Only worked for a certain amount of time.......2006-09-23

This is my second Lacie Mobile Drive and I am having the same problem that I had with my first one after using it for about a year. Since its so small its great for travel but the problem i'm having now is my computer is not detaching it.

I'm sure this is because the there is something wrong with the power wire. The LED light comes on as if it was working but my computer and my other computer is not detaching it.

I'm going to try to look up info on the net for help and call them tomorrow because I really need my data.

I bought two of these (100GB version). They both failed. I sent them in under warrantee. They were returned to me "reconditioned" - and still with the same problem. I wrote back to customer service and they ignored my emails.

takes up all ports on my laptop.......2005-04-09

I was to understand from the product description and other reviews that this hard drive had an ac adapter that plugged inot the wall but it only has one that plugs into the usb 2.0 port or the ps2 (mouse) port. Well my laptop doesn't have a ps2 port so I have to plug into my usb port and the actual usb for the drive is in the other port and I only have 2! I have a 4 port bus but it doesn't supply enough power for the drive so i have to use both of my ports for this one device which is very frustrating. Other than that, it seems to be a decent drive. So if you only have 2 usb 2.0 ports like me, you might want to look elsewhere.

works like a dream.......2005-04-01

This drive works like a dream! I just got it yesterday and used it with my laptop, which runs Windows XP. There was no need to install anything, just plug in and use. (This came very handy as I bought an Iomega drive earlier and had to return it, because the installation in that case was not intuitive.) The power from my USB port was not enough to drive the LaCie drive, but the problem was solved after I connected the PS cable (the product came with both cables, and a third one allowing you to tap in auxilliary power from another USB port if the PS port is in use). The drive was recognized by my laptop without a hitch, and I was able to send folders and folders of documents with just the click of a button. It takes about 4 minutes to back up 4 GB of documents, pictures, etc. through the USB2.0 port. It is also super easy to create folders, organize data, sorting things into recycling bin within the drive. It also showed up smaller than I anticipated and would really fit in a shirt pocket or most pockets designed for PDAs in an attache. Some other drives claim the same but they really meant extraordinarily large pockets like on physician's lab coats. The design is simple and without uncessary weight or baggage, as you can see on the photo. Granted, it is not a 911, but drives just about as fast.

Small, fast and very cleanly designed and reliable........2005-03-11

This drive is for me an excellent alternative to carry easly lots of files from work to home, is not the smallest on the market but neither is pricey. Just fine and practical enough.

Pros:
- Small, fits in my shirt pocket
- Fast, Very fast interface, faster than other similar drives at work.
- Clean design, easy to clean when dusty.
- No drivers to install, I just plugged and it was all
- Can reformat to NTFS and use the security and compressing options of Windows XP, so if it is stolen no one can see my files.
- Quiet

Cons:
- No carring bag (When you see this drive the first thing that comes to your mind is not to scratch the case whan transporting it)
- No syncing or backup software included. (I use Second Copy 2000, is easy and very practical for me)
- No vertical stand (Without one you should not put it vertically, the drive is too light and can drop to a side just by sligtly touching it)

Why I bought it instead of others:
- Needed something small but not willing to pay the price of the smaller drives around, something in between.
- Needed a multi-gigabyte drive that does not need a power supply or drivers to work (To take files to my customer or friends computers)
- This one was the fastest and trouble free of all the other choices y saw at more or less the same price. Other drives have included software for backup but prefer to save the difference and have a more reliable drive. Other more cheap drives at work tend to fail. Only time will tell with this.

Great Alternative to Carrying a Laptop Around!.......2005-04-23

I love this thing! Everyone in my office was ordering laptops but I asked for this instead. Obviously you must have a computer to plug it into when you reach your destination, and you can't work en route, but it's easy, fast, reliable and considerably less costly, not to mention easily transportable in a carryon bag or even your pocket. Comes with high-quality (real) leather case. Prefers USB 2.0 but compatible with USB 1.1. Data transfer speed is significantly faster with 2.0. Virtually no installation, just plug it in. Preferred connection uses TWO USB ports OR one USB combined with one power connection. 2 USB cables and a power adapter are included. I don't have 2 USB ports available in one of my locations and use it successfully without the power connection, even though this is not the manufacturer's recommendation. Did not find much documentation on line, nor was there much shipped with the product. Have not yet tested the claim that it can be dropped and not damaged, but I carry it around a lot and will no doubt find out the truth of the matter one of these days. 4 GB capacity makes it a viable alternative for back up storage as well. Buy it!

