Weak and unreliable.......2006-10-31

Like many others have said, this thing will not take any abuse at all. The caps constantly fall off, and most of the time it will automatically reboot your computer as soon as you connect it to the USB ports. This will lose all information. I have experience with many of these. Do not buy this one!

Too fat and too fragile.......2006-09-08

I have had two of these drives fail in a matter of months. If you get one of these, be sure to back up any data on another device. I realize that is good advice for any medium but is especially true for these drives.

The drive is so wide that it blocks a port on each side of it on my USB Hub. So, it uses three ports instead of one unless I put it in an end slot. Then it uses two.

Finally, I had problems with the "secure" feature. On one drive, the secured files suddenly became inaccessible.

The idea is good but the excecution is not.

This is by far the best flash drive for the price.......2006-07-06

I had to rave about my little buddy here. I've had it for over a year now and it has been solid, reliable and dependable. I use it for a design class and its just the right size to carry big files around. I also noted that my lexar works in many front computer usb ports where many of my other classmates had to plug it in the back to power it. Believe it or not I actually washed it in the washing machine. I thought I lost it but after it dried all my data was still there and it still works (that was 5 months ago). I agree with the first reviewer that the design doesnt allow it to fit into narrow usb areas but other than that I am completely satisfied with this product.

Great Flash Drive.......2006-05-22

I've had this product about six months, and if it weren't for one design problem, I would rate this as an outstanding product. Although it isn't a problem for me, the one negative is the fact that you cannot use it in a USB port that is filled with adjacent connections. Why? Because it's too wide. That unfortunate design feature is the only reason I rated it 4, as opposed to 5 stars.

I have an open USB 2.0 port on the front of my computer so the wide girth isn't an issue for me. However, if you're going to use it with other items plugged into adjacent ports, this is not the drive for you.

On the plus side, I love the built in encryption because one could easly lose a flash drive or someone could steal it. If that happens, I don't have to worry about someone obtaining my personal information. I think the built in encryption feature is what makes this drive so valuable.

File transfers are extremely fast and it's been rock solid reliable. So if you have a wide open USB 2.0 port available, I highly recommend this item.

Effective, but flawed.......2006-03-26

- inexpensive
- poor physical design, much too thick
- the cap falls off all the time, so often in fact, they sell replacements in 5 packs!
- works fine otherwise, if the size and cap thing dont bother you, its a good purchase for very little money

needs to verify its MS compatibility........2007-04-12

Just bought mine at the Urbana Walmart for $17.88. The package said that it is MS compatibly and PnP;but when I plugged it into my emachines T3882 Windows XP Home edition machine the New Hardware Detection Wizard issued
the dire Dantesque warning that it had no MS logo and recommended that I immediately terminate the software download to avoid present or future
problems with Windows XP. I took the option to continue anyway since I already have hundreds of registry errors -which makes my computer slow.
If MS and Lexar have no issues with each others products, they should
issue the appropriate licences to prevent needless warnings.

Works w/Mac but serious design flaw!.......2006-08-03

The included security software works as advertised with both my iBookG4 and iMacG5 (OSX10.4.7). BUT there is a serious design flaw...the little hole in the device, to include a ring to attach it to your keyring, is in the removable cap, not the device itself...so, imagine...at a hotel in Bankok, you insert the flash drive in the hotel computer and put your keys back in your pocket before you login...finish your work and logout, departing the hotel for the airport...forgetting the device in the computer....do you want to trust this security software THAT MUCH? With earlier PNY flash drives the hole is in the device, not the removable cap!

I've used this product for over a year. It is very sturdy, and the cap stays on very well. You can easily delete the security software, or just not use it. It gives you the option of running the software each time you plug it in, but you can just choose not to use it. The only thing I don't like about it is that is sometimes too wide for the usb port space. It also works well on a usb 1.1 drive.

This product corrupted my boot sector.......2006-09-19

When this jumpdrive was plugged into my Windows 2000 system, the software that it loads corrupted the boot sector of my hard drive. The Lexar "technical support" was no help at all. They told me to reinstall my system.

Luckily the computer repair person I hired was able to recover my data files before the OS was reinstalled. Lexar would not cover one dime of my repair cost.

I will never purchase one of their product again.

Not the best, but good and reliable.......2006-01-11

I had my lexar jump drive for about 6 months, and I have *never* had any trouble with it (the only reason I no longer use it is that I recieved a larger 1GB unit for Xmas). This plucky little drive was always reliable and never any trouble. As for other reviewers' comments, I cannot image the abuse they must have put this thing through; I'm a biology grad student, and took this drive with me during fieldwork in Guam. I even accidentally left it in my pocket while out collecting snakes from the brush or testing them in the baking tropical sun.

The only significant downside is that the drive is very chunky, and as a result it may have trouble fitting into USB ports surrounded by other equipment or even with adjacent USB ports in use.

The good, the bad and the ugly.......2005-11-20

The good:

Password protection, you can password protect your drive.

This is indeed a sturdy little drive... touted to be a 'rugged' drive, I've dropped it many times, and actually dropped it in my doggs water bowel (which was full of water). I let it dry and it worked like a charm. That's about the only pro to this drive.

Cons: The USB end cover comes off too easily, and mine is now lost (almost everyone I know with one of these has the same problem). Lexar has a few other slimmer drives which just are better designed. The wide body on this prevents it from plugging into any USB drives that are depress or 'sunken' into the PC... you almost have to buy a seperate USB to USB cord to get into some PC usb ports!

More cons: Price. There are many other drives over 1GB for around this price. There are many new external drives (40 GB) for around 100 dollars (only 50 more than this, the exact same price you'd pay for a 1GB drive from Lexar).

So, It may be worth having if you plan on going on a 2 month camping trip, but other than that, the con's outweigh the pro's, don't get it!

Worked for a while.......2005-06-06

When it worked, it did as described, but twice it stopped functioning and all data was lost. Now when it is connected the computer fails to recognize it. There are many better, more reliable brands, such as the Sony Micro Vault which I have now. Nevertheless I wouldn't put anything on these that I didn't have backed up. These drives heat up if you leave them connected to the computer. Heat will cause them to fail faster.

Solid Product.......2007-03-09

The only thing is that its the old version. Had this been conceived today it would be battery powered, be usb connectible to the computer, function as a card reader/writer and be much smaller. Its very slow if your images are not sized down to 600pixels (at its longest dimension). It is however functional! I use it in my photography business for basic image projection. I dont want to use the fancy stuff because it will actually slow down the process. My only wish was that I could hide images that have been shown during a presentation and play mp3's during the images projected.

It does its job. Could be better, but it does its job.

The picture vission works great out of the box.
The best thing is that it auto starts and plays whatever you have on the card, so it can be used in a kiosk or art piece etc.

It only has rca out to a TV, I wish it had S-video or something that would work with a projector.

Worked great - for 2 days.......2004-05-04

Very elegant and clear interface. Flexible selection of input memory cards. Works as advertized on any TV.

However, after 2 days the image turned black & white and flickering on any normal tv. My LCD TV still managed to display the color image...
Tech support was reachable and professional. Asked that I ship it back to them for repair or replacement. I really liked it, so am going to give it a try - instead of returning for refund.
