bad experience.......2007-09-14
Received the product. It worked for 2 days and then stopped working. Did all the things suggested by manufacturer to remedy- to no avail. Decided to return and get my $$ back under the AMAZON 100% satisfaction policy.
Sent back unit within 5 days of receipt.
Manufacturer would not return $$- their policy is "replacement only". Amazon was contacted and their solution was that the manufacturer would remit 85%.
It cost me $$ to have the first unit delivered, $$ to return it, and with my "100% AMAZON guarantee, it cost me over $40 plus the time and aggravation. All because the unit failed to work
I do not recommend this product or company (Digitaletc)for future purchase, and am sadly disappointed in AMAZON for their lack of enforcement
Okay so far, a few problems.......2007-09-10
I've only had this for a week and it's working fine. I hope it won't break on me like some of the other reviewers after some use.
I'd give it a 5 for design and convenience factor, but then I have to downgrade that to a 3 for three reasons.
1. The mic does not fold up as it should in the picture on the box. Instead of folding up forward, it folds backward which means you can't push the base flush against a wall. This is a trifle, but it's annoying and shows some lazy design.
2. I can't call my voicemail from the memorized number list. This phone cannot process numbers that begin with an asterisk (*) which is what I need to access voicemail. All my other phones up to now have been able to. Again, a design defect.
3. The voicemail light on the upper right corner of the phone constantly blinks red and there is no way you can shut it off.
Overall, I think this is a great product idea, but I think the execution and design is lacking. They'll probably get it right if they launched a second version.
AWESOME.......2007-09-02
This is the best phone I've ever owned. The cordless headset is unbelieveable. The reception is excellent. Every aspect of this phone is first class.
Almost Pefect.......2007-09-01
I love the versatility I now have with this phone. The headset is comfortable. I love not having headset wires catching on doorknobs and table ends yanking the headset off my head. I also feel free not having to carry the handset with me all the time. I just need to have it somewhat nearby to answer the call-waiting.
The clarity of sound is great, however, I have had a few complaints about an echo on the receiver's end. It is not a bad echo, but an echo just the same.
Small Office Solution.......2007-08-15
I am in agreement with others who have reviewed this product suspiciously however, overall I love this phone.
Pros - Great look, nice design, ingenious wireless solution/integration. Also, I love that you can program in your area code. This is a great feature or those of us who use VOIP and are located in a different time zone than the area code of the number. By putting in the actual area code, it logs phone calls based on the time zone that area code is located in. This is great for my small business, but I could understand might be an annoyance for someone else. But you have the ability to switch this. Also, because of the way it is set up wirelessly I have the transmitter in my house while I have the charger and phone units outside in my office (detached home office).
Cons -
1. Phone book is numerical by entry not alphabetical and you can either scroll through or memorize the 2 digit entry location.
2. The volume issue with the headset. Volume adjusts both the microphone and receiver volume which can create feedback depending on how you situate the boom mic. I found the same issue with the handset unit as well. My solution is to keep the volume at either 2/4 or 3/4 to reduce this phenomenon.
3. Base unit - (This really is a picky detail oriented comment) The graphics on the unit are perpendicular to the way you would normally plug the unit into a wall. For example, when you plug it into the wall the unit sits like a page in a book but the graphics are sideways. I know this sounds picky, but, with a unit that is so sleek this seems to be a simple oversight in design... unless your outlet sits sideways.
4. To my current knowledge you can not reorder extra pieces for over the ear/head.
Overall, for the price of this unit I would strongly recommend it. I have been using the ear piece over the ear and can wear it for a while before feeling any pain. I have used Plantronics units at a call center I used to work at and feel the design is a bit more slick but the performance in volume is not quite as good. If you are looking for a fairly low cost unit that is portable, offers/includes a headset... This is the unit for you.

Was OK for about 9mths.......2006-01-27
This phone HAD good sound quality even with my DSL(yes filters were on)...Just a barely audible little hiss on the line unless you turn up (well "slide up")the phone's volume too high). There is a thingie you slide to control the volume...no button. I guess for the price I should not expect anything GREAT. Well after around 9mths or so I am getting such a BAD crackling noise on the line (even when my I'm not using my PC and the DSL is not on)that I can no longer use this phone. What is sad I paid almost $15 for it @an office supplies store yet I am seeing it on various sites including this one for between $5-10 now. Oh well... LOL.
Small package, big performance.......2005-02-07
I was pleasantly surprised by this phone. It feels solid, has a nice design, and has excellent sound quality on both ends of the line.
Weird Handset, too light........2004-11-25
The handset on this phone is way too weird to use comfortably and the phone is so light that the base gets dragged around by the handset when you are using it. I like the AT&T 210 Trimline phones (which are supposedly discontinued, but easy to find on Amazon.com) much better.
Rare, innovative design, weird handset.......2004-02-06
I bought this phone free after rebate and it's one of those rare tiny phones with the keypad in the base. This makes it an ideal wall phone. I can't say it's useful as a desk phone as the base slides around despite it's heavy weight. The keypad in the base is a good plus for a phone this inexpensive--usually you need to get a much more expensive speaker phone just for buttons in the base. If you spend a lot of time with voice-response systems, as many of us do with voice mail and such, this telephone is the most convenient way to do it for the least money.
The handset is weird. The microphone is entirely too skinny and if you're a shoulder-holder you probably won't like the phone. The handset cord is long enough but it's the cheap dull-finished kind that gets dirty easily. Get a nice AT&T Tuff Cord to replace it.

This phone has been exactly what we needed for an excellent price - small design so not bulky, has Off/Lo/Hi for ringer options, Tone/Pulse options, and three volume control options for the loudness of what you hear. Also buttons for redial, flash, program/mute, and memory. It can be wall-mounted however we have it on a desk. The one problem we have is that it is SO easily knocked off the base and therefore easily off the hook. Perhaps on the wall is a better option.

Why should I pay $49 to have a CD SHIPPED to me?.......2005-07-02
I am high and dry with this scanner and no software. Yes you can PURCHASE the new software for OS10, but it's not available for DOWNLOAD. You have to wait for them to ship it. Can someone please explain to me why you can't download it like virtually every other piece of software in the universe?
IS Supported for OSX.......2004-06-02
This last review stating that the Astra 6400 is not OS X compatible is not correct, there is a software upgrade on the UMAX website for $49.
WARNING: NO SUPPORT FOR OS X.......2003-08-30
I bought the 6450 (same as this with transparency adapter) a year or so ago and it worked well enough under Mac OS 9.1. However, when I upgraded my Mac to OS X I was astonished to find out that Umax does not support this series of scanners under OS X and has no intention of doing so. That leaves recent purchases of the scanner high and dry. I am totally fed up with Umax and will never buy anything from them again.
Worked fine at first..........2002-02-05
Well, I bought this scanner almost a year ago. It worked pretty well for a while. It is quite fast, and I like the way the TWAIN software retains modified settings until one changes them: a feature more manufacturers should consider. BUT, not only did it not work with XP (what were they thinking???) when I upgraded, it wouldn't work with 98 SE when I tried to re-install it on my old machine. Looks like the card is bad. Very disappointing performance.
DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS XP - BEWARE.......2001-12-11
I just upgraded to Windows XP after buying this product. It's not supported by Microsoft. Neither is the Astra 6450.
Be very careful.
