycam then you can remotely control these TG50.
The hardware design makes this PDA a lot thinner than other `flip lidded' Cliés, which means it should fit more easily into the average pocket, though it isn't especially light, and it lacks the digital camera that other flip lidded Cliés offer. Still it does have something of a personality, being pretty unique in the looks department. --Sandra Vogel

Customer Reviews:
Had this since 2003!.......2007-04-14
Ive owned this Sony Clie PEG-TG50 PDA (Personal Entertainment Organizer, Sony calls it) since 2003 and since then I have been using it as my main personal digital assistant. Its technology is rather antiquated by today's standards but it is so reliable and durable that I could not let go of it. It has never had a system problem, its battery is about 90% its original potential, it syncs even faster and smoother than my wife's TX, and it has survived more drops than I can think of. The way it runs its applications are so intelligent and as intuitive as today's (2007) offerings. Even its construction oozes good quality. I use this Clie mainly as an organizer and information notebook, and for these purposes I do not need a new PDA.
I love my Clie, but XP doesn't.......2005-11-02
I have had a pda since the early '90's..Casio Boss to all the early palms, but I love my tg50. The keyboard is great..grafitti is slow and hard to learn, especially numerals. You definitely need a memory stick and a sturdy case.
I have sent mine in for repairs twice: once for a cracked screen and the second for loss of backlighting. Each reapir cost $138 and I conducted all communications via their website. I just lost the backlighting again and I am going to have to make a tough decision. another $138 doesn't make sense...especially since the XP version of Outlook doesn't sync to it. You have to buy Intellisync ($50) to make it work.
Although the tg50 has a number of great features, I think my next purchase will be a pocket pc.
Buy one on ebay and don't get too attached.
Not the best handheld, but it is still my choice........2005-04-25
The TG50 is not the best Clie, but it is my top choice. I bought it when it first came out, and I broke the motherboard by having it in my bag. I loved it so much I ordered another one on ebay for $110.
TG 50.......2004-12-09
I got my tg50 from ebay, you all should. It retails for about $300, I got a used one(that is great) for $97, less than I payed for my clie sj20 (b and w screen)
1- keyboard, gotta have it cause i hate graphiti
yah it takes a little getting used to but i like it (but it obviously doesn't compare to the one on the ux50)
2- Truely awesome crisp colorful screen
3-well thought out and overall fantastic design
4-very thin (1/2 inch thick)
5-OS 5
i previously had a sony sj20, which has a palm OS (no OS 5), so I am used to a palm pda, but that being this pda is extremely easy to use, I never looked at the manual, but figured out all the features anyway.
Neccessary accessories include
-a memory stick (64mb if just using for apps, 256 if you want to store a few songs(get these on ebay too, for about half price))
-a case, if you are getting a case that stays on it all the time(custom fit) which I recommend get the Bellagio one, its nice and it allows the pda to hotsync in a cradle while still in the case
Down and Out After One Year.......2004-08-19
What a nightmare. I had bought my Clie less than a year ago when it refused to stay on. After several tries to do a "hard boot" on it where I had to constantly restore y data from my back up I called what Sony loosely refers to as Customer Support.... What a misnomer. It took me approximately 10 days just to get a person on the phone that understood the problems with my Clie and agree to let me send it in for warranty repair. I found the Service Tech's rude and very hard to understand. I needed to repeat what the problem was with the unit several times and was told it wasn't under warranty. I had to prove to them the date of purchase...not a problem.
Once they got their hands on it they decided that it had physical damage that caused the problem. I had had an area on the screen that had faded for at least 1-2 months before the problems began on a unit I used several times a day. After 10 days they phoned me back to say it was physical damage and they needed $138.00 to cover the repair and shipment of my unit. After I had paid the ransom for the return of my Clie to me it took another 15-20 days of constant phone calls to get status of the repair. Once they stated it would be sent the next day and to call for a tracking number. Once that they were waiting for parts, then that it was in for exchange due to the fact they were unable to keep it booted. This was my initial problem. Finally have someone call back from Sony San Diego stating that they no longer made my model and want to send me a sub-standard unit to replace it. If I want them to replace mine with a like unit that had the equipment on it I once had I will have to give them another $60.00. They have little respect for their customers and have no qualms in using the old it was physical damage to make up for a poor warranty service. To this day I still have nothing resolved. I would give anything to have bought from any other company than Sony.

