Large Button/Screen Phone Review.......2007-09-20
Good tone, excellent display screen, nice features. Two problems: 1- The cradle for the handset is inadequate to secure it. There have been instances when the phone was off the hook and we didn't realize it. 2- The cable for the charger should be longer in order to allow connection to the closest outlet.
Great phone for great price.......2007-09-16
This is a wonderful phone with all the latest technology and easy to see and use.
Speakerphone works very wel. A great corded phone for a bargain price.
EXCELLENT CORDED PHONE.......2007-09-03
DOES EVERYTHING THE DESCRIPTION SAYS. ALTHOUGH THE BUTTONS ARE LARGE AND THE NUMERAL ON EACH BUTTON IS LARGE, THE ALPHA LETTERS ON EACH BUTTON ARE VERY SMALL. ASIDE FROM THAT, ALL THE FUNCTIONS WORK WELL, VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS PHONE. IT IS ALSO COMPATIBLE WITH THE JABRA T5330 BLUETOOTH HEADSET.
I Bought 2 phones and one went defective in 3 weeks.......2007-08-31
I had to trash one of the 2 phones. The display went unreadable and the phone would not work at all.
Great Bedroom Phone.......2007-08-23
I purchased the GE Big Button Phone to use in my bedroom. The size is good for the bedside table, and I especially like the large letter lighted display on this phone. I also like being able to cut off the ringer when desired. I very much like having the phone plug into an electrical outlet instead of using batteries. Great phone, great price, and great display! I would highly recommend.

Happy Camper.......2007-09-13
Extremely happy with product, easy to set up and performs better than the previous machine I owned.Would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced machine which performs very well.
Great Product.......2007-08-29
Along with good sound and many features that all work great, this one telephone takes the place of three things I had to tolerate on my small desk; telephone, caller ID machine and an answering machine. I love it!
Quality Phone.......2007-08-23
I am very pleased with this phone I purchased. It is great to have the caller ID, answering machine & speaker phone all in one unit. It hangs up on the wall beautifully which eliminates the need for several units on the counter. This was a good buy for the money! :-)
A Terrible Product.......2007-08-10
This System is a poorly designed device that is hard to believe ever
reached the retail market. The display is impossible to read, instructions for setting up the system are not clear.
I could not find anything good to say.
WORTH THE PRICE.......2007-08-08
i found like others that the lcd display is hard to read for the caller ID. the phone works great and well worth the money.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent phone value.......2007-08-24
I purchased this phone for my home office, so I could have our house line and my business line on one phone to reduce desk clutter, etc. Overall the phone has been very good for me.
The physicall appearance is excellent, it looks very professional and appears to be well built.
It has many features that make life easier, like the caller ID that displays information for two lines at the once, has the option to have the backlight either always on or always off. It has indicator lights to let you know which line you are on, if a line is being used, which line is ringing, etc.
It also has a new call \ new voicemail indicator lights to tell you if you have a voicemail. The one-touch speed dials are also nice.
The call quality using the handset is excellent, and the handset is light weight as mentioned by other reviewers.
Both lines I use it on are VoIP, and I have not had any problems. One reviewer mentioned problems dialing fast with it, but I guess I'm just not as fast-fingered as them, because it works well for me.
I have two complaints, which stop me from giving it a 5-star review:
1.) The speakerphone always sounds muffled, it's hard to understand someone if using the speakerphone option. That's okay for me though, becuase I only use speakerphone while waiting on hold, then I pickup the handset once I am off hol.d
2.) I wish there was a contrast control on the LCD display, but it's really not that big of a deal. I can read the display just fine they way it sits on my desk, but in certain lighting conditions it would be nice to adjust the contrast.
Overall, I am very happy with the phone, especially for all the features you get for the price, compared to others.
I doubt you will be disappointed if you purchase this phone.
Good except for one big problem.......2007-08-05
I've had this phone for a couple weeks now, and I'm happy with everything expect one major glitch. I've had the same problem with the number 9 on line 2 that someone else mentioned. If you dial a phone number on line 2, when you hit the number 9, it sticks and locks the whole phone up for several seconds. The problem doesn't occur on line 1. Everything else seems to work fine, including caller ID on both lines.
Great If You Don't Need The Number 9!.......2007-08-01
I was a bit leery of buying this, based on the various reviews, but have always had great success with AT&T products. This phone had all the features I wanted, felt great in the hand, and I decided to pull the trigger. Although I love amazon.com, and we're prime members, I'm REALLY glad I decided to buy this locally . . . it made returning it so much faster.
