Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 takes the acrobatic and intense 3D flying and fighting dynamic made popular in last year's blockbuster and takes it to a whole new level with exciting new features sure to please die-hard Dragon Ball fans and those new to the franchise. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 offers the complete DBZ mythology from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball GT with a staggering roster of over 120 DBZ heroes and villains and an expansive story mode that allows players to recreate some of the storied confrontations from the TV show, or all-new showdowns of their own with characters that never actually fought in the animated series. Lightning-fast fighting, light RPG and action gameplay elements give players the power to engage in titanic battles set in vast and vibrant 3D highly destructible environments. The game also features levels that are twice the size of those in the original, in-game transformations, tag battles, an all new vanishing attack and complete environmental destruction. A plethora of fighters at your fingertips
In the world of fighting games, there's Dragon Ball Z and there's everything else. DBZ continues to prove why it is the gold standard of anime-based video games with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. The latest installment takes the series to a higher echelon with over 120 playable characters, 16 vast and vibrant destructible environments, and nine different game modes, including single and multiplayer battles. Unique Wii controls allow players to initiate special moves by acting out the real move with the Wii remote and Nunchuk attachment. If players prefer to use a more classic control style, they can use the Wii Classic controller or a GameCube controller (both sold separately).

The powerful fighting action, popular acrobatic and flying dynamics, and role-playing game (RPG) elements that span the entire Dragon Ball series add to this remarkable fighting experience for fans and fighting game enthusiasts. In addition to the unprecedented number of characters, wide selection of massive destructible environments and abundance of game modes, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 features in-game transformations, tag team battles, and a story mode which covers the complete Dragon Ball mythology - offering over 50 hours of gameplay. Additionally, all of the Series' popular characters are selectable fighters or make excellent cameos, such as Trunks (and Kid Trunks), Goku, Krillin, Vegeta, and Super 17. New characters appearing for the first time include Slug, Cui, Pan, Uub, and the powerful Cyborg Tao.

A new environment for fighting
Arenas are more interactive than ever before and provide players with a number of ways to destroy the environment that the battles take place in. Not only are the arenas incredibly large, but many are entirely new to the Budokai Tenkaichi series (11 arenas are revisited from Budokai Tenkaichi 1). All of the arenas provide plenty of space to maneuver your character and perform impressive moves, but never seem so large that you can't concentrate on the fight at hand.

Transformations are once again a major part of gameplay, and the mechanisms that allow a player to transform have been largely untouched from the previous installment. You can also choose to begin in a transformed state if you prefer, however this can make things difficult if you don't have a memorized set of transformations to switch to. Fusions can also be performed, but only in Tag and Free battles are they allowed. This has the side effect of turning some battles into truly epic affairs, as you are likely to extend battles whenever fusions enter the equation!

Multiple modes for multiple fighters
The main story mode, or "Dragon Adventure" mode, covers a wide swath of the Dragon Ball universe from the movies to Dragon Ball Z and GT. Depending on your performance in each battle, the story can and will change to match the outcome of your fighters. If you can collect enough wins in a given portion of the story, you can unlock new characters, powers, and scenes. Ultimate Battle Z mode uses the ladder type tournament system of fighting made popular by the fighting game Mortal Kombat. In this system, players fight one match after another as they climb the ladder of increasingly difficult foes. Each selectable ladder of bouts has a different condition or theme. Once a player completes a ladder, they can unlock other ladders as well as unlock new items.

4 out of 5 stars Nintendo Is Fun Again.......2007-08-15

I bought this game because wii sports was getting old, and I was really excited to hear about the movement controls. I was a huge DBZ Enthusiast back in the day, and everything I ever wanted in a DBZ Game is here. I wish this technology was avaliable when I was younger! The game is fun, not too overly challenging, but difficult enough to keep it interesting. I have not beat it yet, but with over 100 playable characters, I see my purchase of 19.99 lasting longer than anything else I would spend that money on. The graphics are nice, I don't own an HD system, so it looks superior to my xbox, and honestly, the gameplay is important. I love the movement scheme and once you pick it up, it's hard to put it down. Will I buy Tenkaichi 3? Probably not. 2 has everything I want and will be challenging me for a very long time.

