Amazon.com Product Description

Get the sharpest and clearest images possible from both HD and standard television programming and your favorite DVD movies with the technologically advanced 62-inch Toshiba 62HMX95 Cinema Series DLP projection TV with network connectivity to your PC. Vivid imagery and vibrant colors will pop off the screen, thanks to the integrated Texas Instruments' HD2+ chip, which enables a much higher contrast ratio along with a more consistent picture than other DLP chips due to filled-in mirror "vias" in the center of each pixel. This set has a built-in analog/digital/digital cable tuners (NTSC/ATSC/QAM) that will receive free over-the-air HDTV signals (ATSC) and HDTV signals from a cable connection (QAM). It's also Digital Cable Ready (via the CableCard slot), so you can enjoy digital cable without an additional box or remote using an optional CableCard. It also comes with TV Guide On Screen and Toshiba's innovative Channel Browser "back" button feature--similar to a PC browser back button--that allows easy access to recently viewed channels.

DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.

The technology at the center of the 62HM95 is the new Toshiba Digital Light Engine named Talen X, which utilizes Texas Instruments' xHD4 chip, advanced optics, and Toshiba's DEEP Picture and Xtreme BLAC technologies to provide high resolution with improved brightness and contrast. It also includes the new PixelPure AT Digital Video Processing, utilizing new Adaptive Technology to create further improved picture quality, the new Radiance 150 Hi-Bright Lamp for noticeably brighter images and a TheaterFine DFP Screen with anti-glare coating that results in increased detail and noticeably deeper blacks.

The PixelPure AT digital video processor offers motion adaptive de-interlacing, adaptive MPEG processing, and adaptive contrast and color enhancement for a consistently high picture quality. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter (4 MB, 10-Bit) constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

The 62HM95 also includes include THINC (Toshiba Home Interactive Network Connection) home entertainment networking, which allows you to connect the TV to your PC and play MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures using only the TV remote. The TheaterNet Control System simplifies the control of external components through both an IR jack and Firewire (IEEE1394) port, the latter of which can be used to transmit digital video and audio and allow for recording of HDTV. This set also includes a built-in OmniViewer memory card slot, which is compatible with a wide variety of popular formats--Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia (MMC), Memory Stick, Compact Flash, and Smart Media--enabling you to view photo slideshows directly from your digital camera's memory card.

Perfect for viewing high-definition content and your favorite widescreen movies, this set offers a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. Other features include both picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-on-picture (POP) capabilities, tri-lingual on-screen menus (English, French, Spanish), channel labeling, channel return, channel browse, favorite channel, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 40-watt stereo audio system (two 20-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. It features the following video and audio connections:

Tech Talk
HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

4 out of 5 stars Anyone thats seen it says OMG!!!!.......2007-03-25

I've owned this TV now for about 6 months and spent almost 3 months researching large screen TV's and got this for a steal, the TV, stand and a Symbio including inside delivery for just under $2000

The quality of the picture on most channels (none-HD) are great, but if the channel isn't clear, you'll notice the distortion a lot more than on a smaller set. The sound quality for me is great. I have an older pioneer surround and find the sound is sometimes better from the TV alone. Unless I'm really in the mood for theater sound, the internal speakers are my #1 choice.

I had originally hoped to be able to keep up with my shows while I worked on the computer by using the split screen feature, 2 31" screens would have been sweet but I soon found out the split screen feature has a lot of short comings, and using the PC in a window is one of them... So is using the split screen on two devices that requires the tuner. I have both cable and satelite and ended up moving the satelite to the AV inputs to work around the problem and connected an HD ant to the second coax input. Another 'issue' i have is not so much with the TV itself but with it's operation with the Symbio - related once again to the single tuner. If you want to use it like the old VCR's where you can watch one show and record another, forget it, the Toshiba changes the channel and starts recording, at this time most functions are locked out until recording stops.

I had to make a call to Toshiba when the TV guide stopped working, i was surprised and pleased to be able to talk with someone based in the US that spoke english. The tech was friendly and helpfull and worked out my problem within about 20 minutes and also found the bios on my set was a few revisions behind and sent me and update (which corrected a few of the networking issues the TV had).

A few features that I didn't find out until I started going through the menus was the ability to program the TV via email and play MP3's and display photos from a network server. They also have short comings in that if you play MP3's, thats all it does, theres no way to play the MP3's and display the photos at the same time, no big loss but not much thought put into the design of it.

If the ability to view the computer at the same time you watch another source worked I would say this is one set I would buy again no questions asked.

5 out of 5 stars Toshiba 62" DLP TV.......2006-10-04

Bought this TV a few months ago. Have been very pleased with it so far. Excellent picture quality for both DVDs and HD TV. I get the HD TV signal from a Terk antenna - it is fun to watch the games on this TV.