Set up was easy, although the menu/submenu system is a bit cumbersome, and the phone feels solid and sounds great. Programming, dialing, answering, all nice. Personally, I prefer if the function buttons didn't beep every time I did something but that's a small point. So, what was the problem? The number 9 didn't work on line 2. That's it!
Use Line 2 to dial any phone number that has a 9 in it, and it locks up on the 9. At first I thought the button might be sticking; it wasn't the button. Dial any number you want on Line 1 and it works fine; on Line 2 you can't use the 9. Tried resetting the phone; changed the cords; swapped line one and line two, just in case, and did everything else I could think of. Called AT&T and they said they'd never heard of such a thing and to return it. Like I said, I'm glad I bought it locally.
I was planning to give it another try but Staples was out of the phone; I might pick one up once again but, meanwhile, I'll consider other brands.
Good Phone, One Bad Feature.......2007-07-11
I like everything about the phone except the fact that the mute button makes a beep when you mute/unmute. I have to get on large conf calls and I'm the only one with this beeping sound. Everyone knows it's me! That defeats the whole purpose of muting.
992 2 line corded phone & caller id.......2007-07-03
Excellent functioning, easy to use 2 line phone. I wish it was made in the USA instead of made in China.

Great Phones.......2007-08-14
These are great phones and easy to setup. Would be good for any small business! I recieved them in a timely fashion and no hassels what so ever.
Small Biz Phone.......2007-08-10
Easy setup and so far so good. Do not forget to buy the 9 volt batteries!
Works fine for us, with one exception.......2007-04-28
We use an AT&T 974 speakerphone in our small business. It works fine for us, and the built-in caller id display is a big help. It will even display incoming caller information when the line is in use, if you have the "caller ID on hold" feature from the phone company.
The only big drawback we've found so far is with the "hold" feature. When you put a call on hold and pick up on another extension which is not one of the compatible AT&T models, the AT&T 974 does not release the line. After the extension is hung up, the AT&T 974 keeps the line on hold for 30 minutes! AT&T says this feature only works properly with other compatible models made by AT&T. It's an inconvenience, to be sure, and for our household, where we have seven phones, a big investment which we haven't been able to justify yet.
Great basic phone.......2007-03-26
I had several Verizon business lines setup with Centrex and this phone allows me to route up to four lines through it, with different settings for each (different rings, or even no rings), it shows caller id data, tracks calls, and has all of the basic features you would want in an office phone (speakerphone, DND, autodial, headset out, etc).
I do not use this in a large environment, so I can't speak to how well it transfers calls or deals with that sort of life - I have a single small office and suits my needs well.
The only thing that I don't like about it is not really a fault of the phone, it is a fault of my own for not looking for a phone with it in the first place - but I want a phone that can talk to my computer. Pass the caller id on to my computer, log, screen, etc - I am in the software business and would like more control over anything in my office.
This phone is basic, but has every feature a small office would need.
Comments on hte phone.......2007-03-08
The phones are pretty good but I am having a little problem with a gate phone which I connected to one of the lines

Great Value.......2007-08-27
This phone is a great value for the money and works very well. I purchased 8 and changed all the phones in my house. Only draw back is receiver is a bit uncomfortable and sits poorly on the base unit. It is very easy for the phone to be off the hook.
GE scores again.......2007-07-17
I have several old Thompson (GE) phones and they have stood up very well over the years. This led me to buy the new version and it looks like a treasure.
Only advantage is price........2007-05-21
Well, it's a phone. You can pick up the phone and make a phone call.
You can have two lines into the phone and press a button to switch between lines.
But, if that's all you want, just buy two $8 phones.
Problems I have with this phone:
- I bought it primarily for the speaker phone functionality. The speaker phone sucks. It is very difficult for anyone on the other end of the call to hear me.
- The caller ID will NOT work with rechargeable AA batteries.
- The speaker phone button is annoying. In order to answer a call with it, you have to press and hold the button for two seconds, then release it. If you just press it, and then see the light flash and release, the caller just gets disconnected. I have no idea why you would make a phone where the light goes on when the phone isn't actually going to connect you.
- The caller ID display is very difficult to read unless you have the right lighting and are looking at the right angle.
- This phone is made of cheap plastic.
