Bought this for my mother. While it worked the controls were difficult to use. Bought this in Fall 2006, the CD player stopped playing about six months later. Don't buy this product.

As others have noted, this clock radio does *not* have the 7/5/2-day programming option, which was critical to me.

J&R was nice about the return but they wouldn't credit my shipping because they say they aren't responsible for descriptions on Amazon. (I checked and the J&R description of this clock radio is correct - no claim about the non-existent "feature.")

So in the end I was out the time and money for shipping. But I do really like the Sangean RCR-22 I got as a substitute!

Stopped working after 1 year.......2007-07-19

I received this alarm clock for a gift and at first really enjoyed it and waking to the Natural sounds. However, after only a year, an internal LED started flickering - very annoying at night - and then the digits on the display started disappearing. It progressed to where you could not turn off the alarm nor snooze it. I am disappointed that a $70 clock wouldn't last for more than a year.

I like the physical appearance of the unit as alo the control buttons, but, am very disappointed in the sound quality, and forget the nature sounds. Both the AM and FM bands come through very "tinny", totally unlike the sound I was receiving on my Sony Dream Machine - clear, deep and robust - which gave up after being used for 17 yrs. The Timex T617S was more affordable but not worth the savings. Maybe I am just too choosy.

I ordered a T439S and Amazon sent model T435 Timex MP3/CD Line-In dual alarm clock radio which looks exactly like this model only the display color is amber and you can't change it. After spending an hour setting the damn thing (it's not easy to set either), realized it was the wrong model. Also put brand new batteries in it for battery back-up and the low battery light blinks constantly.

Unit states it's Xtra Loud. You can barely hear the internal buzzer. in fact the buzzer is actually slightly louder if you flip it upside down because the design team apparently but it on the underside. It does not hold a station on the tuner (AM or FM). You can set a station, check it 5 minutes later (without moving the unit or antenna) and you'll hear light static. Completely useless as an alarm clock. Would give it a 0 star if possible.

Firstly, and this should tell you right off it's no good, it's not made by Timex but by SDI Technologies. Apparently SDI has licensed the Timex brand. Secondly, it's NOT super loud. Thirdly, it's just a horrible layout. Don't think you're going to hit the right button when you're half asleep. Horrible clock period!

Good Alarm Clock, but watch out for new DST .......2007-03-12

I like this alarm clock, but there are several problems. With batteries that I know are good, the time still resets when there is a brown out and we lose power. Also, its designed to automatically update for the old daylight savings time, so you now have to set four times a year (twice for the actual daylight savings time, and twice to correct it when it changes for twice the old daylight savings time). I have no problem with the new daylight savings time, since its on the news, and I get memos about it at work, but the old daylight savings time I will never remember and will not be on time.

If timex has updated this clock, then its a good purchase, if not avoid it.

The radio reception is also pretty bad, but I dont use that often.

I hunted high and low to find the perfect alarm clock and came up with this one for the following reason:
1-It has a backup battery - no more missing work due to a power outage
2- It is programable - choose from M-F, S&S or M-S settings. No more missing work because I forgot to turn on the alarm
3-It has a CD Player
4-Digital tuner is easier than trying to get a dial just right
5- Preset Radio Stations - easier to change the station
6-I enjoy the chimes & nature sounds occasionaly

If you're the type whose fists slam down on the clock each morning, this is not the clock for you. Rough handling degrades the reliability of anything electronic. Once the radio wakes me up, I'll listen to the news for a few minutes and then silence the clock with a light tap of the top left button.

Other reviewers have noted that the controls are rather complex and non-intuitive. Not true! If your preferences are not overly anal or demanding, and you don't try to use every single feature, you will quickly memorize how to get it working.

I only use two of the three alarms, one for each job. On my day off, I don't want any alarm to bother me, so I don't use the third alarm. It's easy to set and adjust the alarm time: hold down button to get it to blink, push other buttons to move the time backward or forward, hold down button to set it, BEEP. You're done.

