Cheaply made.......2007-02-14
This product works as advertised, but the construction, design and materials of the plastic housing are inadequate. Mine broke during the first week by merely opening the hinged door to the memory stick area.
The plastic used to manufacture the housing is extremely brittle. Moreover, the hinges are made of the same plastic and are durable for only a few openings.
Don't buy this product!
Not Awesome; Not Terrible.......2007-02-12
There aren't many readers out there that deal with the Memory Stick Pro Duo, and this one is quite acceptable. I bought two for us to use, primarily for their compact size (considerably smaller than its closest competitor, although that one reads more kinds of cards).
I like how firmly the cap snaps on, keeping me from losing it somewhere, but buyers should be aware that its key ring attachment area will require fortification if they intend to use that feature. We actually superglued a new loop that we sawed off from a bottle-opener key ring onto this case after one unit gave out, and it was such a solid fix that we did it to the other one before it broke. Seeing as the first unit belongs to a fidgeter, he also managed to damage a hinge on the door, but this responded to superglue as well.
These limitations aside, it transfers data as fast as I've ever needed, and I've never had a problem with it functioning or being recognized or anything.
OVERALL:
It's small, it's as attractive as I think I'm able to demand, it does what I need it to do, but it does have some fragility about it. Nothing that would interfere with its functions, but somewhat annoying.

I found it somewhat difficult to use. It was hard to remove the memory card after use, and the hinged door was kind of sticky. It is a great size for carrying around in your briefcase, but for day-to-day use I would look elsewhere.

This was an affordable solution to put some life back into a couple of ms I had laying around. The product works great but it is a little cheap feeling and gets pretty hot. That being said I use it at my work computer all day long and have not had a problem yet.

It is small and portable. It is not very pretty but is useful. Works great and gets high data transfers rates. Although, it saves your camera's battery life.
Iogear should include and USB cable extension and a cord to tranport the device.

I bought the MSAC-US30 Memory Stick reader because it's the one specified in the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) manual. It's the only reader that's completely compatible with all Memory Stick and Memory Stick Duo media.
The term "Memory Stick" by itself refers to the original Memory Stick flash memory card made by Sony (and a handful other manufacturers like Lexar, Sandisk and TDK). "Memory Stick Duo" is the second generation of Memory Stick, and it's much smaller than the original Memory Stick. Within each generation (MS and MS Duo), there's the standard media and the "PRO" media, which has faster speeds and is better suited for high-speed video devices, i.e., most of us (including PSP owners) don't need the PRO line of MS or MS Duo. To further complicate things, some Memory Sticks (original or Duo) feature the so-called MagicGate technology, which is a copy-protection scheme used only by Sony.
Ok, so this reader is the only one that can read all these Sony-proprietary Memory Stick formats. (The only other USB reader I know of that can read Memory Stick Duo is the Sandisk 12-in-1 reader, but that one has poor quality, slow speed and is not MagicGate compatible.) Which Memory Stick should you get? Here's my take:
1) If you plan to store Sony's ATRAC3 or ATRAC3Plus encoded music files (i.e., those ripped from CDs using Sony's SonicStage software, or those bought at Sony's Connect Music Store), you must use a MagicGate Memory Stick.
2) If you plan to use flash memory in the latest Sony camcorders or the Playstation Portable (PSP), you must buy a Memory Stick Duo card. (Think of MS Duo as Sony's answer to Secure Digital, whereas the original-sized MS competes with CompactFlash.)
3) If you use something that requires high-speed access (e.g., certain Sony digital cameras and camcorders), you should get a Memory Stick or Memory Stick Duo that's PRO-designated.
I know this is all very confusing, and it took me a while to figure out. In fact, the story doesn't end here; users of older Memory Stick cards know some of them used two separate memory chips inside a singular MS card. Anyway, e-mail me gadgester @t hotmail if you have any questions.
Great Idea!.......2004-02-18
Ok, so I go into Best Buy to buy this thing which I bought for my son and have no idea what it does. So when I get it home, he takes his Memory Stick from his camera and sricks it into the reader. He has to do a project for school so he saves his project onto the stick, takes it to school, prints it out, and he gets it. Good idea if you don't want to spend huge $$$ for flash drives.

VERY disappointed! It was wonderful with Windows 98, but the driver recommended to download for use in XP doesn't help at all. Sony has no answer. Am also finding that using the memory stick to transport Word or Excel data frequently corrupts the files and loses data. Seems the memory stick is best left to use in cameras then viewed through directly hooking up to the computer.

Don't expect to use it with Windows XP.......2003-01-29
I bought the reader a few weeks ago and used it with Windows 2000 and it worked great. I then upgraded to XP and found that the drivers would not work, I went looking for new drivers and found that the US1A will not support XP and that I have to spend more money to buy the new model reader US20 to be able to read my memory sticks with XP. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed with SONY in this case.
Don't like it.......2003-01-11
This thing was recommended to be used for transferring files from the camera instead of using the USB cable when I had lost the latter. It turned out to be a bit unstable and have destroyed some precious picture files while transferring to my XP computer. I recommend sticking with the cable direcly connected to the camera instead, and if you loose the cable, try buying it from cables-to-go.
Sony has poor support.......2002-07-16
This is a great product and it worked great with Win98 but when I upgraded to XP, it did't fly. Sony's suggestion was to use 2000 drivers, but that didn't work either. XP has been out over a year and still Sony has not written drivers for it. If you don't use XP this is an easy to use device, but if you do...beware.