Product Description
The PEG-NX80V redefines the popular NX-Series CLIE handhelds with a new design, improved hardware features, and upgraded application software. Palm OS 5 and ARM-compliant 200 MHz CPU, provide enhanced overall performance and an exceptional multimedia experience. The built-in 1.3 Mega-pixel camera supports SXGA (1280 x 960) resolution for high quality still photos, and you can save JPEG images or MPEG4 motion video to Memory Stick media. The "Capture Light" provides additional light to help take pictures in places with low ambient light, and a Slow Shutter Mode is also useful in low light conditions. In bright sunlight conditions, the Neutral Density Filter will reduce the amount of light entering the camera lens. Designed for the CLIE Wireless LAN Card (PEGA-WL100/WL110, sold separately), the CompactFlash (Type-II) slot also provides limited support for CompactFlash Memory Cards as optional data storage. When the CompactFlash Slot is not needed, it can retract into the back of the unit, maintaining the slim profile. With the optional Wireless LAN Card equipped, you can check email, browse the web, and synchronize data wirelessly with your PC via wireless Local Area Network (LAN access point sold separately, and Internet Service Provider required). Three methods of text entry are provided to give you maximum flexibility. In addition to the built-in QWERTY layout keyboard and standard Graffiti method of entering text, the PEG-NX80V also features Decuma Input Handwriting Recognition Software, which converts your natural handwriting into text. Use the text entry method that's easiest for you. The PEG-NX80V includes a built-in MP3 player and stereo headphones. You can listen to music on the handheld while using other applications or with the screen turned off to conserve battery life. The built-in Voice Recorder lets you take notes even if only one hand is free, and the adjustable microphone sensitivity helps keep voice recordings clear.

Best PDA (no longer) on the market.......2007-05-26
1.3MP camera takes excellent pictures too, however camera is prone to die before rest of PDA, so get newest one you can find.
Big screen, keyboard, clamshell, 1.3 mp camera, cool right?.......2005-06-25
There is no Bluetooth or WiFi built in. So be prepared to pay about $130 for the WiFi card (which takes the Compact Flash slot). The CF slot is a cool feature, and it being retractable saves space, but the slot can't close with a card in it. It doesn't look as good as my TG50, and the keyboard keys are way to flat and small. My fingers rub right over them. The screen is amazing. It looks so crisp and clear. You can see it outside with no problem. The camera looks very good outside also. It looks like it is 3mp sometimes. The "Capture Light" is more like a flash light, and I use it for that :). The IR port is in a bad place, half is on the side, half on the top. It is annoying when using Clie remote, which allows you to control TVs, VCRs, DVD players, and amps from a variety of brands. The jog dial is cool, and it is better than the 5-way navigator on this size device. The size of this Clie is annoying. It is 8 ounces! 3 ounces bigger than my TG50.
One of the best PDAs in the market.......2005-04-08
I've been using my Sony Clie NX80V since a year, and is still impressive the performance of this palm... the swivel screen allows you to use this like a normal PDA or like a laptop, an even better with its small keyboard, convenient for thumb fingers or small hands. I also found amazing the dual (CF and MemoryStick) card reader, and if you buy the WiFi CF card for Clie, you can do everything with this handheld. Besides, it has a lot of convenient software, like the Picsel viewer and NetFront browser. The only software I added is DocumentsToGo, and I can edit my .doc and .xls files (even simple PowerPoint presentations), and still view it in my PC when I plug my Clie to it. The screen is huge, brillant with its wonderful shrinkable Graffiti area, that allows you to add direct access to many applications you use often. Finally the camera is really great (I haven't seen any PDA with a 1.3M pixels built-in camera... and fast), and Sony knows how to make it look beautiful, including the cradle, and the MP3 player sound great, and much better with the hand controller.
