perfect "back-up" phone for power outages.......2007-09-17
This phone is perfect for our extra phone in case of power outage. It is also a good phone to leave in the family room for teenagers because no one can walk away with it! It has good sound, etc.
TWO WEEK EXPERIENCE.......2007-07-31
The caller ID works as expected. The list of incoming calls is a nice feature which was unexpected.
Does this phone work as a wall mounted phone?.......2007-06-05
I bought this telephone at Target because our kitchen cordless phone kept "disappearing" and I wanted a corded phone with caller id. The problem is the phone won't stay on the base when mounted on the wall. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there an adapter? A backlight would be helpful too. It's difficult to read the display. Other than that, it's a good telephone for 9.99!
Product description incorrect.......2007-05-30
THe product was described as haveing a backlit LCD display. This phone display is NOT backlit and is very hard to see when wall mounted.
Just Okay.......2007-04-27
received this phone and I am a little disappointed, the cords are not replaceable and they are too short, other than that it suits the purpose for a land line phone.

Phone Works Fine For Me.......2007-05-27
I've had this phone for years. I keep it in my bedroom, just to have a phone handy. I have several cordless phones, but I bought this phone so I would still have phone service in case of power failure. The only problem that I noticed when I first bought the phone was that the cord is welded into the phone, and can't be removed. If you want to lenghten the cord you can't use a regular phone cord, you will need to buy a phone extension cord. Then, plug the phone cord into the phone jack at one end of the extension cord, and then plug the other end of the extension cord into your wall phone jack. I did this and had no other problems. As far as batteries go, most all corded phones that have Caller ID will need some type of battery. You will need to buy your own batteries. The batteries time was sufficient for me, and I only used cheap no-name batteries.
Great phone except a battery hog.......2007-02-18
I have used one of these phones for over 3 years. The sound quality is good. The caller id function works well.
The only problem is that it uses 4 AA batteries every few months. Unless you use rechargeable batteries, you will spend more on batteries than on the phone itself. However, this is true of all corded phones that I have owned with caller id, and we have several. Many years ago, I owned a stand alone caller id display that used 1 AA battery that lasted well over a year, so why are these such battery hogs? Manufacturers should display average battery life on the box along with the number of batteries it uses.
Buy Anything But This Phone..........2006-09-23
We bought 2 of these phones and I have never encountered a worse waste of money in my life. On top of what the first person said may I add that the battery compartment NEVER stays closed and if you miss hanging it up by one miniscule your phone is off the hook. Have always liked GE products but this has sent me looking to other companies...
Do not buy this phone........2006-08-02
Both the handset cord and the line cord are permanently connected to the telephone. You cannot replace either cord. The line cord is only six feet long...if your jack is too far away, you're out of luck. If either cord becomes damaged...you're out of luck, the phone becomes worthless. Note that Amazon suggests a longer handset cord as an accessory, which you cannot use. There's no excuse for building the phone this way; it is very unusual.

Customer Reviews:
Phone Can't Be Taken More Than a Few Feet from Phone Jack.......2007-05-02
This phone has some pluses and minuses. On the plus side, the sound is very clear. The volume is adjustable, with settings at low, medium, and high. Also, the volume of the bell is adjustable, with settings at off, low, and medium. (The specifications say the last setting is high, but I'd call it medium.)
However, the phone cord leads directly from the phone jack to the receiver, and that makes a problem. In most phones, there is a cord from the jack to the base and another cord, which is coiled, from the base to the receiver. This gives you the option of using a long coiled cord so you can take the receiver across the room. This phone uses only one cord, which is coiled for the last foot. It is 7 feet at full extension, and there isn't any way to substitute a longer cord. So if you're talking on the phone, you can't get more than 7 feet from the phone jack.
I am disappointed in GE that they don't make this clear on the box and in their product description.
this phone is a junk!.......2007-02-27
I purchased this phone to serve as one of my emergency gadgets,in case of power outage. But,I was terribly disappointed. It will take minutes before the call is processed. You also, have to press hard to dial the number, oftentimes it doesnt work at all.I replaced it with ATT slimline phone and I can tell significantly the difference, just from the sound of the dial tone.I was compelled to write this review as I dont want any prospective buyers to be victimized by G.E..This is the worst electronic product I have ever purchased in my life.I will have second thoughts of buying any GE products in the future!
Appearances can be deceiving.......2006-08-28
From the picture on the box, I thought this was a "traditional" slimline phone where you run the base cord from the wall jack into the base then the handset cord runs from the base to the handset. Instead, the base cord and handset cord is all one unit, which is not what I was looking for. The "base" cord only has 2 pairs, which I realize is what most people need if they only have one line in their house. I use this type of phone to test analog lines at my business, so I often need a 4 pair cord.

This phone should never have left the drawing board. I am in the process of returning same.
Cost-Effective Phone!.......2006-08-13
This is an excellent phone for the price. It does not require a power supply, thereby saving the electric power needed to keep that going. It works even if there is a power outage in the house. It has many very helpful features. The downside is that it will lose the programmed numbers if there is a power outage in the house.

