Cute Gift.......2007-09-12

I bought this for my husband on Father's Day. He loved it and showed it off to all of his friends. The program was very easy to set-up and use. I cropped most of the photos and the resolution was excellent for it's size.

The only problem is it's very fragile. My husband dropped the keys a few times and it hasn't worked since. Be careful and don't keep it on a key chain. I would buy this again.

I saw this and thought it would be great to have the grandkids pictures with me all the time. I didn't expect it to be as nice as it was. The picture quality is great large enough to see the pictures well.
I may purchase another as a gift! The pictures were easy to download too.

I looked all over the web for these specs (including the TAO site), so I am adding them here:
- Display is 128x128 pixels in 24 bit color
- USB interface is NOT a standard block file device (e.g. does not show up as a disk drive), but uses a proprietary interface, so you MUST use the included software, which is not available for Linux.

Also, if you think you should be able to fit a lot more than 30 128x128 pixel JPG images into 8MB, you would be right, but the software limits you to a fixed 30 pictures, which you can (re-)extract from the device as a entire batch (for re-use later) into a (seemingly proprietary) ".itc" file (which is actually 66 bytes of header followed by the images in 49,152-byte blocks (128 x 128 x 3byte color) in simple RGB bitmap format. Even if the device stores the images in the uncompressed bitmap format (which it probably does), it is using no more than 1.5MB of the "8MB internal memory" to store your pictures.

The casing is clearly not bulletproof, and the buttons to stick out from the edge (which would explain why they are "falling off"), and the software is poorly written (bluescreened on second use -- "Handy with a soldering iron, but a menace to society behind a keyboard") but includes a built-in rechargeable battery, charger, USB cable, and a surprisingly high-quality jewelery-type box, for which I paid <$40. I think if expectations keep in line with this nearly disposable price-point, I think this product will meet them.

I have not had any problems with the device itself (in the first 3 days), and it seems ok with a few keys on it, but can see where the design may have trouble in a high-stress environment embedded in a wad of keys, and a menagerie of other key fobs. I found the display to be adequately bright (I'm sure these are mass-produced cell-phone and digital camera displays, so you can use them for a rough idea)

Easy to load and edit. Cool, fun product great for a gift. Only problem is the spring pin that connects the chain to the digital frame (like the one that holds a watch band) has come out.

I purchased this product for my wife to use for baby pictures. It works well with the updaqted software from the website, and other people seem to like it too. Display tends to be a little fuzzy, but it very viewable.

I bought this as a gift for my 80+ year old uncle, to show off photos when he goes visiting. I liked the idea of a keyring combined with a photo albums. Holding 56 photos provides an adequate amount of photos. I also liked the packaging, especially considering I wanted to give it as a gift.
I know that 1.5" versions are available, but the 1.4" is rather small for anyone, young or old, to see pictures very clearly - you have to get the larger version. The keychain must be used with the provided software, which only allows you to download pictures to the keychain; Therefore you cannot use a TV or computer with a larger screen to show these photos to others.
Good idea, good gift, not as flexible as I would have liked it to be.

My wife bought this for me for Father's Day, and sent it to me overseas (deployed in the military). She had put several pictures on, of our new daughter, so that I could see recent pictures of her. One of the pictures didn't go on properly, so I read the instructions to figure out how to delete it. The instructions say to press the back button for 4 seconds to delete all photos, and the press the forward button for 4 seconds to delete the current photo. That's backwards; it's the other way around. Also, all this does is ASK if you want to delete the photos, but you have to press the power button to actually delete the photo. Long story short, I ended up deleting all of the photos because the instructions are screwed up and backwards. I figured it out, but not until after I had deleted all of the pictures of my new baby daughter, 7500 miles from home. The instructions could be just a little simpler (and correct).

Barely Functions.......2007-01-16

I bought these for my kids.

Brand new alkaline batteries last only long enough to take 5 or 6 pictures. When I take the battery out after it dies, it is *hot*.

The camera has to pull open to use, but it is so stiff my 9 year could not do it until I worked on it and put wax on to keep the plastic from binding.

The pictures are ok, but I don't expect the kids will ever use them. Every time they try, the battery is dead again.

A real disappointment.

I bought this earlier this day, and i'm already disappointed. The software is fairly cheasy, even the best quality is very grainy, it chews up the battery, and it has the smallest amount of memory. 2 MB. Most keychain cameras have 8MB. I'm not even going to try it on low res mode, especially after i saw high res. It wont let me take video. and, there is no way to add memory (most can). I'm taking it back asap, and am going to by the better quality Vistaquest camera. I'm just happy i didn't buy the Digital Concepts camera, for it supposedly doesn't work at all.

I bought this camera thinking that it would be nice to have a little pocket-sized camera to carry around for spontaneous picture taking. I was expecting the photos to be low resolution and low quality considering the price and size of the camera. The quality of the photos was even worse than expected. They are so poor I can't imagine how you would be able to use them for any purpose. I also found that the battery life is too short and the image viewfinder doesn't match the actual image taken requiring you to mentally compensate. The worst offense, however, is that the software that comes with the unit is pathetic. There is also zero support for the camera on the Phillips web page. I recommend staying away from this camera.

I actually love this camera. For $15 it was a real steal.
Pros: Small, many modes, keychain, if you have it in school teachers think it is just a toy (rather than a prohibited camera), takes great nice pictures, adorable!! And very durable. (I was tossing it around, and dropped it on the concrete, it borke into peices, but is extremely easy to put back together and reuse.
Cons: If you take out the batteries it loses pictures, takes small pictures, easy to break (but easy to put back together)

The little peak hole is to look into from afar. If you put your eye up to it, it is blurry.

Well I got this today mailed. The thing is be careful when you cut open the package because otherwise you will break the software CD and that's exactly what happened to me. It is cool. There was a review rumor which said that the camera only held 20 pictures. That's right well sometimes. You can make high resolution and that gives you twenty photos. You can make it 81. The most is 243 pictures which is a lot. Although, the more pictures that can be stored. The worse the quality is. If you are going on a two week trip with no laptop or a place to load the photos to you should use the 81 photo setting. You can't go forever and only take 20 pictures. Just to be warned you are screwed without the software disc. [...] And in the search box type in " Photo2Album " You will then be able to download the program so you can connect with the camera. If you use a windows 98 or 2000 or XP or ME you are fine. If you use an apple that won't work with this camera. Linux or anything else doesn't work. It's so small!

This camera is marketed & sold under a number of different brands & labels. I saw them at Walgreens just yesterday with a different brand. It's junk. Pure junk. I picked one up at Hastings a few months ago. The software didn't work and the manufacturer does not have a website at all. I found an older version of the software on driverguide.com and was able to get that to work. However, within a few days, the camera ceased to operate.

Just to quantify this review, I should mention that I've been using computers my whole life and have made it my career for the past 10 years. I know my way around software and operating systems. The software that comes with these cameras is garbage.

Save your money.