The radio pre-sets are also easy to setup and the digital tuner picks up AM stations 100 miles away; stations that my analog radios have difficulty receiving.

The only negatives are:
1) the nature sounds; I would rather wake up to the radio or the beeping.
2) you can't assign the radio to all three alarms. I don't see the logic of restricting alarm 1 to radio, alarm 2 to nature sounds, and alarm 3 to beeping.

i bought the new updated version of my old sound alarm clock and was somewhat disappointed. i have since decided to continue using the old one until it completely dies, and have put the new one up in an unused bedroom upstairs!! will probably have to consider another brand next time - seemed too much trouble to send it back, so i kept it.

I bought this alarm clock last year. It is very difficult to use. I had to take off the top cover of this clock inorder to change the time. It should not be that difficult to change the time on an alarm clock. It is a waste of money.

Cheap Price, Cheap Quality.......2007-03-18

This Elgin remake of the original Timex 3400T is nothing like the original. (I like the original so much I was hoping to buy another.) Sadly, the quality of this clock is very, very poor. This new design of the 3400T is completely different (worse) -- they should have changed the part number.

I liked the ability to quickly and quietly set a "nap" time in the original. No more! The updated version is much more difficult to set and it beeps loudly every time you press a button.

I am very disappointed. I'd gladly pay three times the price to get a 3400T of the original Timex design.

I have used this clock for a few months now.Its great.Its the little things like the ease of setting the nap timer or using the snooze.Some guy said this clock gains time.Thats a little true after 5 Months it gained 3 minutes.Not a problem.

Bought this despite mixed reviews from previous customers. As mentioned by others it gains approximately 3-4 min in a week. Also the Indiglo display isnt that great. It is very hard to see the time display during the day. Bottomline.. Always look through customer reviews and think hard and long if a product you are considering buying has bad reviews.

Update: Display is all messed up after just one battery change. Stay away from this product

I wanted to set a timer for certain events. This does exactly what I want very well, at a very fair price. After reading the reviews, I had expected it to gain or lose minutes each day, which would be ok with me, but have had it for a month or so and it keeps the correct time. Pleasant design, works fine, I am pleased.

Interesting Clock.......2007-06-25

Projection, clock and radio with color clock changing temperatures all rolled into one. For some reason my daughter really likes it and that is all that counts. She is amused on how the clock changes color with the temperature and projects the time on the ceiling. It is also has atomic adjusted time and a pressure trend with a weather forcast. This is almost like a toy for a child, but adults may not like the flimsy design or the sound. Will have to see how this clock holds up over time.

The clock changes color based on temperature and anounces the time, date and temperature. The color changing does work as advertised, but there are many problems with this clock. It is hard to see the numbers on the clock as it is always too dark for my eyes no matter what color it changes to. The temperature seems to run too low. There is no atomic time adjustmnet so you have to set the clock manually. The radio sounds very bad. It is poorly made as the knobs keep falling off. The worst problem is that when you set the alarm to the radio you hear the alarm part, then the anouncement and then finally the radio and there is no way to set it differently then that. The alarm always goes on no matter what you do and it is too loud and there is no volume for the alarm part, just the radio. This is just a poorly made and poorly thought out clock. True that it has some features other clocks do not have, but the problems outweigh any feature it has. Their R-495 model is a better clock with the same features except for the voice anouncement and is cheaper so I would go with that model instead of this one.

My wife and I have been using this clock for about 5 years now and like it very much.

The dual alarm settings let us both set our own schedules, the atomic time feature has worked perfectly for us (including DST).

The speaker doesn't sound tinny, and it's a perfect clock for waking up to music on.

The interface isn't perfect, however the interface for almost every alarm clock leaves something to be desired, and I've encountered far worse.

Howto Set the Timezone on a T303T:

To set the time zone you hold down the "Mode" button until the map starts blinking. You then use the arrow buttons to select your zone.

After you select it, you press Mode once, and it'll ask you whether you want daylight savings time detection on or off.