It's one of the best products I've ever used
Say Goodbye To Sony's US and European PDA Market.......2004-10-09
I love my Sony Clie, PEG NX80V. I bought it less than a year ago, and the resolution, screensize and vivid display still astound my associates. The performance is quick for PDAs made in 2003, and the product is still superior in technology when compared to most of todays sales. I have to complain that Sony stopped offering online updates (drivers, patches, etc) for this product less than 7 months after releasing it. Now, after current stocks run out, Sony will retreat to ASIA, where they are selling the latest PDA, it's really going to blow you away.
Compare Sony to Palm, and Sony comes in about equal. I recommend buying this product new or used, it has never let me down.
It's All About Accessories - The Good and the Bad.......2004-09-03
In today's world of electronic gadgets, there are two things that really are frustrating: 1) Once you buy an electronic gadget - it often is obsolete the next day; 2) You often need to get lots of accessories to get the most use of your gadget. On top of that, when you are ready to buy a replacement gadget to replace the one you want - all of the accessories you bought are suddenly no good. Thus, the dilemma I faced when my old Palm IIIc finally showed signs it was nearing the end of its life was what to buy. I had used my IIIc for 3 1/2 years. During this time, I had such accessories as a Leather Case, A Keyboard, and a Travel Charger. Now as I was viewing what Palm (today) had to offer, I discovered that those nice accessories I owned were suddenly no good because none of the new models that Palm offered were compatible with them. Not a happy camper. As I mention above, this isn't a Palm-specific problem, but a problem with consumer electronics - and something companies in the consumer electronics industry have completely taken advantage of the consumers.
Enter Sony's Clie PEG-NX80V - this is known as Sony's Personal Electronics Organizer. In addition to being a very impressive unit, it did seem to solve some of my immediate problems around accessories, but of-course introduced a new set of accessory problems I did not imagine.
First up the unit itself. It is a beautiful unit that will immediately make a great first impression. It is silver and basically looks like a mini tablet computer. For starters, the unit folds down into its own hard case - so I didn't need to buy any extra cases because this protected the screen (I keep mine in a Day Planner binder, but you still may want a leather cover to prevent case scratches). When you open the unit, you will see a screen and a keyboard - now it looks like a mini laptop. The Keyboard solved my dilemma of having to buy a keyboard (I use mine to enter sales data and really depend on a keyboard - this one works great). Now the cool feature is you can swivel the screen around and fold it back down on top of the keyboard into the traditional PDA view - now its just like a regular PDA. The PEG-NX80V package also comes with a beautiful looking USB cradle in which the back of the cradle is translucent. In addition, the AC Charger unplugs from the cradle and can be plugged into an plug adapter that connects to the unit - now you have your travel charger. Yes, the plug adapter is included. That solved my travel adapter problem (I take it on the road a lot). The unit also has a slot for expanding memory with a Sony Memory Stick or Compact Flash Card as well as connecting a wireless lan card.
There are some other impressive features with this unit. First up the stuff you get out of the box. The unit comes loaded with Palm OS 5. Sony also packages their own version of the Launcher Program - which looks very attractive. The Sony Launcher does get some getting used to, but I like it because it looks good. If you can't get used to it, you can switch to the traditional Palm OS launcher. There is a jog dial on the unit for making scrolling lists very easy. To write, the unit comes with Palm's Graffiti 2, but there is something better - the Decuma Input Handwriting Recognition Software. Decuma Input has a utility where you enter your handwriting and then the unit will recognize your writing. I found the change from standard Graffiti to Graffiti 2 a bit annoying. But Decuma Input is terrific and once you get used to it, you won't go back. The unit will allow you to switch between Decuma Input and Graffiti. The unit comes with an application that will turn your PDA into a Universal Remote Control to use with such devices as a TV, DVD, VCR, etc. Finally the unit comes with a built in voice memo recorder for recording quick voice memos, storing them in the unit and playing them back. Only thing disappointing is a very cheap styled stylus.
