my son got this 2 years ago when he was a year old. it was always on a shelf and controlled by an adult. the first one we had didn't work straight out of the box. we exchanged it for another one, but it hasn't worked all that great either. it played some cd's and not others (none of our cd's were damaged). the cd player finally just stopped working. looking for a new one that actually works.

We purchased this cd player for our child and the music quality was so apalling we had to return it - twice - thinking the first one was a fluke. That says a lot, as we didn't have high standards for the required sound quality (it's for a 21 month old). Our biggest issue was the static that played right along with the music.

We purchased this cd player for our son to listen to at night at bedtime. It appealed to us because it seemed to be built pretty tough and seemed to be un-cluttered and easy enough for a four year old to use. It never worked quite right. Most of the time it did not work at all. It finally just stopped working and Target exchanged it for us without any problem. After about six months, the replacement unit is now not working. This time I hope that Target will just refund us. Pass this one up.

DO NOT BUY THIS!! This is a warning.. I can't believe they charge 40 bucks for this heap of junk.. Not only can you get a better cd player that plays MP3 files with a better anti skip for the same price or cheaper.. but the cost on batteries is outstanding for this thing. It burns through batteries faster than ANYTHING i've ever seen before.. Two batters last 30 min- 1 1/2 hours in this thing (Name brand.. brand new).. Stay away from it.. save your money.. get something nicer, with MP3 support.. and ofcourse, longer battery lifetime. Keep your eyes out for something that list battery life in the specs.. you always know you're on the right track that way.

The CD player quit working after only five months.
Radio reception issues.......2003-10-30
I had a difficult time returning this item. It was easy to program radio stations into memory and at times the sound quality was good. The bass button was noticeable even with the stock headphones, which don't totally suck.
However, I just found tuner interference to be too much. In a neighborhood where my car stereo doesn't have annoying blips and gaps, this unit didn't give me good clean reception.
Both AM and FM reception had this problem at times.
Sunspot activity? Maybe---we are having high activity now.
Radio Shack's manager blamed the nuclear plant at Reed college....I doubt it---that would cause far more problems than radio reception.
He also said that no other units would be any better....we shall see....
I didn't try the CD player...I presume it would be fine.

My Memorex Experience.......2004-11-01
This Player has some buggy problems. maybe its the headphones, I don't know. It skips like mad, eats batteries, the radio tuning is no good, and no adapters work, keeps cutting off when plugged into the wall with the right polarity. Probably need good headphones. Features are nice on the player, generally plays mp3 very well, but use rechargeables unless you are rich. display is very good, like the blue light. will probably get the adapter SPECIFICALLY for this unit and a good pair of headphones. I do like the fact that it has am/fm, but I think seriously it is for MP3 only. They should have included an adapter, that was a bit cheap of them not to. I guess I picked the wrong one off the shelf or something. will try my warranty and see about another unit. it should have failed a test or something. Iam noticing memorex quality is declining
Skips in odd ways.......2004-07-18
Overall this does a good job but it skips portions of songs. Ever so often, using both CD and MP3, it will skip ahead a tiny amount and throws the beat in your head off. If I were to have the choice again I'd probably buy a competitor, but for the first CD/MP3 player I've bought it's okay.

This cd mp3 player really excited me when I first opened it and tried it out(I bought it half price at a retail store). It supports mp3 long file name, and has a nice bluelit background display. Here is the problem: cheaply built. What happens is this cd player reads your mp3 cds no problem (takes 30 seconds to add up tracks, but not so bad at all) and then when you touch the door, i mean hardly even tap it!, or even if you, say, hold the cd player and walk--it will display a 'door open' reading. at which point it stops playing. and then you must push the door shut and it will then reread the cd. then you pick a track on the nice navigation menu (the menu is actually very cool) and it plays for another 30 secs to a min and repeats this process. what a shame. this player could have been great if it weren't for the manufactoring defect. spend a bit more, try another brand. all and all mp3 cd players can be great, this one is not. you get what you pay for, at least this time.

