This means you can burn MP3s from your computer onto a recordable CD (software included). The SM200C supports CDs of up to 200 tracks. To make finding a specific song easier, the SM200C supports ID3 tags. ID3 tags contain a small amount of data about an MP3 file, such as title and artist name, that can be displayed by the player. So, instead of trying to remember what track number a certain song is, you can see the song title while scanning through the disk, making it much easier to find the song you want. The SM200C will automatically scan the disc to determine if it's a regular audio CD or MP3 encoded--no special settings on the player are necessary--and will support encoding bit rates of 32 to 320 Kbps.

I just bought the Pine SM-200C+ player and it's best player you can get for your money. It has 50 secs anti-shock, eq, rechargable batteries and random (features that the SM-200C is missing). I was originally going to get the Sonicblue Rio Volt 250. But after reading all the reviews of it dying just days/weeks after people ordered it, I decided on saving myself [money] and got this player instead. It has almost all the same features for half the price!

It doesn't have a back-lit display, remote & isn't upgradable, but I dont need any of that stuff anyways. The back-lit display would just drain your batteries, the buttons on the remote are too small and if a product works with no problems from the start, there is no need to upgrade the firmware.

Don't buy this unit at any price. I bought it a long time ago because it was the only one on the market at the time, and I liked the idea of playing MP3 CD-RWs. You can read other reviews and see the same complaints, but here are my chief complaints:
1. It skips horribly at the slightest provocation, anti-shock or not. This problem alone made me throw it out after I got my Sony, rather than subject someone else to this frustration.
2. Battery life (rechargable NiMH) is 2-3 hours.
3. It displays "Unknown tag" if the file has no ID3 tag. It could display the file name instead.
4. The supplied AC adapter often refuses to work for no reason.
5. The supplied earphones are horrible.
6. It's difficult to navigate through tracks. It plays files in directories but doesn't allow you to navigate directories. Everything is treated as being in one big directory.
7. Hitting "Next" while in shuffle mode actually goes to the next file sequentially, rather than picking a track randomly.
8. The user's manual is a useless short pdf.

There are better players on the market (i.e. every other player). Buy one of those. SERIOUSLY!

Nothing to like.......2001-07-18

I bought a Philips Expanium and returned it for this player thinking that I wanted to see the song titles.

Reasons not to by this player:(1)This player is made very poorly. It feels like it is going to break. The paint on the buttons has already started to rub off and I barely use the device. (2) It skips worse than my Sony discman that is almost 10 years old. In the car you find yourself hearing snippets of the songs. It will even skip sitting on a table across the room (there was no dust on the CD). I'm not sure what's wrong with the player but sometimes it is simply unable to play an MP3 for no good reason (3) The headphone jack is finicky. You'll find yourself listening to mono for a while and realize that you have to push the headphone plug into the jack again. (4) Battery life is exceptionally bad. I'm lucky to get 3 hours out of the player. That's not enough to last me one day while I'm at work. Even though it comes with a rechargable battery pack, the battery gauge is still calibrated for alkalines so it looks like you have half of the battery life remaining right after a charge. (5) The ID-3 take support is pointless. If you haven't painstakenly labeled each one of your songs then you'll end up listening to "Unknown Tag" all day. It does NOT default to the file name if there is no ID-3 tag. Get the Rio Volt. Even though it has that annoying dancer at the bottom of the LCD screen, it's worlds better than this device.

Good paper weight!.......2001-05-16

I have an SM200C... I wanted it so that I could travel and listen to MP3's, in the car on the plane etc.. Without testing it out first, I went on a vacation and nearly jumped out of the car when it skipped MP3 CD's like a schoolgirl skipps rope!

It skipps, it's readout does not have a light so that you can see it in the dark, the readout reads from very little angles, and the sinleg button interface work poorly when looking at the road and trying to change songs. I found myself hitting stop and pause alot!

Also if you plan on listening to something longer than 10 minutes, don't! It plays the first 5 minutes, and then skipps past!

LOOKING FOR A GOOD MP3 CD PLAYER>>> Look elsewhere!

I have tried out this player at some store and I was just disappointed.

The first things to look in the best players are: -Long battery life

-Great skip-protection

-Though body

This player has a very short battery life(3hr) and the skip-protection of 10 sec is pointless. For a player at this price(without mail-in rebate since it's not garanteed to get it), we could get something better with a solid body.

The sound quality is fair, but sometimes there's static or annoying sounds.

I recommend to use it by laying it on a table and the skip-protection is there so that you can move it a bit. In that case, you don't need batteries so just use the indoor adapter. So would you pay a little bit more to buy the same player except that you can carry it with you while listening to it? That's why barely one star is worth rating.

For those who are still using ni-cd batteries, this player is going to drain them in an hour or an hour and a half!

Some smart people use it while it's quiet around and they just sit there doing whatever they want. That's why skip-protection is THAT important! I was about to buy this player, but I won't use cuz I usually listen music outdoors...

And also from the date it was in stores in Canada, the price is (glups!) 233% of the American price...

I connected the Harmon Kardon 6 piece Home Cinema Speaker System to my Sony 53" TV the whole place was change to a movie theatre effect. The Sub Woofer is great and makes special sound effect come to life. I recommend it to anyone. The speakers are all compact size and I had to by 2 stands for the front right and left speakers for $... from HK store via the internet. Great product........I love it.....

Surprising sound.......2001-07-12

My Dad asked me to help him shop for a home-theatre system.

We found these HKs for a very reasonable price. After installing the new system, we put in the DVD, Gladiator. I can't even begin to tell you how incredible these speakers sound. I would compare the sound quality to the demo rooms at most home audio/video stores where you have to spend a couple to a few thousand dollars to replicate their sound quality.

The satellite speakers are bright, crisp and clear. The sub is tight as well as being able to give the wall-shaking, guttural rumble you're craving when watching Apollo 13 take off from the launching pad.

I don't want to sound like a spokesperson for Harmon Kardon, but trust me. Go and buy this system (along with a nice receiver w/ DTS) and you'll understand what I'm talking about!

Harmon Kardon 6 Piece Speaker System Review.......2001-04-10

This is a very nice home theatre speaker with outstanding bass response. The main reason I chose this speaker was because of the excellent home theatre sound quality for it's size and price. I don't have any regrets. It has excellent, deep bass which can go very low. You cannot find a subwoofer that can go this low for this price. Hearing a loud explosion let's say in a James Bond film is an unbelievable experience. You could feel the walls shake. It's not a bad audio speaker either. Usually, I put it in 6 speaker mode when I listen to music. It is pretty good in the 2 way mode where only the subwoofer and the 2 main speakers are active, however, the crossover transition from the low to highs are not that great typical of most lower priced home theatre speakers. When you put it in 6 way, the frequency is separated out much better and the sound quality is really nice. I am actually use to hearing music this way and the sound is very delightful. I am not an audiophile and cannot imagine spending more than $1,500 on a speaker system. I use to switch to floor standing speakers that cost more than the HK system for music (B speakers) and to the HK for Dolby Digital, DTS or Prologic, but I got rid of the bulky floor standing speakers and use the HK for both music and video now. I actually think the sound of this HK in the 6 way mode is better than my old JBL speakers which I put away in the attic until I find a house with more room. I don't think you could get this quality speaker at this price. It is a great home theatre speaker and a decent speaker for music as well. I also like the fact that the speakers are very small since my family room is not that large.
