Good burner for Mac OSX.......2006-01-10

I bought a refurbished one for 50 bucks from besteksolutions and run it on Mac OSX with the included discribe software and it works perfect. Install took 2 minutes. Although it took about 25 mins to burn an 80 min CD it works perfect. I would recommend to anyone with a Mac, I don't know why everyone else seems to have problems.

Cheap drive, esp under USB 1.1.......2005-03-29

Cute looking, and the included HotBurn software loaded smooth and has a bunch of cool-looking skins. And that's all the good I can say about this drive. It would not open the tray unless you quit the burner software (big pain for trading disks), it would lock the computer after a few burns, and if you made the mistake of starting up while the drive was powered up....! For all of that, I used it for several months. Until it stopped burning good CD-ROMs, and refused to get a good burn dispite re-install of OS, Hotburn, and trial of several different brands of media.

And HotBurn is fancy, like I said, but won't save, slows down terribly once you pass about twenty items, and has essentially NO options. And, like I say, you need to quit just to insert a fresh CD. And did I mention that when it auto-detects the burner has been powered up, it then goes on to search every bus on the computer for burners (taking about five minutes)?

First off. I had some of the same problems
with locking and down and crashing on my old computer.
Since I have bought a new computer with usb 2.0 ports
I have no problems. Usb 2.0 makes a huge difference.
I would not recommend using it on usb 1.1.
Your not getting full use of it this burner if you do.

I can burn a cd with nero or the hotburn software
in about 2 minutes. Hotburn software is actually a lot easier to use if you have never used it or Nero.

Overall, I highly recommend this burner to anyone with a decent computer.

Seriously, I love this Iomega CD burner. I wanted an external one, because I didn't want to get my 1-year-old Dell taken apart, since it works so well! So, my sister bought me one for Christmas. Neither of us knew anything about CD burners. I had never even heard of Iomega.Burning digital photos to CD-Rs was my main interest, and it does that wonderfully. The Iomega software is not the easiest to understand, and unfortunately like many things today, it comes with no printed manual. But I finally figured out how to burn ALL the photos in MY PICTURES. There were 100's of them in the highest quality, and it took less than 5 minutes to burn them on the included Verbatim DataLifePlus CD! I then played the CD with Windows Media Player on my PC to make sure they were all there. They were. (I'm glad it was a Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-R they included, too, since that seems to be the one PC Photo most recommends for storing photos. )

I still have yet to figure out to get individual photos or folders to the work area to burn, without taking all MY PICTURES folders there, and then deleting what I don't want. I'm sure there is a way; I just haven't figured it out. Mainly because I really don't need to, since I discovered my Kodak EasyShare software recognizes the burner instantly, and controls it flawlessly. Thus, I just use the Kodak software. The top burn speed you can choose with the Kodak software is 32x, but it still burns 100's of photos in less than 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, although the Iomega software downloaded with no problems at all on my Dell with XP, the XP MY PICTURES wizard will not recognize the Iomega burner at all. And the Microsoft Digital Image 9 Suite software recognizes the Iomega, and goes through the whole archiving/burning process...but the Iomega drawer never opens at the end, there are no photos on the CD-R, and the CD-R is no longer writable! These CDs also locked up my PC DVD drawer when I tried to play them! I just got that software, however, and have done no troubleshooting with it, so I don't know if that is a permanent problem or not.

I've not done much music burning yet. I have used the Windows Media Player software to burn songs from my music library on both a Verbatim vinyl CD-R and a DataLifePlus CD-R. My CD player, an inexpensive compact, could not play the vinyl CD-R, but a friend easily played it on her more expensive CD player. Also, had the same situation with CDs burned with the Iomega software. I obviously need to go back to components.The Iomega software also has advanced editing features for burning vinyl records to CDs, but I also have the same type of thing with the Microsoft Digital Media Plus!

