100% junk. This machine is a piece of junk. I wish there was a choice of ZERO stars. This sat in a spare room and was very rarely used for several years and now that my daughter wants to use it in her room, it displays LOAD and then NO DISC -that's it. What a waste of money. I will never buy another RCA product.

No Good.......2004-01-09

I had this DVD player for only about 3 months and it quit working, it kept saying LOAD. I called about how to fix it and they told me to buy a new one. I would not recommend this player!

Let Down by RCA.......2003-12-18

I, like others, have had problems with this DVD player. It say's "No Disc" every time. I have had this DVD player for a couple months. Went through the online help with no luck. I contacted RCA, and was told it was a problem with the Player, and they would replace it with the same model. Great. Only at a cost to me of $39.95 plus S&H. That's an expensive DVD player. I already purchased this model once, and It's under warranty, then they want me to purchase it again. Duh.

For this low a price, it's worth buying.......2003-02-08

I purchased this unit on November 24, 2001 and, despite what you may read in many other reviews, it's still working and I have only minor complaints. When I purchased it, the price was about 50% higher; now at such a lowered price, you can take a chance with this unit. If you get 18 months or more use out of it, you got your money's worth. I have not experienced the horror stories that some other buyers have reported in their reviews, but that can be attributed to random luck.

Almost always, I am able to play any of my DVD's and VCD's. Occasionally, a disk will not "register" and the player acts like there is no disk present. I have to unload and reload a few times to get it to work.

The most annoying fault is with the remote. At times, I would press a key and nothing happens. In a few instances, the action will take place many seconds later, sort of like it wants to think about it first before it will do my bidding. I think it's a programming error.

In my opinion, the remote has too many buttons and I have mistakenly halted the movie when I only wanted to skip ahead at 2x speed.

The video quality and audio quality are excellent. Setup and connection were troublefree. Unit is attractive in black although that makes the buttons and their labels difficult to read (I have the unit on a shelf at knee level).

This is not a bare-bones product. You get the normal composite video lines, and the S-video outputs, and the component outputs. I don't have the tv that uses the S-video or component outputs, so I can not comment on the quality of those features on this dvd player. You get fast forward and reverse motion in 2x, 4x, 6x and 8x. It also does slow forward at 1/2 and 1/4.

You can magnify the picture 2x and 4x - and then scroll around.

If you have the money available and don't mind spending more, I would not recommend this to you. If you want a unit that works most of the time and are willing to risk having to replace this dvd player within a year or two, I can say go ahead and give it a try.

Steer Clear.......2003-01-23

DVD player stopped working after only about 15 hours of play (that's only 7-10 average movies). The sound garbled and the video began skipping. Sadly, I had owned it for quite some time before I began using it and the warranty had lapsed. RCA used to be a reliable brand but the quality of their CD and DVD players is now terrible and this one has to be, by far, the worst. Attempted cleaning the laser lens to no avail. Avoid this product. You'll get more use out a hundred bucks by burning it for heat.

Fix for Shinsonic DVD-100 loading problem.......2006-12-27

We found a shinsonic DVD-100 that our neighbors had gotten rid of and kept it. At first we had trouble getting the loading tray to open and close. We had to push against the tray just as the it tried to open and then quickly release. Eventually that too failed. I opened up the case and found the problem. It was a simple fix. The dvd player has to disengage a drive spindle before it can push out the tray. The top of the plastic dvd housing contains a bearing for the drive spindle. However, the plastic is too flimsy. When the open/close button is pressed, the drive spindle pulls down, but the top of the housing simply flexes downward, rather than releasing so the tray can open. I (a fairly home improvement-impaired person) screwed a brace across the the top of the plastic to make it stiffer. That solved the problem.

Spins DVD out on Disc Tray, Refuses to play some DVDs.......2006-12-09

My dad gave me this very player as he had a much better one at one time. At first there werent any problems but after a while of going thru my DVDs I noticed some would fail to even start up and not only that but the Shinsonic DVD player would spin the DVD out onto the rough surface of the Loading tray, if it wouldnt load. I think because of that, this player is responsible for destroying a once good copy of The Ring I had as well as my copy of Animal House. I disconnected it after I noticed The Ring was ruined (it wouldnt play normally video would freeze and skip due to scratching) and dropped it in the corner of my living room never to be used again. IMO it eats (well scratches) dvds so I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. The only good thing about this DVD player is that it can be used to read DATA cds and play back most kinds of audio (mp3, wav) and video (avi, mpeg) format, even my PS2 will not do that. Of course I have yet to buy a better DVD player and check it out on that. Thumbs down, at least it is no longer available.

