Product Description

The DVDR75 allows consumers to quickly and easily transfer their favorite videotapes and broadcast programming to DVD. The DVDR75 features i.LINK for digital copying from camcorders, allowing consumers to digitally preserve their favorite past and future family moments. In addition, the DVDR75 features progressive scan for razor sharp pictures and top quality sound. Including VCRPlus for easy timer programming and up to six hours of video recording per side, the DVDR75 provides consumers a more affordable DVD Recording option.

Amazon.com Product Description

Capture, edit, and preserve precious memories with the Philips DVDR75 DVD player/recorder. Using the model's extensive inputs--including an i.Link digital video jack--you can transfer and assemble your most treasured camcorder footage, archive old video tapes, or burn video from a PC straight to high-capacity DVD (up to 6 hours per disc side using either DVD+R or DVD+RW). The unit's onboard Virtual Time Base Corrector ensures better-than-original copies from old video tapes.

You can also use the DVDR75 like a VCR, burning televised programs directly to disc using helpful VCR Plus+ programming data. Recording functions include safe record, one-touch record (OTR), track append, track divide, track erase, automatic/manual chapter marker insertion, disc write protection, favorite scene selection, index picture screen for instant content overview, and Selectable Index Pictures.

The DVDR75 is also a first-rate DVD player, featuring progressive-scan video outputs, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound passthrough, MP3 CD playback (CD-R/CD-RW), and compatibility with most DVD media (including video-mode DVD-R and DVD-RW).

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVDR75 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Top-of-the-line component-video inputs and outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video inputs and outputs bring compatibility with nearly any video component and television monitor. Audio inputs consist of two-channel analog jacks with 16-bit analog-to-digital conversion and Dolby Digital 2.0 audio compression (compression is non-defeatable).

Two sets of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: 3D Surround simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on a TV).

What's in the Box
DVD recorder, remote control, batteries, user's manual (in English only), one blank DVD+RW disc, an AC power cord, a stereo audio interconnect, a composite-video cable, an S-video cable, and a coaxial RF antenna cable.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars DVD Workhorse.......2007-07-24

I've been using this DVD-R75 recorder for 2.5 years with only the occasional coaster while recording to various brands of DVD+Rs. This machine seems to like the Fujufilm DVD+Rs best.

I especially like that I'm able to select a screen shot for the thumbnail in the menu and also write whatever title I want for the program.

In the title I called it a workhorse for a reason. It's been faithfully serving the role once held by a VCR in time-shifting. I work straight night-shift so without a faithful recorder I would miss anything I wanted to watch in prime-time. I simply set it and forget it and it records over and over on DVD+RWs which I can then erase and use over again the next day (either individual titles or the entire disc - at my option).

The only minor thing I've run into is that sometimes it will overwrite titles on DVD+RW discs if I'm not careful to position the disc where a 'FREE TITLE' exists. I don't think this is a problem with the machine but is inherent in the DVD+RW format since files can't be marked as protected on them.

I purchased this machine on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving 2004) and have never regretted it.

Even without using the component outputs the picture still looks better than from a top-of-the-line VCR and with Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo sound.
I've also used the firewire port (iLink) to download video files from my digital camcorder with great success and no degradation in quality.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.......2007-02-25

We purchased this product new for $500.00. It never worked correctly. The video to DVD transfer was never true from the originals. It would make it too bright. It's also extremely sensitive, so if your video is snowy, it may not record it or skip parts. It crashed while watching DVDs. Every time I tried to contact them, they would have me speak to someone in India and I would only get software upgrades. This product has also been discontinued. Philips products are terrible and their customer service is even worse. I also had color issues with one of their TVs. I wasted much of my money and time. I hope you won't do the same.

BEWARE: DVDs are non-standard & incompatible

I am bitterly disappointed with the Philips DVDR-3400 recorder, and suppose that all of its line has the same problems.

I did not find out until I had burned 300+ DVDs that the disk directory structure created by these Phillips machines is defective. The main title on the disk you make will appear to "play" on your home DVD player... but ALL of the post-recording edits made (cutting out parts you didn't want etc.) are LOST.

AND most PC-based DVD players and other software won't handle the disk, so if you wrote your home movies to disk for long-term archiving, you're out of luck.