While it's pretty basic, it works really well.
Pros:
-It's a decent mouse AND it's a memory stick hard drive using ONLY ONE USB.
-I use the memory stick for my camera, but I've also used the mouse and the stick as a poor man's thumb drive.
-It has served me well on my PC and my Mac, and seems to be plug and play with all 4 of our computers.
-Has a thumb "knob" similar to a wheel, think of it a more like a joystick... I press it up or down and my screen scrolls continuously
-Optical "ball-less" mouse, so it doesn't pick up dirt
-Has a red access light to tell you that insertion of a memory stick was understood
-Plug and play on all the Macs and PCs I have tried, about 10 total
Cons:
-Only reads the one type of memory stick (won't read SD or others as the slot is one size) and only in a limited number of MB... max 128 MB
-Heavier than other mice
-No wireless option
Neutral:
-Mouse click is louder than most, might be a feature might be annoying... I am neutral
Bottom line: I bought a second one for convenience... it's great. I keep using it even after buying a new computer... it has survived 4-5 new computers in our family while the mice that came with those computers have not fared as well.
A little disappointing.......2005-07-06
It should be noted, that while all of its functions perform properly on Mac OS X (mousing, right-clicking, memory card reading), that the scroll knob is just that, a nob, not a wheel. It slides forward or back, springing to its state in the middle an eighth inch back and forth. Again, it's not a scroll wheel, but a type of switch that slides toward the mouse cable, and back toward the hand, a big detriment to scrolling.

I've had this mouse for a while now and its never given me any problems. It's optical eye is top notch and the reader/writer functions are flawless. If you want a deviced to help you transfer memory stick files and doubles as a mouse, this is it. If you're looking for a universal flash reader, this is not for you or if you're looking for a super mouse with extra buttons for web browsing, this isn't it either. It's just a great basic mouse and memory stick device, for bells and whistles--you'll need to look elsewhere.

this computer performs incredibly. i use it for rendering digital video in final cut, and it cuts rendering times down to a fraction of what they were before. but i must say that with all the speed and flashy performance, and all the wonderful features packed into this magnificent machine, i hate it's guts. it's all thanks to the shiny mirrored drive doors. i abhor them. i am endlessly wiping them down to remove the finger prints and smudges that destroy the sheer beauty of my wonder computer. the truly terrible part is that they are not my fingerprints. everyone who walks by has to experience the glittering splendor physically. this burden of shiny perfection is too much for one mortal to bear....
PowerMac 1.25GHz compromises.......2003-04-21
I bought a Dual 1.25GHz upgrading from a Dual 500 G4. I really love Macintosh computers and the Dual 1.25GHz runs about 250% faster than my Dual 500MHz. Using Retrospect I was able to get backup transfer rates between the 80GB and a 120GB I installed in the ATA66 cage of 1000 bytes a second. I only get 500 on my G4 500. Everything is faster. That is the good side. On the negative side the first 1.25GHz I recieved would not power up. The 2nd unit had a dieseling fan noise and a bad video card. The video would work but when using Apples DVD player it would crash the Mac as the DVD player looks for hardware in the ATI 9000 that was not working in my card. The other problem is heat. I measured a continual 110-112 in the DVD bay and found when you add a SuperDrive Apples metal DVD bay cover blocks the fan on the SuperDrive. Not using the cover subjects your cables to possible slicing from the sharp processor fins. With heat this high I would expect higher failure rates in the SuperDrive. I also measured 103 to 116 degrees in the rear hard drive bay without a 2nd drive installed in that cage. Installing a 2nd drive would increase heat even more. If I had it to do over I would skip the Dual 1.25GHz FW800 PowerMac as a result of these design problems. I would rather have a quite and well cooled G4 500 Dual than components in a box that seems very warm to me. I hope the next model PowerMac has a cooler designed case so I can once again recommend it.
Great computer -- and quiet, too.......2003-03-21
I purchased and received a 1.25 ghz Power Mac G4 from the Apple Store Japan. Except for an issue with it not wanting to work with a ATA Raid card that operated fine in my old Quicksilver dual 1 ghz, the machine has been perfect. Since it was a "mirror door" series, I had steeled myself for the possibility that the noise level would be high, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it MUCH quieter than my Quicksilver -- about half as quiet, actually, based on side by side comparisons while copying files from my old machine to my new. So clearly, Apple has bent over backwards to find a reliable fix for the problems with this machine. The new G4s are super fast, not noisy at all, and sport many great features. If you've been holding out for a "quieter" G4 tower, this is it.

Extremely happy with this machine. No excessive fan noise other than a quick turbo-blast when I restart the machine when I ahve had it on for hours at a time. Which is to be expected since with two processors it gets very hot. I've installed 4 internal hard drives (taken from my B&W G3) with no problem. The new internal drive carriers are great too. Here's a benchmark I noticed on my own for ripping MP3s: Typically rips MP3s at 17x and can do an entire CD of 12 songs in 3 1/2 minutes. My blue and white G3 would crank them out at 3-5x. All-in-all it's a great machine - I strongly recommend it...
