Customer Reviews:
Good memory.......2006-01-30
Like all other lexar memory I bought, it works great and has reasonably fast access.
Absolutely Great.......2005-04-28
I bought this card for our honeymoon in Hawaii. It worked perfectly. All the pictures came out vivid and beautiful. I couldn't have been happier with this memory card!!
Quite good........2005-03-26
I picked up this card for my Garmin Ique 3600 GPS/PDA as I was told a fast speed card would help. I'm no expert, but I haven't experienced and problems with the card. It is reliable and speedy.
How many pictures will it store?.......2004-11-06
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.
The Lexar Media 256MB SD Card SD256-231, like most 256MB cards, will store on average 284 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 213 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 128 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 102 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 80 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.
I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.
Never recieved it.......2004-05-26
I ordered it for $59.99, even paid for the expedited service, but two days later it was canceled. Not sure why. After reading another review it seems the price was incorrect. I thought it was too good to be true!
I have not a clue on its performance.

Ideal for consumers looking for a compact, easy-to-use digital music player, the Lexar LDP-200 offers a convenient and simple management system, versatility and portability. Using multiple SD cards, users can create favorite music playlists, and manage entire music libraries stored on removable SD cards.
Customer Reviews:
Can't propperly sort music.......2006-03-23
I purchased the LDP-200 so that I could play Windows Media files that I store on the SD card that I usually use in my PDA phone. I don't want to risk damaging the phone while participating in adventure recreation.
The only thing weaker than the LDP-200 firmware is Lexar's customer support. They are uninformed, lazy, unresponsive, and entirely too quick to dismiss problems.
In theory it's a great device. Cheap, small, simple, flexible. For the price you can forgive that it doesn't include features like playlists, and doesn't resume tracks where you left off. What is not forgivable are the MAJOR undisclosed limitations of the file management system programmed into the Version 0.5 firmware (the only known publicly available firmware version).
With no playlist capability it's critical to be able to sort music by folders. The problem is that the LDP-200 is only able to read 40 folders / directories regardless of how they are organized! The count begins with all folders in the root path of the SD card and then continues with the next level of subdirectories in alphabetical order and so on. So let's say I sort my music by artist then album, if I have an average of two albums per artist and I cherry pick my tracks so that I only have an average of 3 songs for each album I can only play 76 songs. Worse yet if I'm storing photos or data in other directories on my SD card as Lexar says you can do, depending on how many folders I have dedicated to them I might not be able to browse/play ANY music at all! Furthermore even if I opted to place all media files in one folder the LDP-200 is limitted to reading only 130 music files per folder. This is especially bothersome for someone who shelled out the extra cash for a high capacity card.
Now let's talk about Lexar's customer service. Before purchasing the device I inquired with customer support if the device could support sd cards larger than 1GB. I was told no. I reserched reviews and discovered it supports all FAT32 SD cards. So I bought the device and verified it. (Note: I also performed my file management tests on a 128MB SD card). When I reported to them that directories and media files in certain directories were not visible to the player and that I could make them visible by renaming directories to start with letters earlier in the alphabet they told me to format my card and recreate my files. When I pushed the issue and provided them links to similar customer feedback with examples on how to recreate the problem they told me they used my file structure and there "should not" be a limit to the number of directories. When I provided them with further guidance on how to recreate the problem they simply sent me a form letter response saying they were sorry I was having problems with my device (not acknowledging that there is a problem with their firmware) and they'd get back to me.
For those of you that already own the device I strongly encourage you to perform the tests yourself and report back here with your results and DEMAND that Lexar resolves the firmware bug to make it function AS ADVERTISED. If you don't already own one don't buy one until they have released a firmware and you have read reports that the problem has been resolved. In the meantime you may be interested in a different MP3 player / SD card reader such as:
SanDisk e100 Series
Grand MP3
MyMusic PD201
Coby MP Series
I can't say that any of these work better but I would certainly reserearch them before purchasing the LDP-200
Didn't work.......2005-09-05
The multifunction "joystick" central button was faulty. Sometimes I could get it to change the volume setting, but its play function never once worked, no matter what I tried. After consulting with Lexar's customer service, I returned the unit.
Many owners of MP3 players have complained that their units would freeze and they had to take the battery out to get them to work again. I had to do the same thing several times with this unit.
This was my first purchase of a portable MP3 player. I was attracted to the Lexar because I liked the idea of using removable SD cards. However, now that I've seen firsthand how flimsily these things are constructed, plus having read many folks' complaints regarding how easily they break, and considering how expensive they are, I've decided to give up on buying a portable MP3 player.
Good basic MP3 player; SD Card does NOT stick "half-way out".......2005-08-09
The SD card, when inserted, protrudes only 2mm outside the slot at the farthest point. I have no idea how the other reviewer inserted his/her card only half way and managed to listen to anything.
The LDP-200 provides very good sound quality and includes a good set of headphones. The LCD backlight is bright and the interface is simple and easy to understand. Songs organized in folders are easy to navigate with the directory system, but cycling through a large list of unorganized songs can take a long time. Audio files seem to be organized within folders according to the alphabetical order of the first eight or so letters of their names. Files which have identical names up to the 9th/10th letter will be scrambled randomly within the folder.
The player does not support playlists.
Recommended for folks who do not plan to put 2GB of directory-less music onto an SD card and pop it in. If you have a small music collection and/or an organized music collection, and are looking for a cheap, simple mp3 player, this is the one for you.
Bad Design.......2005-08-03
What the description doesn't tell you is that the SD card does not fully insert into the player. In fact, half the SD card sticks out. Not only can it fall out but it can also be bumped and lose its connection. When it worked, it worked as advertised. However, I bought this for working out and the design just does not work for that. I returned this product and bought something else.

