Laptop instantly recognized the drive. Transferred thousands of files, later rebooted and have not seen the drive since (that was 1 year ago). Iomega Customer Support is of no help. NEVER NEVER NEVER again will I trust data to any Iomega product.

To Whom It May Concern;
I expected a product that was 'cutting dege' technology and well it might be. The original information that I loaded went in like lightening (Firewire - I guess). I was warned by everyone not to get something slow. Well that part turned out good. But the 80Gigs filled up in 1 month. I use a 40 Gig hard drive. It turned out to be a mistake in the setting, their settings. Now I really don't know how much I can trust the product.
USB 2 installed in your computer is a must for good speed........2005-06-05
The only negative thing you have to pay GREAT attention to is that if you don't have USB 2; you are in for a nasty surprise and I don't mean any USB because I have 2 USB 1.1 in my 3 years old Laptop and both don't have the capabilities of this new "at least for me" USB 2 thing. USB 2 is 40 TIMES faster than USB 1.1. I didn't know that before buying this drive so I think if you are in for speed and not for price it is highly recommended that you buy the firewire one or make sure even better to have USB 2 in your computer. Only new computers have that kind of USB. Remember 40 times means that for the same amount of data using my USB 1.1 will take miserable 1 HOUR instead of 1.5 MINUTES if I had the USB 2, quite a difference! Otherwise setup was a breeze and the added free software is well designed. Also, I enjoyed the tutor videos on the website and it gave me a quick and effective edge to understand the process of system backup that I did for the first time. The system is still bulky although considered a great deal by today's standard. Good shopping.

Worked fine then failed. Replacement drive either no good as well, or else the other one destroyed the cartridges I used and they are no longer any good - at $40 each
Buy this if you need an excuse to lose data and your job. Buy anything else, paper and pencil would be an improvement

Very disappointed....Bought and used primarily for back up purposes,On my (4th)only back up, problems started...Called support,unit has a defect, IOMEGA replaced brand new unit with reman unit. Again on the (4th) back up, unit malfunctioned again, same problem (computer no longer recognized drive). Unit now just out of warranty and IOMEGA refuses to address the problem...I was lucky enough to get only 8 back up sessions and now in the garbage, very costly mistake buying IOMEGA product.Beware

Works great, but is too large to carry around.......2007-09-20
I bought this external hard drive about a year ago and very soon after I bought it, the prices all went down for smaller external hard drives with more space. Since I travel a lot for work, it would have been nice to have something more portable. Other than that issue, this hard drive works great.
External Hard Drive.......2007-01-16
I use this external hard drive to backup important files, and I take it on trips for storing large image files which I transfer from a laptop. It works smoothly and rapidly, just plug it in and go. No complaints from me - it does what I need without a hassle. I'm no expert when it comes to plug-ins, external hard drives, etc.; so, my experience with this Iomega drive has been a good one. Highly recommended for its quality and value. I've generall had good experiences with Iomega products, and this one is no exception.
Great External Drive.......2006-12-15
I bought this about a year ago, and its still working great. Its USB 2.0 Hi Speed and auto installs on Windows XP. I would recommend using your own software for backup/management though such as Acronis True Image.
Nice Doorstop.......2006-12-03
This drive worked just great -- for about three months. It spent most of its time turned off as I only turned it on when I wanted to back something up. Lucky for me, I've adopted the habit of backing up not only to a hard drive (for quick access) but also to DVDs. After about three months, this turkey disappeared from my computer and has yet to allow itself to be located. Customer service -- a joke. I'm amazed that companies that treat their customers so poorly continue to stay around. I'm sending this piece of junk back to iomega. (The one star is for its admirable duty as a doorstop.)
Great Drive & Software.......2006-07-05
It's quieter than the PC's drive but slightly more noisy than my laptop's. As for the quality, I've had it two months with no problems.
The software is great too. The only problem is that it doesn't let you select a whole directory tree to backup and then let you DE-select sub-folders. In other words, if you want to backup something other than your whole C drive, for example, you will have to go through and select sub-trees individually. Other than that, I've had no problems, it backs up on schedule and even keeps different versions of files as defined in the settings.
It requires a seperate power supply so I only reccomend it for desktop use.
P. S. Make sure you reformat it NTFS before using because it comes with FAT32.

