The 15-inch Samsung LN-R1550 is a great multi-tasker for the bedroom or home offices, offering the ability to watch enhanced definition television as well as use it as a PC monitor. The dual purpose pedestal stand can also be used as an articulating wall mount when itÕs folded back. Additionally, the stand can be removed for wall-mounting via optional VESA compatible hardware. Designated as an EDTV, the LN-R1550 displays signals in 480-line progressive (480p) mode, and can also accept 480p signals from video sources such as progressive-scan DVD players. While an EDTV doesn't have enough pixels for a true high-definition resolution, the difference is surprisingly small.

This set has a 1024 x 768-pixel resolution, 4:3 standard aspect ratio, 25ms (millisecond) response time, 450 cd/m2 brightness rating, and 400:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It also offers 150-degree horizontal and 120-degree vertical viewing angles.

It comes with a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner (MTS/SAP) for viewing standard broadcast and cable stations. The digital comb filter minimizes edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Other features include a variable sleep timer, four picture modes, closed caption decoder, V-Chip parental controls, and multilingual on-screen displays (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French). This set is also Energy Star compliant, requiring up to 25 percent less energy than other comparable TVs.

The built-in side-mounted speakers provide 2 watts of power per channel (for 4 watts total), and this set provides five sound modes (Standard, Music, Speech, Movie, and Custom) that allow you to tailor the audio to a specific program. It includes the following audio and video connection options:

Perfect size for my desk.......2007-01-05

For what I use this TV for it's perfect. It's small, has a small footprint which is perfect because it's on my desk. The closed caption doesn't turn off when the volume is being adjusted which doesn't happen on any of my other TV's. The picture & sound are fine and the headphone jack on the front is also nice. A nice bonus happened this week when my computer monitor died so I was able to hook up this TV to my computer and function. It was well worth the money.

NEVER AGAIN.......2006-11-25

I used the 15" 3 times when 1/4 of the pixels went out. I contacted the company to no avail. No help, no response, no resolution. I will never buy a Samsung product EVER again and will tell everyone I know. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE- NO- NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I had to give it one star. 0 was not an option.

The tv performs as expected - the picture is great and the sound is good. The only problem I have had is that occasionally the sound will stop and I have to turn the tv off and then on again. Not often enough to be a big problem, just so long as it doesn't get worse.

Not too SHARP..........2006-01-13

I originally purchased the LN-R1550 because I liked the fact that it could perform the functions of a tv AND a monitor. Right out of the box, however, my first impression was that it looked too much like a monitor rather than a tv. It's hard to tell from the web pictures, but this "tv" is just a Samsung monitor with an awkward speaker panel attached to the back and sides - not the look I was going for when I purchased for the kitchen.

Picture quality. I must say that the picture quality, when connected to a DVD player was very good. But, as I mentioned, this tv was to live in the kitchen connected to a whole-home video distribution setup via plain old coaxial cable. The satellite picture looked lousy. I even tied it into the receiver with regular RCA cables and it looked no better. These were the same cables that I used when connecting the DVD player (and that picture looked crisp). This last fact is the only reason that I give the tv 3 stars rather than 2.

The small size of this LCD makes it a great candidate for the kitchen. But, kitchen set-ups usually involve coaxial cable. So, the awkward design and poor coax picture forced me to abandon this particular Samsung. During my pre-purchase research, I had been contemplating between this Samsung and the 13" Sharp Aquos. I originally went with the Samsung because it was 2" larger. In this case - in the kitchen - size isn't such a huge deal. I returned the Samsung and got the Sharp. Boy, what a difference!

Not only did the Sharp have a better picture over coax, but it just looks so much more intelligently designed. All the contour lines flow so elegantly. The pictue was better and brighter. I think that the Samsung actually had better depth of sound, but - again - in the kitchen it's not such a huge deal. The smaller size actually was a better fit for the kitchen, too.

JBL N24.......2002-03-07

Got these speakers as surround for my new home theater system, but also use them as 'main' speakers by using a mode on my AV receiver that replicates front L-R to the rear L-R speakers from 2 channel inputs (like CDs and MP3s) and set front to minus 10db and rear to plus 5 db. Reversing the main from front to rear works well for me when I'm at my desk, which is off to the side of the front speaker locations.

My other speakers are JBL S-38s, older re-coned JBL 12" 3-way (until recently also had older AR towers).

Like the S-38s, the N-24s are extremely tight and clean in the midrange and highs; but the N-24s obviously don't have a booming bass. Neither do the S-38s, but both have bass notes that are not noticeably muddy or loose. However, a subwoofer can easily fix this.

I am really enjoying the heck out of the JBLs (and of course my new AV receiver). In retrospect, I'd consider getting the N-24s as front L-R and a good subwoofer as a 2-channel stereo setup.

