The iTrip works great in my small compact car, probably because the transmitter is closer to the antenna. I have driven all over California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, and only had to change the frequency once. Its easy to change to any frequency, and you even have 4 presets. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well in my larger vehicle, the antenna is a euro style and it is a little farther away, so that must be the reason why. I still love it and would recommend to those with smaller cars.

This item works fine and I really like the "charge while in play" feature. This item works great in one area where you wont have to search for a frequency often. However, should you hit the road for a road trip it is less than convenient to search for a decent frequency while driving, and then doing that constantly as you head through different areas. I feel like I need to devices - one for home, and one for roadtrips!
I would not purchase this product again, but thats due to my roadtrip lifestyle, not necessarily a defect of the product.

Ergonomics are simple, and well designed. The side button pushes up or down like a toggle switch, and pressing the dial in toward the unit allow you to change between dx and lx modes in efforts to improve reception or sound quality respectively.
Its actual performance however, is average, as I found that in many places it is difficult to find a decent clear radio station. I am not sure if it is the unit, or if it is just my particular unit as I purchased it used even though it claimed to be new. It seems to have a steady performance though, as near my house for example and particularly in my driveway, I can't get any signal, and then its extremely clear when I am about 30 yards away.
If you can deal with a few spots of "white noise", I recommend it for an easy wireless solution. Wired decks or units will always be better though. Ease of use is its compromise.

If you have a newer model car with the 3.5mm input jack then this the perfect accessory. There is no need to fiddle with the volume control on the iPod, thus conserving battery power. This cable is the same price as a lower quality 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable that would be used with the headphone jack, except the sound quality from the dock cable is much better. This cable creates a line level connection between the Ipod and whatever you're using it with, so the volume is preset for optimal sound quality. Less hiss and static, and the bass response is much better than the normal headphone cable deal. For the price and quality, this is the only way to go.

I bought this cable because the headphone Jack on my iPod broke. I didn't want to take it to a repairman who may not know what to do, and I didn't want to replace it so soon. So I looked for any cheap alternative, and I came across this. I saw iPod dock connector to 3.5mm jack, and I thought that I could do something with that. So I run the 3.5mm jack into a female-to-female into headphones, and it works perfectly. The only downside is that it doesn't respond to the volume on your iPod, but a necessary sacrifice, and the preset volume is perfect. Not to loud and not to soft. Perfect.

recieved item in 4 days from order, easy set-up and playing tunes in 5 mins, unable to recieve radio reception as the head phone lead IS the aerial for radio there must be a way of getting over this problem, apart from that theres a really great sound from this system and it looks pretty cool too!!! and not to mention a really cheap price aswell!! good solid build quality being able to sinc the zune in the dock may be handy!! (once you buy the lead. )not forgetting the romote- its good but will not navigate aroud the zunes menus, will only select/play forward/backwards, volume-bass-treble adjustment

I plugged the iTalk into my iPod and pressed the iTalk button. I clicked record and spoke directly into the iTalk. When I connected the iPod to the computer it automatically uploaded my recording without me having to do anything. It was all so easy. 2 thumbs up.

As a simple voice recorder, it does a great job. I gave it four stars because you can hear when the hard disk spins during the recording but it's not bad. Plus I don't know if you could avoid that anyway. If you need a better quality recording, you can hook up whatever mic system you like to the 1/8th inch jack on the bottom. For the price, this does everything that I need. I use it for voice memos, recording a practice session with my guitar or capturing random audio wherever I may be. I recommend it.
The WORST product.......2007-09-10
I bought this to record lectures. I go to a medium sized university. I always sit in the front row and some of my professors even use microphones, but when I play back what I've recorded, I get a lot of ambient noise and the lecturer is barely audible even after I fix up the files as best as I can using Audacity. Even using an external microphone, all I get is noise. This product is worthless. Hopefully I'll be able to return it.

A nice microphone to use for recording class lectures but lacks speaker capability. Unlike it's predecessor that allows you to use it as a speaker for listening to your recordings, this one doesn't have it. I was dissapointed when I realized that this one doesn't have that feature.

I bought this item when it was marked 50% off at the mall - thank goodness I didn't pay full price. I should have taken it back as soon as I pulled it out of the box. One of the rubber pads on the bottom was missing. But I kept it because there were no more at the store. It played OK for about a month - then the darn thing woke me up at night with a strange humming noise. It was plugged in but turned off. Now I have to keep it unplugged when I am not using it because the humm is getting worse. The remote only works some of the time. The whole thing is cheaply made. It plays OK and the sound is fine when you are playing music, but it is not built to last.

Nice gadget that did just what I needed........2007-09-09
I bought mine here used for $15 and it was the best $15 I had spent. I own 2 older bookshelf stereo systems that put out very good sound. They were bought over 10 years ago so they of course were pre-iPod. This dock along with the remote that came with my Mac mini, allows me to have wireless control of my iPod on my old stereos that only played regular audio CD's and at one time cassettes.

I bought this dock specifically for the S-video connection because I wanted to be able to watch my iPod's mpeg movies on my Sony LCD TV. S-video is, of course, a little better than your standard RCA connection. Hook up was easy and the picture quality totally exceeded my expectations. I have a 26 inch LCD TV and the movies looked about as good as a DVD. I ran a Monster AV cable from the line out connection on the dock to my Onkyo TX-SR604 receiver and then ran the S-video cable from the dock to the receiver as well. Sound and picture were great. The other good thing about this dock is that I was able to keep the skin on my iPod and still have it fit in the dock. If you are wanting on screen menus this is not the dock for you, but if you want good picture and sound quality you can't go wrong with this gadget. Remember to change your TV setting to "on" in the iPod's video settings!

