4 out of 5 stars Great little stereo for the price.......2006-09-06

I was looking for a stereo that played MP3 files. Did the research, and for the price ($120 at the time), grabbed this one.

    Pros:
    Nice two color LED display.
Plays about any MP3/WMA files I've thrown at it.
    18 FM presets available
Anti-skip works well (I've been off roading with this and have had ZERO skips)

    Cons:
Only con I can think of it that I didn't buy this sooner!

4 out of 5 stars nice piece of equipment.......2005-12-30

This JVC cd receiver is very powerful with my 6 x 9 speakers. It also fits neatly in my dash and was easily hooked up. I also really like that it has a input to connect directly to my JVC cd changer which I can access with one touch of the remote. The two colour display is really cool too.

It is definitely worth the $$$$$....

The only downside is that the buttons are a bit small to read in the night.

1 out of 5 stars pile of junk promoted as a good stereo.......2005-10-07

yeah, "antiskip" my lilly white a*s. every little crack in the road makes the cd skip with this player.

    total waste of $120.

4 out of 5 stars Works Great Until It Overheats.......2005-11-29

I got mine in the second week of september, had it installed at circuit city. It works awesome with mp3 CDs and the tags are wicked cool. I still get some great sound- even through just the stock speakers in my 97 Honda Accord.

This past weekend I was listening to mp3 CDs for about three hours straight for two days in a row. The cds were coming out very hot and started to skip a bit. I ejected them and let it run on the FM stations for a little while, and it worked fine again after I took a break from driving again, but the CD player part of the unit is super bitchy. Aside from that, it's an awesome piece of equipment. I got the two year warranty, so if it does completely melt down I'll be safe, but it's still not 5-star material.

        4 out of 5 stars Worth it.......2007-01-01

for the auxiliary input alone. Although, that negates the need for the CD player. I plug my Ipod into the face mounted jack, and I'm good to go. The sound is good for the price point, but navigating the various set up options can be bewildering.
I'd completely forgotten it came with a remote control! I threw the silly thing away before even checking if it had batteries. What were they thinking?
This is a good utilitarian radio/CD deck. The front mounted aux input sets it apart from anything else I've seen in it's class. I've had mine for over a year. I'm still happy with it.

        5 out of 5 stars A really quality product........2006-02-08

I got one of these for my own 1991 Honda Accord after having too many difficulties with the in-dash factory cassette player. I actually didn't mind having the older set, but there was some loose connection that caused the speakers to cut in and out, and I didn't have the tools to repair it, so I decided I might as well replace it with something.
I also have a sirius radio on my windscreen. Previously I was using it to broadcast via FM to my car radio, but that was a royal pain whenever I drove into Chicago and there was noise on every frequency. The line-in port in the front was a real strong selling point. The radio can tune sirius directly, but I need to buy other parts, have them installed, and then I only get the one-line display.
Having something to minimise the bling factor was also important. I think that flashy garbage on cars is in really poor taste. This radio has the advantage of being highly functional, but not showing it off. I did thing that the remote controller was a bit frivolous, as it's easier to reach for my dashboard then for a remote dangling off my keychain, but I won't complain.
This actually gives really good sound on my old 1991 factory speakers. It can certainly output a lot more then they can handle. Also it's nice not to have a CD player sitting on my passenger seat with wires dangling up to the cassette adapter. It certainly skips much less then what I had.
In theory, the feature to quiet the radio momentarily by hitting the controller is a nice idea, but I find it just as easy to give it a quick twist to the left.
        Only complaints:
I would like a pause button on the CD player. The only way of really pausing the thing is to hit the source button and momentarily switch the input to the radio or something.
Also the buttons to skip forward and backward are a bit small and take some getting used to. I would have preferred something slightly bigger that is easier to reach for while driving.

4 out of 5 stars Nice for the $.......2005-11-04

I have this with head unit and it does a good job with, its pushing 2 dual 6x9's, 2 dual 6.5's and a Sony 1300w sub. its a nice unit if your on a budget, and it comes with a wiring harness that you have to soulder, if you know how to do that than it can save you a few bucks from buying a harness.

        1 out of 5 stars fake out.......2005-09-18

They never sent this item to me. After cashing in my points to get this device they said sorry we no longer have this product. Then they said they would credit my card the money they charged me and they did not credit my credit card back.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't have a lot of flash, but gets the job done.......2005-07-11

UPDATE 1/21/06: One thing I have noticed since my original review is that if you set it to play random songs in a particular folder, it will play through every song in the folder ONCE, and then it starts playing random songs on the entire disc. This is highly annoying and drops my rating from 4 stars down to 3.5.