Once I got over the idea of the plastic enclosure and small size, I saw these speakers for the gems that they are. Admittedly, the N-24s are not rock-the-house party speakers; but they do sound good loud.

Outstanding Imaging, sound quality and depth!.......2001-04-28

There's a popular misconception that the higher priced speakers in a line sound better than the lower priced ones. . . . but after comparing the N24's to the Series more expensive siblings, . . .the speaker with the best imaging (the JBL's titanium-laminate tweeter is definitely doing something very right) & midrange was the humble little N24.

But here's what amazes me about it. First is the bass, which sounds surprisingly full for such a small speaker . . . -- unlike the SuperZero XU or the ProMonitor 80, this speaker is very easy to match up with practically any subwoofer.

When you get a listen to the mids, though, you'll forget how good the bass is. I think the midrange of this speaker may be the cleanest...

The JBL N24 front left & right ..... 89 Hz to 18.9 kHz ±2.7 dB (Sound&Vision JAN 2001 Mag)

Matt Nelson (JBL Associate Engineer) revealed that the N24 use a significantly different crossover design -- first-order (6 dB/octave), as compared to second-order (12 dB/octave) in the other Northridge speakers.

So, for a speaker of its size and price, I can't find anything that the N24 really does wrong, but to get that full Cinematic DD-5.1 sub-sonic impact, I recommend that you get a nice 10" - 15" Power Sub. I use the AudioSource SW15 - 200w 15"... ...

Fabulous camera, quite technical to use, but the automatic setting works flawlessly. One drawback is the short lifespan of the battery, but it does recharge quickly and you can use the ac cord. Another bonus is the attachment to take old negatives and scan them to digital images.

Wonderful Product - Great Value!.......2003-08-06

I've purchased Envision monitors in the past and have yet to be disappointed, but this product is much more than I bargained for. The cabinet is beautifully made with a rich look and a solid feel considering it uses a cast metal base. The Picture in Picture (PIP) feature allows me to work and not miss the ball game, so that's a huge plus. And on top of it, I quite often go full screen with the TV when work get's to be too much. Good solid sound from the integrated speakers and a very well designed remote control. This product was more impressive to me than the Samsung PC-TV models I reviewed in person at a local retail outlet based on the brilliant colors, smooth flowing video in TV mode, and sleek design. Well worth the investment.

I find this monitor to be an excellent product for my use. The picture for the computer is excellent, and the PIP, although small, is also very clear. The full-size TV picture is only OK; therefore, I would not recommend it as a primary TV. Very easy to set up and use. I highly recommend it as a computer monitor in which you can also watch PIP TV.

Product Resolution is not as expected.......2003-01-10

Resolution was not as expected. When I received the product, I saw there was a bright red light spot on the LCD panel which would never go away. Also the clarity was not that great. One good thing about this monitor is TV reception was very good, but little on the dark side

I would look at other alternative. But the shipment was received as expected and refund process went smooth.

Not what I had hoped.......2007-05-13

I bought this phone for my bedroom since it had the alarm clock function and the cordless function. The whole phone actually slants "backward" while sitting so sitting it on your headboard or anywhere above you makes it extremely difficult to see or turn off the alarm. A side table is really the best option. Also I am not thrilled with the functions for the phone being on both sides of the phone, I find myself flipping it back and forth looking for what I need. The phone does work fine, but takes some getting used to.

Well designed & hard to find.......2007-04-03

I am very pleased with this product. There is not a lot of selection for cordless phone/alarm clock/radio devices. This one is well designed, easy to set up and use, despite the many buttons and features. Its just the rights size, way less space that individual components on the night stand. Beware the other GE cordless/clock, you can not turn off the alarm feature, will wake you up every morning like it or not. This model easy to disable the alarm for weekends etc. and then reable. The phone seems to have good sound quality. The only thing I miss is an option for the phone to turn on when picked up for incoming call, you have to push "call".

We had to replace an old cordless phone with alarm clock that finally "died" after many years of good service. These machines are wonderful space savers, but are almost impossible to find in retail shops. We initially purchased a more expensive version from a well-known catalog store, only to have it fail in the first two weeks. We we delighted to find this product on the internet at a reasonable price. An added bonus is that it takes up even less space on our nightstand than our original phone/alarm clock.

Holding my breath!!!.......2007-02-19

This is my fourth GE bedroom phone. My first was so good it has made me keep trying GE to find a replacement, but none of the newer phones can hold a candle to the 1st. This model like it's predecessor is flawed. It is beginning to drops calls. I will be in the middle of a conversation when the line goes dead and all I hear is static. The older model was really bad about dropping call while this new model has only done it twice. I'm holding my breath that it won't get worse, but... Buyer beware. I like the phone otherwise. It has good features and I like that it is cordless, but the corded models were more dependable.