Change that the same way, and press Mode once when done.

I was about ready to throw it out, until I found the manual here.
I am very thankful that the manual was available at Amazon. The Timex site doesn't have it.
The unit works OK and I love the backlit display. It sits beside my bed and lets me glance an the time anytime. I can even read it without my glasses.
The problem is that it is absolutely non-intuitive to set. When daylight saving time came this year, I was able to fumble through the controls and reset the time, but every night it would resynch with the NIST time and set it back to standard time instead of daylight.
I could not find how to set the time zone and did not even realize that there was a DST option. I belive it is finally reset properly.

I use a simple travel alarm as my regular wakeup. This is just a clock for me, and it was very frustrating. It does continue to work fine, and I have had it for years.

By the way, I'm not exactly averse to technology. I have an engineering degree and decades of experience in the Information Technology field. This product works as designed, functions as the manual indicates, but has an absolutely abysmal user interface.

Yeah it has a radio....great unfortunately it doesn't save it from me bashing it to bits for revenge after I get a new, better, and possibly cheaper radio alarm clock.

First of all despite the so-called manual, this is by far the most unneccessarily complicated and frustrating clock to set. You literally need to punch the wall a few times to vent your frustrations of figuring how long you should hold the certain button in order for it to set, or the incredibly stupid sequences of buttons you have to press to choose or unchoose the primary and secondary alarms, or why the hell did this piece of garbage seemingly decide to set AUTOMATICALLY by itself on its default timezone/date AFTER you have finally painstakingly set it correctly to your preference.

Simply just a piece of garbage made by people who want to piss off consumers.

Daylight Savings Detection Is Not Working!!!.......2004-04-05

Generally, I like this clock. But the Daylight Savings Detection is not working. It supposes to change the time automatically on day that daylights savings starts or ends, but it does not. I am 100% sure that I set it right. There are 2 possiblities; one is that it is defective or it has design fault, the other is that it rarely get signal from where I live. But it should not require signal for daylight savings detection to work because daylight savings happens the same time every year, so the clock should know when to set it by itself.

The clock & alarm & other setting is quite different & more complicated than normal clocks, so setting a clock is a little difficult at first.

The Timex T311T auto-set dual-alarm clock radio may be small, but it stands to play a big role in your daily life. timex cuts corners.......2007-03-28

I have had this clock for over a year and it is generally a nice looking basic clock that has worked well over all. I would have given it more stars except for two issues. One, the display is not large enough to see early in the a.m. I guess if I didn't have the clock on the dresser near the foot of my bed, it might not be such an issue. Also, since my bed is lower than my dresser, I look up at the clock and the angle really fuzzes out the numbers. I won't be buying another clock with such a small display area again, though. The second and biggest issue is they made the daylight savings function automatic and not changeable. Even if you are in a non-daylight savings area, you are stuck with the daylight savings feature. Now that they changed daylight savings on us, I am stuck with a radio that will need to be adjusted 4 times a year. I think this is unbelievably cheesy. Also, I am not sure what product the other reviewer was talking about when referring to a "cd player". This one has a radio.

CD player makes the whole thing worth pitching.......2007-01-05

Cd player is terrible: doesn't play some Cds at all, and many of those it does play are terribly staticky and poor sounding on this unit only (not on my car system or others in the house). I actually returned the first one of these I purchased for these very reasons, but I hung on to the replacement because I was unable to find anything else I liked the looks and features of better. Wish I hadn't! Don't like the way the Cd player opens, either. I like the size of the digital clock display, the battery back-up and waking to nature sounds, but the CD function was a very important feature to me, and in that regard, this rates very poorly.

Nice features, but randomly skips time.......2006-04-15

I was attracted to the nice features this clock offers - the dual alarm, date, auto-Daylight Savings Time, forward & backward buttons (rather than having to go all the way through 60 minutes or 24 hours to get the time you want, if you pass it).