Worst Phone EVER.......2007-04-27
I have never placed a product review before - but this is one of those products where I would NEVER buy again. The sound quality is horrendous. We have done everything thinking maybe it was our phone line so we replaced inside wires, outlets, etc. Another phone works perfectly but this one you can barely hear over the terrible static. Avoid.
Good overall phone - with a few issues.......2007-03-23
The "CONFERENCE" feature is useless - while you can hear each of the other two parties, they cannot hear each other at all. My other big complaint is that if I'm sending or receiving a fax on line 2, I can hear the fax tone on line 1. Makes it pretty touch to carry on a conversation. I suspect this is the same issue inside the electronics - not enough shielding between the lines.

Excellent for small business!.......2007-03-23
This is the most flexible "mini-PBX" style multi-line phone I was able to find. And BELIEVE me - I did my research! You ARE able to add music on hold with a separate device that is for sale on the web.
Holding - transfering - paging (individual or office) it works AWESOME!. The reason I REALLY like it is because I can attach 19 total incoming/outgoing lines to the system maximum while giving each extension their OWN private line. They each have customizable voicemail and I can have an autoattendant pick up every line even though other lines might already have been answered by the autoattendant.
I use VoIP - and so some VoIP carriers add extra functionality with transfering lines out, etc. One warning - the VoIP routers (so I've been told) may not be giving enough electricity as a regular standard phone line for the multiline features to work properly. I ran into problems BUT I think now that it's because my wires are to closely "overlayed" and if the wires are not "twisted" then this tends to cause more intereference.
So aside from user setup problems - the phones are GREAT! Recommended everytime.
[...]
Good phone, bad manual.......2007-03-15
Getting this phone up and running is pretty straightforward, despite the fact that the manual is short on detail. This is particularly the case where it addresses the Auto Attendant feature, so if you're buying the phone for the Auto Attendant, you might have to fight with it a bit to get it going. Otherwise, it's a great phone, sounds good, no problem transferring/paging/conference/etc.
AT&T 984 - 4 line phones.......2007-01-11
We are using 5 of the 984's in an office with 5 administrative employees that need voice mail answering systems. We also have 3 954 phones in areas that do not need the answering system. Plus there are 4 wireless phones for our hourly employees that are not system phones. The system does what we wanted it to do. I had planned to return it if it did not live up to our needs. We had a older AT & T 4 line system 800 series and this one has a totally different logic system and many improved features. The bugs are still not worked out. AT&T offers support and even electronic enhansments for free to solve electonic problems associated with your local service. We are collecting question and situation data before wasting their time.It took about 4 hours to read and understand the directions plus program the phones. One person should do this then teach the others what they need to know. We did this with a short summary sheet which also gave intercom numbers, how to transfer, etc. Programming the phones could probably be done easily by a 10 year old. For us it took some re reading. I can see why some people would give up and think the phones are no good.
We paid about $1100 for the system. We could have paid well over to $4000 for other systems that I am sure were excellent with many more features but were just more then we needed. Plus the selling company would have had to maintain them and make any up grades for us at an additional expense.
We wish when you transfered a call the caller would hear a ringing, they hear nothing until the phone is answered or sent to voice mail. AT&T may have an answer for this or we will warn callers in the out going message. It would be nice if you could play music during the wait or a sales message.
Over all we are very happy with the price and performace.
Good phone - hard to set up.......2006-05-13
Just recently purchased. It took me a very long time to set up this phone - the manual was very confusing. Once set up however, it is easy to use and I have virtually no problems using it.
I wished I had my old system back.............2006-05-10
My phone freezes, as if your computer screen would freeze. You can't do anything until you unplug the power cord, and remove the 9V battery. Once you replace the battery, and plug the power back in, you are fine, for around 48 hours. Why can't I find I a phone?

Okay phone but features wanting.......2007-07-12
I found the same issue as Brian, with the unrelenting blinking of the voicemail and line buttons, only mine is on line 2 (Brian, what is "power cycling?". I found the same issues as another reviewer with the other callers on a 3-way conference call not being able to hear each other. The manual is completely insufficient, as is any other help available. There is no on-line help available, and the 1-800 number gives only a very limited number of pre-recorded answers. Over all, because of the lack of information about how to use the phone's feature, I find my experience with this phone more frustrating than satisfying.
Never quite worked right........2007-06-13
- Callers frequently complained that I was inaudible due to low volume when using the handset.