As for this being a Personal Electronics Organizer, it has some terrific features - but also some warnings. For starters it has a Built in 1.3 Megapixel Camera with a flash - its only 1.3 Megapixels, so it won't replace your digital camera. It's a nice feature and you can store pictures and do some cool things like put photos in your address book. Be warned - snapping a picture will consume a lot of power from your battery (especially with the flash) - more than you expect. Be also warned, you MUST have a Memory Stick to export/import pictures with your PC and Clie - thus another accessory. There also is a built in MP3 Player (the unit does come with headphones) and a Movie Camera as well. Using the MP3 unit and Movie Camera does require the Use of a Memory Stick - thus this becomes another "required" accessory. The Data Backup Program does also require the Memory Stick. From looking at the specs, it isn't intuitive you need the Memory Stick for these features.
While this is a great unit and it did solve my accessory problems, it created a whole new set of others (namely with the Memory Stick). It is also worth noting to get the Wireless LAN for internet access is a costly accessory as well. However the unit is still very impressive looking and works terrific. Price out what accessories you want and need - then shop carefully. Your bet is to try to get it on sale or for a rebate though to get the most for your money.

Customer Reviews:
good pda.......2004-12-11
i doubt anyone will even ever read this as sony has pulled out of the market, but this is a really solid pda. i need a new one b/c the screen is messed up from dropping it too many times (i am really hard on it). i have really enjoyed it though. as long as i am replacing it, i want a faster processor. 66 Mhz is a lot faster than the original palms, and faster than most folks need...but i run some medical software on mine that utilizes every ounce of speed. if you are just a regular user, or relatively new to pdas, you won't be disappointed in this one! be sure to get the cradle that comes with it as it is pretty cool.
Awesome hanheld.......2004-05-05
Awesome palm pilot, great for almost any thing, games, camera, movies. Definetly worth the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best all around PDA out there.......2004-01-13
This has been one of the better electronics purschases I've made. Memory is great, full of features (MP3 audio is great), no stupid thumb keyboard. I've thought of upgrading just because, but despite being two years old, no other PDA on the market is as functional as the T-665C. The only drawback - no way to add a WiFi card. COme on SOny! Build it, and they will come!
awesome PDA/ Entertainment Organizer/ what-have-you.......2003-12-27
Great buy. I got it for cheap and use it primarily as a MP3 player, and to read news and ebooks. If you plan to do all that, be ready to shell out another $65-70 bucks for a 256MB Memory stick otherwise it doesn't play MP3s. I didn't buy the obscenely expensive MS Pro (white ones) and I use a freely downloadable ripper (CDex) to rip my music CDs to MP3s. You have to make sure that copyright stuff isn't included in your MP3s b/c they won't play. Some weird Sony thing.
Build quality is super and its sexy as hell (its a Sony). The bundled audio player is pretty basic though and you can't do anything except turn bass on and off. I have yet to come across a better one, and if I do, I would install it promptly. SonicStage software for your PC is utterly useless, as is the Sony's ATRAC format for song compression (I hope someone from Sony reads this... why? why? why??). Most of the software that comes on the CD are trial versions, but there are plenty of great software (and free too) to download from a bunch of Palm sites. But know that the number of Clie-specific software is much less than Palm (Zire/Tungsten)-specific software.
The scroll button in the front of the Clie is too small for anyone to use (as you might have gathered from all other reviews), but Sony makes up for it with the very useful jog dial and back button on the side. I find the screen too slick, so I've put a high quality screen protector (highly recommended... but that's 10 bucks more) and can also comfortably use my finger as a stylus over it sometimes. I've heard people complain of battery life. But that is to be expected of a device so thin and light and having a great color display. If you're going on a long trip listening to music, don't use the Clie to read stuff at the same time and u can squeeze out 6 hours on a full charge (use the Hold button). If you don't use the backlight, the battery life between charges, even while playing MP3s, is very respectable.
I would also recommend getting a hard aluminum case (~$25...ouch) if you're a rough user and plan to bump your Clie on different surfaces. Feel free to contact me with any Clie PEG-T665C questions, at ospexy1@yahoo.com
Cheers and have a great 2004
Could be the Most Beautiful PDA there is!!.......2003-12-15
I got this unit about 2 months ago at an excellent price ($149.00 new). I purchased it at a navy military Exchange store in Mountain View, Ca. Meaning the price that I got it for was exactly $149 because of the no tax policy. I've owned palm pilots before (Palm m105, Palm m130, then Palm 550) I wanted to go different ways but still get the excellence of Palm OS. So I saw this at the store (and for your info this is regular price at any military place from now on) and I got it.
