Product Description
The HT-DB120 provides the right footprint with features like progressive scan video allowing superior non-interlaced images to be sent and 3: 2 pulldown technology which instantly displays content originally shot at the 24 frame per second standard.
Amazon.com Product Description
The HT-DB120 merges the basic components of a home theater into one compact and silvery system, delivering simplicity and convenience for people seeking quality home entertainment in a surprisingly affordable package. The HT-DB120 spins DVD-Video, video CD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) CD, as well as Kodak Picture CD/JPEG CD--great for living-room slideshows of your digital photos; you can even pick one to be the wallpaper for the player's onscreen menu.
The amplifier distributes 40 watts per channel to each of the system's 5 compact satellite speakers (left, center, right, and left/right surround), while the standalone subwoofer packs a potent 50 watts.
All major movie surround signals are decoded and routed to their appropriate speakers: Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II (which generates 5.1 surround from any stereo source, whether movie or music), and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound. The system includes an AM/FM radio tuner with 30 preset memory settings, and a headphone jack for private or late-night listening.
The system's progressive-scan component-video output prepares you for the future, with the ability to use the system in conjunction with a high-definition or HD-ready television. Smooth progressive-scan images are free from even the slightest hint of blurring or distortion, bringing new realism to DVD movies and other selections.
The HT-DB120 also performs 3:2 pulldown detection--an unexpected inclusion at this price. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
What's in the Box
DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, 5 satellite speakers, a powered subwoofer, AM/FM antennas, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and all requisite cabling.
Customer Reviews:
DVD went bad and the service on this is worse.......2005-04-15
Works ok with some DVDs. The only reason I bought was for the radio included in but it was not worth the trouble. In 12 months it has spent atleast 2 months getting fixed. The DVD doesnt open and they dont know whats the fix for it. Said they added some lubricant to open but it failed again. Then they changed the laser head dont know why but even that doesnt seem to help
Like everything but the voice.......2005-03-03
Everything seems ok about this, but I cant hear the voice channel very well. I pretty much have to turn it up to 35-40 to be able to hear much voice durring a movie... If I could fix that I'd be plenty happy.
Good starter system or for a spare bedroom.......2004-12-18
Had this setup for a year or so. The sound or audio quality is certainly not going to be mistaken for a "serious" home theater system made of seperate components, but that ought to be obvious from the price tag. It's more than adequate for a starter system, an apartment, or for a bedroom. The volume control at about the 40 setting is enough to start making the neighbors complain, which is good since much higher and the sound starts distorting a bit. The player itself seems of reasonable build quality and I experienced no issues with the player whatsoever during the time I owned it, the speakers and subwoofer seem a bit cheap but they work fine. Setup is pretty easy as the wires have colored plug connectors on one end, just match like colors. Of course the downside to this is that you have to use the lousy speaker wire that comes in the box, since if you bring your own high-gauge wire you won't have the plug to connect it to the player. But of course if you're buying this unit you're likely not going to be out buying expensive Monster Cable for it ;)
All in all, it's does a pretty decent job of what it's intended for, namely being a cheap solution for those with modest needs. It's not going to give you sound quality that would make Mozart weep. But if you're looking for something to get your feet wet in the home theater world without breaking the bank, or want a second or backup system for another room, then it's not a bad choice.
DVD part went bust after just 11 months. .......2004-10-02
Bought it Nov. 2003, broke 9/30/04 and the warranty covers labor for only 90 days. It never worked that well to begin with, some DVD wouldn't work on it, although they worked fine on other players.
Great for the Price!!.......2003-12-01
The quality of this DVD player is absolutely amazing. The progressive scan technology looks great even on a normal TV! The sound quality is unmatched and along with Dolby Digital 5.1 there is two sweets that make this deal amazing. The first is Dolby Pro-Logic 2, which is great for watching TVmovies and other nice programing encoded for this format. It is also GREAT for the GameCube which uses Pro-Logic 2 for surround! The best part of this deal is the DTS support!!! DTS for under $200!!!!! When I turn this DVD player to widescreen and then use the 16:9 aspect ratio on my 32" Flat CRT TV the quality is similar to HDTV!! Make sure when you get it and you are using a 4:3 display to change the setting on the system to tell it that you are using 4:3 otherwise it will default to wide and it will look bad on your TV!! Great buy!