- The speakerphone-mode microphone stopped working the second week I had this phone.
- Caller ID functions were not reliable (only displaying the information 1/3 calls)
I telecommute, so a good telephone is a must! I do not recommend this phone because of the audio problems.
cool phone for the $$$.......2006-08-15
I just bought one of these at a thrift shop for $6 and this is the coolest phone I have owned. It even interfaces with VONAGE voice mail. At $50 bucks this would be a good deal.
Voice Mail Light Flashes Forever.......2005-08-12
I have two lines on this phone. Line 2 voice mail light works properly. Line 1 voice mail light flashes forever, and I have to power cycle the phone several times per day to clear the flashing voice mail light on Line 1. I do not recommend this phone.
2 line headset compatible speakerphone.......2005-07-05
The phone has some nice features but a couple of drawbacks. I had to find some unusual connectors to make my Hello Direct Virtuoso amplifier/headset work with the 2.5 mm headset jack but the folks at Hello Direct got me fixed up. An aggravating feature of the phone is the fact that the volume of the headset must be reset each time you use the phone and the headset button doesn't work as well as my older GE 2 line headset compatible phone. It would just leave the headset button flashing and you could simply depress the line button to connect and disconnect the calls. This one requires you to hit the headset button each time because when you disconnect a call it disconnects the headset button as well. Sound quality, memory features, and the caller ID function for two lines counter balance the negatives and overall I'd give the phone 4 stars out of 5.
Average customer rating:
- Inexpensive and works well
- A decent item for the price
- I Haven't Had Any Problems With GE Phone

Inexpensive and works well.......2007-09-14
It is excellent for what it claims to be. It was inexpensive and works perfectly. It is flimsy though, light weight plastic and the ear phone piece comes off easily accidentally.
A decent item for the price.......2007-07-08
I bought this answering machine to replace my faithful old Panasonic cassette machine, which finally expired after 18 years. I found the directions easy enough to follow and the machine works well. The only only downside I've seen so far is that the handset is much too vulnerable to whooshing sounds if you make the mistake of breathing near the mouthpiece. I'm thinking of putting one of those foam covers on it that they use on microphones. Aside from that, no problems and I'd recommend it.
I Haven't Had Any Problems With GE Phone.......2007-07-03
I've had my GE Corded phone for several months now, and it is still working fine. I was surprised to read all of the negative reviews. I'm glad that I had purchased mine before reading the reviews. I keep my pnone on my desk, and all that I can say is that everything on it works perfect.
don't buy.......2007-06-27
We bought this corded phone (model: 29897GE2-A, date code: 6538KT) after having reliability issues with cheap cordless phones. The phone works, but the digital answering system is worthless. The system had worked fine for a few months, as far as we could tell. Now when someone calls, either they get "message box full" (despite there being *no* messages) or the unit resets and they get hung up on.
We've since removed the power, reducing the unit to a regular phone.
don't buy this phone.......2007-06-08
I bought this phone, model number 29897GE2-A, you don't want to. 1) The phone just goes into a mode where the phone says the message box is full, but there are no messages in it. My friends keep having to tell me they could not leave a message because of this. 2) the phone does not have a internal battery for power drops, so every thime the power goes out all the programming is lost. 3) I have and the phone does not get the time from the phone line, It just blinks 12:00. This items gets 1 star because there isn't a zero star option.

This requires you plug it in to an outlet.......2007-08-29
I bought this for the kitchen wall, and as soon as I saw it needed to be plugged in, I put it right back in the box. Traditionally, these phones needed 3 AA batteries to operate the extras. Disappointed.
not exactly what i wanted.......2007-08-21
Bought this phone some time ago....maybe I don't know how to use it correctly, but the two line thing gets messed up and I can't get it back to the correct line when I need to.....otherwise has a good sound, nice size buttons and quite easy to use...just needed a one line phone I guess....my mistake not the phones....
Pretty good for the price.......2006-06-20
I've been using this phone for about a month now, and overall it's pretty good.
Pros: Sound quality is good on handset/speakerphone/headset, the controls feel nice, and the unit has a nice clean look. It deals well with the two lines: indicator lights, separate voice mail access codes, hold and conferencing are very easy. Setting up and using the speed dials is very easy (but you only get a few of them, which is fine with me). You can use the speed dials when you're on the phone, which can be useful for access codes and the like. Caller ID does nothing special, but it works as you'd expect, including with Call Waiting calls.