I don't know how a company the size of Phillips can release such a piece of crap. They HAD to know of these problems. I am sick to think of the time I have lost. All I have is junk to show for it. And yes, I did everything right (finalizing the disks etc).

Add to this the terrible remote control with rubbery, no-feedback keys that often don't work; little provision for using the deck for playback, etc. etc. (read other's complaints) and you have a real loser here.

I bought my first Phillips tape recorder in 1968. I will never buy another Phillips product.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money - DO NOT BUY!.......2006-05-25

I have owned this recorder since October 2003 and it worked wonderful for about 12 months or so. Right after the one-year warranty mark was over...it started to shut itself off. Sometimes it would go as much as 50 minutes before shutting off and other times, it shuts off the first couple of minutes. Either way, I have tried calling customer support prior to the warranty period being offer, and they insisted that I have received a replacement unit. Not true. To be honest, I cannot tell you how many times or hours I have wasted with these people and got nothing. I am going to sale the lame thing in my garage sale for probably $25.00....that is $325.00 less than what I bought it for. It's worthless....but another brand. I will never ever in this lifetime own any other product by Philips again. Very bad customer service.

2 out of 5 stars Just like everyone else........2006-05-12

Well from reading the other reviews I can only add the same ole same ole. Purchased in Nov 2003 worked pretty well until 2 months ago.Seems like we are reaching the max use range on this product. Disk errors started cropping up, would not read the disk it just wrote too etc. etc. I just got word from the repair store today and the laser lens is shot and $350 to repair, needless to say what my decision was. Less than 3 years of use and now I have a VERY expensive DVD player. (while that lasts but who knows for how long). Customer "no service" at Philips could seem to care less. They spend 10 minutes getting your personal information and 3 minutes on diagnosis. All in all I can't recommend the machine or the company. I may make the same mistake on a different manufacturer or model but I won't make it again on a Philips product.

1 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality.......2007-03-13

I returned the phone, which was quite attactive by the way, because it had poor sound quality. Callers heard voices as very muffled and hard to understand. On my end, the sound was OK, a bit harsh on high volume and slightly muffled on the low setting.
I tried to overlook this shortcomming, but it is a phone afterall, and performance should take priority.

                      Product Description

The iMP-50 combines renowned iRiver audio quality with the unique engineering of the world's first inverted CD loading system. It plays the CDs you've burned with hundreds of your favorite songs as well as your collection of standard music CDs.

                      Amazon.com Product Description

The innovative iMP-50 comes stacked to the gills with features like broad format compatibility, pre-buffering anti-skip protection, firmware upgradeability, a graphic LCD with multi-language display, and packet-write format readability so the player can double as a hard-drive extension (using data CD-RWs).

The player supports music CDs, home-made CD-R and CD-RW with MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), multi-session discs (discs burned at different points over time), and Microsoft's Advanced Systems Format (ASF). New formats such as AAC, MP3 Pro, and so on can be supported in the future through a simple firmware upgrade. The iMP-50 also supports Winamp playlists as long as they use the file extension *.m3u (maximum 20 lists).

The player gives you a healthy four minutes anti-skip protection for MP3 and WMA files. By applying iRiver's own special algorithm, the iMP-50 provides better performance against shock than standard anti-skip algorithms. At the same time, iRiver maximizes protection at the beginning of songs through pre-buffering.

The iMP-50's graphic LCD that supports multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, other alphabet-oriented fonts, Korean, Japanese (Katakana, Hiragana, and Kanji), and others. It supports a total of 36 languages.

With MP3 and WMA files, the iMP-50 can play for 16 hours on two AA alkaline batteries (supplied) or seven hours with audio CD playback. Additional formats such as AAC, MP3 Pro, and so on may be supported in the future through a simple firmware upgrade.

Eight equalizer presets, a custom EQ mode, and separate electronic bass and treble controls are all at your disposal when it comes to tailoring the sound to your taste or compensating for speakers, headphones, or listening environment. A hold switch prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. Other features include repeat and shuffle play, resume, bookmarking, sound fade in, intro scan, and track programming.

                      What's in the Box
CD player, earphones, car cassette adapter, 2 AA batteries, and a user's manual.