Customer Reviews:
Great for music and gaming.......2006-03-04
I have had my JBL Invaders for about a year now and I have experienced no difficulties with them at all. They handle high volumes very well. They give out great bass and some incredibly reaslistic highs. I use them for movies and Halo 2 and they really help with the surround. Easy setup also. Great if you can find for a good price. One drawback is that they don't give out good voice over volume. That doesn't detract from the overall sound unless you are an audiophile though.
Don't lose the cables, Horrible Customer Service.......2005-01-29
I've had my Invader speakers for a little over a year now and I absolutely love them. Unfortunately, I lost the AC Power Adapter and Audio Input Cable while moving into a new apartment. My first probelm was finding a phone number to call the manufacturer, instead I found an e-mail address. I got a response telling me which product #'s I needed to order as well as the order form. I sent it in and when I finally got the package in the mail it contained only the AC adapter, but it was for the wrong type of speakers. I found a phone number on the shipping package and told them they shipped me the wrong product. I asked to exchange the product and he said they don't sell those two products separately from the system and I would have to go to some other store and buy some generic product that's compatible with the speakers. The customer service was just horrible. The guy talked down to me and treated me like an idiot, then wondered why I was getting angry. After about 10 minutes he finally offered to refund my money. I am very disappointed with this whole expreience.
One of the best systems I've ever seen.......2005-01-20
I just got this system for Christmas a few weeks ago and I could not be more pleased with it. Not enough good things can be said about the subwoofer. It is nearly half the size of the subwoofer from my roommate's system, but it is just as loud, if not louder. It fits very comfortably and discreetly under any desk, but it is not so discreet once you begin playing your music. The treble/bass controls are on the face of the woofer and easy enough to control. Whereas the subwoofer is the key to the sound, the satellites complete the system with their amazing look. Sleek, silver, stylish, and space-age, they match my silver HP laptop perfectly, but still stand out in my room. They do a exceptional job of producing the mid to high range sounds. The volume control is conveniently located on the face of the right front satellite. There is more than enough wire on the rear speakers to position them farther away from your desk. Although this system has the need for 2 audio inputs (one for front and rear) from your computer, laptop users and desktop users with only one audio line-out port need not worry. The system includes a Y adapter which separates the audio from the single line-out/headphone into front and rear outputs. Setup is extremely easy, although I will say I had one issue in that I found the color coding for the inputs on the back of the subwoofer to be inane. Two of the colors, a light orange and tan looked similar under low lighting so I incorrectly plugged in those 2 some speakers and spent a while trying to figure out what was wrong.
Only cons are that there is no headphone jack on one of the satellites and that power switch should be anywhere but the back of the subwoofer.
Also, the price for the system tends to fluctuate on this site dramatically. I bought this system brand-new for $80 in early December '04, but now the price has risen nearly $60. If you're interested in this system, watch the price fluctuations.
Good Value.......2004-12-31
For the price I enjoy these speakers very much so. I use them on a PC despite JBL's association with Apple, but I found them very easy to set up and once set up they have a terrific sound, very clear and good bass response. I bought them mainly for the purpose of listening to my large music library and for that they have been wonderful.
I see the reviews where people had problems with these speakers and the lack of customer service, and maybe I was lucky, but I have not experienced any problems and I would recommend them to someone who wants good sound for their computer but is on a budget.
No customer service.......2004-02-09
The speakers stopped working after 4 months and then the customer service was terrible. I couldn't get a hold of anyone. Don't buy unless you want your speakers to break and then not have anyone help you!

Amazon.com Product Description
Sitting at the low end of the Gateway's mid-level M305 series, the Gateway M305S notebook offers a lot to like for budget-minded buyers--from students to home office workers on the move. Its highlights include a 30 GB hard drive, 256 MB built-in memory, 2.2 GHz Intel Celeron processor, and 14.1-inch display.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The M305S is outfitted with a 30 GB ATA hard drive, which is more than enough for storage of typical software applications, games, and documents, as well as a decent-sized collection of digital audio files.
- Processor: The 2.2 GHz Intel Celeron processor is not a multimedia powerhouse, but it will perform well enough for graphics-rich tasks like PowerPoint presentations to QuickTime movies. It has a 256 KB L2 cache.
- Memory: With the built-in 256 MB DDR SDRAM, you'll be able to perform your everyday computing needs. The M305S has two SO-DIMMs (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules) for memory expansion up to 1 GB. It supports 200/266 MHz DDR SDRAM.