I love this PDA it does everything that you want...personal assitant and entertainment! The look is sleek and matches its weight appropriately.
Some tips and add-ons to make it even better than it is:
1. Add Kinoma Player (free) and Producer ($). The quality is 10x better than the provided gMovie. Download cartoon episodes (The Simpsons) to fit 2 entire shows on a 128mb.
2. Get Documents to Go Premium($). You can review your drafts of a very important report rather than bring your bulky notebook computer. Use it like an editor for last minute fixups! Powerpoint is awesome!
3. To fillup some room on Datebook and remember important holidays and learn of some new ones - get Holidates2 ($)
4. Get SplashPhoto - view your pictures from your sony camera memory stick. SplashMoney - "So thats how much money I have." SplashID - get your plethora of info, serial, registration, usernames, passwords, etc organized!
5. Games - the best there is "Warfare Incorporated" The best sound, graphics, challenge there is in a PDA game. (has actual voice overs). Only bad thing is the huge memory it needs...store it in a card. Second place is "Billiards" - just like yahoo pool. Third - "Bejeweled" Fourth - the always popular "DopeWars"
6. Reading up on news and sports? Get avantgo (free). Pictures are a bit cluttered but clear enough and updated very often.
7. Make sure you get your free map from Mapopolis - this helped me a few times during my times in SF.
8. Battery Life (a happier life?) a. Keep brightness level exactly at 50% this gives you almost same level as 100% but saves you 30% on extended battery life. b. Turn off "Beam Receive" in Pref menu. Because if on - it searches for activity in the air every 2 min. c. When outside make sure you turn off the backlight (by holding down the off button) d. You can leave the T665c on the charger overnight, when the charge light goes off, there's only a very small trickle charge being delivered to the battery, whcih is probably helpful in the long run. I really like how my clie looks on the charger...very neat. Hopefully you got the matching cradle.
9. Purchase BugMe and exchange the memopad shortcut button to this handy application. You can now write your own short messages in your own handwriting.
10. To save a few K bits - delete any unneeded soundutility sounds (i keep about 5 of them only).
11. For your address book...get small size quality pictures for each of your collegues and friends and paste it on each of them. Also make a professional buisness card when you need to beam.
12. Finally to complement the beauty of the unit you will need to protect it without deceiving the look. Get the Metal Deluxe Case from InnoPocket that has the exact material finish and dimenstions of the T665c. It is made specifically for this clie with cut outs for volume, jog dial, sync, hold switch, and even memory stick! Check this site out for it: http://store.craytonelectronics.com/metdelcasfor4.html
Now the Bad:
1. Battery life is not great when you want to listen to music at the same time when your doing applications.
2. Can't delete some preinstalled software...like gMovie.
3. Not sure how to replace LiOn battery when needed.
This is a discontinued item...hopefully my tips will make your clie experience even better!

No support services! - Avoid this Sony product!.......2007-03-07
My battery was non-servicable after a year. Battery is very difficult to get and change out. No one wants to talk about it ... I thought the COMPAQ PDA I bought was bad! I never expected this level of non-support from SONY. Get a Palm!
BUYER BEWARE! .......2006-05-22
I purchased my Sony PEG TJ27 and it worked great for the first 6 months then the battery died, then the screen light phased out. What a nightmare, Spend the extra money for a PALM, you'll be much happier.
Problems, problems, ..........2005-12-16
First I could not sync. Returned the unit to Sony for repair (warranty). Then they forgot to ship the sync cable back with the unit. Now, after the warranty period, the camera on the Clié no longer works - a message says "the lens cover is closed" but it is not... So I can't use the camera in the unit any more. I will go back to Palm next time...