Great Product.......2003-06-11
I have alot of mp3's, games, and videos. I also have family members that can easily screw up the pc. I would end up reinstalling the OS at least once a month and losing content in the process. I wanted something that was big and was immune to viruses and improper uses.I originally wanted to purchase a dvd writer drive, but I was tired of storing and caring for discs. A friend of mine showed me his Iomega 48x burner drive, and I was thoroughly impressed with the results. I used to have a grudge against external products for their notoriously high prices. But this is a great deal!
This drive is absolutely perfect, installation for both Windows 98 Second Edition and XP Professional Pro was a snap. Backups are easy with the supplied Norton Ghost. USB 2.0 is amazingly fast and 1.1 transfers at a liveable rate, but you can pick up a 2.0 usb pci card [for very little money]. If you dont want usb you can buy a firewire cable from iomega directly for [not much money]. The only drawbacks are lack of a power switch and the a/c cable. Not having a power switch is a little scary knowing the discs could fail from an improper power-up. The arrow symbol at the end of the cord is upside down. Which was a little confusing top plug in at first because the pin positions were very hard to differentiate. These little nuances can be taken care of easily: dont unplug anything but the usb cable.
Two tips for owning the drive -
1. Don't Drop!! HDD do not take shock nicely
2. Keep the room cool, this thing gets a little warm when its on for days at a time. I suggest keeping a mini-fan by it.
Overall, a terrific buy for anyone who is too afraid to open a pc and wants a really big upgrade in storage. Thanks to Iomega for the perfect product.
Was unable to get support needed from Iomega ........2003-06-11
Bad experience - returned item - Iomega did not have a clue why the drive wasn't working, and close up shop at 7PM on Friday night - their online tech site didn't work either... I ended up having to restore my main drive and returned the Iomega.... would not buy this drive because of lack of manufacturer support...
Good backup solution.......2003-06-02
I bought this drive hoping for a good hard drive backup device. I was not disappointed. Installation was easy and straightforward. The included software from Iomega made scheduled backups easy. My only complaint concerns the Norton Ghost software. Although the software does exactly what it's supposed to do, it could have benefited from better documentation. I am quite pleased with the drive itself.

If you have XP and USB 1.1, skip this drive and get something else.
What a waste of time. This sounded like a great external hard drive--80GB, decent price, and backward-compatible with my USB 1.1. However, XP Home wouldn't assign it a drive letter--despite three installations, contacting tech support and spending hours reviewing the articles and instructions on the Iomega site, I still can't get it to work.
The real eye-opener came when I checked the user forums on the Iomega site and found dozens of posts about this exact same problem, with no resolution! In every case, tech support's best options were: unplug it and plug it in again (!), check the connections (!!), reinstall, update the USB drivers, and unplug it (aargh!). While I didn't expect total plug-and-play, a device like this should be pretty close (and I've never had a problem with hardware like this before with XP). I've spent hours on this and tech support was no help at all, even though the forums indicate that this is an ongoing and consistent problem. Save your time and spend your money on something that will work easily...I'm returning it in the morning.

Better Than Bose!!!.......2007-03-29
These speakers are fantastic. It is difficult to find smaller satellite speakers that sound good for music but these do the trick. They have a great mid-range, highs, and lows. Don't be fooled by the Bose is best mentality. Bose is a heavily advertised brand but not worth the price. They don't use the high quality materials that Infinity does and they cannot achieve the kind of pure sound that the Infinity speakers are known for. Remember when shopping for any type of sound, you get what you pay for. Also, most times the companies that most people have not heard of are the best, Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Denon, Boston Acoustics... Stay away from the home theater in a box if you want good sound with low distortion and do research don't just buy a Sony because it matches the television.

Outstanding Speakers.......2006-12-22
I have to say I was a little doubtful of the speakers since it was suggested by my local Circuit City guy but he convinced me that I would love them and I do. I have it hooked up to an entry level Harman Kardon AVR 140 and the sound is really impressive. I was looking for small speakers that could give me great sound quality and I found them in this set up. The subwoofer is awesome with the LFE set up and really kicks in when you need it. The other speakers have outstanding clarity. When you take the speakers out of the box you can feel and see how well they are made. I went from using a HTIB Sony set up (which BTY was a complete waste of $400 because the center speaker went bad after only a year) to my new AV set up and couldn't be happier. Wife loves the sound.
Great Speakers!.......2006-11-15
I did a great deal of research to find the perfect speakers for my needs. I wanted speakers that were small yet powerful and well built. Infinity makes fantastic speakers, and you can tell by how much these things weigh that they are solidly built.
I hooked these up to my receiver and was blown away by the clarity. No matter what the source is, these speakers seem to be able to pick up and seperate all the different sounds. The subwoofer is amazing, it literaly shakes the house when turned up, but when set at a more moderate level it picks up just the right amount of bass to bring more reality to movies and clarity to music.
I can't think of one thing that I dislike about these speakers. I have compared them to the Bose Acoustimass system which costs more than twice as much, and while you may be getting slightly larger speakers, you are getting an amazing system.
Bottom line, at this price, you will not find a better set of speakers.