GE Corded Slimline Phone with caller ID.......2007-05-21
Great price, great phone. Works fine. Easy to program and use.
Great for the money.......2007-03-19
I am happy with this phone. I purchased it because we needed a phone next to the toilet in our master bath. It serves it's purpose very well and looks nice on the wall. It is not a phone that is going to get much use in our home. Two downfalls of this phone are that it's screen does not light up so sometimes it is difficult to see who is calling. Secondly, it does not have call waiting caller id so you cannot tell who is calling you when you are on the phone. It really depends on how you are planning to use this phone. For our needs, it is fine.
Cord too short and not replacable. Do not buy!!!.......2007-03-09
My wife bought one of these. The cord was only a few feet long and can't be replaced. It is hard-wired into the phone with no connector. The cord is so short it's so inconvenient you won't want to use the phone at all.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!
Good Phone.......2007-01-24
I am happy with this phone. I love the caller ID feature in plain sight when the phone rings. Phone works well, ringer is great, and when you talk on it, it is very clear. One thing to note, the cord is NOT interchangeable. It is an older type connection without the clip to change the cord. It is stylish and hangs well on the wall.
Average Phone.......2006-11-07
I purchased this phone because of the price and as it was going in my garage. Low and behold I found that I could not put an extended cord on it from the handset as it did not have a modular plug. Also, the box says the phone has call Waiting Caller ID. This is not true. When on the phone and another call comes in, it does not display the number/name. Overall the phone works and is nice and clear/loud. Also, the Amazon description notes that the phone has a back-lit LCD. This is not true. There are no lighted screens or keypads on this phone. I called GE support and got the biggest run around ever. DON'T BUY GE.....The support is horrible.

ge slimline phone w/ caller id.......2007-07-28
this phone is great unless you'd like to add a longer cord to move around your kitchen at all, the cord is permanently attached at the phone base so that's not an option.
Just say "No!".......2007-01-27
Permanantly attached really short handset cord and batteries to make caller id work. What where they thinking?
What was I thinking? I can't believe I bought something before user comments were posted. I figured I couldn't be dissatisfied with a basic corded phone. I was wrong.
Short Cord Syndrome.......2006-12-06
I agree with the other reviewers, this is junk. Ditto the short cord syndrome, with another detail added, the line in cord enters the unit in the center-bottom and has to wind around a confusing series of twists to exit one end or the other of the housing. The problem is every time you move it; which you have to do often because of the short cord syndrome, it displaces this cord so you have to tape it down to get it to stay put (very frustrating). I'm online looking for a quality replacement for this unit now. I would give it 0 stars if that were a choice.
Skip this phone!.......2006-09-11
I was mainly looking for a corded phone with caller ID that I could have near my computer in my office (since apparently my cordless signal was messing up my DSL). Unfortunately, the caller ID was apparently the least of my problems. With this phone, I could not use my computer at the same time anyway since the cord did not reach from the telephone table immediately next to my desk (about 1.5 feet from my chair)! Not only that, but the caller ID required batteries, which I had to replace about every month. You'll be angry at the time you waste trying to rig this one for actual everyday use. Skip it! Spend a little more money and spare yourself the irritation.
Trashcan.......2006-09-09
This phone has a short and non-replaceble handset cord. It has a short and non-replaceable line cord. It lasted less than a day.
Line cord was damaged after purchase. It went into the trash.

Cheaply made.......2006-08-15
I bought this phone about a month ago. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had no problem reading the caller id information. However, the phone has a very short cord and it cannot be replaced. I called GE (Thompson) and they informed me all of their corded phones are hardwired. How ridiculous is that! Cords are easily damaged, yet they cannot be replaced. It is very difficult to find a corded wall mounted phone with caller id that doesn't look hideous.
Do Not Order This Item.......2006-07-31
This phone has all of the features that you are looking for and a venerable brand name.
Reasons not to buy it include:
o Poor sound quality
o Non-Replaceable handset cord
o Low quality, hard-to-read display
I read a review that noted the handset cord issue, but a photo showed a standard jack and plug. It turns out that the handset cord has a nice, industry standard plug at one end but the other end - not depicted in the photos I viewed - is hardwired.
Even if one could overlook this "feature," it demands the question: Can the rest of the engineering be just as amaturish?
Mine is on the regifting list.
Will return this phone........2006-04-06
I thought the display was broken so I got a replacement.
Apparently the display was not broken, you just to tilt the phone to see the display clearly. You cannot see the display head-on.
Terrible Phone.......2006-03-18
I purchased this phone today and put in 4 batteries, only to discover what an utter waste of time this purchase was. It didn't work. No display. The ring is annoying. The cord is too short, and can't be replaced because it is wired into the phone. Then I remembered that GE products are now made by a company named Thompson Electronics, and that I had a problem with an item, manufactured by Thompson, several years ago. I can't believe I repeated that mistake.