I just picked up one of these for my new '05 Kia Spectra. I've never owned an aftermarket head unit and therefore I've nothing to compare it to, but I'll give you my impressions so far. My main requirements where an MP3/CD player and an auxilary input that I could hook my iAudio G3 flash mp3 player to (mostly used for audiobooks - car CD/mp3 players don't do audiobooks well, mostly because of a lack of any kind of bookmarking capability).
I decided to purchase this unit because of the auxilary input on the front, as opposed to other units where the input is in the back. I'm starting to question the wisdom of that decision because it might've been better to have the 3.5mm audio cable coming from the back of the h/u with the end of it in the compartment under the dash instead of having a cable dangling off the front of the radio. That being said, the G3 sounds amazing when hooked to the aux input, possibly even better than the CD player :)
The unit is a definite step up from the factory radio it replaced in terms of sound quality. It wasn't quite as big of a leap as I could have imagined, but it definitely gives the speakers more power.
The CD player supports auto resume for both audio CDs and mp3s (haven't tried WMAs) and fast forward/rewind is there too (though it's not nearly as smooth with mp3s - it jumps about 9 seconds instead of 4-5). The EQ settings are pretty basic - treble, bass, fade, etc. There's 5-6 presets so that you can save your own settings for different styles of music. This is a good thing because the CD player has much more of a bass boost than FM (assuming you even listen to FM these days), so it's important to have at least 2 different settings. The buttons are small, which is sort of a bummer. The Mode button (used for various functions, such as turning on/off suffle, random, and mono on FM), is sitting right beside the preset buttons, which is extremely aggrevating because if you're like me, you'll find yourself pressing it constantly while flipping through presets. When are manufacturers going to learn that putting buttons the same shape/size right beside presets is NOT a good idea? This is the only thing I REALLY don't like about this radio.
As for the mp3 capabilities, pretty solid. You can switch the display to either scroll or not scroll and display either tag or filenames, whatever you want. However, the display is limited to about 8 characters (not a problem for me since it scrolls). Also, you can't view the clock and track information at the same time, so anyone without another clock on the dash may want to consider other options if this is a big deal to you.
I honestly have no idea if it does playlists, but you can store songs in individual folders and then have it play randomly all songs on the disc or all songs in a particular folder, so I suppose that kind of does the same thing.
I don't have Sirius in the car, so can't comment on the h/u as a satellite controller. (BTW: For all of you computer geeks out there who are paying for more than one sat radio, you need to research a program called TImetrax.)
All in all, I am quite pleased with the product. I could easily have gotten something much more 'stylish', but I live in an area where car break-ins are quite common and nobody even pays attention to car alarms. So, the less I can advertise to car theives, the better :)

          5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!!.......2007-05-31

In my opinion this is one of the nicest in dash multimedia players on the market! JVC seems to have thought of everything here. It has tons of inputs, AUX, SD, and USB. It will play pretty much everything. I have successfully played, mp3, dvd5, dvd9, divx, xvid, jpg, etc. The specs only say DIVX format but I can confirm it does play XVID also. Apparently you can hook up an external USB hard drive and play files from that but I'm not having any luck with that myself yet. I read a review on crutchfield and the guy there said he has a 160gb portable hard drive hooked up loaded with movies, videos, mp3 etc and it plays it all. Maybe because my HD is self powered? It was formatted as NTFS so I tried FAT32 but it still won't recognise. I'll try another external HD and report back. But if you have a Double DIN spot in your car and can afford this player you will not be disappointed. The only thing I wish it has was album art for MP3's. Don't think it has that or I can't find it if it does.

3 out of 5 stars nice features but jvc bug hits again.......2005-02-18

Okay, I've had the deck for about 2.5 years. Over the last 6 months or so it started to give problems similar to what another dude wrote about for the jvc-sh99.

Now a quick bit of history. I bought the deck almost exclusively to play mp3s and not so much for the radio functions etc... So in the course of a week the deck is probably on for about 3hrs a day for 7 days a week and of the those 21 hours it probably only ever plays the radio for about 2 hours max! So we are talking constant CD usage.