                      4 out of 5 stars Good Player.......2006-02-05

I have been using this product purchased from Amazon since early 2004. So far I have a good experience with this, it plays all kinds of audio cds, even the scratched ones!

It drains the batteries very fast though, thank God that I have rechargable batteries! :)

                      Good investment over-all!

3 out of 5 stars good buy, but not an all-purpose player.......2005-04-23

I've been using the iMP-50 off-and-on for about a year. Here are some suggestions:

                      1. Stick with disposable alkalines. This unit seems to need 3 volts. Fully charged NiMh start with a lower voltage, and you won't get much play-time. You will experience low-voltage symptoms almost immediately, and will end up spending ages waiting for your disks to load. The NiMh cells will lose additional charge between use. Remember, this unit is not built to handle frequent cell-swapping.

                      2. Use external power for playing standard CDs. Battery-life when playing uncompressed audio is pretty bad, and gets worse if you skip tracks and swap disks.

                      2. Make sure that the battery door is fully engaged. When new, the door can "click" closed, but still not be latched. Check it visually.

                      3. You may have problems reading some CD-R audio that work fine on other players. Every CD-R I've bought from performers is unreadable, though copies I've burned myself work ok.

                      4. Anti-shock seems fine. The default 10 seconds for CDs is good enough for driving on rough roads.

Overall, if you stick with MP3, and use disposable alkalines, the iMP-50 is a handy device.

4 out of 5 stars Works for me.......2004-08-09

Still using v1.00 firmware that shipped with it. Had it for about 9 months now.

Remembers where you are in 10 cds, which what I need for audiobooks. Seems to handle any bit rate. No problems with mine, except that it occasionally locks up when I fast forward too fast several tracks at a time. But has a +20 track feature that I should use instead. Buttons are little hard to figure at first, but after a few days no problem. Does MP3 ID3 tags, display a little small, but ok. Takes a little while at first track, maybe 12 secs, but ok after that. No AC ps, but has car stuff. Ear buds that come with it are ok, but plan on buying something else to suit your ears/taste.

Also got Sony CD Walkman belt case CD Case3, about 10 bucks. iRock Beamit, $30 bucks Rat Shack, sends to any FM radio. Use 4 2000mAH NiMH batts from WalMart. Swap out 2 at a time. A pair
lasts about 5 days at about an 1 1/2 hour a day.

3 out of 5 stars not great for car usage.......2004-05-28

i got this cd player for my half hour commute to work. It's a great price, but the design is inconvienant. to change cd's you have to turn the player over on it's back. the battery cover opens quit frequently and subsequently ends up scratching the hell out of cd's- because the unit continues to spin the cd.

however the battery life is much better than my old cd player that was about 13 years old. the buttons are different sizes- so it's easy to feel out what button you want to push... but it's still a little awkward. it's a great price and the sound is good quality. i just took away 2 stars because it's not very utilitarian for road warriors.

                      3 out of 5 stars A so-so player that works, but..........2004-05-26

I bought this thru Amazon & with rebate, it only came out to around $30. The main useage for this unit is at work , hooked to an ac adapter & a set of Monsoon speakers. It seemed to have a lot of options as far as the display & flexibility to handle both mp3 & wma format (although I never use/have any wma)
Build wise, it feels cheap. The door (which is on the bottom, and ends up being much more of a nuisance that I originally thought it would be)moves around on it's hinges. Major hassle to reload discs. Sound quality is fine, but it seems to have major trouble reading discs that play flawlessly in my other players. You can hear that skriiitching noise is it tries to find it's way.
I only used it a few times on batteries, and as reported by many others, 16 hours per set playing mp3 is a dream (or better yet, a myth) I had updated the firmware from the iRiver website, but did not notice any improvements. So in summing up this player...I guess I got what I paid for. A cheap player.

                        Product Description

The MIL-130A converts without adding repeater count to the network. The unit does not re-time data, nor do it reduce the number of repeaters allowed on the network. This product is fully IEEE 802.3 compliant. The MIL-130A is ideal for connecting older 10BASE5 networks to 10BASE links, or for allowing the network administrator flexibility in choosing what media needs to be connected to 10BASE-T. This device is ideally suited for connecting small 10BASE2 segments to 10BASE-T runs.