...but then I bought one in a Zoom vending machine at an airport. Aside from the idea of being able to use it to hook my iPod up to a TV or stereo, I'm surprised at how much I like it.
I bought this one and sent it to my mom, when she told me her arthritis, made it hard to unhook the iPod from the USB wire. I knew immediately that this dock would make her iPod life easier. She too, loves the dock as much as the iPod. It's great for her to be able to just slip the iPod on and off to be charged. For me, hearing from her, how easy it was, made the price well worth it.

This item is convenient but unnecessary and overpriced.
It's very nice to have a dock that's always plugged into your stereo and also plugged into a wall outlet. Then, you just drop your iPod into the dock anytime you want to play it over your stereo.
The problem is that doing this requires not only the purchase of this dock, but also separate audio cable and power adapter, which roughly doubles the price. Also, you can add on an Apple remote for extra convenience - and extra cost.
You absolutely do not need this dock to listen to your ipod through your stereo, or sync it to your computer. It's just an extra convenience, for those with a bit of extra money to spend.
You might be able to cut some of these extra costs, depending on what other accessories you buy. For example, I got an iPod Hi-Fi for Christmas, which comes with an Apple remote. That remote works with this dock. Nice! If you have a home theater system with a decent universal remote, chances are you can probably program your remote to work with this dock, thus saving the purchase of the Apple remote. Also, you can buy a 3rd party iPod charger for less than the cost of Apple's charger (Amazon sells several good ones). Some of them come with extra cables.
If you decide you want to buy this dock, you will find it well-constructed and nicely designed, like most Apple stuff. I would give it 4 or maybe 5 stars except for the fact that, when you add the cost of the audio cable and power adapter and possibly the remote, this becomes too overpriced for something that's just not necessary for most ipod owners.

At first, i thought this was too much money, but the convenience really overshadows the price. makes listening to an iPod fr away (like the bed to the stereo) much easier, and actually simple. THe line out section is not really necesary, but the charging is great.

Onkyo IPod Dock.......2007-09-06
The Ipod Dock has been great. I hooked it up to my Onkyo sr605 receiver, and it makes listening to the IPod selection of music easy. Installation was simple, and it works through all of the normal menus, etc. You can choose any input on the receiver, and use as the dock instead. I am distributing through whole home audio as well with no issues. It is also nice bc i can go back and forth b/w multiple ipods and they all drop right in the dock.
Weak Video Interface.......2007-08-31
I was pretty geeked when I read about the product and ordered the new Onkyo Receiver (TX-SR605) to go with this. The receiver gets deservedly great reviews, but this product is scrap. Setting it up is easy (3 plugs), but the remote is a step back in time from the ipod remote. On screen display of song lists, titles, etc. looks like it came from an old Commodore home computer. The display takes up maybe 1/4 of the TV screen, so if you have long lists, you really can't scroll through rapidly. With tousands of songs, it's impossible to get to the end of a list. I believe the Mac Ipod A dock supports the scroll-wheel functionality - this has nothing, but a very slow remote.
Where the product is really poor is video. I was excited that I could download movies into itune, load them on the ipod, plug it into the dock and away we go. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy. First off, you have to essentially do the reverse in terms of menu options from displaying song information. Second, you can't view the video and photo menus on the TV screen - so you have to scroll and select on the ipod itself (although you can scroll and select music by looking @ TV screen) using the Onkyo remote. I'm still lost as to that feature/function.
Probably my own missed expectation, but I was really hoping for a good UI to allow me to sit back with remote, thumb through a playlist and play tunes, go bck to main menu and select a video or watch a slide show of photos. For video/photo - the remote is useless since you have to switch it out of the mode that interfaces with TV, for audio, because you can't scroll easily through lists, it's pretty useless as well. But at least I can play tunes and video through my new receiver.

Love it. I can also use it with a mini USB cable to charge my Motorola RAZR phone. the extra iPod cable makes it a no brainer. I would/will buy this product again (need one for my wife.)
Not compatible with 4G click wheel Ipod.......2007-08-29
It says in the description that it is compatible with regular ipods, but it did not function with my 4Gen click wheel. I returned the item, got a refund, and I am now having to order an actual apple one. I'm just disappointed I have to wait so long to get my ipod to work. It doesn't charge from the computer so now I'll be at almost a month without it functioning.

It works well and the blue flashing light lets you know it is charging. i like because no wire, just plug into your laptop and charge your shuffle 1gb or 2gb.

i love the fact that there are no wires. its quick, easy, and stable. there's a blue led light on it that will let you know when its plugged in. i love it and use it all the time. it also comes with covers for both the usb and also the jack that goes into the ipod.

This is a great tool, but it won't fit in any of the five desktop computers I've tried it in. It places a lot of bulk right around the USB port, so it really only works for a laptop. It's a great product, but don't buy it to use with a desktop.

So this dock is far superior to the supplied Apple dock in that it is less unwieldy. However, it is really loose, if you even bump it, it unmounts the shuffle. A bit more time on the design would have served it really well.
A compact replacement solution.......2007-06-26
This works well with my MacBook Pro, compact, travels well. Looks and feels like a product made by apple, sturdy plastic and light gray rubber bottom, like the Apple dock. Though if there is nothing wrong with the dock that came with your Shuffle, this doesn't offer any real advantage over the dock supplied by Apple except to eliminate a cable. Feels just a tad loose when plugged in but doesn't affect how it works. This is a good alternative if you've lost or broken your dock or need a replacement otherwise.