The speakers are great. Connect it to a signal upping DVD player and a 5.1 (we have 7.1) speaker system, you may soon forget going to the movie theaters!

This model has the best looks among the available large screen TVs. Buy with a matching stand to further enhance the looks.

Tons of input/output connections available at the back and the front/side.

We love it.

        5 out of 5 stars Revelation.......2000-12-28

Let me begin by admitting that I cannot be considered an expert in the field of evaluating speakers. However, I have been a pretty avid stereophile for almost 20 years, and am something of an equipment snob. My tastes, however, run to what some of my friends would disdainfully call "mid-fi." In lieu of esoterica such as 20 watt monoblock tube amps, I believe in solid, no-frills equipment from companies such as NAD, Denon, Harman Kardon, and Nakamichi: equipment that gives solid performance at a fair price, eschewing silly frills for quality construction, design, and materials. When it comes to speakers, I believe the decision as to what to buy is very subjective, and a function of some basic cost trade-offs. That said, I have always been a firm believer in a well-designed two-way speaker - all of my main speakers, from EPI T/E 100s, to the Energy ESM-2s I just replaced, have been two-way speakers with 8-inch woofers. The KLH Model 18T is, I believe, the best of the bunch.

I just recently had to replace my faithful Energy speakers when the foam woofer surrounds completely disintegrated after 15 years. I have had my heart set on purchasing a pair of Magnepans (perhaps the MMGs) for some time, but with two small and very curious children, this seemed quite foolish. I don't think those nice flat panels would last a day without having multiple holes punched in them. Another concern: it's Christmastime and I have two small children, so spending what I once thought of as a reasonable sum to satisfy my stereo-lust seemed rather Scroogelike. So I needed something solid, inexpensive, and relatively impervious to children. And they had to sound wonderful. Unable to do a decent job of speaker auditioning, I took the plunge and did a little web-research, settling on a pair of KLH Model 18Ts. And I was well rewarded.

Now, KLH is a brand that I have never considered before. If you're going to go esoteric, speakers are the place to start. And KLHs are about as plainjane and lowbrow as they come. But as I read in various testimonials, these top of the line KLHs should not be lumped with their more humble siblings. The materials and construction appear generally to be of high quality, from the gold plated binding posts to the yellow woven fiberglass woofers. And added bonus, they look good, at least to me. They are about 40" tall, just about right for listening in your favorite easy chair. The finish on my speakers is a nice high gloss maple (they are also available in black and various other finishes), although the gloss looks perhaps a bit too plasticky. You can see the gold colored polycarbonate tweeters and yellow woofers through the metal screens, for a nice high-tech touch. The plastic grill casing, however, seem a little flimsy, and the veneer is a little warped along some of the edges. I would not notice this, I think, in a less glossy finish, and it is a relatively minor quibble.

Now, let's get to the meat. How do they sound? They sound good. Very good, indeed. And they seem much more efficient than the sensitivity rating of 86 dB @ 1W - 1M would suggest. My Energy speakers were rated the same and required a lot more of my Harmon Kardon amplifier. The soundstage and accuracy of these speakers is every bit as good as my old speakers, which cost $100 more in 1985 dollars. And they seem to have what I consider great "presence." My Steely Dan CD, which I consider a great test of a speaker's abilities, sounded fresh and alive. I could hear things on "Deacon Blues" I never noticed bedfore. And the bass is tight and deep. The drums on the CD had that quality of "attack" and immediacy that my other speakers could never match: It seems as if the drums are live, as opposed to a muffled recording. These KLHs certainly add back the punch to percussion that I had not even know I was missing. I don't believe in subwoofers in general, although I accept their justification with satellite speakers. A subwoofer is certainly not needed with these speakers. Their (unqualified) rating of 30-20,000Hz seems reasonable. They also did a fine job with (modern) classical music. The low, rumbling menace of Gorecki's Third Symphony was given new life by these speakers. They did just as well with Dawn Upshaw's haunting voice.

It is really hard to do a true evaluation of a speaker without being able to compare it head to head with another model. I would not be surprised if once could find similarly priced speakers that were more accurate, or more smooth. I would not be surprised if one could find better, tighter bass, if that's what you are into (personally, I prefer a good tight mini-speaker with no bass to a sloppy one with a 15" woofer). Pick any particular aspect of a speaker that you might be interested in and no doubt you could find something in the same price range that would beat this speaker. But I have not auditioned any speaker that for the money performs so well in so many ways as these KLHs. They are incredibly versatile, and at their price, you cannot really go wrong.