This cd player is the most horrible device i had ever bought. It cost me 50 dollars, and on the first drop, the thing broke, It took me around an hour to fix it. The mp3 cd player part of it dfoesnt work, and i have to punch it until my knuckles are sore half the time because it says "NO DISK"

Trust Me On This: You'll Regret Just Getting It For The Color........2006-11-20
I bought this MP3/CD player when my old one took a tumble down a flight of stairs and unfortunately did not survive. I wanted to buy the same model but they didn't have one that was new or in full functioning condition so I had to go with a different brand. This one attracted me right away mostly because it's color was 'ice purple'. (Purple is my favorite color, by the way. I also bought because it had a resume function (well, at least it said it did)). I eventually lived to regret my purchase.
There are four positive points to this product: It has excellent sound quality with a great little equalizer, it displays the song title, the battery life is fairly long and the skip protection is very good--I didn't have a problem of it skipping on me, though sometimes I wish it did (I'll explain below). Those are the only reasons why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one.
Here are the cons and believe me, there are many: The most annoying thing and the reason why I chucked the CD player in the garbage (I didn't want anyone to go through what I did) is that this particular CD player will not play any CD's that are not in flawless condition. The smallest speck of dust or the tiniest of scratches will make the CD 'unreadable' to this CD player. That's right--it will NOT play the CD--period. I take very good care of my CD's, but if you take them out of the jewel case once in a while, they are going to have some wear and tear, however slight. Most CD players will still play these 'defective' CDs, usually without any skipping, and even if there is some skipping, most of the CD is still listenable. Not with this CD player. And what makes this even more irritiating is that it doesn't bother to tell you this after about five seconds like other CD players do--it 'scans' the CD for about two minutes as if it's thinking about what it should tell me that would be least likely to make me enraged, then it says 'Disc Error'. I first thought that maybe a had a few bad CD's but after about the fourteenth 'Disc Error' I realized I only had one bad CD player.
Oh, that's not all, there are many other annoying, nonfunctional features on this device also. For one, the other main reason I bought this particular CD player, was because it had a resume function. Obviously Memorex has a completely different definition of 'resume' than I do. With this CD player, there's an idle function where it stays on for a few minutes after you press stop. If you want to shut it off, you have to press the stop button twice. This CD player's definition of 'resume' is when the player is in idle mode, you can press the resume button and it will return to the last song you listened to. That is not my definition of resume AT ALL. I assumed when I bought this thing that it would go back to the last song I played after I shut it off. That's what my last CD player considered to be resume anyway, and it worked great for me. Well, this one doesn't do that. If you shut it off for real it won't remember diddly squat. I found this 'wannabe' resume more annoying than having no resume at all! Since I listen to my CDs about once a day in long sessions without stopping the player, I really have no use for the 'resume-after-five minutes' function.
One of the things that was unique to this player is that it has lettered keypads that enable you to search out a particular title. I thought that was great until I actually tried to use that feature one day. That was an exercise in futility. I typed in three letters...it came up with nothing. I typed in four letters...ABBA...it still came up with nothing despite of the fact that I had about twenty ABBA songs on the CD. I typed in a song title..."Dancing Queen". According to this CD player, there was no song called "Dancing Queen" on the CD, even though I knew for a fact there was. I thought I was doing something wrong, but I looked at the instructions and I was doing it exactly like they said. So I had a CD player that looks more like a circular telephone it had so many keys and about ninety percent of them didn't work. So, if you're interested in the search function, get uninterested fast, because it doesn't work at all.
Another big disappointment was the color. The CD player looked purple in the picture, but when I received it was more like a washed out pinkish hue rather than purple. So, not only are the folks who designed this CD player in an alternate space/time continuum, they're almost completely colorblind too.
Yet another very irritating feature is that this CD player took forever to read MP3 CD's. It was like being with one of those people you don't particularly like who also can never get to the point of their conversation--they just keep rattling on and on about their mother's underwear while you sit there and stew. First, the CD player has to say 'Welcome', then it has to scan the disc to see what kind of CD it is, then you have to press the play button again to actually play the CD, then it has to figure out what that song's title is and display it on the screen. This whole process must have taken at least thirty seconds at the very least. This doesn't seem long in theory but in the real world where you want to actually do something with your life besides get the CD player to work, it gets very frustrating very quickly. And, oh yeah, you have to press the stop button twice on this bugger to get it shut off and this thing has to think to say 'good-bye' to you before it shuts down. I don't know about you, but I have no plans to develop a intimate relationship with my CD player anytime soon--no matter how 'cool' and 'sleek' it looks. All I want for it to do is turn on, play the stupid CD, do the tricks the company claims it can do, then shut down after I'm done with it. All the social nicieties this CD player displayed really started to grate on me after a while. I felt like I was on a bad episode of 'Seinfeld' every time I used this thing.
Another small but very aggravating feature is that the cover that houses the batteries is impossible to get off. It usually took me several minutes and a butter knife to get the job done. That's not very practical when you work out and need to change the batteries in a pinch. You get very funny looks from people when they see you carrying a butter knife around while jogging. I don't know about you, but I find this worse than having the cover come open and the batteries fall out constantly. At least I can fix that problem with some tape.
All in all, I would recommend that you stay away from this CD player. I guarantee you will come to hate it very quickly. If you want your music fast and like a multi-functional CD player where the multi-functions actually work, I'd say you should look somewhere else.
Nothing is better than this CD player.......2003-11-02
Before you get another CD player, you better get your hands on this. This CD player doen't just play CDs, it also plays MP3s 4 u. It's awesome.