Super!.......2004-03-26
I have hade the cards for a couple of months, and never had any problem with it. Works like a charm! Have been able to use my camera in a whole new way thanks to this memory card!
Deceptive packaging.......2004-02-17
I paid more $$ to get a Japanese card with a guaranteed speed rating, good brand name, etc. This is an excellent price for a 256MB card, but buyer beware: even though the company is Japanese, the packaging clearly says "Made in Taiwan" on the reverse. Even worse, once you crack open the seal, the card itself is not made in Japan or Taiwan, but in mainland China. According to multiple sources, SD cards made in China have the worst quality control and are unpredictable often resulting in loss of data or formatting. Better to skip this card unless Amazon or their subcontractors guarantee a card made in Japan or at least Taiwan.

Customer Reviews:
As a workhorse, it does a great job.......2006-12-02
Summary:
TeraStation is a workhorse. Huge capacity for the money, great redundancy if set up as a RAID 1 or RAID 5, hooks right on to a network with ease, offers 4 USB ports for other external drive to hook in. Improvements in the TeraStation should include a better network interface connection, better documentation and troubleshooting, a feature to copy to and from the external USB ports directly to the TeraStation without having to use a PC as a go-between.
Review:
Depending on your needs, the terastation may be the perfect NAS for you. I have a young daughter and gigabytes of home videos taken over the years that simply take up too much space on the PC. I bought the terastation to hold the videos and to stream to the other PCs and to a media player in the living room.
First, the Terastation is one of the only NAS that offers a RAID 5 configuration. This means that you can voluntarily forego 1/4th of the total capactity (net space available becomes around 750GB) to provide redundancy should any of its 4 internal drives crash or fail. Since I cannot easily replace the home videos, this is a great option to protect against a hard drive failure within the device.
Second, the device is quiet and efficient. It runs smoothly and is always available when I need to access a file on its drives.
Third, I really like the fact that I can use it to hook up 4 external hard drives to the network using its attached USB ports.
The drawbacks:
The transfer rate is below par for a 1Gb ethernet connection. I cannot get transfer rates beyond 120 Mbps (12% of the "potential). At first, I blamed my older PC which may not be powerful enough to handle the 1Gb transfer rate (I installed the gigabit card in the PC aftermarket), but after reading other reviews, I think it may be the device itself.
Also, while I love the USB ports, I have a Maxtor external hard drive that is recognized 50% of the time by the device after a reboot. I unplug/replug the USB cable a few times and it'll eventually recognize the drive and see the data on it. I only experience this problem once in a long while (I rarely reboot the terastation), but still a real pain. My other USB external hard drives work fine.
One thing I'd like to see is the ability to copy data from these external USB drives to the Terastation without having to send the data over the from the USB drive to the network to a PC and then to the Terastation HDD.
Lastly, while I find it annoying, it is really a great feature: after a power failure, the device reboots and spends about 12 hours running diagnostics on the 4 hard drives to ensure no data was damaged. This is great, but it means the device is sorta "unavailable" during this time (sorta because you can use it after a short while, but any transfer of data competes with the drives self-diagnostics). The best solution to this is to buy a battery backup for ~$50 that automatically notifies the Terastation to shut down after a power outage. This avoids the need for the diagnostic event when the power comes back on.
useful, but performs poorly.......2006-02-12
I was very disappointed with the performance of this NAS because the gigabit ethernet performed little better than 100mbps ethernet. You can not attach the box via USB, so this limited speed is one's only option.
With a Maxtor 300GB USB 2 drive attached to my computer, I could copy a 717MB file from my internal SATA drive at an average speed of almost 29 MB/s (230 mbps). Using Jumbo 7MB frames, I could copy the same file to the NAS at just 7.2 MB/s using a new Linksys gigabit ethernet switch (which was very noisy, but that is another story). Switching to my 6 year old SMC 100mbps switch, I could achieve almost the same speed, 6.2 MB/s using 7.2 MB frames, and 4.5 MB/s using the default 1.5 MB/s frames.