5 out of 5 stars Best Fighting Game Available For The Wii Hands Down!.......2007-07-16

I bought this game and was very happy with the improvements from the last Dragonball Z game. The creaters really thought it out when they were deciding on how to incorporate the wii controls. Overall if I had to do it again I would still buy the game over and I suggest that you buy it too!

5 out of 5 stars Best DBZ Game to Date and Great Wii Launch Title.......2007-07-12

I've played every console DBZ to be released in America to date. And with each iteration, more characters are introduced and the gameplay gradually improves and becomes more refined. This title is no exception.

In Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, you fight one on one battles with your opponents by having the camera fixed over your fighter's shoulder. Now this may seem like an awkward angle for a fighting game, but it works well and does a great job of making you feel like you are in the shoes of the character you have chosen. The battles are fought in gigantic landscapes with many destructible objects to knock your enemies into, giving each fight the epic feel that make DBZ battles so exciting.

There's no shortage of replay value here either, as there are but a small sample of characters available when you first start the game. The remaining roster of well over 100 characters is unlocked by playing through the single player game which not only spans the main DBZ sagas, but also most of the movies and the Dragonball GT series. The single player mode represented in this game is quite similar to the one in Dragonball Z Budokai 3 where you are given a map to navigate and can choose to fight optional battles, find dragonballs, or advance the story. It worked well then, and it works well now. In multi-player mode you can play in tournaments, team battles, or your standard one on one fights. One thing I've noticed about multi-player is that the game tends to lag during these types of games for whatever reason.

Considering that this is basically a port of the Playstation 2 version, the graphics are not going to blow anyone away. The characters are completely cel-shaded, much like in its preceding titles, which gives it an authentic anime feel. The characters' special attacks are also well animated and are executed in a very flashy and dramatic flair. As battles progress, the characters suffer "battle damage" when their health depletes, so you can physically tell when they are starting to get weak.

The sounds are what you would expect from an anime based title. The characters are voiced by their respective english voice actors, which can be considered a benefit or a downfall depending on who you're asking. The various sound effects seem like they were lifted directly from the show, which definately adds to the game's atmosphere. These range from Super Saiyans powering up to energy attacks to even that funny sound characters make when they are launched long distances!

The controls in this game are well executed and offer enough configurations to where everyone should be satisfied. The game can be played with either a standard Gamecube controller, or the Wii remote/nunchuk combination. I find the latter to be the most fun, although the learning curve is a bit steep. One has to be conscious of where the cursor is onscreen as this dictates what moves you can do and controls when you block attacks. Also, the nunchuk will control your movement forward and backward, so players also have to watch where this is being aimed as well. Holding down the right combination of buttons will enter you into a "free action" mode which will allow you to mimic the special attacks of your favorite characters. An example of this is Goku's infamous Kamehameha, which you can do by bringing your hands back and then moving them forward really quickly. Any DBZ fan will fall in love with this feature alone as it makes you feel much closer to the action.

With a lengthy single player game, hundreds of characters, and several multi-player modes, it's hard not to recommend this game. Dragonball Z fans, and even fighting game fans will find something to enjoy from this game as it is one of the best launch titles available for the Nintendo Wii. So eat your Senzu Beans, grab your Wii remote, and prepare to power up for the best DBZ game to date!