DON'T DO IT!.......2005-11-08
After a little over a year, my PEG-TJ27 is useless. I had to return it to SONY support within 2 months due to screen issues...and that alone was a nightmare trying to get it fixed. The latest is my battery died and I cannot recharge it. I plug it into the cables, and it comes on for about 10 seconds then shuts down and the recharge light is off...will not recharge...
so if you are considering purchasing this (or any SONY PDA for that matter) I suggest you run the other way...
beware.......2005-08-12
I have a PEG-TJ37 and like another reviewer, my back-light has quit. I think it is because the screws fall out of the casing. So..beware. I love the unit though and hope to replace it on e-bay. Good MP3 player, decent low-res camera, and unlimited memory if you don't mind using memory sticks. This is the second CLIE I have owned and both were trouble-free for about 2 years.

Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld.......2007-03-10
Works well enough If you want it just for your day to day activities.
I have had to reset it like a million times. Good thing is it does n ot lose your data whet you reset.
The camera is a sham and never works at all.
Nice media player though.
You can not sync it on any other palm OS even those that run The same OS.
I am looking to excnange it off or sell it off.
This PDA Is Excellent.......2004-06-01
I just bought this PDA and it is everything I could hope for. Sony struck a pot of gold with this one. Get a memory card (128 mb maybe) and you have enough memory for thousands of applications. I had trouble with Sonic Stage, but I am assuming I can figure it out. The camera works great. The keyboard is not good with numbers, but you can use the on screen one for that. If you have any further questions e-mail me at ryanj0@belleville.k12.wi.us
Super PDA for the Price.......2004-04-14
My wife bought this for me and I love it! The previous PDAs I have owned were not nearly as high tech. I certainly could not say more about the wonderful camera features than the other reviewer. As for all the other features all I can say is they work great. I have had mine about six months now and I have used them all and I have not had any problems. I mainly use it for my DVD and CD databases and games, but all the capabilities are amazing. I also highly recommend getting the Belkin USB Sync/Charge cable. It sure beats using a Sync/Charge Cradle since it is easy to carry anywhere.
Ahead of its time............2004-04-06
Back when this Clie came out, it was the first with integrated keyboard and a built-in digital camera. Two years later, it is still ahead of many handheld devices! One neat feature: remote controller! MP3 player is another nice feature, so check out the used Clie's.
Reply to Great PDA, but............2004-02-05
I am actually waiting for my unit in the mail. I wanted to point out that Sony has a patch on their website that is supposed to address the memory stick recognition problem.

Amazon.com Review
Having already dipped its toe in the ocean that is the PDA market with the Clié PEG-SN760C and the PEG-S300 models, Sony has now jumped in with a second-generation color model--the PEG-T615C. Featuring the same 33 MHz DragonBall processor, high-resolution 320 x 320 color screen, and jog wheel functionality, it also boasts 16 MB of internal RAM, the latest version of the Palm OS (v. 4.1), and a superslim aluminum body.
Very similar in design to Sony's previous color model, the Clié PEG-T615C features the same Jog Dial button, allowing for easy, one-handed navigation around applications. The scroll buttons have been replaced with a tiny rocker switch, which doesn't function as easily as the original buttons. Also, the included flipover screen protector does have a tendency to detach from the unit a bit too easily.
The Memory Stick slot has been retained, allowing for increased expandability. Battery life runs at about 15 days before a recharge is required, though this does depend entirely on how much you use the PDA.
The PEG-T615C has lots of little pluses that make it stand out from the rest. It sits in the cradle nicely and it doesn't make a horrible crunching sound when it's removed, unlike some PDAs. Clié-specific applications such as the AV Remote Commander, World Alarm (which allows you to use your own sound files), Sound Utility, and Clié Paint are fun to play around with. Those of you wanting to do some serious work will be pleased with Documents To Go and Intellisync Lite. The latest version of the Palm OS includes easier data entry and enhanced security and mobile connectivity.
However, the standout feature on the PEG-T615C has to be the high-resolution screen--the images are sharp and detailed, while the text is supersmooth. It makes other PDA displays look positively archaic.