Problems first started with the deck refusing to play cd-rws. So I had to start burning all my mp3s to CD-R, cds are cheap so no biggy. I basically keep one in the deck for about a month anyway. Then it would quit playing mp3 CDs altogether and only play ordinary audio CDs. Once I reset it everything would work fine for a few weeks. But recently it has quit reading all CDs. Even after resetting the deck several times it decides on its own when it wants to play mp3 or even basic original audio CDs. Its past factory return so I'm clueless if this is a microcomputer/mechanism/lens issue. And yes, I've tried a few lens cleaning CDs ..it wont even recognise those either.

The other features are nice but my main fustration is the deck does not seem ready for persitent, constant CD use. I'm looking for something way more durable now.

              Amazon.com Product Description

              The Basics
Compaq's new and exceedingly wide-ranging Presario SR1100NX series of desktop PCs targets most every segment of the computer buyer market -- from financially strapped students to high-power business executives. This particular unit, the Presario SR1120NX, is one of the least expensive yet most cost-effective models in the lineup, offering superior multitasking performance and quite a bit more storage space than its entry-level sibling, the Presario SR1110NX, for just a few dollars more. Demanding users and those who deal primarily in high-end multimedia or games will want to look at one of Compaq's upscale models, but anyone who prioritizes their budget should find the Presario SR1120NX exceedingly appealing.

              Processor
Intel's cost-effective Celeron processor often forms the basis for budget-priced machines, and the Presario SR1120NX is no different. What is different is the configuration of this particular Celeron. Intel's newest Celeron is named the Celeron D, a tricked up version of the venerable chip that offers 256KB of level-two cache (twice that of standard Celeron chips) and a 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus, a 33% improvement over the norm. The Celeron D in the Presario SR1120NX operates at 2.66 MHz, which would be considered a fast Celeron even without the new and improved configuration. Though it doesn't offer the power of Intel's Pentium chip, this is a strong entry-level CPU.

              Memory
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, though frequently accessed and recently accessed information is stored for faster retrieval in Random Access Memory. With more installed memory, your PC operates faster and permit more efficient multitasking. The Presario SR1120NX features 512 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM main memory (expandable to two full GB), which is considered an average allotment in today's desktop market. As such, it is perfectly satisfactory for most single task and multitasking assignments.

              Video
An Intel Extreme Graphics video controller is integrated on the motherboard, featuring just 64 MB of shared (not dedicated) video memory. While quite capable of accurately displaying most any 2D application such as word processing, Internet surfing and 2D graphic design, the system will struggle to smoothly display advanced 3D graphics, animations, and many mid-to high-end games.

The system does not include a display screen, thus allowing you to continue using your current monitor or select from today's many alternatives.

              Sound
The Presario SR1120NX produces sound via an audio chip integrated on the motherboard. This is a typical setup for inexpensive PCs. Speakers are not included.

              Hard Drive
The unit's internal 80 MB hard drive is double the capacity of that in the entry-level Presario SR1110NX, sporting enough storage space for an average allotment of files and applications and a substantial music or multimedia collection too. But if you consistently work with jumbo-size video, 3D graphic and audio files, you'll may need to upgrade this drive or add another.

              Optical Drive
The system features dual optical drives - a fast 48X32X48X CD-RW drive for playing and burning music CDs and archiving files to CD, and a DVD-ROM drive for playing DVDs. DVD writing, often used to backup extremely large amounts of data or copy home movies to long-lasting DVD format, is not possible unless you add a DVD burner.

              Connectivity and Expansion
With five high-speed USB 2.0 ports at your disposal -- one of which is conveniently located on the front -- you'll have plenty of room for plug and play gadgets such as digital cameras and printers. Compaq has not included IEEE 1394 FireWire ports (most commonly used for fast data transfer from digital camcorders), though it has equipped the system with a built-in 9-in-1 memory card reader for accessing information stored on a wide variety of removable memory cards. This is a surprise find on a budget-priced PC. Communication options include an integrated 10/100Base-T networking interface for fast Internet and network communication and a V.92 data/fax modem for low-speed dial-up connections. The system's two available PCI slots may be used for add-on audio cards, video cards, and the like.

              Operating System and Software
Considering its affordable price point, the Presario SR1120NX features an impressive software package headed by Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. Compaq will also pre-install Microsoft's Works 7.0 word processing and productivity suite, Microsoft Money Standard 2004, Quicken New User Edition 2004, a one-year subscription to the MSN Encarta online information center, and a variety of multimedia and Internet utilities.

              Keyboard and Mouse
A standard Compaq keyboard and Compaq mouse with convenient scrolling wheel are enclosed.
