The Sharp VL-H860U's design lets you hold the camera above your head or facing you while you swivel the main screen portion toward you. This design is even more intuitive than the flip-out LCD screen used in most camcorders. The only drawback to this design is that the Sharp VL- H860U doesn't have an additional optical viewfinder. It was exceptionally easy to hold and point, however, feeling more like a large, square film camera than a bulky, oblong camcorder--plus it is quite an eye-catcher.

The Sharp VL-H860U's Hi8 format, a better-quality version of 8mm film, records clearer, sharper and more colorful videos than those recorded on VHS, VHS-C, or traditional 8mm tapes. Hi8 is the best-quality video you can get short of going digital.

Nice but???.......1999-10-15

I puchased the Sharp and found it easy to use but disapointing in low light and indoor situations with slow auto focus and color shifting. I finally replaced it with a Sony TRV66 which is quite a bit more expensive but performs much better all round.

I ordered it from Amazon and it came in 2 days (with 2 day air UPS option). This is a very functional camcorders and well-priced for a Hi-8 unit. It lacks the touch-sensitive screen found on the higher-end Sharp units, using rather small clikc-type buttons across the bottom of the screen. The Electronic Image Stabilization seems to only work welll when you are zoomed in on high-contrast shapes. That enables it to lock in and stabilize the image. Stabilization does not seem to work at all on general scenes lacking these characteristics. Compared with my own Sony, the image sensitivity does not seem as good, even in a normally lit room. Without bright lights on, the colors seem faded and without saturation. A good all around Hi-8 unit for the price, but maybe not for a lot of inside use.

I just purchased the latest model VL-H875U I absouletly love it. This is the first of its type I have purchased over the old 5 lb quasar VHS format cam camera I have owned since the late 1980s. The ease of learning to use it was simplicity in itself. I would highly recomend it to anyone interested in this type of photography. Hi 8 excells all others.

This camcorder is an absolute delight to use. But even more important is Amazon's customer service. The first one I purchased malfunctioned within 15 days of receipt -- after contacting Amazon, they shipped a replacement to me within 3 days!! Not only did I save $$ (Circuit City and the Good Guys were almost $90 more in price) but the excellent service alone is an important selling point.

My 1-yr old Kodak camera was out of warranty and for some reason I was not able to transfer photos to my computer. Instead of paying a lot of money having the camera repaired, I bought this card reader hoping it would do the trick. It is small enough to fit into my camera case, lightweight, inexpensive and very simple to use. I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

There are a lot of media card readers out there. I chose this one because the price was right at the time. I believe it was around $8, plus shipping. I imagine most readers work simliarly. I am pleased with this one. It's compact and easy to use.

Nice Card Reader.......2007-01-10

This is really a nice little card reader. I am running it on a Windows 2000 computer so I just plugged it in and it was recognized (no drivers to install). In Windows, each card slot is assigned a drive letter. I think most of the multiple slot card readers work that way. The media cards just plug in and out - there are no buttons to eject the cards like on some devices. The USB cable is long enough to stand the reader on top of a tower case and still reach USB ports in the back of the cimputer. Overall, this is a pretty good card reader for a low price. I could have probably found one a couple of bucks cheaper but I liked the design on this one. I am pleased with teh purchase.

Working in an electronic store I had a good chance of always playing with all the gadgets most of the time my attention was towards home theatre products,i just couldn't help but to play around so much with dvdplayers and recievers and both at the same time including speakers.We got to the point were we could tell a diffrence not just in basic design,practical use,durability,looks,options but we got a good ear for sound.What we came to determine is the JVC recievers always had the best sound quality and we always used them in the store becouse of that and also we new the setup menus would be easy.That was 5 years ago and i still test all the new recievers I can but had to buy this one to its truly POWERFUL & CRISP sounding hook it up to a decent dvd player and you'll be good to go!Did I mention its easy to set up? BUY IT