I purchased this CD Player in the "Ice Purple" version, but since that was discontinued I decided to write about the blue one since they are exactly the same. The reviews on the purple version were actually pretty good that is why I decided to buy it! I am very disappointed in this product. The first one I had simply stopped working after a few weeks. Amazon was great and replaced it for me. Now a few months later, the replacement is not working properly. The anti-skip protection is very poor...it simply stops playing at the slightest bump and either jumps to another song, stops completely or resumes where it left off a few seconds later. It eats batteries very quickly and now, again, stops playing for no apparent reason. I don't think it's going to last much longer...what a waste of money!

After learning many opinions on this player, several of which were negative, I decided that I would go ahead and give this product a chance anyway. BIG MISTAKE! Basically, it flat out didn't work. From the very moment I tried it (and with various types of CD's) it would start up and leave a message on the LCD saying "no disc." It was highly frusterating and even the technical support line way inadequate at best. Generally speaking, I like Memorex products. However, this one could be used only as little more than an overpriced jewel case. Even my off-brand cheap one is more reliable.

I bought this off Amazon brand new, and after 1 week, when I put a disc in, nothing would happen when I pushed play or anything. I put brand new batteries in and still, nothing.
DO NOT BUY THIS JUST FOR THE PRICE! SPEND $20 MORE DOLLARS AND BUY A CD PLAYER THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!

I didn't get this brand, i got the MD6445 45 sec anti-shock with car kit...and i'm very sorry i did. I had the unit for 5 days and in the middle of a song it just stopped working! Since then, i keep getting a "no disc" error in the display. Believe me, i suspected the discs were the problem too, and checked them. They were NOT the problem. I did some checking on the internet and it seems that this is a very common problem with Memorex. As a matter of fact, it's a common problem with many, if not all, brands - even Sony! To make matters worse, i went on their website, and they didn't have a customer support link! I won't buy from Memorex again just for that. It's so unprofessional! My suggestion people - whichever brand you buy, keep your warranty and purchase receipts...something that i didn't think to do. You may get lucky and get a good unit, then again, you may be like me and many, many others who threw away a good 40 - 50 bucks - if not more!
poorly designed, not worth your money.......2003-09-19
As noted in other reviews, this product has *very* limited battery life. It didn't come with an AC power source. It also has no hold button, which means I have to take out the batteries when I'm not listening. also, it often can't pause, fast forward or reverse on cd's I've burned myself. Its lid closes so poorly it only plays cd's if I can hold it flat or press the lid down -- definitely not for working out. Overall, a purchase I regret making.

Neat Little System!.......2007-07-19
I purchased this for my son for Xmas (he was 2 at the time) so that he would be able to keep occupied with a DVD wherever we go. It is simple to use, and he can change dvd's and play them all my himself. I love the little stand to prop up the dvd on a table for easy viewing. Believe it or not, ir has stood up to a 2-year's abuse quite well.
There are better choices.......2007-05-30
We used ours for only a few weeks before it failed. First, the front latch broke, which made it hard to close to enable play. Then the rear left hinge broke, making the unit unusable. Interior inspection revealed that both parts were built without much fatigue resistance, making them subject to mechanical failure. The Sony optics and electronics continued to work, but the mechanical case parts were poorly designed. Additionally, the picture is small and grainy, really only suitable for a young child. The max battery life was a bit under 2 hrs and the unit was unable to play when charging. No vehicle adapter was included. Now looking for a more solid replacement; the Disney unit is headed for the junk heap.