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect DBZ iteration.......2007-07-11

Tenkaichi 2 is almost everything you want in a DBZ game. The complete roster is present, as are almost all of the signature moves for each character. The destructable environments are present and generally fun (the outdoor wastelands are a little bland, but true to the series) and the combat has been tweaked to mix the best of button mashing and pre-set combo taps (ala mortal kombat.) The Wii motion controls are crips and well executed. The complete storyline is present as well...but...
The only flaws keeping this from being a definitive DBZ game is that the story is mostly told through the announcer, with the animations being either a very abbrieviated version of the announcers story telling, or being completely absent ("so they defeated the evil menace..." without any of the action being shown. Guys get wiped out with genki dama's that are never shown, you just see Goku huffing and puffing.)
The only other flaw is that the item system, while much better than earlier iterations, does not allow you to create unique fighters you can save or trade. You level up the fighters with items and they either have the items pumping stats on them or not. I prefered the system where your equipment unlocked looks, moves, or special transformations unique to each fighter. No big deal, but they do seem to re-invent the wheel with every iteration of the item system.

These cables clear up the picture but they cause the picture to jump at times. The bottom of my screen gets all jumpy. It only happens on my TV when the Wii is on so I know it's the cables. Get the Nintendo cables instead or an S-video set. The Wii isn't HD gaming anyway.

3 out of 5 stars HDTV Wii Connect.......2007-05-31

For anyone who now owns a HDTV, they would need to buy special equipment for their system. Although that is the case with the Nintendo Wii, you would also need to buy a specialty wire connector to hook up the Wii to your HDTV. This one from the third-party company Intec works nicely for some, but it doesn't last as long as the original one Nintendo has made. Although the specialty cable isn't available with the Wii, it is sold seperately through Nintendo's website, and it is a recommended bet. I suggest you buy Nintendo's version instead for the HDTV connection.

There is a descent picture improvement. these cable are 6 foot long, shorter than the one that you have with your wii.

3 out of 5 stars No Optical Support.......2007-03-26

The official description says "An optical input is also included." The Wii does not support optical output. I purchased this cable thinking I would have digital surround sound with the wii. The Wii only supports analog sound through Dolby Pro Logic. There is no included optical cable.

The cables themselves do work fine, just not as the description says.

Reign of Fire UMD Movie From Buena Vista

Amazon.com

The Road Warrior meets Dragonslayer in the briskly entertaining post-apocalyptic action thriller Reign of Fire. Reign of Fire exists primarily to give us a bigger and better dragon than the Vermithrax Pejorative of 1981's classic Dragonslayer, and in that regard, the special effects are mightily impressive; the reptilian fire-breathers are stupendously convincing. While the earlier film offers a richer, more whimsical medieval adventure, Reign of Fire is a fast-moving tale of man versus dragon that takes place in the charred England of 2020, after Earth has been scorched by rapidly multiplying dragons and the aftermath of a futile nuclear counterstrike. Mixing high-tech gadgetry with primitive survivalism, X-Files alumnus Rob Bowman makes the most of his midlevel budget, establishing a lavish castle base for the rugged, adversarial teaming of Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey as dragonslayers on the brink of extinction. With a steady supply of crowd-pleasing highlights, Reign of Fire is a pyrotechnical treat. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE IS ON FIRE!!.......2007-09-18

to each his own opinion i guess, but this movie couldn't have been any better than what it was. the cast, the story, the dragons. i don't think i need to say more, but i will. i loved it. it had a good point, that suspense of man against creature, and that bit of action that we all enjoy. it's a time of struggle, and with only a handful of people left, with only their will to survive, and a world full of hungry dragons who will win. a constant battle between man and beast. the fact that this is fantasy and the beauty of the dragons is what makes this movie great. matthew mcconaughey did his thing in this one. that shaved head, that strength, and that psychotic attitude of his fit him like a glove. he knew what he was doing and he was fighting these creatures with a fury seen only in his eyes. excellent role play by this man. let's not forget christian bale, another very talented actor in my book. here he saw the first, and lives with that every day, so he tries his best to be the leader and the only hope these people have. he stays strong and he fights for the survival of mankind. give this man a role and he delivers way better than the average actor. lots of stars for this one, it did it for me.

4 out of 5 stars 4 Stars for 4 Reasons.......2007-09-06

1. Matthew McConaughey; 2. Christian Bale; 3. Originality; and 4. The Production Aspects - special effects, light, direction, sets, et. al.

