I had this - now it's dead - BUY an extended warranty.......2007-02-18

I bought mine in November of 2005 and loved it until yesterday. For some reason the screen looks like it got shot with a bb gun in the lower right corner. This resulted in Multi- colored lines running down the right side of the screen and black lines running across the bottom.
Nothing came in contact with the screen. There is no sign of a scratch, dent,mark of any kind on the screen . It was fine the night before.
It is basically a total loss. I didn't get the extended warranty from Best Buy. When I tried to call the local authorized service centers I got no answers...
I ended up buying a new LCD TV - with an extended warranty...not an Aquos cause they don't make 32 inch anymore and I'm a bit gun shy now...

Poor quality, poor service.......2006-09-30

I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..

But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty, it would help down the road.

Amazon reneged on price.......2006-03-22

I ordered one of these from Amazon on March 18, 2006 for $1,282.49. On March 21, Amazon told me: "Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you."

I immediately revisited the web site, where it was still listed for sale, but now for $1,399. Amazon simply chose to renege on the price it offered, and lied about it in the email it sent me. I'm sure this isn't legally "bait and switch" advertising, but it's very disappointing as a business practice.

Best picture in its class; could use some more inputs.......2006-02-12

Let me start off this review by saying this review is for the LC-32D6U, NOT the LC-32DA5U. However, aside from different styling in the models (the D6U series puts the speaker along the bottom) and the addition of a built-in HD tuner in the D6U, they are essentially identical.

The Aquos line has earned a well-deserved reputation as having the best LCD picture around. Black levels are great, far better than the LCD screens of a year or two ago, a good thing considering that LCD is pretty much the only flat-panel option for 32" and below. There are plenty fully customizable viewing modes (about 6, I think; I find I only use 2 or 3), each with independent setting memories, and the TV remembers the picture and sound settings for each video input. It features 2 component and 1 HDMI, which should be plenty for the next 10 years or so (when reviewing the input specifications, keep in mind that some inputs are shared; i.e., the Aquos can only take certain combinations of up to 4 inputs at a time. Consider a separate switch for your lower-quality composite/S-VIDEO inputs--VCR, old video game systems--if you need more than this.) The D6U line includes a built-in HD tuner, but the DA5U does not; if you plan on watching broadcast HD then keep in mind that's going to be another separate box taking up one of the inputs; on the other hand, if you'll only be getting HD from cable or satellite, then this is a potential cost savings.

Sound is as to be expected from any TV in this range; that is, good enough if you're just watching the news or a game show, but disappointing for, say, movies where lots of things blow up. It has a processor to simulate surround sound from its built-in speakers, but I would strongly recommend, at the least, an inexpensive home-theater-in-a-box[...]. Note that the monitor outputs are ever-so-slightly delayed from the built-in speakers; you won't notice the delay compared to the video but if you have the built-in speakers and an external audio system on simultaneously you'll get an odd flanging effect, so turn down the TV's volume.

Physical build is good. The detachable base looks a touch flimsy but seems sturdy enough. Construction is mostly plastic, but mostly solid. The only potential weak spot is are the panel covers on the back which hide the wires and inputs. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the designers seem to have decided that an extra set of easily accessible inputs on the front, top, or side just weren't needed on the D6U (and I assume the same for the DA5U.) If you have a device like a digital camera or laptop that you'll be regularly plugging and unplugging, you'll have to rig up some sort of extension cable or switchbox. Not a deal-breaker in my opinion, but something to keep in mind.

Pros: Excellent picture for an LCD, wide variety of inputs (but not many of each.)
Cons: Weak sound, no front/top/side inputs, no built-in HD tuner.

Summary: The Sharp Aquos line is the reigning king of the LCD market. If you don't need an HD tuner, this is the model to get; otherwise consider looking upwards in Sharp's line-up.

The picture was great but the sound card is junk. It failed after only 3 months. The local retailer I purchased it from
has also gone out of business.

GE and Thomson = Bad Customer Service and POOR Products.......2003-01-05

Don't buy this phone.

GE (Thomson) gave us this phone after 6+ months of unanswered phone calls, emails and just plain BAD customer service. The first phone (a different model) made by GE (Thomson) and given to us as a gift broke while under warranty. After months of ball dropping on Thomson's part we finally received this phone, model number 27931GE7. We are unhappy with the sound quality- on a scale of 1 to 5 its a 2. And, the worst part is the headset; it's the WORST design I have seen. It's an ergonomic nightmare. If you plan on moving your head while using this headset forget it, it will fall off. And, the mic rests on your cheek halfway between your nose and your ear. On a scale of 1 to 5 I give a 0. Maybe it was designed first as a toy for a small child then someone thought, "Hey this would make a great headset". Just plain bad.

Also, GE phones are not made by GE... they are made by Thomson. In an economy where bad companies go under and good ones survive this is one that you hope will go under. Oh and by the way, if you want any help from GE, forget it. They claim that they have nothing to do with the phones. Funny though, their name is written all over it. GE should be ashamed of themselves and Thomson, well they should consider hiring at least one industrial designer with some useful knowledge and know-how if they have any desire of surviving as a company.

Disappointing.......2002-06-21

I expected more when I moved to 2.4 GHz for a cordless phone. Sure, the range is good, BUT everytime the microwave oven is in use, this phone picks up static and you can't maintain a conversation. I would not buy again based on this problem. Too bad, because I liked the size of this phone and features such as a headphone jack and mute button.

Great, Cheap Hub!.......2003-04-14

It works great! It was easy to setup and I've had no problems with it at all. It supports both USB 2.0 and 1.1 at a cheap price. I would recommend it to anyone in need of a USB hub.