With its bright color screen, superior sound quality, and supersleek body, the PEG-T615C is probably the best (and sexiest) Palm OS-based PDA on the market at the moment and well worth your consideration. --Martin Snelling
Pros:
- Bright, high-resolution color screen
- 16 MB of memory that's expandable with Memory Sticks
- Superslim
- Fun Sony add-on programs
Cons:
- New rocker switch replacing scroll buttons not as functional
- Flip screen protector detaches too easily

Going...Going...Gone!.......2004-08-12
I bought my Sony Clié PEG-T615C/U of eBay for $160.00 CAD in December of 2003. It was the best purchase of my life. I used it for taking notes in class and the battery life was good enough for me to use at school and charge every night. I would play games on public transport to school and home and would act as my alarm clock each night. Ultimately, the best thing ever. In mid-June of 2004, all of a sudden, my Clié refused to charge. The green cradle light failed to light, as did the orange unit light. It wouldn't HotSync either. I put it on the shelf and couldn't use it anymore. In August of 2004, I took it to Sony Repair Service. They said that it would cost $175 CAD to repair, but before they could repair it, they would have to look at it which costs $50 CAD. Astonished at the response of Sony Canada, I left. Why has Sony been going downhill? They used to be so much better than they are now. They even discontinued the Clié because it was breaking so much under warranty, that they were losing money. Sony is about money now instead of quality. After my encounter with the Repair Center, I figured that I had nothing to lose, and opened the Clié up. Nothing that I could find. I recommend never to buy this product, unless you know the people that you buy it from very well.
Sorry I bought it........2004-02-09
My first experience with a PDA was with one of the old monochrome Palms. The advantage to that device was that you could use the thing every day and the batteries would last for maybe 6 to 8 weeks.
With the T615 the battery situation is much different. With luck I can get maybe four hours of use out of one charge. I have a cradle at work, but I had to buy an additional cradle for home, which was around $50. I needed that just so I could use the thing on the weekend, otherwise the battery would die. In other words, with the T615 you are almost tethered to the cradle, because the rechargeable battery life is so short.
The other thing is that the battery discharges even when you don't use it. For example, if the battery is about half-charge and you don't use it for a week, the next time you turn it on, the battery will be completely dead. I mean dead to the point that all the information you had on the device is gone. With the older monochrome Palm, I suppose that could happen were you to leave dead batteries in it for months. But I never saw it happen. But with the Clie, I would say that it happens every few months.
But here's where the memory card is useful. I back up everything on the memory card all the time so that when the thing dies I can simply restore from the card.
One the one hand, you don't want to use the thing too much because you run the battery down so fast. But if you don't use it the battery runs down anyway. So you get the worst of both worlds. "Why not just keep it in the charger," you ask? Well, I do, but the care and feeding of my PDA does not form a very large part of my consciousness, and I forget to do that sometimes. Again, with the older Palm, battery life almost didn't matter because the battery life was so good.
I find that the Clie is so unreliable that I mostly use the PC software that comes with it. Any more I just use the Clie as a kind of expensive backup storage device in case something were to happen to the PC -- kind like a jump drive with a screen.
The good thing about the Clie is that it has a very lovely and clear screen -- a beautiful screen that, because of the short battery life, you won't see very often.
So learn from my experience, and understand that if your PDA doesn't have good battery life, the other features don't mean very much.
FAILED AFTER ONE YEAR, so did my brothers!.......2003-12-21
Hi guys,
Me and my brother were both so excited buying this when it came out. It failed for both of us after one year!. Anyhow I will never buy Sony again. However, my brother did and im pretty sure his latest Sony will fail again. Sony has such awesome designs but poor quality in this line of product!
Miss WLC.......2003-04-25
Good Toy! Does everything and some more! It's cute, too - I like that. My co-workers get jealous when I pull it out in meetings to take notes and check my schedule. My friends get jealous when I pull it out to play games and read the newspaper. Hahahahaha! It holds tons of information and I wish I had one years ago!
did I have a lemon?.......2003-04-24
I have been a long time palm user....wanted the color, so went with Sony. Short battery life, power button in a bad place, turned on "by itself", and died frequently, poor instructions, and then the backlite died. Would certainly not buy again.