Two of the stars I gave are for McConaughey's performance. He takes the character of Van Zan and breathes life, and yes fire, into him, without crossing into pardody or cliche. The movie's title could refer to Van Zan, as easily as it refers to the dragons' destruction of human civilization. Christian Bale gives a fine performance as Quinn, steely resolve tempered with overwhelming concern for the welfare of those he leads. The two characters make an interesting pair. Van Zan is all about killing the dragons. Quinn is all about protecting the few remaining humans in the area. When Quinn and Van Zan are at loggerheads, they inadvertantly tear apart the resolve of the remaining humans in the area. When Van Zan and Quinn act together, the dragons truly have something to fear.

There are lots of movies with, and/or, about dragons. The take on dragons in this movie isn't new - dragons during modern times - but the strength of the characters, writing, and sets put this movie into the realm of "well done" (something about the movie's title has my pun gland working overtime). The movie avoids a lot of in depth explanations about the dragons origins. I think this is a wise decision. The viewer, like the characters, are torn from the every day normality of modern life, into a world where dragons are real. Go with the flow, and enjoy the movie. The sets are amazingly well done - pun intended. The remnants of modern human civilization left after the firestorm of the dragons are vividly portrayed. The dragons are magnificent - simultaneously majestic and loathesome; as well as immortal and vulnerable. Kudo to all who worked on the movie's special effects.

I didn't give the movie five stars because there are some faults. With the exception of the character Creedy (who single-handedly keeps the movie from being 100% grim), the supporting characters, while necessary, are not well introduced. My impression is that some of the supporting characters, especially Alex and Jared, while essential, had a lot of their scenes end up on the "cutting room floor". This left a disjointed feel to Alex and Jared's screen time. I also think that the flow of the movie was interrupted too often with scenes of vehicles traveling on roads. During such scenes I kept thinking, "I get it, I get it! Grim world. Grimy world. Tough world. Technically, a nice shot. Now, get back to the movie!" The traveling vehicle scenes went on just a little too long, losing the momentum of the action.

Overall, I recommend this movie for a great viewing experience.

3 out of 5 stars MST3K Fans Rejoice -- Rifftrax is Here!.......2007-08-24

A post-apocalyptic thriller that substitutes dirt and grime for any inkling of logic and probability, Reign of Fire features shirtless one-upmanship at its finest. The cigar stub chomping Matthew McConaughey is finally chiseled into Mt. RiffTrax, making a gutsy bid to become the hardest working shirtless man in show business since The Swayze himself. Playing the Keanu-esque foil to McConaughey's Swayze, Christian Bale returns every hardened stare, lets no machismo go unanswered, no muscle flex go un-flexed back at, and he'll be damned if he puts a shirt on either. For good measure, the writers also toss in a few dragons, and hint at the existence of thousands more. It's an old fashioned post-apocalyptic dude-off, both on the screen and in the recording booth, as Kevin Murphy joins Mike Nelson for what is sure to be your newest favorite RiffTrax involving dragons.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining.......2007-07-31

This movie was silly, but I enjoyed it anyway. Can you really get enough when it comes to good-looking men fighting dragons?

4 out of 5 stars Decent movie, but back desc is deceptive.......2007-07-18

I went into this movie having known nothing about it but what the blurb on the back said. The blurb gave the distinct impression of damsel-in-distress gets rescued....which this movie thankfully avoids. The plot is so basic it could have been written over breakfast one day...the dialogue is so so, the special effects are decently done, the overall package is nice and short. In truth, the movie pulls very few surprise moves which is refreshing. The characters aren't super developed but they've got a bit of life and backstory to them.

For an end of world type movie, it did all right in my eyes.