- CD/DVD Drive: The CD-RW/DVD combo drive boasts a 24x/10x/24x CD-RW speed (perfect for quickly making mix CDs or copying important documents for colleagues) and 8x DVD playback speed (fast enough for watching rented movies while travelling; no DVD burning capability).
- Keyboard & Mouse: It has a full-sized 85-key keyboard and 2-button touchpad.
Sound and Graphics
The included sound card is acceptable (though definitely not for audiophiles), and it is not replaceable as it it integrated into the computer's main board. It has built-in stereo speakers at the front of the unit near the base, as well as headphone/speaker and mic jacks. The audio volume (and muting) can be controlled from the keyboard.
The M305S has a 14.1-inch TFT Active Matrix flat panel display. It has a resolution of 1024 x 768 (also known as XGA) at 18-bit (262,000 colors). It features integrated Intel graphics with dynamic video memory technology, which helps make this package so affordable. If you're into 3-D gaming, you won't be able to upgrade the card as it's built into the computer's main board.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For a budget notebook, the M305S offers a good range of connectivity. It features two ultra-fast USB 2.0 ports (but no FireWire), a parallel port (for connecting to older printers and peripherals), and a VGA monitor port. It also has an integrated 56K modem and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection).
The M305S comes equipped with a built-in memory card reader (divided into two slots) that is compatible with CompactFlash, MicroDrive, Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure Digital (SD) and Smaredia cards. Additionally, this notebook has a PC Card slot (also known as a PCMCIA card slot) that accepts one Type II or Type III card.
This notebook is not enabled for wireless connectivity out of the box; you will need to purchase a wireless LAN PC card separately. Note, also, that the M305S does not come with a floppy drive.
Preloaded System and Software
The M305S comes with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system, and it also features Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents) and a 90-day trial with Norton Anti-Virus. During this trial period, you can automatically download scheduled virus protection updates; after the 90 days, you can renew the subscription for an annual fee paid directly to Symantec. It also comes with six months of AOL service.
Dimensions and Weight
Fairly compact and lightweight, this notebook measures 13.15 x 10.63 x 1.33 inches (W x D X H) and weighs just 6.1 pounds.
Power
It comes with a NiMH battery--with an expected battery life of approximately 3.5 hours under typical conditions--and AC charger pack. It is covered by a 1-year limited warranty.

Amazon.com Product Description
JVC supplies consumers with the best possible format for high-resolution recording with this digital VHS recorder. The device connects to the latest HDTV and hi-res projector systems through its High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) or component output, letting users archive everything from HD content (1080i and 720p) to standard digital broadcasts to analog programming. Fortunately for viewers with big videotape collections, the recorder is also compatible with the traditional VHS format, so you can still watch old videotapes and movies, along with the more modern D-Theater format. Recording lengths depend on the cassette type and the content source, with top-end D-VHS cassettes offering up to 3.5 hours of HD recording and up to 35 hours of analog recording. Other compatible cassettes include S-VHS (doesn't record HD content), S-VHS ET, Hi-Fi VHS (for multichannel analog sources), and traditional VHS. The recorder even offers MPEG-2 CODEC encoding, which enables viewers to make digital recordings of analog NTSC programming or analog cassettes (a technology aided by the Frame Synchronizer).
Viewers who can't wait to get started will be pleased with the plug-and-play setup, which automatically tunes the channels and clock. Programming is simple, too, with an express option and a one-year, 24-event timer. Each cassette notes the recording date of the program, in addition to creating tape numbers and categories for easier cataloguing. Befitting a high-quality video recorder, the unit also broadcasts high-quality audio soundtracks through its 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS output (optical), or, alternately, using the MTS decoder.
The rear of the recorder includes a number of inputs and outputs for connection to TVs, stereos, and digital boxes. In addition to the HDMI connector, the unit boasts two iLink terminals for digital-to-digital connections (such as for digital camcorders), a component video output, two S-video outputs and one input, two AV outputs and two inputs, and an optical digital output for audio. The system's multi-brand remote control (with glowing keys) controls the VCR, TV, and cable box.
What's in the Box
D-VHS recorder, remote control, two batteries, user's manual.
Customer Reviews:
I wouldn't buy this - no timeshifting capability!.......2006-12-09
I tape most of my stuff during the day (work) or at night (sleep) so I need a VCR that can automatically operate its own recording.
This VCR CAN'T do that. It can be pre-programmed to record analog signals while the owner is away from home, but not digital signals. Not DTV. So what's the point?
