Excellent Radio - Great Value.......2007-09-21
I had heard this radio in a big-box store 12-18 months ago and thought the sound was good and the tuner was terrific. I could tune several hard to capture stations inside the store. This is usually a good test due to these being metal buildings and often weak radio stations are hard to tune in these buildings. The price when I first heard it was $199.00 which I considered somewhat high. Over the past twelve months I watched the price go down first to $149 then $99. I looked for the item at Amazon and found a price too good to pass up, $58 from eTronics.
I ordered the unit and was extremely satisfied with eTronics service. Shipping was under $6 and the unit arrived at my office two days later.
I was even more pleased when I plugged the unit in. This is the first radio to successfully tune the two hard to tune stations that I enjoy most while in my office (in another metal building). Previosly I had tried both a Kloss model one and a Boston table radio, neither could tune the stations I like. The Sony tunes these stations using only the built in FM antenna (in the power cord). The sound is full. Much better than my Sony boombox. Not as good as the audiophile system I have in my listening room at home, but the listening requirements are not the same. The addition of the mini-phono plug for my MP3 player is another bonus.
My wife heard it in my office and liked it so much it moved to our house. I will be ordering a new unit for my office in the next few weeks.

Judging from the price drop this little piece of retro from Sony will soon disappear and that is a shame.
It's a radio. It's not an alarm clock. It doesn't make coffee or even grind the beans. It doesn't have a small screen with Wifi or Bluetooth. It doesn't buzz, tick, or chime. Sure you can plug your mp3 player into it via the headphone connection but there is no dock, no external screen, and not even a place to rest your player.
It has three beautiful knobs that turn like diamonds on glass. Tuning, Volume, and Bass/Treble. And two buttons Power, and Band or Line selector.
It is simplicity. It is elegance. It is a fine radio. Wax nostalgic or just listen to a sound richer than it has a right to be. It is pleasure recaptured.
Sometimes Sony gets it right.
Not bad for $40 bucks.......2007-08-20
I had my heart set on buying a Tivoli Model One. I was at Target contemplating purchasing one when I saw Target was clearing out this radio. It was only $40 bucks. So I caved in and picked this up. I am pleased with my purchase. It gets pretty loud without distorting. The tuner is rock solid and locks on to even faint stuff. Good sound quality. I like that it has a tone knob to flatten out all that bass on public radio.

I specifically got this radio because it has excellant AM receiption and a stereo line output. If played through the speaker, the sound is very good. The casing decor also fits in with my home theater system

This radio looks good. The simple three knobs and sleek black box are well designed. I like the acrylic block on top that the clock shines through.
When you can tune in a strong station the sound quality is smooth and full.
Of course you realize that with one speaker it is monaural but that's OK. I bought this radio in hopes of listening to baseball games. I can pick up the AM station that carries the game clearly enough to be listenable, but I could get almost no FM stations without an external antenna. The ICF-M1000 has an external 75-ohm coaxial antenna connection.
I wish that it had some sort of alarm function and I can't believe Sony didn't at least include an FM antenna wire in the package.

With the volume turned all the way up to 4, I can barely hear the person I'm talking to. I had similar problems with my previous GE (2.4 GHz), but this is even worse - even adding a headset turned up to its full volume didn't help. Otherwise the call quality is really clear, but what's the point if it's too quiet?

This phone's quality seems fine, but it only has earpiece volume settings that go from 1-4 and the 4 isn't very loud. Sound quality was ok, not great.<br />

Can't Hear!.......2004-09-25
I didn't find the reception as bad as the sound quality. It has 4 volume settings and if you are speaking to someone with a soft voice, forget trying to hear what they are saying to you. I usually have to switch to my GE 2.4GHz phone in my bedroom and then I can hear fine. I would love the phone if I could hear what the caller was saying. P.S. I do not have any hearing problems though this phone makes me question that!
Horrible phone.......2004-08-26
While it sounds like this phone has horrible reception, it actually appears to be a design flaw in the receive side on the phone line. Either way, you get to listen to static (other people hear you fine) and this is the worst sounding phone I've ever heard. Avoid this phone at all costs as it is much worse than the discount cordless phones you see from time to time.
Good ergonomics though. Hopefully Target will take this back.

Not worth the space it takes-this "space-saver"-is wasted space.
The Crappy sound from bad speakers,poor tuner,and the CD player that will not play some new bought CDs not to mention most MP3 CDs will make you forget about the near impossible to read,un-intuitive controls needlessly spread randomly about the front of the unit.
I would have sent it back but someone tossed the box.
Too bad,I could have used the box for something.

Never could get good reception no matter where we placed this in the kitchen. Just last week the CD player quit working. It actually just spins and spins forever initializing the CD. Save your money and buy a different brand/model.

This product will meet the needs of someone who wishes to play a cd. If you want radio with tuner selection, you need a slow finger because there is no readout on the LED of what you are tuning. You need a magnifier and a strong light to see the tune dial and a hope that you reconize the station...

I know this is not the highest-end product on the market, but I needed something to fit a specially sized space -- which it does. This is a great case! Just as expected/advertised. It is compact, which is what I wanted, with JUST ENOUGH space for the camera, a couple of extra memory cards, a small wad of bills, credit card and license. Good to go!! You could probably get a Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in there, too, and now you have no need for a purse! Great for travel, hiking, out with the gals . . . buy it.

I have to admit I was shocked by how small it was upon receiving it. It would have been nice if it was a bit larger so you could store your camera's USB cable and a spare set of batteries. Instead, your camera fits perfectly snug with no room to spare! I'd say it's a bit pricey considering how small it is... The picture definitely makes it look bigger than it really is!
But otherwise, it appears to be well made and was pretty much the only pink case I could find to protect my pink polaroid camera! Not to mention it's super cute!
There's also no HP logo on the front (as you see displayed in the picture).
Overall, I'm satified.

It's just the right size for my camera (HP photosmart M425) there is a little pocket inside for extra memory and if you're lucky you can stash 2 batteries inside. Pink is not one of my favorite colors, but in this case it's just right for my little camera. When I got it I was disappointed in the fact that the HP logo wasn't on it, but on a hangtag on the case itself instead. I love this case because it keeps my camera safe and scratch free.. but if you're looking for a case that's going to stand up to being dropped or protect your camera from the elements or other damage (other than scratches) this isn't the case for you, this is a 'soft style' case.
