Quality at a budget price........2006-11-09
I had compared the Kingston with other similiar CompactFlash Cards prior to buying and was impressed by the reviews both on Amazon and offsite. I recently went to China and took hundreds of pictures with this CompactFlash card. The storage compacity is fantastic. I was wondering the quality would be, given I have only used Cannon brands before. I thought it would take awhile to download the over 400 pics I took, but it transferred under a minute. The quality was truly impressive, making me reconsider by mind about always buying Cannon brand, as they are so expensive. Kingston is not only at a budget price, but the quality you demand!

I have been using this 512 MB Kingston card at the suggestion of a professional, newspaper photographer. My Cannon Digital SRL, 8 Megapixel camera seems to enjoy it, since it produces wonderful pictures without any trouble. Would recommend it without hesitation.

I've taken over 900 photos for a acrossthestreetfilms.com, constantly filling up the card and unloading them onto a laptop and have not had any problems. The card is fast, reliable and is offered at an excellent price! At the full 6.3mp JPEG resolution, I was able to fit 170 photos onto the card all at once. My old card had a problem with speed once the card was reaching max capacity, but the kingston worked like a champ all the way through. (...)

BEWARE of Kingston REBATES!.......2005-10-30
Beware of KINGSTON rebates!
Of course, I hope your experience would differ, if you were to buy Kingston product(s), but mine was terrible.
I bought a Kingston CompactFlash card that offered a $50 mail-in rebate. I promptly (as in, the day AFTER I received the item delivery) went to photocopy my rebate certificate and UPC code and sales receipt; then sent it all on its merry way. Yes, I was well within the rebate period, both for the purchase AND for the postmark date. My purchase was a valid retailer (think HUGE online e-tailer).
The rebate REQUIRED sending THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL UPC label, which was like the entire outside package for my CF card, about the size of 1 ½ business cards when flattened. No problem.
About TWO MONTHS later, I get a letter saying "your rebate request was denied because you failed to furnish the appropriate ORIGINAL UPC code as required by the rebate offer."
Well, now WHAT? I can't RE-SEND the original (it was already in their possession). I called, and they insisted on repeating what the letter said. I re-sent my PHOTOCOPIES and they said a photocopy is invalid proof of purchase.
After another 6 weeks of pursuing this, I figured this is their scam. They simply wouldn't honor the rebate. And without the ORIGINAL UPC in my possession, I couldn't really submit to their requirements.
If you're looking for a RAM upgrade, I'd suggest you look at a quality company like OCZ (the BEST!), or Patriot, Geil, or Corsair. If you're looking for a value Flash Memory Card, I might suggest SanDisk.
For one, Kingston does NOT make the best products, they are VALUE-driven products.
Two, there are competitors to Kingston with just as good or better value-to-performance ratios at the same prices.
Three, Kingston will not stand behind their customer as I have experienced.
I urge you to, please, be cautious of Kingston and their rebate scams.

First rate DACs, clean amp, difficult interface.......2003-05-14
The sound produced by the Cirrus Logic Crystal 192KHz/24-bit digital-analog converters (DACs) is spectacular. The amplification is both powerful and low noise. I've never heard this degree of clarity before. This Harman Kardon is replacing a very nice Linn CD player and amp with 24-bit Burr-Brown DACs that sounded warmer than the Harman Kardon.
I bought this unit for its DACs and the number of digital inputs it accepted, its video switching capability, and its low distortion amplification. I might get around to buying surround or a subwoofer, but I'd prefer a unit with 1/4 of the electronics and a simpler interface; they're simply not available. I do appreciate the number of audio inputs. I'm plugging in optical input from a Turtle Beach Audiotron, S/PDIF input from a DVD/CD player, S/PDIF input from my workstation/home theater, and plan to plug in an optical input from a Sony Playstation 2. After all that, the input cables and a single stereo pair of speaker cables look lonely among the dozens of back-panel inputs.
I wanted this kind of processing for my home theater PC and my computer-based CD collection. The Audiotron is a wonderful device that allows MP3s or full CD-resolution WAV files to be read from a network and piped into a home-theater receiver like this one; CDs sound the same ripped to disk full resolution and played back through the Audiotron as they do from the DVD player or computer's digital inputs. My computer provides S/PDIF output, so DVD soundtracks (or CD audio) can be passed to the receiver for decoding the same way as they can be passed from the DVD player.
The downside to this receiver is that it is absolutely impossible to set up without (a) the manual, (b) the remote, and (c) an S-video monitor to display the menus you're navigating. Some understanding of surround sound and digital music encoding formats, crossovers, and room acoustics will help in deciphering the configuration menus. I haven't read the documentation on the remote, so most of the buttons and markings are meaningless to me. On the positive side, it's easy to switch sources once they're set up and there's a nice big volume knob, albeit one that requires a lot of spinning to move the volume significantly. I haven't tried other models, so these comments shouldn't be read comparitively; configuring a home theater is a difficult task to pack into a front panel and remote. And if that wasn't enough complexity, this receiver also features video switching, which I am using to route a DVD player, VCR, and soon, the PlayStation2 into my monitor.
In the end, the amazing sound and number of inputs won me over in the face of an extremely challenging interface.