Cons: As others have mentioned, there is no mute button; the voice mail indicator is an LCD instead of a blinking light (really dumb idea). The LCD display is not backlit and not easily viewed at an angle, and the unit sits flat on a desk, so you have to view it at an angle (I put a piece of wood under it to tilt it up, which helps, but is not a great tribute to Panasonic engineering). Also, plugging in a headset disconnects the handset; with a headset plugged in you can't pick up the handset and talk.
Contrary to what another reviewer said, I did find that I could use the first line when there is no power, as the manual claims you can.
Overall, I'm happy enough with the unit. I did plug in a freestanding voice mail indicator light because the "envelope" indicator is pretty much useless, but the other problems are not significant in the way I use it.
Junk.......2005-08-14
Here is why it is junk. 1. creates a buzz on the line 2. Not enough room in back of phone for the cord if you wall mount 3. The LCD is pathetic. Can't see it in a normally lit room. THis should be back lit, and numbers should be bigger. 4. All in all, a real dissappointment and it is going back.
Good for the price.......2005-07-16
As others have said, this is good for the price, but lacks the features you'd want out of a $200 phone. Two other notable drawbacks - the headphone jack didn't work with two different types of headsets I tried - the volume level was all wrong, even after adjusting it on the headsets. Also, sometimes the CallerID text just says "Incoming Caller" (It almost always gets the number correct). The fax machine I have next to it properly displays the text. I would have gladly paid $10 more for a phone like this with a mute button, a message waiting light, and a usable headphone jack and I think Panasonic cut a few too many corners here to get the price down. Personally I have no use for storing an address book on the phone - that's what my computer's for. Despite these drawbacks, it works and I'm not spending $200 on a phone.

Functional, with some annoyances.......2007-08-31
I purchased this phone to use for working from my home because it has two lines and speakerphone with a MUTE key. Surprisingly, I couldn't find many other phones that had the speakerphone and the MUTE key, so I'm somewhat stuck with this one.
It works. However, the sound is low and I'm often turning the volume all the way up to either hear the other party or for them to hear me. I'm not currently using a headset though I will start and I hope the sound problems don't get worse over the headset.
Also, I've noticed that there is no immediate disconnect when hanging up my phone which makes it VERY irritating when I'm getting another call right after hanging up. I can't answer, or it flips over to my 2nd line which is hooked up to my modem and I get an annoying recording from my modem in my ear when picking up the line. I've had to miss calls coming in on the first line because the phone doesn't hang up soon enough for me to pick up the call. If one of the $20 analog phones had a mute key, I'd be dumping this one.
Okay, not great.......2007-08-12
This phone is the second of two replacements for my last two duds, both of which lasted less than two years.
The ring tone is very antiseptic, and can't be changed. The volume is too low, and the keypad buttons seem flimsy.
But it's practically impossible to find a decent desk speaker-phone, and several other brands have done very badly by me, so I'm keeping this one for now.
If as and when serious problems develop, I'll update this review, but for now, the phone, though not perfect, will have to do.
Great phone for the price.......2007-07-25
I too don't understand why the poor reviews. I have been using this phone for two years now and it has great fidelity and convenient features. The reviewer who mentioned the drop outs on the speakerphone: I noticed that too, but it's background ambiant noise that causes it. When I'm using the speaker phone I also use the mute button for listening and then unmute if I need to talk.
I'm buying my second one as an entire cup of coffee just jumped out of my cup this morning and saturated the bottom of the phone, deactivating all the bottom buttons.
So word to the wise: Do not spill coffee on this phone!
Review of RCA 2 line speakerphone.......2007-07-25
Product works fine. Easy to dial missed calls feature. Only problem is the angle of the screen increasing glare making viewing somewhat problematic. The backlight should be brighter.
Radio Frequency Interference.......2007-06-08
I selected this phone because it had the features that we need for our business and because it clearly had more quality than the other phones on the market. However, when I set up the phone system, we started getting radio frequency interference (RFI). Essentially the handset cord acts as a radio antenna and we started picking up a local radio station. Imagine trying to have a business conversation while talking over hold music and you'll get the idea. After 3 calls, the tech support people admitted that RCA is aware of this RFI problem but doesn't know how to fix it. They told me that they couldn't correct the problem and to return the phones. Damn shame as this seems to be an otherwise excellent phone system. So beware if you have any radio station towers within a 5 mile radius.
