Excellent product.......2007-06-29
I bought this lens thinking it was a MACRO lens. I thought it would allow me to take close up pictures, i.e. 1" away from subject. It is not that kind of macro lens.
In order to take pictures of small objects, I must put them on the floor, put the camera on the tripod pointed down, get up on a step stool and look through the viewfinder and focuse manually. (There is a special Macro switch on the lens that allows this "close up" work) I can fill the frame with the object, jewelry or coins and then use the remote to take the picture to minimize camera shake.
BUT! for taking telephoto pictures, this is a fantastic lens. We are planning a beach trip and I plan to get some really close up pictures of some hotties at the beach. Hahaha! If my wife lets me that is. This lens really magnifies the images. If you are doing surveillance work this lens would be great for you.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this lens as long as you understand it is not a 1:1 macro lens. It is a telephoto that will shoot some images that appear right there with you but are many feet away.
I have done some more research on 1:1 macro lenses and they come in 50mm, 70mm, 105mm sizes and allow you to shoot ACTUAL MACRO images.

Bad performance - not recommended.......2007-09-05
The lens is okay only in low ranges. The motor is pretty noisy. The lock feature for the lens is good. But if you do not lock it and the lens is dangling, the tube slides to its maximum length on its own. The focus at high zoom is pretty bad, the autofocus would go to one side completely, then the next side before it focuses properly. If you try to move the lens on AI-Servo, you can feel the third party lens not integrated properly.

Very good for the Price........2007-05-16
This is the first lens I have purchased for my Canon that was not the Canon brand and I have found it very good for the price! It has a very good zoom for the price I paid and it worked very well taking pictures at the Grand Canyon. The only con's I've found with this lens it that switching between the Telephoto and Macro positions can be frustrating. I sometimes need to switch to manual focus just to retract the lens to put it away. A small hindrance but it doesn't ruin my excitement!

Good lens........2007-05-17
While this lens is not a pro lens by any means it does absolutely what you will need it to do in a variety of photographic situations and settings. No hand held telephoto lens will ever give you crisp clear shots (a chief complaint made in other reviews of this lens), but a serious photographer using a telephoto lens knows it has to be stabilized with a tripod or monopod to prevent camera shake and fuzzy pictures. For a $200 lens in the 70-300mm range this lens beats its Canon name brand equivalent with ease. Construction of this lens is better than the Canon and the Macro feature is something that the Canon lens lacks. I've used this lens in a variety of situations - sports photography, portrait photography, and landscape/nature photography - and it's never disappointed me. Another thing that impresses me with Sigma is that they include a lens hood and lens case with every lens they sell - Canon won't do that!
Sigma 28-300mm :(.......2007-05-16
Well i got this lens about a month ago, and well im not to happy with it. all of my images come out soft/fuzzy using both auto and manual focus, it does not work well in low light situations, and i dont believe it goes to a true 300mm. I have a vivitar 70-210mm and it zooms in closer that the sigma 28-300mm does, and it produces better quality images. The only good thing about this lens is that it is built sturdy, its heavy, and the macro feature works great. I used this lens to shoot some portraits for a client and had to reshoot all of them with a different lens because of the poor quality the lens produces. I would not recommend this lens. It would be worth while to save the money and buy a canon lens.

Great Lenses.......2006-12-31
Well I got this set for under $200, so it went up a little, but that's okay, it's still a good deal. These lenses really act as my main lenses when I am out shooting, and have not had a problem with them at all. The AF is fast and quiet, the build quality is soild (have dropped them on grass, no damage), and the photo quality is excellent. They are made for digital SLRs, so it's a great fit with the EOS 300D, 350D, 400D, 30D, and 20D. They aren't great for full frame dSLRs, like the 5D, but if you own one, you probably already know that.
But of course there is more here than lenses. The little cleaning cloth keychain is amazing. It's such a simple little product that I couldn't live without now. I just clip it on to my photo bag and go. You just pull out the cloth, which is attached to the bag, and clean the lens, and then stuff it back in. Great stuff. The bag is nice, but it's not great. I don't use it at all, and I wouldn't reccomend it as you main bag, but it's a god storage bag or back up.
So to conclude, this is a great deal for great lenses and I highly reccomend them.