I finally have my perfect duo for scanning and editing. I am a "peripheral junkie" and have found a dream come true in this scanner. Yes, you will pay more but you will not be disappointed. I buy scanners at least yearly, but I won't do this in 2005 because I have found a wonderful product.
Scanning is super fast. Digital Ice really does make a difference. The organization of your scans is intuitive and easy. You can scan and make edits prior to the scan. I prefer to make my edits in Photoshop Elements #3.
When I have used the Digital Ice work flow, I have made significant edits on very old photos from my ancestors' 3rd World cameras with fabulous results.
"Digital Ice" is a significant component of this program which makes it worth the price. I haven't researched it recently, but this was the only scanner in December that bundled this component.

I shoot black & white 35 mm. Previously relied upon either a Polaroid SprintScan 4000 or drum scans. The 4870 produces gorgeous scans and is easy to use. I'm very happy with my purchase. SilverFast has proved to be a dissapointment for use with B&W negs. I would probably have purchased the regular 4870 vs. Pro version if I had it to do over again.

I bought one of these for myself and loved it so much that I got one for my daughter too. It is great. I can honestly say this is the best I've had. I bought 2 Apple Ipods and 2 Coby brand also and none of those even worked. I really want 2 more of these for other family members. I'm tired of buying crappy mp3 players. I got my irock used from my nephew who needed money. I didnt like the ear buds so I got some noise cancelling headphones. I take mine to a construction site every day and patch it into a big JVC boombox. and have dropped it so many times on hard concrete and it has always played. I even took it to the philippines for 4 months vacation with me, the 20 hr airplane flight was much easier with this beautiful little unit. The sound is great and I can delete and add songs so easily with real player. Just recently I wanted a larger capacity unit and got online but was very disapointed that irock dont have any 1 or 2 gig players. So I settled on a Sony wich is really nice also. But for durability, great sound, ease of loading music, long battery life, i wanted another one. But why isn't irock cranking out some higher capacity units, cuz they rock. The airline lost my luggage and the USB cord to this unit but I got online to the irock site and orderd another cord for $13, I shud hav just orderd another unit the price has dropped to less than $60 great gifts quality units just needs more memory the 256 is only about 4 hrs of music

The product here is even less reliable and more chintzy than the product description suggests, but that's a good thing: the idea here is that you don't quite know what you're going to get. It'll often turn even the most banal snapshot into something interesting. Not a good introduction to medium-format, though; start with a pro camera and pick this up for fun.

this is a very cool idea.. super tiny wrist watch PDA.. I love the concept, and I wanted to love this unit, but the short battery life makes it impossible to rely on. If you don't plug it in every night you run the risk of having it run out of juice and then you have to reload everything.. which is not too much of a chore I guess, but it is kind of.. if they could have gone the extra mile to use more modern flash memory it could have survived a power down just fine. So, because it's pretty much useless to me, I give it two stars. again, cool idea, poor implementation.

It's not too big, for better or worse........2006-01-23

Before I bought this, I'd read in many places that the watch is big. I mean, sure, it has some mass, but it's not huge. This watch is slightly larger than Fossil's Big Tic line of men's watches. The display is nice in darkened rooms with the backlight enabled, and in well-lit rooms, it's very readable. Sometimes, dimly lit rooms will leave it unreadable. The Jot\Graffiti 2 text input system has been hard for me to get used to, possibly because I'm rather skilled with the original Graffiti. The stylus is both a clever and a marginal solution. I'd suggest either avoiding text input or carrying a full-size pen/stylus combo. Larger styli aren't crowded by the tiny screen. The band is plastic with rather thick leather inlays. The design is such that the band may be hard to replace in the future, but it's very thick and durable, so you're not likely to need a replacement in the near future. I wish there was a hotsync button on the cable, as navigating to the hotsync app can be bothersome.

I use mine to carry about my address book, appoinments, copies of my favorite blogs, email and to-do list. Plucker and Wassup are both great apps that complement the size of the little PDA.