That's right. This is the only router/4pt switch in it's class that has a 10/100 WAN port. Netgear, Linksys, Belkin, etc. are all 10baseT WAN. The NAT for port forwarding for an FTP site actually works! Haven't tried it too much with anything else. For games that use a LOT of ports like Mechwarrior 4, you need to jump into the DMZ. But I know Netgear and Linksys users that have to put their FTP servers in the DMZ. Down side is that only 16 TCP or UDP ports can be forwarded, where I think Netgear's funny looking new silver one (what was so wrong with square blue metal? You could set that on it's edge WITHOUT the silly stand) does 20, but NONE of them allow you to enter, say, a range of 100 ports for subsequent connections in games. For that I guess you need a REAL router like a Cisco and a lot more money. The best part is the price. With Super Saver shipping to Hawaii, I got WAY over on the usual "Pony Express" charge-by-weight price gouging, as well as the local merchant price gouging,(as if they really pay individual shipping rates on bulk products)if they even carry a selection. This router is cheaper than the competitors and better in most areas, although ALL these companies could still do a better job with NAT reliability, command line interfaces and port range capability. The CPU is an ARM 7 125Mhz with an 8MB Cache. You won't find these specs anywhere, though. I had to dig. Why are these companies so tight-lipped about # of ports you can forward and proc/cache specs? Well, cuz they want to sell volume and most folks don't even know what this stuff means. None of the companies are interested in establishing any standard of baseline comparison, because they'd rather market by taking up space on the store shelf like beer companies do. This little router does have nice bright green LED's on the front for each speed, which makes monitoring traffic easy. Small, light and stackable with OTHER rectangular components besides Hawking products, unlike Linksys and (newest)Netgear. This black router just looks more professional to me than a lot of the other funky-colored home-user market niche types. Don't know too much about it's electrical durability yet, but after all the Linksys products (hubs, mostly) that I've seen get fried by power spikes, I steered clear. Bottom line is that this router is yet another sleeper computer/networking product that most folks in the market for a router will overlook.

a waste of money.......2006-10-21

I purchased the monitor twice. I had to return the first one because it was not working properly. The second monitor worked great for about 3 months. At the 3 month mark, I started seeing grey lines going horizontally across the screen. If there are effective adjustments to fix this problem, I have not come across it. The manual mentions several adjustments to try but none seem to work. With the multiple horizontal grey lines going across my screen, I find the monitor to be almost useless. I have model 9410e.

Update - 15 months later 8/19/07 - no problems - well worth the investment.

Great color, great contrast, not a single dead pixel.

The plastic base was difficult to mount. I ended up breaking 1 of the plastic clips when I disassembled it to move it to a different location. The base still connects well enough to the screen but I will not chance taking it apart again.

Bought mine at Fry's and have been pleasantly surprised. Using it with a mac mini, not a gamer.

This is an excellent monitor and worked perfectly right out of the box. XP Pro installed it without any problems and I didn't have to do anything in the way of adjustments. I can't think of anything about this monitor that needs improvement. It is a great buy at an attractive price. The picture is spectacular. I am not a gamer.

An inexpensive option to an Apple Cinema Display.......2007-03-19

For quite a while I'd been looking for a widescreen monitor to go along with my Mac Pro, but trying to stay clear of the expensive Apple Cinema Displays. Recently it dawned on me that I could get as much (or more) screen real estate by putting two 17-inch monitors side by side. So I set out to look for another Envision monitor, since the other one I owned (the one I was using with the Mac Pro already) had worked out just fine for us.

When I found this silver beauty I knew I was in front of the solution I had been looking for. The design is not unlike the Cinema Displays, with silver casing and a curved stand, but besides this and the impeccable image quality, most important is the price tag: for a fraction of the price of a comparable Apple monitor, you can get this one, which will look just as good next to an Apple computer.

So, if you like me want to fit your Apple tower with a good looking monitor with good image quality, without spending an arm and a leg: seek no more. And if you still are lucky, you may be able to find it for even less (I paid $[...] for mine) at Costco.
