Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.

Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.

Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.

The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

4.5 stars actually.
I'm happy with the price quality ratio of this product. It's plenty loud enough for outside personnel use, and there's minimal distortion when maxed. It's hard to tell the size from the pictures - I was expecting/hoping it to be larger, but it sort of resembles the size of a VHS tape, if it melted into a convex shape.
I spent hours researching for similar products, so let me make it easy for you - if you'd like a nice portable speaker system (that will satisfy a small group, not a party) to compliment your mp3 player, or laptop especially - go with the JBL

A friend had these speakers and I had to have them too! I'm using them with the Dell mp3 player. They are perfect for the backyard, pool, hotel room, etc.Great sound for th compact speakers. The AC adapter is a bit bulky, but I mostly use batteries (4 AAA). I also wish the case would slide shut while still plugged into my mp3.

The speakers are very good i don't use it so long but the sound it's better than my pavilion, i think that you can find a better way to amplifier your ipod sound, the sond quality it's good but no excellent lika the ipod hear bud or other sunod sistems.
But hey!!! it's a very mini peaker sistem and sound better than the similar products (i try with the genius just exactly model, and the difference it's big), if you want to listen some music in your laptop o something portable to you mp3 player this it's the sistem, if you look for hi fidelity and can carry more weight look something bigger and powerful

you plug in using an adapter, not so impressive with batteries. What a difference but it serves it's purpose, is small, and comes in a protective storage box. I will probably use plugged in. Big sound from a small speaker.

Forget the AM/FM components. They'll work if you're in a prima reception area or rig a good antenna. But if youre buying it to plug in your iPod, you'll get a clear, sweet sound. At 4 watts you'll avoid apartment neighbors putting a RPG round through your wall, but put it on a table near you, select your playlist or album (you can do it easily with the iPod plugged in) and enjoy reasonable volume and acceptable bass with no distortion. A neat built-in handle is icing on the cake. The clock radio/alarm works, since if you want it to wake you up and you don't have great reception, the screeching static on your favorite FM show will rouse your dearly departed granny if she's within 12 feet of it. So how can I give it 5 stars? Because it does what I want it to, give me clean iPod tunes with little to no effort. If the AM/FM stuff is critical to you, knock it down to 3 stars, you picky person you. And If you want to pick a fight with neighbors down the street, get a $3,000 Bose system, plug your Pod into Aux, and crank it up to Psycopath.

When it works, it works with quirks. Quirks that are obvious design flaws. It is as if canon deliberately crippled this printer to make it unsuitable for office use. Ours ran fine for 18 months, then it started giving paper size errors that could not be corrected, resulting in lost faxes that really hurt our business.
I recommend going to a brick-and-mortar costco and seeing what they offer as their most expensive printer. Their product line is pretty well vetted and well suited to a small business office.
Reset Button Never Work.......2007-05-26
When there is an error , for example , if paper size is A4 instead of Letter, the printer will alarm. There NO way to reset the printer when it has error, even if you shutdown your computer , or shutdown the printer temporarily.
This printer still REMEMBER all the pages that were sent to it after you turn it off, and you can not use the Reset button to clear those pages.
My only solution in this case is : turn the printer off in 1 night, and check it back in the next morning. Usually, 1 night is long enough for the printer to forget the error and reset by itself.
This printer has very good print quality when it works . However, when it does not work, you will have a miserable time to fix it.
After a lot of customers complained about this product, Canon still sell this printer in the market, without fixing the problem or recalling the defective product. This carelessness will destroy the credibility of Canon.
Good value for home use.......2006-09-13
After reading the earlier reviews, I was skeptical. But considering the recent price drops ($199) I decided to give this printer a try. The installation was easy. I got paper jams on the first try, but this was due to the paper tray not being positioned correctly - I had the printer sitting on a carpet surface (the paper tray does not lock shut, so is susceptible to improper positioning easily). It comes with a full size toner X25 (good for 2500 pages). Printing, Scanning seem pretty decent. OCR worked well with the Omnipage software that came with the CD (old version of Omnipage software, but accurate character recognition). Copying by placing original on flatbed caused really crooked copy the first time, but seemed better on subsequent times. It was still not perfectly square in alignment. This might have been due to a combination of paper quality and loosely fitted paper tray. Despite these I am happy with the printer for home use. It is good value for the money. I am giving it 3 stars mainly due to the poor fit and issues with the paper tray. You can get over the last problem by placing the printer on a hard surface and installing the paper tray carefully and not disturbing it often.
Least intuitive piece of hardware EVER!.......2006-05-16
I know it's difficult to imagine and probably a slight exageration but quite frankly I have never really seen a piece of office equipment with such a non-intuitive usability design.
*To delete a simple job takes at least 3 to 4 button pushes.
*Not very friendly to using different sizes of paper - especially if you use MORE THANE 1 SHEET! It's an office! Canon - come on...
*Even if you think you know how to delete a simple print job, don't bother using buttons that say CLEAR or STOP - those are there just to tease. No the actual buttons say things like SET and STATUS MONITOR. After 20 times of doing that, it may become something you remember...
* There's NO reset button. You have to actually unplug it!
* There's NO off button. So your scan lamp basically stays on all the time...
* The Cable and Plug wire are designed to hang down the back of the machine - UNFORTUNATELY, if you use Legal size paper, your cable and plug wire are pushing up against your paper tray all the time because the Cable and Plug are above it. Really doesn't make any sense for an OFFICE MACHINE!!!
It does function basically o.k. once you figure it out, but I stand by the title - Least Intuitive thing I've ever used. I do also concur with most of the other review items but the one gave it 5 stars...
No mac support!.......2006-03-28
No mac support! Not just "no mac drivers on the included CD", but "no mac drivers exist that will cause this thing to print".
I really wish I had discovered that before lugging it upstairs & setting it up.