If price were no object, I would give these 4 stars over all. But given all that these speakers deliver for their price they deserve 5 stars. Or, if you're desperate like I was, order them online, and if you don't think they are worth every penny, send them back and eat the postage.

3 out of 5 stars Good phone at great price, but some drawbacks.......2003-04-27

I am quite pleased with this product. I found the price very affordable. The design is attractive, or so I think with my black model.

The [ringer] volume settings are OFF - LO - HI. I find the LO too low and the HI too high, but maybe it's just my hearing.

My biggest complaint is concerning the lack of lighting for the Caller ID screen -- quite a hassle when the phone rings at night and a night lamp is not near by.

Regardless, I've kept the phone, and in the end, I think that is what counts.

        1 out of 5 stars unreliable phone.......2002-09-01

I am very disappointed in this phone. It has been totaly unreliable and I will need to replace it after only 3 months. Sometimes it works fine but mostly it cuts off my calls in mid-stream. I would never purchase another GE phone.

1 out of 5 stars Caller ID did not work.......2002-06-05

I also bought this phone as a second caller-id phone for my home. The caller ID system did not work on any of the phone jacks in the house. My other phone does work, so I know that it is a problem with GE's phone. I bought and returned two of these products to ensure there wasn't a defect with one. I would not recommend this product, unless GE can fix the problem.

        2 out of 5 stars Caller ID Didn't Work.......2002-01-06

I bought 2 of these phones at another store and the caller ID did not work, eventhough I already had a GE caller ID stand alone unit and caller ID on another phone--so it was definitely the phone with the problem. I never returned the phones because I didn't really need the caller ID.

1 out of 5 stars Would not recommend this phone.......2001-09-03

I also found this phone to drain the batteries within the first month. The caller ID did not work properly. The number displayed when the phone rang was the prior phone call. The new number would not show up until the next imcoming call. Also the buttons on the handset for the caller ID are on the outside, which I found to be bothersome if you want to cradle the phone between your ear and shoulder (hands free use). We returned ours.

        2 out of 5 stars IJ-100 Parrallel.......2001-08-25

I loved the unit! The small DUAL functioning buttons make it a little difficult to work at times but that's a price I'm willing to pay a unit so small. I throw it in my gym bag and don't have to worry about bringing an extra set of batteries since it only uses 2 AAAs. Even hooking it up in the car with a cassette adaptor was a wonderful experience and its easy to lock in the glove box. I give the unit only 2 stars because I had to purchase a separate MMC device since I-Jam never responded to my calls or e-mails. I had problems with the system recognizing the MMC device in my parallel port. The device was recognized only once before crashing my system. I then tried to uninstall the software and had only error messages returned. After dealing with Microsoft and running diagnostic programs, I learned that the problem was with the MMC device itself. If you don't mind small buttons, then this unit is for you. I love mine and think it is a great little unit. If you have any problems though, just return it where you purchased because my experience has taught me that I-Jam will not be of any help.

1 out of 5 stars don't get involved with this company.......2001-03-22

I bought an I-Jam in October 2000. At the time, they were offering a $50 rebate which I sent in promptly. In spite of repeated promises made by the company about a 6-8 week waiting time, etc. I *still* have not received the rebate after 6 months!

*extremely* bad way to do business. I have a feeling that it was all planned on their part.

BTW - The player also is not that great. The hardware to actually load the songs in unweildy. And the tiny display is less then informative and difficult to read.

4 out of 5 stars LOVE this thing.. so tiny.. but FM radio sux.......2000-10-20

I can't put this teeny tiny thing down, it's just the cutest. A great value with so many fuctionalities. A strange thing is 50% of the stuff I d/l from napster sounds crappy. Not sure if it's the files or it's the player? The FM radio reception is not very good.. can only pick up stations with VERY strong signals.

5 out of 5 stars EDDIE BAUER MOBILE VCR.......2004-12-01

My son has one which I have watched, and it is perfect for travel and home. His girlfriend's kids spend hours watching their favorite cartoons and videos at home. They like the small screen, and it has great definition and color. I have sold several and it always gets rave reviews from my customers. You can also hook in your digital camera or camcorder while traveling. I personally think it is an outstanding product.

3 out of 5 stars Drains Battery if left plugged in........2004-10-20

I bought this on clearance at Target B&M. I hooked it up and put it in my truck for my kids to enjoy. My children (5 and 3) can use it with ease and it does not take up too much room but it will drain your battery if you do not unplug it or have it on a switched accessory port. I did not read that part of the manual so it is partially my fault but I have another TV/VHS player in my other vehicle (another brand) and I don’t have to unplug that one. Overall I think it is a bad design and I will read manuals more carefully in the future. If I would have known this I would have returned it.
