You either love 'em or you hate 'em..........2007-08-25

...and I happen to love 'em. I use TDK CD-Rs almost exclusively. And I burn a lot of CDs on my two Macs. I am not lying when I say I have NEVER had a TDK CD-R fail during a burn. Never. Cross my heart and hope to die. I've had good luck with Sony, too, but I don't like the top coating on the Sonys. Too easily damaged. Memorex? I bought some on sale because they were cheap. The CDs burned fine on one Mac, but not on the other. And the ones that burned were, for some reason, unplayable in my car CD player. Never have had that problem, or any other, with TDKs. Yes, some people hate 'em. But I won't buy any other brand. And the sale price at Amazon is pretty good. Especially with free shipping (I'm a Prime member) and no sales tax. TDK = AOK.

Very disappointed about made in India CD-Rs!!!.......2007-08-15

I used to like TDK products when they packaged and sold Taiyo Yuden OEM CD-Rs. The CD-R quality was excellent. I never had any problem. Later they switched to made in Taiwan CD-Rs. Now I found these TDK CD-Rs I received from Amazon.com last weekend are made in India! TDK DVD-Rs are made in Taiwan. :(

Good price but poor quality........2007-08-13

When I buy the 50 pack size they seem okay, but in the 100 packs many skip and some refuse to play entirely. I'll just stick to buying two 50 packs from now on.

TDKs just aren't what the used to be........2007-07-29

My first set of TDKs were perfect. Not single coaster in a pack of 100. With this recent batch, I have burned 4 coasters in a row from the first four in the pack. I did a little checking and these CDs are made by Ricoh in India, whereas my first batch were made by Taiyo Yuden. I just orded a pack of Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs, because I'm pretty sure that they will work like my first batch of TDKs. I will never buy TDK again, as I can't be sure of the quality from one batch to the next.

I have about 200 live concerts that I burned onto TDK discs about 3 years ago. None of them are playable now. Going forward, I will only use Mitsui Gold cds.

Consistently good performance!.......2006-12-20

I use these discs for data (but not consistently for audio), and I've never had a problem with one yet. No errors in the burning process, no read problems.

The few times I used them for music (WMA or MP3 files), again no problems, and no complaints.

Problems?.......2006-11-26

Has anyone else experienced the following ?: Used the first twenty or so in a stack of 100 without any problems, then have run into (so far) a run of at least 30 defective discs after the remainder sat unused for a few months. After various attempts to narrow down the problem, I tracked it down to the blank CD-Rs. I had exactly the same problem occur with another brand, which was replaced with these TDKs. Is there some unwritten shelf life for blank CD-Rs or am I just unlucky?

Great discs for everyday burning!!.......2006-07-18

I've been using the silver data TDK's for a while now, and I've had no problems, they are reliable and they sound superb. I was buying the white music version, but after using and listening to both, there is no difference, although I have a friend who won't use the silver discs because the package doesn't say music!Pretty silly.

Anybody who claims to have problems with errors needs to slow down the burn speed. What is this obssesion with burning at high speeds?? I burn all my dvd's and cd's at 1 and 2x. I guarantee you will not have errors, unless you use poor technique or a piece of junk burner. Slow it down, and you'll get more consistent results. When I burn a dual layer dvd with a 7-8 gb file, it takes about 40 minutes on my Lacie burner, so what!!!! Press record, and go away, watch the tube or whatever. Also, buy the Cardas test cd, about $20 bucks, it has two tracks on it that demagnetize the entire signal path. Use it on the computer, cd and dvd players and let it play thru your stereo or home theatre system. Makes an audible difference, and I think it just might minimize writing errors. All these little things make a difference. My non audiophile friends have commented to me on how good my cd's sound, this is not an accident, believe me!!

TDK's are great, but if you want to go beyond that, try Mitsui dvd's and cd-r's. They are the best with a lifespan or 75 and 300 years for the silver and gold respectively. Total overkill, but total quality also!!

Slow Burn.......2006-06-24

I too am experiencing the problems of the original post. I purchased the 48x TDK 50 disc spindle. I was sent a 52x 50-pack spindle. So far, no matter the speed about 5 of 25 have successfully burned. Using Nero. I use the much less lauded Verbatims I have that are over two years old, no problems. I do not know what to make of it. Previous to this purchase, I had nothing but glowing reviews for TDK CD-R media.

I have used tdk cd's and many other's like maxwell,memorex,comp-usa,verbatrim, and fujitsu and none have had as good performance i have never encountered a faulty disk or even a skip. I would recommend these over all cd-r's!

I've been using Maxell recording products (tape, cd-r, etc.) for the last 20 years, but decided to try this TDK product when I saw it was about half the price of the Maxell equivalent. I've been very pleased with it. Haven't burned a coaster yet. In fact I liked it so much, I'm ordering another spindle!

Good durability, but burn errors galore.......2005-05-08

Blank CD-R companies always seem to be a hit or miss. Some have good durabilty, and some have good burning, some (only a few) have both, and some (once again only a few) neither. TDK is the company that has good durability of their CD-Rs, but almost half are errors.

The packaging states "48x", so I burned at 48x on a Buslink drive (52x24x52). It choked, and took 10 minutes for Nero to say "Burn error had failed at 48x". So, I went lower at 32x. Same thing. Then I went to 24x and the thing finally worked. If a package says "48x", I'm expecting 48x, not 24x. Even at times 24x would choke and not burn correctly.

Yes, I do have a few TDK CD-Rs that are 2-3 years old and look almost new compared to the 2-3 month old Sony, but with all these errors, will I ever get to experience that? Try looking at Maxell, Philips, and Samsung.

TDK's CD-R quality is great and will last longer........2003-11-16

I have learned a hard lesson in buying blank CD-R over the years. I first bought the blank aluminum surface cheap no-name CD-R at the computer fair. They were OK; they don't last as long as TDK, but burn well. Only 2-5 bad CD in a bundle of a 100 failed. I decided to upgrade the look of the blank CDR on my next purchase and got Sony. TDK and Yamaha were noticeably expensive. Sony's CDR(smooth pearl surface) are the absolute worst (read my review on for Sony CD-R) the CD will burn, but over time become unreadable and the surface started to fake.

My friend burned me a TDK's CD about 2-3 years ago and the CDR still look like new. So, I decide to give it a try. I read somewhere that TDR surface is a little more scratch proof then the other brands. I have no problem burning any of TDK. I have a Yamaha burner burning between 4-20speed and the TDK 48x has no problem. I have 3 generation of TDK, they all look a like very nice with smooth silver surface and a nice clean design. The surface at time is harder to write on then other cheaper CDR with a dryer marker, but I think it is because of high quality TDK surface. If you want to save a couple of cents per CDR and get cheaper CDR then it won't last as long as a TDK's CDR. Noticeable: Memorex is pretty good, and cheaper. Some HP is very nice with gold surface. Yamaha is TDK quality but pricier, Sony (pearl surface) is crap. Fiji is good and also cheaper. Looking at the surface you can tell which brand model is good. The gold surfaces are the best and pricier then the aluminum/silver surface. You will always get a better deal when you buy a 100-spindle over a 20pack. I first bought TDK 20 pack to see how good they were before I moved to up to a 100-spindle.
