Poor Compatibility! Not a single disc burnt! The Worst Warranty I ever Met!! As simple as that.
I bought it from Staples two months ago, and I hsve been struggling with it ever since. I contacted I/O Magic technical support and customer service several times, of course, I have been asked to update all drivers from Desktop chipset to ATPI driver, DVDRW drive's firmware. This product at last simply even stopped reading days ago. Then I met with the worst warranty I ever have before. The WARRANTY simply asks you to pay for the return and replacement delivery no matter it is a defective one or not!!!!!!!
Watch out and follow experts' advice on some reliable brands, unless you want to struggle with this product with poor quality and pay for the freight youself!
This is definitely my last experience with I/OMagic.

Good Product.......2005-08-19

I've owned and heavily used this product for the past 6 months and I've been very happy with it. I've burned 8X DVD+Rs at 16X successfully and they've played on my fussiest stand alone DVD player. I've found that the key to successful burns is to use good quality blank media. What few problem burns I've had were the result of something other than the burner itself and were easily solved by changing a setting here or using a different software there. I also own another branded burner and quality-wise this one measures up very well against it.

Writing with errors after 3 months.......2005-04-23

It was great for the first 3 months. I use Nero Ultra 6 (not OEM from this product) and is up to date. After 3 months of use, it wrote with errors and cannot use those discs. Nero can varify whatever writing with it. Now, it's just a DVD-ROM, not DVD-RW double layer!

IO Magic Products..........2005-04-21

First let me say that I do not work for IO Magic nor do I own one of their DVD drives but I do own one of their CD R/RW drives which I have had for 18 months. This has been the best little machine I have attached to my computer. It is a 52x24x52 drive and I have had absolutely no problems with it. I've actually had more problems with my Iomega Zip drive. I purchased it from Best Buy, actually it was a gift and I've grown quite attached to it. Not once have I had to contact IO Magic for anything regarding this drive and I am considering purchasing their DVD R/RW.

I haven't always had this much success with other electronic devices. I have worked in manufacturing where the boards for electronic devices are built and where they are put together. I've even worked for a company making the chips that go into most computers. While they all strive to produce the highest quality product they can, and quality control is pretty strict, there are still a few chips, boards, and thus finished products that slip through and end up getting shipped out and sold to the consumer. It does not mean that the company itself is producing a defective product as a rule. They can't afford to.

I've purchased Sony products, one of the most reputable companies in the electronics business, that didn't work once I turned them on. I've had to return two or three products before I got one that worked. I gave my sister a GE toaster oven for Christmas. It caught on fire after the second time she used it. GE has been producing electrical appliances forever. So just keep this in mind when you get a defective product.

Unreliable, expensive.......2005-04-06

First, let me point out that you can get a namebrand (NEC, Toshiba, etc.) internal DL/all-format DVD burner for under $80; try Amazon and Newegg. I found this I/O Magic at my local computer store so I bought it. Big mistake. The drive reads DVDs slower than my 3-year-old Iomega (no relation!) and write speed (on DVD-Rs) is nowhere near as advertised. Worse, about half the time it would not recognize my DVD-Rs when first inserted. This is a terrible product. Luckily I returned it for a full refund. Then I found out I could buy a better brand on Newegg for less.

This was my first I/O Magic product. I just read online reviews of their hard drive products and looks like this company's products suck big-time. They also sell under the Hi-Val brand, so beware.

Excellent Drive For The Price.......2006-01-26

I Purchased this drive at Stapels, because i needed a low-cost DVD Burner. I got a Computer for christmas, upgraded the hard drive, and added this DVD Burner. Right now I only have two drives in my computer, one sitting there, not powered, not connected to my PC, because i removed the pin connector thing. I haven't tried to burn anything with it yet, but it read Nero 6 and the other bundled software fine. But it is REALLY loud. The disc must be going at 500+ RPMs. Sometimes i could hear it, faintly, through a 6-inch-thick wall. But overall it seems like a good drive. If anyone could put up a pic of the back of the drive, showing a stock pin connection setup, it would be appreachated.

WARNING:AS WITH ANY DVD DRIVE,DO NOT REMOVE MASTER/SLAVE PINS CONNECTOR THING, IF THERE ARE TWO DRIVES HOOKED UP TO THE SAME CABLE WITH NO PIN CONNECTORS,THE COMPUTER WILL NOT BOOT.

I got this is ThxGvg Sale for 19.99. I dont know if it is that worth at all also, I tried to burn a Audio CD of a 192Kbps Quality songs, it screwed them all. I thought it was my songs, but re made the cD on my prev ext CD burner, they come grt. but I copied a DVD, came out grt.

Earlier, the IOMAGIC used to be rebagged Benq dw1620. Now BTC. Horrible quality. It's worth spending $10 more and buy either NEC, BENQ, PLEXTOR 740a or atleast you know what you are buying. This is just not worth even spending $20.

Nothing but problems with this card reader.......2006-06-24

I would NOT recommend this item. I had problem after problem with it and, in the end, it was not useful at all. While the tech support email service was notably quick in responding, their fixes could not salvage this effectively useless product.

1) As noted by another reviewer, the driver is not digitally signed for xp. Tech support said they didn't want to pay for it and that it worked fine in their tests, but if other companies are getting their products approved, I am inclined to switch to them.

2) The recognition part of the software was unable to properly read in a card. The scans were reasonably clean, but the ORC would come up with at most the person's name and maybe part of their title, but other categories (company, email) would be random characters and the remaining categories would not be filled.

3) Unhelpful tech support. Tech support emails were responded to quickly, but the advice was not particularly helpful and was unable to solve the problems I was having.

The scanner works great, it works well for processing a single card and multiple cards. easy to use and good quality business card scans. A great value for the price.

Timesaver and simple.......2006-02-25

This little device actually does what it claims to do! Quick and easy install, and if you are technically savy you really don't need the directions for running it. Worth the price and effort.

This card reader is what I expected. It gets the job done. The quality of the image is a little grainy, but overall I am pleased with the product. I can carry all the business cards I want with me on a laptop. I can categorized them into separate databases with filenames that are meaningful to me and access them quickly, and move the database files to another computer and access them after installing the card reader software. As long as I back up the database files, I'll always have access to them. Even if I have to replace my hard drive and reinstall my operating system.

This is a superb product. Electronic rolodex with the options to export to Outlook and many other programs. Automatically fills in the information from the card to the program. Great feature!

Avoid this product.......2006-04-22

The card reading ability of the device is worse than the rational customer might expect. The error rate I experienced was around 35%. I had scanned 30 cards, wasting time correcting data, and then the program crashed. In OSX. I hardly ever see a program crash. But here's the kicker: it didn't save the work at any point. In fact, there was no save funtion I could find easily, just export. I returned it right away, and ordered the CardScan Executive, which I run under Windows XP in Boot Camp. While it costs twice as much, its error rate is much more forgivable, at about 10%, with about 25% perfect scans/reads so far. Plus, the automatic saving and free online card data storage and synching are beyond my expectations. You get what you pay for.
