Unreliable TV, Poor customer service.......2007-08-06

The convergence board in my TV set died a few months after the 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty. Upon reviewing the circuit, heatsinks attached to the convergence ICs (STK392-010) are just too small to dissipate insane heat generated by those two convergence chips. Plus, not-so-heat-resisting resistors all around those metal heatsinks also caused some of the resistors failures.

After contacting Samsung, all I got was unfriendly customer support representatives with attitude (doing whatever she could do to get me off the phone) and runaround answers. I'm more than certain this model has been discontinued and you can no longer purchase one from retailers but if you ever encounter with one, don't get tempted. Walk away.

Unreliable, TV plus Poor Customer Support by Samsung.......2007-07-06

I have this Samsung HC-P4752W TV for two yeas now; bought it at Sam's Ckub. It started problems when it was still one month old, it would turn off itself and enter standby mode where it would remain until it is unplugged from the power line. Samsung directed me to a local repairman who was unable to figure out the problem, so Samsung trusted this rapairman and left me suffer with that problem on my own; that was exteremely poor customer support. I do not know whay they trsuted the local repairman than me the TV owner. I lived with this problem for 20 months although the switching frequency was sometimes very low.

Two weeks ago it developed a convergence problem, which I was able to fix myself by changing the STK ICs because its warranty has already expired. However, the frequency of the self-shutting problem increased dramatically and eventually the TV failed to restart completely. Currently, the TV has remained in the standby mode. Nothing happens when I press the button on the TV set itself, however, if I press the power key on the remote, the TV responds by turning off the standby indicator LED.

This is the worst TV nightmare I have ever had. Would strongly suggest any potential buyer to stay away form this TV, it is like a time bomb that can explode when you are in the middle of your interesting show or movie.

Worst purchase I ever made.......2006-09-10

I have had this TV for 17 months and it went up in smoke. Of course the TV is out of warranty so I called a repair shop to come and look at TV. It turns out a capacitor exploded on the mainboard. Well 6 weeks has passed and the part is still on "backorder" from Samsung. I can't get this part anywhere else its some kind of proprietary capacitor. Don't let the low price fool you on this tv, my Sanyo tv lasted 12 years, this new tv did not make it two. What a piece of junk!

Fried after 15 months.......2006-07-13

Do not buy this model, or for that matter, don't buy Samsung. My set fried 3 months after the warranty expired, and they couldn't repair without a costly service charge and costly parts. Definitely a manufacturer defect, and now it's going out on the street with the rest of the garbage. What a waste of money. I feel like such a fool for buying this brand. I should have read the other bad reviews on this product before I purchased this TV. I hope this writeup is useful and helps someone else out there. At the very least, please research the other internet posts on this brand.

Prior LaCie fan sees light.......2007-03-06

Keeping this brief, let me just say that I previously had a high opinion of LaCie external HD's. We purchased six 250 GB units for our office, and were quite happy with the aesthetic and the fuctionality...for just under 2 years.
Then one unit crashed with no warning....reduced to a clicking, completely non-functional paperweight...Diskwarrior, data-rescue, and a host of other tools failed to reclaim any of our lost data. The drive was toast. In the past 6 months (now about 2 years since purchase), we've had THREE other LaCie HD's fail. None were recoverable in-house, so they were taken to a data-recovery firm to see what they could do.

We were informed that the LaCie d2 product line is notorious for without warning failures, due use of substandard capacitors in the internal power supply circuitry, and the drives typically suffered from overheating as well due to the lack of a fan of any sort. These two factors combined, leads to the high rate of failure with the d2 series of LaCie external hard-drives.

We have replaced all of our LaCie HD's with another vendors raid-mirroring products, as our experience with LaCie has cost us business, a lot of money, and driven us crazy wondering if we were ever going to recover our data.

To the people that love their LaCie d2 drives, all I can say...is just wait until you have your first drive failure, then update your review with your new thoughts. We have owned many different brands of HD's over the years, and I can realistically say, with typical HD lifespan being an average of 5 years, I am not at all impressed with the LaCie d2 HD's.

Great looking but run very hot.......2005-05-30

I've got 3 of the 250 Triples. I love the quality of the case. The LaCie cases are way sturdier than the cheap Western Digital cases I've had in the past. However, they have no fan and the case gets hot to the touch.

I've just had my first massive drive failure and lost 160GB of data. Disk Warrior could not find the data. The failure may not be the fault of the LaCie as there is a known issue with FW 800 drives and Mac OS 10.3.x and any brand of drive will fail eventually but I'm gun shy now and I bought a Maxtor to replace it. Ironically, the drive inside the LaCie is actually a Maxtor.

I would have given a 5 before the failure. Now it gets a 3.

Listen to other's experience before buying a D2.......2005-03-24

There is no doubt that this is one sexy product. The problem is what you don't see from the outside. The hard drive is good when it is working, but like others have said....once it goes down, that's it.

I bought the 1st generation 80gb version, and it is now reduced to a clicking piece of crap that does not work. Not to mention it being full of all my AV work that i do for a living. Most of it was luckly backed up, but others have not been so lucky.

Can't give it 1 star because it served me well for a couple of years, but longevity is not one of Lacie's strong areas.

Oh no! Not again!.......2004-09-12

For some reason, I've always felt attracted to LaCie's products. I'm not sure why exactly. But my 250GB d2 Firewire drive just crashed. Its clicking and knocking when it starts up. There was no warning or prior indication suggesting that I be ready for trouble. Filled up with DV Media (filled up with around 8GB remaining), I'm now going to have to start redigitizing hours and hours of footage. This drive is not my only drive on the chain; the others are different brands and sizes.

The reason I'm writing though is to confess, that the ONLY other hard drive (internal or external of any size and type) I have EVER go down on me, was another LaCie d2 hard drive... full of the data I make my living with.

I don't know if its that the LaCie products just look cool, or that I respect their brave development of larger and larger drives, or maybe its just that their company feels so familiar, but for some reason I forgot how painful that first hard drive failure was. But tonight, I'm sitting here feeling it again; trying every utility there is (Norton, Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro 4), hoping that repairing is possible, and that if so, it will take less time than redigitizing.

So, if you're out there, like I was, and you're thinking about buying another LaCie hard drive for reasons you're not exactly sure of... REMEMBER! (ok, this is really just a note to myself, in case I forget again)

Even the case is beautiful.......2004-07-24

Designed to compliment your Mac G5, the sleek siver enclosure and glowing blue light make having an external drive not such a bad thing. This drive looks great on my desk - almost like a piece of futuristic machinery. It's solid base keeps the vertical drive from tipping. Sadly, I only have a G4, so the drive is more sexy than my CPU! The only annoyance I've come up with is that I need to drag the drive to the trash before I shut down, otherwise the computer won't shut down properly - but I think this has more to do w/ my G4 and less to do with the drive. At about $1 per GB, tihs is a great deal in storage. I partitioned mine into scratch disks for Photoshop and other storage volumes - which was a piece of cake with the included partitioning software.