HOWEVER, BEWARE OF POOR QUALITY/ DURABILITY: I have only had this clock for a month and 10 days. A couple weeks after purchasing the clock, I noticed the time was suddenly way off. Not even by an exact amount, but randomly, it had changed to about 40 minutes ahead. I thought maybe we'd had a power outage (we hadn't, and this clock claims it will not be affected even if there is an outage - it is supposed to keep the time anyway). Since then, this has happened several times, and my clock has now set itself an hour and 21 minutes ahead in the last two days.

Needless to say, this clock does not serve the function that clocks are supposed to serve, and this is a major problem when it throws off your alarm time and makes you get up extra early or extra late!!

I am satisfied with the Timex T311T I ordered through amazon.com. This product meets all the requirements I need. I don't even have to adjust daylight savings time when this happens because the clock is already programmed for this. The size of the numbers (time) are great because I don't have to wear my eyeglasses to read them. The lumination of the light is also just right -- it is not bright but also not dim. Besides, I can choose the lumination I like. The brightest one does not even bother me at night because it does not illuminate the entire bedroom thereby making it difficult to fall asleep.

Lots of handy features,small package!.......2006-03-10

We bought this alarm clock to replace our old GE that we had since the early eightys. The first thing you notice about this clock is how small it is,which is nice becuase it doesn't take up much space on the night stand. The numbers are easy to read and the amber back light has three brightness levels, we have found that the middle setting suits us. Don't worry about this clock being too bright at night, the lowest setting is pretty dim. The radio features digital tuning with presets, a big plus over our old GE. It also has an external antenae which you can position to recieve better reception. Sound is decent, but obviousley not as your prime listening source. The alarm is easy to set but here is my only gripe. This clock is a dual alarm clock, however one of the alarms will be the radio and the other will be the buzzer. I wish that both alarms could be the radio. At least the buzzer isn't that irritating, it sounds like a digital watch alarm. One other nice feature is the back up batterey (which is included), not all clocks have them. We are overall very pleased with the clock.

Timex and Ipod - Great Combo!.......2007-08-28

Have only had this a day and am already pleased with this alarm/clock radio - easy to read dial, helpful features (daylight saving feature is great) AND an indiglo dial for reading the clock easily at night...only minus I can find is that the buttons for the alarms seem less sturdy than the rest. Would definitely recommend!

It works with the iPhone!.......2007-07-16

After trying my new Apple iPhone in several other iPod alarm clocks (iHome, etc.), I decided to give the Timex Ti700 a try. It was smaller than the other devices (read: portable), had a useable dimmer (I am light-sensitive when getting to sleep), and was less expensive than most. I am thrilled to report with the 30 GB Video iPod insert installed, it works perfectly with the iPhone! It will play music from the iPhone, wake to the iPhone, allow the devices remote to control the iPhone, and will charge the iPhone while it is plugged in. Now, I have a way to keep my iPhone both charged and right next to my bed.

When first plugged in, the device will ask if you want to enter Airplane Mode. But it will accept "No" as an answer, and so far plays well in that mode. I heard a very little but of interference from the cell radio, but not enough to bother me.

Update 7/17/2007: Okay, some bumps the first night of use. For some reason, every 45 minutes or so, the device would activate and start playing from the iPhone. It may be related to e-mail check or something else, but it made it quite difficult to sleep. I eventually had to unplug the iPhone from it, and wake up to my old alarm clock. More info to come, as I trouble-shoot this.

Great item !!.......2007-03-22

I was looking for a dual alarm clock and got the bonus of the use of my ipod with this item! Wake to ipod,(or radio)also keeps the ipod charged at all times. It also has enough presets for any radio stations you might want. It puts out a pretty good quality sound too. A really great feature is the daylight savings time button... just a quick switch..and you can either add or subtract an hour. It was very easy to set up. The time is easy to read, very bright, but you can dim it. Comes with the battery back up and the remote even comes with a battery already in !! I received it NEXT day from the shipper. (requested standard shipping) Very satisfied overall !!!