Sound:
Sound is crystal clear. Best sound i have heard. Make sure you setup the channels right and the speaker to large if you have towers. This receiver gives you very precise control. EZ setup takes all the guesswork out but I prefer to do it manually.
I have a digital connect running from the CD player to the AMP, sound is perfect with a lot of depth.
Make sure you have in the least a 12 gauge wire to the speakers this receiver can drive 35 amps. Power is more than enough at 55 Watts X 7 channels. I only use 5, hope to use 7 soon. I cannot drive the volume even half way without the whole room starting to move. So these watts are high AMP watts and again no distortion, does not matter what volume level it is at.
Looks, build and functionality:
This puppy is very sturdy and looks are beautiful, you need a big transformer to be able to pump out those AMPS. You get what you pay for if you buy those toys from other companies which offer sleek models. There are plenty of ports at the back for all sorts of connections. A lot of modes and options.
One tip to consider when buying a receiver is the THD value, the lower it is the better. The receiver has a THD of 0.07% . Most cheap receivers will above .5% . Also consider there are 7 channels in this puppy.
Overall I just cannot get over the fact how clean and powerfull the sound is. Worth every penny if you ask me.

AVR-65.......2002-12-26
The Denon AVR-65 is a very dependable unit with as many options as you can use. I have a Phillips DVD, Panasonic VCR, and Sony CD Jukebox connected to this unit. The only issue I would take the the AVR-65 is the remote programming to handle non-native components and the lack of a component or S-Video switching option on the back. Otherwise, this is a great unit. It came with a full set of speakers which have also performed well.

Drops DSL connections over time.......2004-09-12
I bought the CPS825AVR to replace a regular Belkin SurgeMaster II. After two months of use, I felt confident in my surge protection, including on the phone line. But gradually, I would lose my DSL connection once a day and then once every three hours until eventually, I couldn't sync to the Central Office at all. This loss despite the fact that the Cyberhome icon in the desktray indicated that it was properly functioning.
Not realizing the Cyberhome was the problem (because I'd never had a problem with all the other surge protectors I've used), I'd reboot the modem, reboot my Netgear router, or the failsafe: reboot my PC. It wasn't until I lost DSL connectivity altogether that my brain kicked in gear and I unplugged the phone line from the UPS and connected it directly to the modem.
Wal-la!! Connectivity restored and has since never been lost. The other gripe with this unit is that the USB cord from the UPS to the PC is only about 3.5 feet long so your PC/UPS placement is severely constrained unless you buy a USB extension cable.
I wouldn't recommend this unit despite it's price. With the problems described above, I suggest you pay a little more for a more-recognizable brand like APS or Belkin.
Inexpensive, quality alternative to APC.......2004-06-13
First off, I bought the 900AVR model, but it doesn't appear to be sold at Amazon at the time of this writing, and this is the closest model I found. I bought it over two years ago, and it's still going strong, having kept my computer going through a power outage many times, and I've had no problems related to power spikes and the like. When I'm not there to gracefully close out Windows, the bundled software will automatically put it through a shutdown sequence after a configurable timeout. The software I have does have a bit of an amateur presentation, but it works fine, and it very well may have been updated in the past two years. When I bought it, it was with some trepidation, as Cyber Power was not one of the major name brands in the field, but I decided the significantly lower price was worth the gamble, and I'm glad I took it. Of the four UPS's I've owned, all different brands, I've had the best experience with this one.