    4 out of 5 stars Good...for the most part........2007-05-29

It is true that the camera angles can be a little weird at some times, but it is relativly easy to get around. If it seems that your character is stuck in an area that is imposible to get out of, most of the time you can jump around and find a hidden ledge or doorway. Another thing that can be a problem is the controls. From reading other reviews on this game, I see that other people also found the controls awkward and clumsy. I do not have a game pad for this game, so I stick to the keyboard controls which at first take some getting used to. The controls do seem as if they were made for a console like the Xbox, but after a few deaths due to pressing the wrong button, a player will get a hang of the controls. The magic system in the game is, in my opinion, fantastic. By holding the space bar and pressing a certain action button, Eragon can toss enemies off of edges, catch enemies on fire, shoot an explosive magic arrow, move or break obstacles, and throw spears at enemies. Along with the magic system comes a combat system which again, in my opinion, is really good. Using combinations of attacks, a player can do various manuevers to kill opponents in sometimes very violent ways. By stunning an enemy, a player can perform a variety of different grapples such as spinning and throwing an enemy, holding an enemies arms and launching them with a kick, and an arsenal of versatile moves. Finishing the story mode itself is not where the most fun is. The greatest fun comes when you have a friend or family member play with you. Having a human at Eragon's side instead of an artificial intelligence computer brings surprising entertainment and satisfaction. It is exciting when you go back on a level when you finally thought you had seen everything of the game and find that there is still yet another sword technique to be learned. In conclusion, the game Eragon has a few faults, but they are out weighed heavily by the amazing combat and magic system. This is a great game for a young and relatively new gamer.

4 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.......2007-03-18

When I read the product description, I didn't expect another "Ultima X", and so I am satisfied with both the graphics and the action. One good point is that the first part starts out with what is basically a tutorial (instead of having to memorize part of a manual), and there are other screen tutorials throughout various phases. A previous reviewer is right that it's much easier to play with a gamepad rather than a joystick(much less a keyboard). Bottom line: pure action, little plot, good graphics.

2 out of 5 stars DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-01-29

This game pretty much sucks. It doesn't follow the plot of the movie or the book, the dialouge is awful, and the movies before each level are just plain stupid.

First of all I'd like to say that I loved the book, but the movie is awful. In the game you pretty much run around killing people, so it gets old fast. There is almost no plot to the game, which make it pretty boring. They could of done alot better with this game if they had actually done the stuff that happened in the book.

The next bad thing about this game is the dialouge. In the second level (Carvahall) Urgals and soldiers are attacking the village, which doesn't happen in the book OR the movie, and are slaughtering everyone, yet no one is screaming. I'm serious!!! Huge monsters are attacking and killing people, but they're totally silent!! Also, soldiers say random things all the time, like one time I pushed a guy off a cliff and as he was falling he said, "I regret nothing!" Which is a pretty stupid thing to say if your falling to your death. I would be sceaming histericly.

The movies before each level are also pretty pathetic. Sometimes there's writing in the background, and sometimes the characters turn into drawings.

So, if I were you, I would buy Lord of The Rings Return of the King instead of this. It's older but it's WAAAAAAAY better. See ya!

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this game!.......2007-01-10

Eragon does not work with AOL Security Center or Virus Suite. Tech suport for this game is incredibly poor. They take more than a week to respond and when they do respond they give generic answers. Absolutely no help and no response to specific problems. I should have read the reviews before buying. Too bad, thought since I could get my teenaged boy to read the books maybe we could play a game as a family activity. All our other games and software work with the virus protection we have and I'm not going to go unprotected for one game.

1 out of 5 stars Eragon Game is just an ad.......2007-01-09

This game is so boring. I guess I should've waited to see the movie because I might have been more entertained. I wish I had saved my money.

Great looking case, nice and light. Also like the rpm fan readouts, and temp monitor readouts. The slide out motherboard tray is a +. Draws lots of compliments from everyone that has seen it. Found mine without the power supply, which was a plus for me, as I needed a high powered, power supply to run SLI. Bout a Corsair 620. For the average user the pwer supply that comes with most of these cases seen for sale is OK. I only wish it had 2, 120mm fans instead of 4, 80mm fans. Just a personal thing. The side port vent is nice.
