4 out of 5 stars A Decent Snapshot Camera, but Buy a Newer One.......2006-08-23

I have owned this camera for almost 3 years now, and it is the sturdiest and most reliable one that I have had. Once, I dropped it from 5 feet onto a sidewalk and it didn't even get a scratch. The outdoor picture quality is excellent, as well as the macro mode, but if you have shaky hands (like me), you will have a ton of blurry pics. The screen just can't compete with new cameras, being too small and dim to see outdoors. The flash is weak, but if you know how to use aperture and ISO settings, indoor shots will turn out pretty good. Personally, I think buyers would be better off buying one of HP's new R-series cameras (R717, R817, etc). While this camera is cheap and pretty reliable, the newer models have much more features and are still around $200-$300.

4 out of 5 stars okay.......2006-04-05

this cam was great when untill the flash didnt work! i went online for support but after talking to them, they said it was a internal malfunction or something like that but by then the warrantee already expired so im stuck with a flashless camera. Ive miss many special moments due to no flash. and its really hard taking pictures with no flash and no tripod.

But overall good camera! batteries seems as though they die quick but like i turn it off for like a few hours then the batteries came back to full power again. The video mode is pretty good....i also recommend using the power adapter when possible! that way you can turn the camera on as long as you want without worrying about the batteries dieing out!The printer is a really great printer as well!...but sadly i cant live any longer with a flashless camera so im going to sell this up or just give it to my brother or something and saving up for a Fuji Finepix s5100...Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Solid, Dependable Camera.......2006-02-14

I have owned my hp photosmart 735 for about 3 or 4 years and have never once had a problem with it. It was a dependendable and consistant camera. My friends have many other types and have had to go through repairs and problems but not me. Everything that this camera says it does, it does. I have never had to worry about it quiting on me.
So in my opinon if you are looking for a dependable camera, this I would defintly label as one of them.

4 out of 5 stars use it right, it does the job.......2006-02-02

This was my first digital camera and it's because of this camera that I stuck with HP when upgrading. It's a very good point and shoot camera with enough modes and settings to satisfy those who like fiddling with such things.

Many of the reviews here complain about battery life. Turn off the live display, you don't need it anyway since the viewfinder is accurate. I never got *fewer* than 60 pictures (sometimes more) in two star mode with the live display off, on a pair of 1800 mAh rechargeables. I also had a big difference when I changed the auto shutoff to a shorter time period.

Also, yes, you need a memory card -- but what digital camera doesn't? I had a 64 MB card with mine and only once completely used the card up.

Shutter speed is a little slower than average for the class but fine for everything except action shots. Lens glass is by Pentax and is good quality. No, you won't get digital SLR quality from this camera, but at <$140 it's a great deal.

1 out of 5 stars horrible waste of money.......2005-12-21

You can literally take 8 shots and the camera is dead. I've missed so many photo opps. Definitely NOT worth buying.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Inexpensive but excellent drive.......2007-08-04

The drive comes preformated with FAT32. Thus for most people, you should reformat it to NTFS before putting any data on the drive for better performance. Reformatting takes about 2 hours.

Performance is about the same as other external USB 2.0 drives which means much slower than your internal hard drives. For example, my 3 year old internal ATA Seagate can do sequential read and write at 52.6 and 52.7 MB/s, while the Buffalo can do only 17.5 and 17.6 MB/s. Thus, external USB drives, including this one, should be used primarily for backups or storage; and not for intensive data swapping such as with games or video editing.

The auto power off is a very nice feature. When your computer is off or in hibernate, the drive powers down automatically. There is also a manual off button too. The drive is virtually silent even at random seeks.

I did not install or test any of the programs on the CD. A minor complaint is that the supplied USB cable is only 3 feet long - not quite long enough for my situation. Overall quite satisfied.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but software a little flakey.......2007-07-01

The included power management software is working erratically for me. After installing it, I got several blue screen crashes (Windows XP Service Pack 2). It seems to have settled down now.

The second problem is that whenever the computer comes out of standby, the drive turns on, even though the power manager has been told to turn it off (and thinks it's off). If you use the power manager to "turn on" the drive (even though it's already on), you can then use it to turn the drive off again. Since I put the computer in standby a couple of times a day this is a minor annoyance.

There is a hard power switch on the back that I use to turn it off completely when I'm not going to use it for a couple of days.

5 out of 5 stars Buffalo 500GB DriveStation USB 2.0 External Hard Drive.......2007-06-19

The Buffalo 500GB DriveStation is an excellent purchase for the price. It is a great asset to any computer set-up, whether it be Mac (OS 9.0 and up) or PC (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98SE).

This is the 3rd purchase I've made of Buffalo external hard drives and I am an extremely satisfied customer! Their external drives have always worked seamlessly with my interface whether it be my Sony Vaio PC (formatted NFTS or FAT32), my iMac (formatted FAT32 only), my Pioneer Elite Plasma (formatted NFTS or FAT32) or my PS3 (formatted FAT32 only).

The auto on/off function is invaluable as my DriveStation is placed in a rather inaccessible area of my work desk so I can focus on other peripherals that need more attention. It is completely hot-swappable or plug-and-play as I've suddenly disconnected it, without going through the proper procedures of "Safely Removing the Mass Storage Device" that Windows normally has you perform, with no problems at all. Likewise, the connection to my iMac, Pioneer Elite Plasma, and PS3 is rather immediate as it's instantly recognizable to each respective system, with full read and write access.

I have actually seen this drive cheaper at certain stores when they offer rebates on them but the Amazon price is still a deal, considering how much bang you're getting for your buck. Another thing to mention is that you won't have to use the CD included unless you wish to install the additional software needed to make auto-backups or if you've reformatted the drive to NFTS and want to return it to the originally preshipped FAT32 format. The important thing to note is that you will never want to lose the prepackaged CD because it has the only software needed to format FAT32 over 32GB. Windows XP currently will only format FAT32 up to 32GB, which is really unfortunate if you own a larger external hard drive without this software. Another good thing about this software is that it will format other hard drives, too, so keep it around, it may come in handy some day!