Disappointing. I see there's another higher-priced JVC that includes a built-in DTV tuner; hopefully that will be able to timeshift. (If not, I might just buy a cheap hundred-dollar Super VHS machine.)
Until they get blu-ray sorted out...........2006-11-10
VCRs like this are the only current alternatives to blu-ray. Attach one to the firewire output of your motorola hi-def cable box (and presumably satellite boxes as well), and you can record in hi def on special (and pricey) vhs tapes... about $8 for a 2.5 hour tape and about $20 for a 3.5 hour tape. I seem to get sound or visual dropouts, sometimes every half hour or so, which can be annoying--not sure if that's the tape, the VCR, or the incoming signal. Otherwise, the quality is full 1080 i digital.
JVC purposely designed the previous model 3000 so you couldn't set the timer to record from the firewire input; I think this model is the same.
So you have to be there to push the record button, or record the program onto a DVR and then play it back and copy. (No one said being on the technological edge is easy). Tapes recorded on the 3000 play on this machine just fine and vice versa
You can also record regular digital TV at near DVD quality for up to 20 hours on a tape; a nice feature for day-long marathons.
You can NOT record pay for view... the VCR recognizes the material and blocks it.
Supposedly you can record in super-VHS quality on regular VHS tapes, though I haven't figured that out yet.
The HDMI output is handy, though it takes a second or so for my SONY LCD TV to display anything.
JVC managed to make this pricey VCR look cheap, but it's not offensive. When the machine is on, the panel glows blue-purple, which you might find cool.
A Great HD VCR!.......2006-02-23
This is an awsome VCR.Should you buy one now that HD DVD and Blu-Ray is to be release?I say not! Yes the picture quality on a D-theater tape blows DVD away! I have "Passion of The Christ" On DVHS and the picture and sound is awsome, pure 1080i video.I been looking for some other titles and must are no longer availible.FOX still have some movies avalible on there website, but the thing is must of those movies will be on HD Disc real soon, and for those that are lucky will be able to watch 1080p,sorry my TV only goes up to 1080i,but I'm sure it will still look great.Well any way this JVC DVHS is a great VCR.It will tied me over untill HD DVD and Blu-Ray.
HD recording.......2006-01-27
I own the JVC HM-DH3000U and a Samsung 5688 1080p dlp projection TV with built in HD tuner. I receive HD from my trusty rabbit ears and record it via the firewire cable. The picture on playback is perfect! I also own a sizeable library of pre-recorded D-VHS movies. They are also stunning! Once you go HD it's hard to go back. I have read other reviews that state they can't record or playback via the firewire link. I don't think newer model HD sets have this issue. My Samsung certainly doesn't. When I record a HD broadcast I only need to press three buttons and it's recording a HDTV broadcast in full HD via the firewire. So.... Having said that. I am seriously considering buying this or the other JVC D-VHS VCR that has a built in HD tuner! the HDMI input/output is very attractive and I think extends the life of the unit. Another major factor is the support for DTS. I own two D-VHS movies that have DTS tracks (Alien Directors cut and I-Robot). My 3000 only plays dolby tracks. The Dolby tracks are 500+ k. The DTS is 1500+k!!!! the difference is not subtle. D-VHS plays back video at 1080i with high FPS. When HD-DVD and Blu-Ray come out shortly they will not offer the FPS speed of these units! If you are serious about HD recording and don't mind spending the extra 10 seconds it takes to record, then this is the only way to go. Unfortunately most people have grown used to the convenience of chapter searches that DVD's offer (why I don't know)and other useless frills. When I watch a movie I do just that, I watch the movie. Quality never wins out over convenience.
My 2 cents
Don't Make This Mistake.......2005-11-16
I was hoping to record off to tape some High Definition football games for those slow summer days. But it can't be done. Unless you have one of those 169Time machines with a satillite dish service. That is about the ONLY way to get a HD signal into this VCR. I have digital cable ... the cable box I-Link is incompatabile with this VCR, as are almost ALL from what I have read. I have an outdoor digital antenna that feeds a clear and perfect 1080i signal into the TV (and it looks GREAT) but this VCR only accepts and records 480i ant signals. I can record cable channels in 480i standard definition format up to channel 99, since this VCR will NOT receive any channel past that. This VCR does not perform the functions of most VCR's that are available at 1/5 the price.
The Cons to purchasing this device are many.
The Pros .... I haven't seen any yet.