I Bought This External Drive and Love It!.......2004-12-07

I bought this device and I would like to give my honest opinion.

As a network consultant for the US Government, I travel a lot and always need to carry my laptop whereever I go. Now I simply slip my Zoom Drive in my coat breast pocket and I don't need the carry the laptop any more. What a convenience! File transfers are as fast as using my powerful PC at work. With 40 GB space, I even store my family's photos, music and movie files for save keeping. I haven't had any problems what-so-ever. I will definetely buy 2 more as X'mas gifts for my bosses at work!

overall,it's a good electronic dictionary. Except I have two complains. I don't really like how the keys are arranged, it's not very comfortable to type. In addition, sometimes I feel it's a little slow to load the definition of the word. But that maybe similar in all electronic dictionaries.

FRANKLIN SCD-1870.......2007-09-16

I always wanted to own one of this jewels. I owned the SD770, I loved it but one day I left it in my lawyer's office, and it got lost from there. I really missed my SD770, until now that I bought my SCD-1870. The only complaint I have is the LCD cover. How come they did not make a sturdy cover to protect this baby?

Pro: Lots of words, rarely you can find a word that is not included in this dictionary unless you are working in a very specialized field. Size is small. Definition is better than many desktop dictionaries.

Con: Slow processing time, it sometime takes as much as 5 seconds to retrieve a definition. Key button is small, and not easy to press. Pronounciation is not very clear. But you can plug in your own earphone to get better quality. For most words, you don't see sample sentenses in a definition. There is no picture in a definition at all.

Anyway this is one of the best on the market for an electronic dictionary. My ideal electronic dictionary should be,
1. A large collection of vocabularies.
2. Definition retrieving time is less than 0.5 second.
3. Color screen, and include color picture in a definition for noun.
4. Video clips in a definition for verb.
5. Samples sentenses in definitions.
6. Pronounciation is clear and loud.
7. Buttons can easily pressed.

This product was delivered on time but apparantly we opened it only last week only and found that it had a broken piece in one corner. Is it replacable or will I get some discount? It seems to work fine but for the damage.

I was surprised not to find some deffinitions! A little hard to see at times. Would have been better to have it back lit. All in all it's not bad!You can add books which is why I bought it!

I have had this dictionary over a year. I use it daily. I use such features as a dictionary, synonims and pronunciation. English is a second language for me so those features are very helpful and importamt . Also , I like the way words are explained. They are explained in simple manner. If I have a trouble still to understanding a meaning of a word I press for thesaurus. Some other time I have a trouble to understand a word in explanation, so I underline it and press a botton for clarification. In addition, I use thesaurus for selecting words when I write an essay , just replacing the same words with similar in meanings. My children find it useful and easy to use too.I love the this dictionary.

Not happy with the display.......2005-11-26

The words on the display look perfect under natural light. With any indoor lingting, the words project shadows on the display. Therefore, the user will see double images for each word and has to strain his/her eyes to read the definitions and examples. The Franklin Merrian-Websters Speaking collegiate Dictionary, 11th Ediction - SCD1870 does everything it claims. I purchased it for my grandson to start 4th grade. He struggles with spelling, and I wanted to help reduce the frustration he feels when trying to look up words in a standard dictionary. He loves this device! Although it is not a child's dictionary, its features make it usable by even this young boy. He can type in a phonetic spelling and find the correct spelling for words he wants to use in his written work. Even though the definitions may be advanced, he can look up words in the definition instantly! His vocabularly is growing swiftly while his frustration level is decreasing. In addition, he learns new words every time he turns the Franklin on! He and I play the spelling games and have a lot of fun together while learning at the same time. His mother is overjoyed because my grandson can enter his weekly spelling words into the Franklin and practice on his own. Spelling is no longer overwhelming. In my professional capacity as psychotherapist and specialist consultant to families about learning disabilities, I am now recommending the Franklin as an assitive device for children at the right reading level.
