Very reliable, but not very well made........2006-10-07
After having two SanDisk card readers, and one LaCie card reader die on me, I invested in this Lexar card reader. For the money, it has worked flawlessy with Pro compact flash cards up to 4GB in size. I am very impressed with the transfer speeds, and the unit is not too big for traveling. The door that covers the slot, however, is very flimsy and easily deattaches (but fortunately easily reattaches too?) I use Mac OS X 10.4.8 and it works just fine. I also used it with Windows XP without any installation or transfer issues.

I'm a Mac user (OS 10.4) so I particularly like that this reader doesn't require a separate driver. Cards mount on my desktop as any drive would, and the software that came with my Canon Powershot G6 senses the card automatically.
I have had no trouble with the cover hinge as another reviewer mentioned. I love the fact that it's small and lightweight and fits into a tiny pocket on my camera case so I never lose track of it.
The LED lets you know when files are being transferred and when it's safe to disconnect the device.
Overall, it's inexpensive, fast and easy-to-use ~ a great value.
USB 2 Reader.......2005-10-23
Quick reader, poor design. It does a great job copying images to my Mac, but the flimsy lid is a piece of poo-poo. It stays on tight, which is good, until you try to open it. The force required to open it pulls the lid completely off making the ball-groove hinges useless. It's only a matter of time until the weak arms containing the hinges snap off, leaving the reader exposed to the elements.
Lexar Compact Flash Reader.......2005-09-26

This little reader is fast and as easy to use as a USB flash drive. Pop in your card, plug it in, and wahlah, all your files are shown. Transfers are very fast and easy. It uses a standard USB cable, so it's likely you could use the same cable for a variety of devices (MP3 player, camera, cell phone)
The device is somewhat flimsy, however and the front always snaps off when you try to open the unit rather than working like a hinge, as it should. This is somewhat annoying to have to reattach the hinge everytime, so it gets 4 stars. Still a very good buy, especially for the price.

I bought this for myself a couple years ago because I was tired of having to hook up my camera to the computer, which recquires battery power, and I was tired of using my mother's card-reading photo printer, due to the inconvenience of not having it at my own computer.
It worked fine on Windows 2000, and it works fine on Windows XP. I've had absolutely no problems with it, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It reads images quickly and operates easily. The USB cable is the perfect length and it conveniently sits anywhere on my desk while i'm uploading images.
I suggest this to you if you like to take photos and upload them without hassle.
I use Photoshop to open all the photos i need to upload from the folders within the card, then I edit and save from there. You can do this through any program or even just move them from the folders on the card to a folder on your HD if you're not into editing.
plus it's purple. who doesn't want that?
For Lexar USB Only?.......2004-06-11
I have one of these readers that came with my Lexar 1GB USB CF Card, and it works GREAT with that card. I recently purchased a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB card -- I put this card in the reader and the light just stayed illuminated; nothing was being read. I then read on the Lexar site where it says the JumpShot readers are made "specifically for Lexar CF Cards". That really gripes me. I guess it came with the card, so I shouldn't complain, but for Pete's Sake... this is a simple device... make the thing universal!
Don't believe what you read sometimes........2004-03-12
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. This is a review to rebut them and give it two thumbs up.
My family and I own FIVE (5) of these readers, one for each member, different households. They all work wonderfully. I have not had any problems with this in windows 2000, XP or mac OS X. I highly recommend this reader, especially for this price. I have had 2 years of ownership and no complaints whatsoever. Fast read times, reliable.
Did not work.......2004-02-12
Bought this product for under $5 from B&H. Tried it on 3 computers, two running XP and one running Win 2000. Did not work on any of them. Given what I paid for it, it is not worth the hassle of returning. I will buy a higher quality product to replace it.

This is great if you have several CF cards to unload simultaneously. I find it to be a bit slower than the Lexar CF reader that I have, but this one allows me to set up several simultaneously.

It worked great with my mac. What more can I say? I didn't even need to use the software for it. Just plug and play.
I tried a DAZZLE but it only gave me courupted images, even though they looked fine with the same reader on a PC.
jumpshot works great, and it's small.

The product never worked, even after three calls to tech help. Tech help even changed my computer settings and it took me a while to reconfigure it. I returned the product, and advise anyone not to purchase it.

would not work with 624 D-link, even after several phone conversations and hours on the line with dlink technicians. the techs couldn't offer any solution beyond what was written in the instructions and worse, they clearly did not care whether it worked or not -- they could not wait to just tell me to ship it back to amazon where I bought it from so they could get off the phone... it was disgusting.

I did not have the set up issues the other reviewers mentioned. In fact, I followed the instructions of one reviewer and my set up was smooth and simple. Problem was the PC I was trying to obtain better high speed access on did not pick up the extender any better than the DI-624 router.
How to get the G810 firmware loaded.......2006-02-14
I too bought this device hoping to configure it as a bridge, but with the firmware loaded it wouldnt work. After hearing the G810 firmware worked, I tried it out but got a checksum error, but it is possible. You must first load the earliest G800 firmware, reboot, and then load the G810 firmware. Now everything works great.

I've read all the warnings and the angry messages, and decided to go ahead and try it anyway, assuming that I'll figure it out, since I managed to get its predecessor (DWL-800AP+) to work when my network was 802.11b.
It didn't work. I tried all the recommended fixes that I saw here and elsewhere (disable WEP, disable DHCP, disable Super G, choose Channel 1, choose long preambles, etc, etc). Nothing worked. The client would get a great signal from the repeater, but there would be no traffic.
My firmware was the latest: 2.70 on the DI-624 router, and 1.05 on the DWL-G800AP repeater.
Then I tried downgrading the firmware on the router to 2.50, and it worked right away! I am using WEP and DHCP without problems, though Super-G is still disabled (the clients on this network are not Super-G capable anyway).
Bottom line: If you too have this pair (DI-624 Version C3 with 2.50 firmware and DWL-800AP Version A1 with 1.05 firmware) - I believe that you should be able to get it to work.
Once it works - it's worth it! No more dead spots in the house!
PS. I remember that DWL-800AP+ (the 802.11b predecessor) also didn't work with the latest firmware. One would expect newer firmware to improve upon the older one! Not the case with D-Link products!
